Houston woman was retired bookkeeper
Edna Horr Strimel, 72, of 140 West Pike Street, Houston, died Friday, February 26, 1999, in Canonsburg Hospital. She was born August 31, 1926, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Robert Lee and Margaret Horstman Horr. She was a lifelong resident of the Canonsburg-Houston area and a member of First Christian Church. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Peters Electric. Surviving are a son, Dan L. Strimel of Canonsburg; a brother, Robert Harr of St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren, Nicole, Danielle and Chad Strimel; and three nieces and one nephew. Deceased is a brother, William Orr.

Lowell R. Thomas
Retired Air Force pilot with 20 years service
Lowell R. (Dick) Thomas, 59, of Lindley Road, Canonsburg, died Friday, February 26, 1999, in the VA Hospital in Oakland, Pittsburgh, following a lengthy illness. He was born February 10, 1940, in Eighty Four, a son of the late Elmer R. Thomas and Dora Milhoan Thomas Livingston. Mr. Thomas was a member of Glenn Street Free Methodist Church. He was a 1958 graduate of Trinity High School, where he was president of the reunion committee until 1998 when he retired. In 1973, he graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Mr. Thomas was in the military for 20 years, entering the Air Force in 1959 and retiring in 1979 as chief of safety for the 23rd Air Division. In 1954 he entered the Aviation Cadets, becoming a navigator-instructor in electronic warfare. He earned his pilot's wings and flew an F-102 in air defense in Okinawa and Korea from 1968 to 1971. From 1971 to 1972, he flew an OV-10 in Vietnam and was awarded three Distinguished Flying Crosses, one of which was for heroism. After retirement, he owned and operated his own trucking business, Thomas Transport, was a beef cattle farmer from 1988 until 1994, worked in consulting and insurance sales, was employed for six months by the state Department of Transportation and was a dealer for Amsoil Lubricants. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Retired Officers Association, American Legion, Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsman Club, 911 TAC Air Force Club and the Abate Club. Mr. Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. His first wife, Lynn Wilkins Roderick, lives in Sacramento, Calif. On September 27, 1986, he married Barbara R. Jurick, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Tamara L. Thomas of Washington state; a son, Lowell R. (Rick) Thomas II of Sacramento; a stepdaughter, Debra R. Murray of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two stepsons, William Garrison of Washington and Terry Garrison of Ingram; three brothers, James Thomas of Cable, Ohio, Howell (Verne) Thomas of Burke, Va., and David (Bud) Thomas of Washington; a sister, Lois R. Ryder of Buchanan, Va.; a grandchild, Haley Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas R. Ullom
Retired plumber was WWII veteran
Thomas R. Ullom, 77, of Weirich Avenue, Washington, died Sunday, February 28, 1999, in Humbert Lane Health Care Center, Washington. He was born January 4, 1922, in Hickory, a son of Harry Kibe Ullom Sr. and Alice Grimes Ullom. He was Presbyterian. Mr. Ullom was a registered plumber for the Local 27, prior to his retirement in 1984 after more than 50 years of service. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater in New Guinea, the southern Philippines and Luzon. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. On October 30, 1944, he married Beryl Jane Mortensen, who survives. Also surviving are five sons, Thomas Charles Ullom, David H. Ullom, John R. Ullom and Matthew T. Ullom, all of Washington, and Christopher C. Ullom of Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Evelyn Koschik of Clairton and Robynne Ruschel of Washington; a brother, James J. Ullom of Washington R.D.1; five sisters, Betty J. Bower of Hickory, Geraldine J. Russell of San Francisco, Calif., Frances E. Dodd and Jean M. Dodd, both of Canonsburg, and Shirley A. Gizoni of Washington; nine grandchildren, including Sean Ullom, Tonya Ullom, John Bombera Jr., Robert Koschik Jr., David W. Ullom, Michelle Ullom and Jenice Ullom; and three great-grandchildren. Deceased are four brothers, Harry Kibe Ullom Jr., and William C., Ova C. and George R. Ullom; and a sister, Ruth E. Roach.

Mary M. Vogt
Lifelong resident of Mon Valley area
Mary M. Vogt, 82, of Monongahela, died Friday, February 26, 1999, in Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. She was born August 28, 1916, in Baird, a daughter of Michael and Domenica Corli Togni. Mrs. Vogt was a lifelong resident of the Mon Valley area, where she was a member of Transfiguration Church and Monongahela Senior Citizens Center. Surviving are two nieces, Cindy Togni, with whom she resided, and Michelle Cain of Finleyville; three nephews, Robert, William and Michael Togni, all of Finleyville; and several other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Her husband, Frank Vogt, died January 6, 1985. Also deceased are a sister, Catherine Mercurio; and three brothers, Robert, Bert Sr. and Theodore Togni.

William Williams
Forward Township dairy farmer
William Williams, 84, of Forward Township, Bunola, died Sunday, February 28, 1999, in his home. He was born April 16, 1914, in Westmoreland County, a son of David and Margaret Dunnick Williams. He spent most of his life in Forward Township, where he owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. Mr. Williams was a member of Loyal Order of Moose 142 in Elizabeth. Surviving are five sons, William Williams, John Williams and Paul Williams, all of Forward Township, and Harry Williams of Elizabeth Township and Glenn Williams of Fallowfield Township; two daughters, Janet Langford of Monongahela and Margaret Glick of Manassas, Va.; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Deceased are his wife, Anna Sarah Hart Williams, who died July 28, 1993; four brothers, David, Daniel, Henry and Jacob Williams; and five sisters, Laura Loucks, Florence Fetchen, Rebecca Piovesan, Margaret Gurney and Polly Fleese. Interment will be in Monongahela Valley Memorial Park, Donora. Memorial contributions may be made to Bunola Church of the Nazarene, Elizabeth Road, Bunola, PA 15020.

William O. Williams
Retired coal miner was WWII veteran
William O. Williams, 80, of Washington, died Friday, March 5, 1999, in South Hills Convalescent Center, Canonsburg. He was born November 14, 1918, in Canonsburg, a son of William O. and Nettie Dempster Williams. A retired coal miner, he had worked at Westland Coal Mine of Consolidated Coal Co. Mr. Williams was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was twice married. His first wife, Alice A. Burgess Williams, is deceased. His second wife, Ella Porter Williams, survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Rhonda L. Dungee of Washington; five sons, Leslie Williams of the state of California, Ricky Williams of Ohio, Myron Williams of Houston, Kevin Ellis Williams of Canonsburg and Michael O. Williams of Pittsburgh; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Teckla Davis of Houston. Deceased are a daughter, Jacqueline Williams; three sisters, Sarah Robinson, Gladys Young and Harriet Williams; and two brothers, Henry and Joseph Williams. Harold E. Wonderling
Nemacolin resident formerly of Donora
Harold E. Wonderling, 61, of Nemacolin, formerly of Donora and Cameron, W.Va., died Friday, February 26, 1999, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg. He was born June 29, 1937, in Maywood, Ill., a son of the late Harold Alder and Verna Olsen Wonderling. Mr. Wonderling graduated from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn., and was a member of Lutheran Missouri Synod. He was a retired office supervisor for Rose Glass Block Co. in Donora. Mr. Wonderling was a member of the Cameron Senior Citizens, a former member of West Greene Lions Club and Cameron Volunteer Fire Company. On March 3, 1962, he married Mildred (Millie) Cox, who survives. Also surviving is a brother, Howard D. Wonderling of Florida.

Clarence L. Young
Retired glassworker was cattle farmer
Clarence L. (Tite) Young, 82, of Cracraft Road, Washington, died Friday, February 26, 1999, in the Washington Hospital emergency room after being struck by an automobile. He was born February 12, 1917, in Marianna, a son of Clarence Sylvester and Iva Billingsley Young. Mr. Young was employed as a glassworker by Hazel Atlas Glass Co., Continental Can and Brockway, retiring in 1978. He also was a cattle farmer. He was a member of the Alpine Club, B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 776, the Eagles and the Independent Club. Surviving are his wife, Florence A. Strawn Young; two daughters, Marjorie J. Young at home and Reita Romaine Young of Washington; four sisters, Buelah Ritchie, Gertrude Hertig and Florence Phillips, all of Washington, and Margaret Heatley of Plainfield, Conn.; a granddaughter, Rebecca Sharpe; and a great-grandchild. Deceased are six sisters, Mary Miller, Thelma and Evelyn Young, Dorothy Troutman, Ethel McElroy and Romaine Baker; and six brothers, Clyde, Herbert, Andrew, Harold, Myron and Howard Young.

Edward L. Thompson
55-year member of Houston Fire Department
Edward L. Thompson, 79, formerly of Houston, died Sunday, February 28, 1999, in Canonsburg Hospital, after an extended illness. He was born September 11, 1919, in Chartiers Township, a son of Charles S. and Laura Edna Morgan Thompson. Mr. Thompson graduated from Canonsburg High School and was vice president/manager of GDC Finance Co. in Canonsburg for 28 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Houston and was a member of Houston Volunteer Fire Department for 55 years. Mr. Thompson was a 50-year member of the F&AM lodge and Jefferson College Historical Society, both in Canonsburg. For many years he was a football and basketball official on the high school and college levels. He was inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Washington-Greene County chapter, in 1992. On April 18, 1942, he married Jane Peacock, who died February 22, 1984. Surviving are one daughter, Terri T. Johnson of Upper St. Clair, with whom he made his home; one granddaughter, Laura E. Johnson; and one brother, William M. Thompson of Antioch, Calif. Deceased, in addition to his wife, are two sisters, Sarah Johnston and Dorothy Bennett; and one brother, Charles L. Thompson. At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. Interment in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg, will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Houston Volunteer Fire Department, South Main Street, Houston, PA 15342. Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Bentleyville.

Bernard DiVincenzo
Former owner/operator of Bernard's Bar
Bernard DiVincenzo, 93, of Jefferson Avenue, Washington, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 7, 1999, in his home. He was born November 15, 1905, in Washington, the son of Carmine and Anna Brigante DiVincenzo. Mr. DiVincenzo owned and operated Bernard's Bar, a tavern in Washington for many years. He also worked for Washington Tin Plate and Pittsburgh Railway, and Abel Funeral Home in Washington for more than 40 years. Mr. DiVincenzo had been a former member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Washington, where he joined the Holy Name Society when he was 17. He later became a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church in Washington for more than 50 years, during which time he continued his membership in the Holy Name Society, making him the longest active member of the society in both parishes. He was a member of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America Alpine Star Lodge 9 and Moose Lodge 22, both in Washington. For many years he was an offertory counter at St. Hilary Church. He also was an active volunteer for bingo and fish fries at the church. On August 16, 1928, in Washington, he married Mary Gualteri, who died December 23, 1991. Surviving are two sons, Bernard DiVincenzo Jr. of Kent, Wash., and Carmine DiVincenzo of Clayton, Calif.; two daughters, Anne Williams of Concord, Calif., and Clara Butterfield of Washington; a brother, Armand DiVincenzo; five grandchildren, Marianne O'Brien, Mark J. Williams, James L. Williams III, Sean P. Butterfield and Charla Butterfield; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, Adam, Dominick and Joseph; and two sisters, Teresa and Concetta.

Roy R. Patterson
Native of Washington
Roy R. Patterson, 71, of 20 Williams Street, Bradford, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in Bradford Nursing Pavilion. He was born September 15, 1927, in Washington, a son of Ambrose G. and Lucy Voorhees Patterson. Mr. Patterson was a graduate of Washington High School and, since 1954, a resident of Bradford, where he retired in 1990 as a 40-year technician with Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. He was a member and sang in the choir of First Baptist Church and attended First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Washington Lodge 164 of the F&AM and Coudersport Consistory. Mr. Patterson served with the U.S. Navy as a seaman first class during World War II. On January 11, 1951, in Washington, he married Barbara Birmingham Patterson, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Cynthia D. Glady and Elizabeth R. Blair, both of Bradford, and Billie F. Patterson of Bristol, Conn.; four grandchildren; a stepgrandson; a brother, Robert V. Patterson of Houghton Lake; three sisters, Lucy Edmonds of Tulsa, Okla., Edna Ball of Tallahassee, Fla., and Ruth Waltz of New Stanton; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a daughter, Patricia Ann Patterson, who died in 1967; four brothers; and two sisters.

Thurman Hall Jones
Retired from Hupp Corp. in Ohio
Thurman Hall Jones, 77, of Celina, Ohio, formerly of Dilliner, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, in Joint Township Memorial Hospital, Saint Marys, Ohio. He was born October 8, 1921, in Dilliner, a son of Ernest and Annie Haney Jones. Mr. Jones retired from Hupp Corp., Cleveland, Ohio, after 33 years of service. He was a member of Teamsters Local 73, Cleveland. On December 24, 1948, he married Helen Delbrook, who died in March 1991. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Williams of Celina, and Marlene Williams of Muskego, Wis.; five grandchildren, Angela, Jonathan, Tiffany, Justin and Victoria Williams; and a brother, George Jones of Dilliner. Deceased are his wife; three sisters, Pearl, Violet and Asa; and two brothers, Ernest and James.

Joan M. Williams
Former antique shop owner
Joan M. Williams, 63, of 304 Washington Street, Bentley Tower, Bentleyville, formerly of Berkley, Mich., and Beallsville, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, in Washington Hospital. She was born June 4, 1935, in Washington, a daughter of Dale Spitznogle McBride of Buffalo, N.Y., and the late William B. McBride. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Williams was self-employed as a antique shop owner and operator. She was an interior designer. She attended Syracuse University in New York. Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a son, Jason J. Lagowski of Lapeer, Mich.; a daughter, Lisa Rambo of Ferndale, Mich.; nine grandchildren; her stepmother, Patricia McBride of Emporium; a half-brother, Brooks McBride of Emporium; and several nieces and nephews. A son, Jeffrey J. Lagowski, died March 27, 1992.

John J. Hewitt
Longtime farmer was retired security guard
John J. Hewitt, 69, of West Finley R.D.2, died unexpectedly at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 1999, in the Greene County Memorial Hospital emergency room. He was born September 30, 1929, in Richhill Township (Crabapple), a son of John Nicholas and Lulu Zelphia Pettit Hewitt, and had resided in Richhill Township most of his life. Mr. Hewitt was a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church in Wind Ridge and attended Nebo and Burnsville schools. Mr. Hewitt was a farmer most of his life and was a former employee of Findlay Refractories, the Bishop Creamery and the I. Richman Co. in Washington. He was employed as a security guard with Hackney Security, Firm Security and was last employed by Pinkerton Security at Greene County Memorial Hospital and the Department of Public Welfare office in Waynesburg prior to his 1991 retirement because of ill health. He enjoyed woodworking and raising quail, chickens and peacocks. He was a former musician within the tri-state area, where he played the electric steel guitar and often accompanied his late brother, Dolph E. Hewitt. Surviving are his wife, Mary Leota Finnegan Hewitt, whom he married April 18,1953; two sons, William E. Hewitt of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and John W. Hewitt of Wind Ridge R.D.1; a daughter, Linda D. Naylor of West Finley R.D.2; two brothers, Don T. and Fred W. Hewitt, both of Graysville; seven grandchildren, Chris Naylor, Megan Arbogast, Jamie Connor and Janice, Beth, John W. Jr. and Billy Hewitt; two great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren, Tom Hoag and Angie Cox. Deceased are three brothers, James A., Herman B. and Dolph E. Hewitt; three sisters, Jane Lucille Whitlatch, Dorothy Alice Williams and Virginia "Sally" Barnhart; a granddaughter, Nicole Arbogast; and a step-grandson, Christopher Hoag.

Carol Ann Clutter
Georgia resident born in Houston
Carol Ann Clutter, 55, of Suwanee, Ga., died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in an auto accident. Mrs. Clutter was born November 19, 1943, in Houston, a daughter of the late Louis Fabian and Anne Supancic Fabian, who survives in Houston. She was co-owner of Mailbox & Pack in Norcross, Ga., and a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Dunwoody, Ga. Surviving are her husband, Tracy Clutter; two daughters, Kristen Jordan of Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., and Jennifer Clutter of Atlanta, Ga.; a grandson, Matthew Jordan; a brother, Dick Fabian of Canonsburg; and two sisters, Dorothy Bird of Canonsburg and Pat Williams of Houston. Services will be held in Georgia under the arrangement of the Bill Head Funeral Home Duluth Chapel. Joseph Wylie Hartzog
Army veteran of WW II and Korea
Joseph Wylie Hartzog, 78, of Maple Terrace View, Washington, died at 8:55 a.m. Friday, May 15, 1999, in Washington Hospital. He had been ill since March. He was born March 29, 1921, in Washington, a son of James and Anna C. Clemens Hartzog. Mr. Hartzog spent 16 1/2 years with the U.S. Army, retiring because of an injury. He served during World War II and in Korea. He was a drill sergeant and served in the military police in New Guinea and the Philippines in Mindanao and the Zig Zag Pass and had been with the 24th Infantry Division. Mr. Hartzog was a plumber with Pat Charmley and worked in construction with Charles Hobbs. He was a former member of the Jessop Club, Alpine Club and Arden Club. On April 14, 1954, he married Tomiko Nishimura, who survives. Also surviving are a son, James W. Hartzog of Gordon, Ga.; four daughters, Linda Williams and June Cass, both of Washington, and Linda A. Smith and Wanda J. Howard, both of Macon, Ga.; a brother, Thomas Hartzog of Washington; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Deceased are six brothers, David, James, Russell, John, Robert and Paul; and four sisters, Mary, Pearl, Emmie and Arlane.

Fred H. Sturm
Former employee of U.S. Postal Service
Fred H. Sturm, 93, of Finleyville died Friday, May 21, 1999, in Heartland of Clarksburg, W.Va. He was born January 21, 1906, in Pittsburgh, a son of Henry and Mary Muhler Sturm. He was formerly employed by the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the Letter Carrier Association. Mr. Sturm was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Finleyville. Surviving are a son, Michael Sturm of Bridgeport, W.Va.; a daughter, Dorothy Williams of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; three sisters, Caroline Shaw, Madelyn Day and Catherine Wright; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Kenneth A. Anthony
U.S. Army vet was teacher in Canon-McMillan schools
Kenneth A. Anthony, 68, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, November 11, 1999, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was born February 5, 1931, in Canonsburg, a son of Clarence "C.W." and Marguerite P. Williams Anthony. Mr. Anthony, a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College, was a teacher in Canon-McMillan School District. He also served in the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Post 902 in Houston. His wife, Patricia Lou McClaren Anthony, is deceased. Surviving are a son, Kenneth J. Anthony of Oakmont; a daughter, Amy Lynn Lorenzi of Houston; six grandchildren, Corey, Brendan and Jason Anthony and Andrew, Morgan and Gabrielle Lorenzi; a sister, Gwen Lee Zanaglio of Muse; and a brother, Donald Anthony of Canonsburg. Katherine L. Willis, 78, of Clarksville, died Monday November 22, 1999, in Washington Hospital. She was born January 4, 1921, in Flint, Mich., a daughter of James and Lee Anna Baker Williams. Mrs. Willis was a lifelong resident of Clarksville and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Pitt Gas, Clarksville R.D.1, where she served on the usher board and Missionary Society. She also was a member of the Good Samaritan Club and Senior Citizens Club. On March 17, 1943, she married Sanders A. Willis Jr., who died March 29, 1980. Surviving are two sons, Ronald Willis, with whom she made her home, and Leonard Willis of Washington; a daughter, Deborah Willis of Petersburg, Va.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Sanders A. Willis III; and a sister, Lillie Belle Waters.

Clarence G. Williams, 80, of Fallowfield Township, died Saturday, November 6, 1999, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born February 8, 1919, in Fallowfield Township, a son of Gibson H. and Lelia Amos Williams. Mr. Williams was a self-employed farmer who later worked for Charleroi School District in the maintenance department and as a bus driver. He was a member of Fallowfield Township Grange 1382. Surviving are a daughter, Esther Burke of Fallowfield Township; four grandchildren, Lelia, Erika, Stephanie and Henry Burke; and a nephew, John H. Pocky. Deceased are a sister, Mary M. Pocky, and two half sisters, Dorothy Silbaugh and Wilda Sadosky.

James A. Greely
Co-owner of Jimmy G's Bar and Grill
James A. Greely, 50, of Washington, died Thursday, September 30, 1999, in Washington Hospital. He was born April 15, 1949, in Canonsburg, a son of Callista Williams Greely of Canonsburg and the late Arthur James Greely. Mr. Greely was a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School and Gateway Technical Institute of Pittsburgh. He was co-owner of Jimmy G's Bar and Grill in Canonsburg. Mr. Greely was a member of Central Assembly of God in Houston, president of Greater Beneficial Union 454 of Canonsburg and a member of Sons of Italy of Canonsburg. On December 5, 1970, he married Mary Kay Piccolo, who survives. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins. Deceased are his maternal grandparents, William H. and Jennie Alderson Williams; and his paternal grandparents, Charles and Marjorie Armbruster Greely.

Mary G. Wallo
Member of First UP Church of Houston
Mary G. Wallo, 86, of Houston, died Wednesday, October 13, 1999, in McMurray Hills Manor. She was born May 21, 1913, in Washington, a daughter of William and Sylvia Ozenbaugh. Mrs. Wallo was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Houston and a member of a ladies card club for more than 35 years. She was also a presser for Quality Home Laundry, Washington. On August 1, 1936, she married Michael Wallo, who died April 26, 1974. Raymond L. Williams, 88, of Ellenton, Fla., formerly of Bentleyville, died Friday, October 1, 1999, at home. He was born June 18, 1911, in Bentleyville, a son of Leslie and Priscilla S. Horn Williams. Mr. Williams was a 1929 graduate of Bentleyville High School and retired in 1973 from West Penn Power Co. He was a member of Bentleyville United Methodist Church and the former Bentleyville Rifle Team. Surviving are two daughters, Marion Rae Marcozzi of Ellenton and Beverly Knapich of Hunlock Creek; a grandson, Raymond Marcozzi; two granddaughters, Joellen Walter and Kellie Sheakoski; three great-granddaughters; and one great-great-grandson. Deceased are his wife, Joella Smiley Williams, who died October 18, 1989; and a sister, Mildred McCracken.

Donna Lynne Mastrangelo, 63, of Canonsburg, died at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, October 28, 1999, in Washington Hospital. She was born January 28, 1936, in Westland, a daughter of the late Joseph and Bessie Mae Williams Carter. Mrs. Mastrangelo was a member of Chartiers Hill United Presbyterian Church, Canonsburg. She attended Cecil High School. Before her retirement in March of 1998, she was employed by Canon-McMillan School District. Mrs. Mastrangelo enjoyed bowling, dancing, music and traveling. On October 18, 1952, she married Sidney D. Mastrangelo, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Sidney Michael Mastrangelo of Dunellon, Fla., Scott David Mastrangelo of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Dean Ross Mastrangelo of Carnegie; a daughter, Joni Lynne Gizzo of Venetia; three brothers, Cal Carter of Canonsburg, Donald Carter of Southview and Richard Carter of Bethel Park; two sisters, Laura Kennedy and Shirley Thomas, both of Canonsburg; five grandchildren, Kara Podrasky, Ricky Gizzo and Elaine, Ashley and Dane Mastrangelo; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. She was employed as a dietitian for Woodville State Hospital and was a member of Mosiwidael Temple 38 of Pittsburgh. Helen Marie Bosko, 77, of Monongahela, died Wednesday, October 6, 1999, in her home. She was born November 11, 1921, in Monongahela, a daughter of George and Elizabeth Paterson Peters. Mrs. Bosko was a member of First Baptist Church in Monongahela. She was employed as a secretary at Pittsburgh Gear and Machine Co. and was manager of the former Peters Restaurant in Monongahela. Surviving is her husband, John George Bosko, with whom she celebrated 57 years of marriage May 23, 1999. Also surviving are two sons, John M. Bosko of Derry, N.H., and George H. Bosko of Canonsburg; a daughter, Rosemary S. Kenneth M. Grim, 69, of Wind Ridge R.D.1, died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 1999, in his home. He had been ill since November 1998. He was born July 31, 1930, in Wind Ridge, a son of Josie Olive Barnhart Grim Shaw of Graysville and the late Robert Lincoln Grim. Mr. Grim was a resident of the Wind Ridge and Richhill Township areas all his life. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and a 1948 graduate of Richhill High School. Mr. Grim was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a corporal with the 1745 Co. K, 7th Infantry Regiment. He received the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, U.N. Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. He was a former employee of Pittsburgh Pipe Cleaning Co. and was last employed as a rural route carrier at Graysville Post Office for 32 years prior to his March 1994 retirement. Mr. Grim was a life member of the National Rifle Association and a charter member of Graysville Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed playing cards with family friends, Jean and Ralph Jackson. On October 5, 1957, he married Mary Lou Mitchell, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Robert C. Grim of Claysville and Douglas E. Grim of Wind Ridge; a daughter, Deborah S. Dahlberg of Spring, Texas; three brothers, Jerry Grim of Graysville, Russell Grim of Wind Ridge and Lanny Grim of Claysville R.D.1; a sister, Carol Stein of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Amanda, Bryan and Anthony Phillips and Callie and Andrew Grim.

Virginia Williams
Burgettstown School District teacher
Virginia Kushner Williams, 77, of the Beechview section of Pittsburgh, formerly of Burgettstown, died Monday, September 20, 1999, in Country Meadows of South Hills, Bridgeville. She was born April 27, 1922, in McKeesport, a daughter of Michael Kushner, a famous local football player of his era, and Virginia Coulter Kushner. Mrs. Williams was a 1939 graduate of McKeesport High School and went on to graduate from Duquesne University, with a bachelor's in education in 1943, performing her student teaching in the now closed Fifth Avenue High School in the Hill District. She obtained her master's of education degree from Duquesne in 1974. Starting in the fall of 1943, she started a teaching career in Burgettstown School District. She taught at various times in the kindergarten, elementary and high school level, as well as serving as a guidance counselor. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Duquesne Alumni Council. She served on her local board of elections and was a member of Madonna High School Board. Her hobbies included traveling in Europe and being a fervent fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. On August 15, 1946, she married Ernest "Jap" Williams, a Burgettstown resident and a World War II veteran. He died November 7, 1993. Surviving are two daughters, Roberta V. Williams Bagnato of Cleveland, Ohio, and Christine Williams McEntee of Arlington, Va.; a son, Thomas M. Williams of Indianapolis, Ind.; five grandchildren, Joseph Bagnato, Erin and Kelley Williams and Matthew and Brendan McEntee; three sisters, Madeline Belback of Duquesne, Rita Belback of Bloomingdale, Ill., and Catherine Crovak of North Huntingdon. At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitations. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown, with the Rev. Richard J. Tuskey officiating. Harriet Ann Williams Rafail, 76, of Uniontown, died Thursday, September 23, 1999, in her home. She was born November 9, 1922, in Uniontown, a daughter of Frank and Mary Simon Williams. Mrs. Rafail was a member of St. George Maronite Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild of St. George and the Altar Rosary Society, where she led the ladies in reciting the rosary for many years. She was a 1940 graduate of Union High School and was an active neighborhood chairman of the Leukemia Society, Heart Association and Cancer Society. Her husband of 55 years, Elias Gestin Rafail, survives. Also surviving are seven sons, Robert, Richard and Mark, all of Uniontown, Alan of Jefferson, Dr. Paul E. of McMurray, Dr. Frank of San Diego, Calif, and Vincent Rafail of Pittsburgh; and three daughters, Mary Jane Artis and Gale Jadyk, both of Uniontown, and Margaret Smalley of Dunbar; 12 grandchildren, Bethany and Krissy Jadyk, David, Stephanie, Thomas and Suzanne Artis, Ruth Barton, Ashley, Mary Kate, Michael and Elias John Rafail and Chrissy Steiner; two great-granddaughters; a brother, Frank Williams of Uniontown; and many nieces and nephews. She was born April 12, 1918, in Washington, a daughter of Lindley T. and Emma Shrader Gray. On August 17, 1935, in Washington, she married Charles O. Clark, who died May 29, 1992. Mrs. Clark was Protestant and a homemaker. Sara Mae Vavases Scott, 74, of Cumberland, Md., formerly of Bowie, Md., and Brownsville, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, in Memorial Hospital. She was born April 24, 1926, in Brownsville, a daughter of Clyde and Jane Addis Williams. Mrs. Scott was a retired secretary. She attended Winifred Road Church of Christ and was a member of Someone Cares Support Group of the church. Her husband, John C. Scott, is deceased. Joseph Palma III

Joseph Palma III, 78, of Pinole, Calif., formerly of Monongahela, died February 2, 2000, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Palma was a member of Company A, which was called to duty by the Army in 1942. He was sent to Panama to join the 158th Infantry Regiment, the Bushmasters. The regiment served in New Guina and the Philippines. Mr. Palma also was a crane operator at Unocal Refinery for 43 years in the state of California. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Willa Dean Palma; his mother, Clelia Palma of Richmond, Calif.; four sisters, Constance Johnson and Bette Fitch, both of San Rafael, Calif., Olive Silvastrini of Adameda, Calif., and Mary Walker of Richmond, Calif.; and one grandchild, Anthony Palma. Deceased are a son, Joe Palma, who died in an industrial accident in 1975; and his father, Joseph Palma II, formerly of Monongahela, who died in 1969. Kevin R. Dunn, 36, of Amwell Township, formerly of Abilene, Texas, died at 5:39 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2000, in St. Francis Medical Center, Pittsburgh, following a lengthy illness. He was born October 22, 1963, in Washington, a son of Bernard D. (Don) Dunn of Washington and the late Carol B. Ruffing Dunn. As part of a military family, Mr. Dunn lived in several places stateside and abroad. He was a graduate of Zweibrucken-American High School in Zweibrucken, Germany, where he was in the ROTC program. He later received an associate degree in computer drafting. Mr. Dunn was employed at Washington Wal-Mart as a sales associate until illness caused his disability. He was Catholic, and enjoyed hunting, bicycling and photography. Surviving, in addition to his father, are his stepmother, Marian Post McBride Dunn of Washington; two brothers, Keith Dunn of Pflugerville, Texas, and Kenny Dunn of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Karen Dunn of New York, N.Y., and Kathleen Dunn of East Rutherford, N.J.; three half-sisters, Linda Dunn and Dawn Wade, both of Washington, and Denise Levers of Bentleyville; a stepbrother, William McBride of Avella; three stepsisters, Wendy Irey and Kim Chadwick, both of Washington, and Lynn Brewer of Moon Township; and several nieces and nephews.

John "Casey" Evanoka, 83, of Canonsburg, died Wednesday, January 5, 2000, in Canonsburg Hospital. He was born in Canonsburg May 1, 1916, a son of Andrew and Anna Myrgo Evanoka. Mr. Evanoka was a member of Steam Fitters Local 449, Pittsburgh, working for Power Piping of Pittsburgh the last 20 years. He also was a member of the Labor Temple of Canonsburg. He and his wife, Virginia Hixon, resided at the Hixon Homestead Farm in the village of Linden since 1947. Mrs. Hixon died April 16, 1998. Surviving are two sons, John Evanoka of East Amherst, N.Y., and Mark Evanoka of Canonsburg; five grandchildren, Adam, Brian, Mark, Kristen and Megan Evanoka; and a brother, Andrew Evanoka of Strabane. She had been in failing health the past several years, but her death was unexpected. She was born June 6, 1939, in Newburn, N.J., a daughter of Hubert Edison White of Claysville and the late Rosemary Rippitoe White. Mrs. Bennett was a resident of Washington and Greene County areas most of her life. She was Protestant. She was owner and operator of horseback riding stables at the former Big Country Ranch in West Finley. She had been employed as a waitress and cook for several years, last employed by Casey's Snack Bar in Washington. Surviving, in addition to her father, are two daughters, Ginger Hewitt of Morgantown, W.Va., and Melissa Toland of East Finley Township; three sons, Gene Petrie of Mt. Morris, Kenneth Mundy of Clinton, Md., and Russell Curtis Bennett of Waynesburg; a brother, Hugh Edison White of Prosperity; a sister, Charlotte Y. White of Mechanicsville; 17 grandchildren, including Victoria Mefford, whom Mrs. Bennett was raising; and a great-granddaughter. He was employed as a steelworker for Jessop Steel for more than 30 years, retiring in 1981. Mr. Clark was a member of the Jessop Club and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. She was employed as a nurse at Mayview State Hospital in the TB center for 14 years, until her retirement. She enjoyed making flowers, crocheting and ceramics. On January 3, 1938, she married Jacob Cursi, who died September 15, 1961. Dacie Helen Sloan Cutright, 90, formerly of Garards Fort, died Friday, July 14, 2000, in Beverly Health Care Center, Waynesburg. She was born January 27, 1910, in Cubana, W.Va., a daughter of the Rev. Hayden D. and Barbara Ella Simmons Sloan. Mrs. Cutright spent her youth in the Queens, W.Va., area. She was a housewife, a replacement postmaster and a Greene Township tax collector. Mrs. Cutright was a member of Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church in Garards Fort. On February 9, 1931, she married Vennis D. Cutright, who died January 24, 1995. Surviving are two sons, Marvin D. Cutright of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Hayden Cutright of Sterling Heights, Mich.; a daughter, Lavonne Carole Bargerstock of Garards Fort; seven grandchildren, Mary Eileen Brook, Susan Elaine and Ronald Thomas Cutright, Angelia Jane Abraham, Clare D. Dennis J. Dimmack, 63, of Burgettstown, died Friday, July 14, 2000, in Weirton(W.Va.) Medical Center. He was born August 20, 1936, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Ramsay Dimmack. Mr. Dimmack was retired from Operating Engineers Local 66. He was a member and four-time past master of Richard Vaux Lodge 454 in Burgettstown. On September 2, 1961, he married Dolores Bailey Dimmack, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Denise McCormick and Deborah Dimmack, both of Burgettstown; two grandchildren, Saramarie and Kristen McCormick; and a sister, Jane Huffmyer of Virginia. A brother, Martin Dimmack, is deceased.

Olga Dufek, 74, of Vine Street, Monongahela, formerly of New Eagle, died Friday, July 14, 2000, in Haven Crest Nursing Home, Carroll Township. She was born May 27, 1926, in Romania, a daughter of Emilian and Stephania Werezak Czubej. Mrs. Dufek immigrated to the United States in 1952 and attained citizenship Aug. 15, 1980. She was a member of Transfiguration Church in Monongahela. Mrs. Dufek was a homemaker and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed flowers, polkas and German music. In 1945, in Austria, she married Peter Dufek, who died December 10, 1980. Surviving are three sons, Thomas G. Dufek of New Eagle, Peter Dufek Jr. of Pittsburgh and Paul Dufek of Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren, Cindee Shifflet, Pamela Tolar, Heidi Lemley and Thomas J. and Sara E. Forney L. Dulaney, 103, of Spraggs, died at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2000, in Bialko's Rest Home, Waynesburg. He was born November 6, 1896, a son of Walter and Ida L. Headlee Dulaney. Mr. Dulaney was a member of Spraggs United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening and working with wood. He had worked as a blacksmith for several years, was a carpenter and raised stock. On March 27, 1918, he married Grace Zimmerman Dulaney, who died November 25, 1979. Surviving are a son, William Lindsay Dulaney of Spraggs R.D.1; five grandchildren, Walter Dulaney Jr., Sue Ellen Benner, Terry Dulaney, Larry Dulaney and Coral Westfall; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sons, Walter V. Dulaney and Reason Franklin Dulaney; two sisters, Mary M. Dulaney and Martha Gutberlet; and three brothers, F. Ray Dulaney, David H. Dulaney and Rex Dulaney.

Mary Hook Dvorak
35-year member of hospital auxiliary
Mary Hook Dvorak, 91, of North Jefferson Avenue, Canonsburg, died Friday, July 14, 2000, in Greenery Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg. She was born August 30, 1908, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Martin and Julia Hook. Mrs. Dvorak was a 1926 graduate of Cecil High School. She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg for many years, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers. Mrs. Dvorak an active member of Women's Auxiliary of Canonsburg General Hospital for more than 35 years and a member of TWIG at the hospital. She was active with Canonsburg Senior Citizens and enjoyed playing cards. Mrs. Dvorak was employed as an assembler at the former RCA plant in Washington County for many years. In 1928, in Wisconsin, she married William J. Dvorak, who died in 1968. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Willhoft of Washington; a son, William M. Dvorak of Canonsburg; two grandchildren, William H. and Rebecca L. Dvorak; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are two daughters, Donna and Delores Dvorak, who died in infancy; and three brothers, John, Andy and George Hook.

Wilbert James Ealy
West Finley farmer, longtime bus driver
Wilbert James Ealy, 81, of West Finley (East Finley Township), died Friday, July 14, 2000, in Humbert Lane Health Care Center, Washington. He was born November 27, 1918, in East Finley Township, a son of Robert and Nannie Tustin Ealy. Mr. Ealy served as a private first class in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received four overseas service bars for his contribution in the European-African campaigns. He was a farmer and drove buses for Swart's Bus Co. of West Alexander and other area companies for 45 years. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Edna Ruth Ealy; two daughters, Janice Jones of West Finley and Elizabeth Dodson of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Cecil Ealy of Prosperity; a sister, Betty Ealy of Waynesburg; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A brother, Herschel Ealy, is deceased.
