Michael W. Danley, 40, of Canonsburg, died Tuesday, January 2, 2001, in Charles House, Canonsburg, following a lengthy illness. He was born July 16, 1960, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Charles and Catherine Danley. Surviving are two daughters, Danielle and Kaitlyn Danley; three sisters, Doreen Black, Doris Shirey and Patricia Finkel; two brothers, Thomas and Charles Danley; and several nieces and nephews.

Linda Francesca DeRose
Member of Immaculate Conception Church
Linda Francesca DeRose of Donnan Avenue, Washington, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2001, in Humbert Lane Health Care Center, Washington. She was born in Italy, a daughter of Lorenzo and Maria Costabile DeRose. Miss DeRose had been a resident of Washington since 1916. She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church, a member of Divina Madrea Lodge 1701, Catholic Daughters of America Court 1651, Confraternity of Christian Mothers, Alpine Lodge, Covenant Club and Washington Hospital Women's Auxiliary. Miss DeRose had been employed by Maytag until its local store's closing, and Dillie Motor Freight Inc., retiring in 1978. She was a graduate of Washington High School and Washington Business College. Surviving are a cousin, George Laneve of Newell, W.Va.; and three cousins in Italy. Deceased is a brother, Samuel DeRose, who died June 1951.

Harry P. Duvall

Harry P. Duvall died Thursday, December 28, 2000, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born October 17, 1918, in Waynesburg, a son of Charles L. and Ida Clark Duvall. Mr. Duvall spent 33 years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Fort Worth, Texas, before retiring. He was married to Eleanora Duvall, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Tanya Church of Las Vegas, Nev., and Michelle Leech of Texas; a son, Charles Duvall of Marietta, Ga.; and six grandchildren. Deceased are three brothers, Orville, Sam and Melvin.

Freda Mae Ridenour

Freda Mae Bosley Ridenour, 61, of Pentress, W.Va., died Monday, January 1, 2001, in her home. She was born May 28, 1939, in Hagans, W.Va., a daughter of the late Osie and Beatrice Sims Bosley. Mrs. Ridenour was a member of the auxiliaries of Mt. Morris American Legion Post 992 and Morgantown Moose Lodge 264. Surviving are two sons, Gerald Myers and Bryan Myers, both of Pentress; a daughter, Belinda Myers of Wadestown, W.Va.; a stepdaughter, Mary Ellen Weaver of Sandy Lake; three brothers, Osie "Sonny" Bosley of Barberton, Ohio, Dennis Bosley of Core, Route 1, W.Va., and Ricky Bosley of Mt. Morris; four sisters, Shelby Leary of Blacksville, W.Va., Kathleen Kennedy of Akron, Ohio, Phyllis Bosley of Morgantown, W.Va., and Sue Henry of Lorain, Ohio; four grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. Deceased are her second husband, Gary Ridenour, who died June 27, 1978; her first husband, Gerald Myers, who died July 19, 1989; and a brother, Andrew Bosley.

Viola A. Bise Santella

Viola A. Bise Santella, 77, of Crawford Road, Fredericktown, died Tuesday, January 2, 2001, in her home following a lengthy illness. She was born November 6, 1923, in Rices Landing, a daughter of Eastman and Slinda Ankrom Bise. Mrs. Santella was a member of the Parish of St. Oliver Plunkett, a member of Fredericktown Civic Club and a member of John Corbly Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution in Waynesburg. She was employed at the former First National Bank and Trust Co. in Fredericktown, retiring in 1988. During World War II, she worked for a defense plant in Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Santella enjoyed traveling and had been a season-ticket holder for Civic Light Opera and Symphony in Pittsburgh for many years. On May 26, 1943, on Wallawalla, Wash., Air Force Base, she married Albert C. Santella, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert C. Santella of Clarksville; a daughter, Brenda L. Nichols of Fredericktown; three grandchildren, Nicole M. Santella, Jessica A. Beck and Aaron T. Beck; two sisters, Malvine Zollars of Waynesburg and Audrey Jacobs of Waynesburg R.D. 1; and several nieces and nephews.

Irene Watson

Irene Watson, 83, of Bridgeville, died Monday, January 1, 2001. She was born in Connecticut, a daughter of Julia Bako. Mrs. Watson worked for many years in John J. Kane Hospital, Scott Township. Surviving are two sons, James S. Watson of Bridgeville and Roy W. Watson of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Marialice "Cissy" Ritch of Maryland; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Deceased is her husband, James Watson.

Louise F. Cole

Louise F. Cole, 73, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Avella and Washington, died Sunday, December 17, 2000, in her home. She was born May 23, 1927, in Washington County, a daughter of John and Mary Morgan Friend. Mrs. Cole was a homemaker and a retired glass worker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lisbon, Fla. Mrs. Cole had resided in Florida since 1985. On January 29, 1945, in Greensburg, she married William Cole, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Sandra Menard of Maumee, Ohio; two sisters, Patricia Vicheck of Virginia and Mary Abbott of New Jersey; two grandchildren, George Menard and Michelle Davenport; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services and interment were held in Florida.

Nick Evosirch, 83, of Mather, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, in Beverly Health Care, Waynesburg. He was born November 27, 1917, in Irwin, a son of Michael and Sarah Stepanovich Evosirch. Mr. Evosirch was a laborer who lived most of his life in Mather. Surviving are three brothers, Rudy Evosirch of Clarksville, Mike Evosirch of Jefferson and Eli Evosirch of Oxford; and two sisters, Mary Kraich of Waynesburg and Ann Coughenour of Elizabeth. Deceased are a brother, Pete Evosirch; and four sisters, Rose Orell, Ann Doshen, Katie Retus and Mildred Kravats.

Homer L. Shaw
Ohio metallurgical engineer born in Washington
Homer L. Shaw, 83, of 52 South Cadillac Drive, Boardman, Ohio, died at 1:45 p.m. Monday, January 1, 2001, in Northside Hospital, Youngstown, Ohio. He was born May 9, 1917, in Washington, a son of W. Lawrence and Blanche Hunter Shaw. Mr. Shaw was a metallurgical engineer at Battelle Memorial Institute. In 1958, he moved from Columbus, Ohio, to Youngstown, where he was employed at Youngstown Sheet and Tube until 1977. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church in Youngstown, where he served as deacon and elder and was in the choir. Mr. Shaw was a member of the American Society for Metals and American Institute of Mining Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers. On April 14, 1951, he married Marian Bopp, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Robert S. Shaw of Miami, Fla., Richard L. Shaw of Boardman, John W. Shaw of Phoenix, Ariz., and Philip A. Shaw of Bethel Park; two daughters, Nancy L. Wise of Simi Valley, Calif., and Phyllis A. Brant of Hermitage; four grandchildren; and a brother, Gaylord Shaw of Washington.

Anna Y. Sherockman, 87, of Robinson Township, formerly of Burgettstown, died Tuesday, January 2, 2001, in Atrium Center, Robinson Township. She was born March 28, 1913, in Ohio, a daughter of Paul and Anna Horota Yesko. Mrs. Sherockman was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Burgettstown and Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Robinson Township. Surviving are a sister, Betty Begani of McKees Rocks; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are her husband, Andrew Sherockman; three brothers, Albert, Michael and Paul Yesko; and four sisters, Marie, Susan and Margaret Yesko and Helen Manning.

Julia Sommer, 82, of Glenview, Ill., died at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, December 23, 2000, in the extended care facility of Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines, Ill. She was born March 15, 1918, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Andrew and Mary Gulyban. Mrs. Sommer attended Canonsburg schools and graduated from Canonsburg High School in 1938. She was Catholic. Surviving are her husband, Bernard Sommer; a son, Brian Sommer of Wheeling, Ill.; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Cody Sommer; a sister, Theresa Taylor of Canonsburg; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sisters, Mary Dusza and Helen Kartik; and two brothers, Louis and Andrew Gulyban. At the request of the deceased, there was no visitation.

Shirley Connors Aiken, 71, of Pensacola, Fla., died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, in a Florida hospital. She was born in Washington and had resided in Pensacola for many years. Mrs. Aiken was retired from local retail sales. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Reetz; a son, Robin Aiken; and two grandchildren, Alexandria Reetz and Britney Aiken. Emery C. Garee, 94, of Lancaster, formerly of York, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2001, in The Glen at Willow Valley, Lancaster. He was born June 14, 1906, in Fayette County, a son of Clyde L. and May Brewer Garee. Mr. Garee was salesman for 30 years with Nabisco Brands, Harrisburg, where he retired. He attended Fairmont (W.Va.) State College. Mr. Garee was a former member of Calvary United Presbyterian Church, where he was ordained as an elder in 1955. He was a 54-year member of York Lodge 266 F&AM, a member of York Forest 30, Tall Cedars of Lebanon and Harrisburg Consistory. Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Pearle M. Powell Garee; two sons, Ronald E. Garee of Red Lion and Donovan P. Garee of Lancaster; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. There will be no viewing. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 6, in Mt. Rose Cemetery, with the Rev. Ryan Banman officiating. Kathryn L. "Babe" Jorgenson, 68, of Washington, died Thursday, January 4, 2001, in Washington Hospital, following a four-year illness. She was born April 30, 1932, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Domineck and Mary Lamantia Fenimore. Mrs. Jorgenson was a retired payroll clerk, having worked for Jessop Steel Corp. for more than 32 years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she had taught RISA classes. Mrs. Jorgenson had founded and chaired the Children's Hospital Fund Drive for many years at Jessop Steel Co. She was a graduate of Canonsburg High School. On July 26, 1969, she married Bayard Kempton "Roger" Jorgenson, who died June 23, 1997. Surviving are a son, Brian P. Jorgenson of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers, Pete Fenimore of Washington and Leonard Fenimore of Johnstown; and two sisters, Antoinette "Toni" DaPra of Canonsburg and Cynthia Zelinsky of Eighty Four. Deceased is a sister, Dolly DiDominico.

Rex E. McNary
U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II
Rex E. McNary, 77, of Crafton, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, in Greenery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg. He was born October 10, 1923, in Pittsburgh, a son of Elmer and Harriet Stevens McNary. Mr. McNary was a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes as a machine gunner and radio operator. He was awarded the European-African Middle Eastern Ribbon with four bronze stars, Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters and World War II Victory Medal. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Conrail as a radio repairman. Mr. McNary was Methodist. He was married to Genevieve A. Barclay, who died May 28, 1978. He later married Ruth C. Nicklas, who died September 20, 1993. Mr. McNary was the last of his immediate family. Surviving are a niece, Linda Babeji of Lawrence; and a nephew, Dr. Edwin L. Hartman of Smithfield, N.C. James M. Marshall
Retired bank manager of Mellon Bank
James M. Marshall, 82, of Washington, formerly of Laughlintown, died Thursday, January 4, 2001, in his home. He was born April 28, 1918, in Wilkinsburg, a son of William G. and Belle McClymonds Marshall. Mr. Marshall graduated from Washington & Jefferson College, Wharton Graduate School of Finance and Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. He retired from Mellon Bank in 1983, after 34 years of service, as manager of several offices including Washington, and was vice president of the personal banking department at the principal office. During his banking career, he served as assistant bank examiner with the Comptroller of the Currency and was vice president of the Regional Industrial Development Corp. during is reorganization in 1974. Mr. Marshall served in the U.S. Navy during World War II at Guadalcanal and earned three battle stars in the Pacific. As a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Mayor of Washington, he helped initiate a Charter Study Plan for the city in 1968. He served as chairman of Catawba District of Allegheny Trails Council of the Boy Scouts and was the recipient of the Order of Beaver from Boy Scouts of America for outstanding service. Mr. Marshall was a member of Pennsylvania Free Farm Association, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and Wilkinsburg Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mildred Buell; two daughters, Joan Harris of Columbia, Tenn., and Marjorie J. Marshall of Laguna Beach, Fla.; a son, William G. Marshall of Lake Zurich, Ill.; a granddaughter, Marianne Marshall; and a sister, Mary Hinkens of Claremont, N.H. Deceased is a brother, William G. Marshall Jr.

Wallace E. McVay
Retired machine operator from Prosperity
Wallace E. "Bud" McVay, 70, of Prosperity, died Thursday, January 4, 2001, in his home, following a brief illness. He was born November 10, 1930, in Prosperity, a son of Robert Bell Sr. and Gladys Miller McVay. Mr. McVay retired in 1992, having been a machine operator at Union Camp, Eighty Four, now International Paper Co. He was a member of Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church, Annawanna Hunting and Fishing Club, Polish Club, Pulaski Club and Waynesburg Moose. Mr. McVay attended Trinity High School. He enjoyed all sports, having played at Dunn Station in Ten Mile Valley League. On April 22, 1975, he married Alice Drezewski, who survives. Surviving are a son, David McVay of Prosperity; a stepson, Chester Drezewski of Washington; a daughter, Janice Ruffalo of Prosperity; two stepdaughters, Karen Pelkey and Barbara Payne, both of Washington; two sisters, Mona Lou Dunn of Prosperity and LeVada Jo Dixon of State College; eight grandchildren, Robert and Kami Ruffalo, Kimberly and Brian Pelkey, Anthony and Alyson Drezewski and Robert and Jason Falvo; and three great-grandchildren. Deceased are a sister, Edith Chapman; and a brother, Robert Bell McVay Jr.

Glenn W. Morris, 91, of Holbrook R.D.1, died at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2001, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, after being in failing health the past three years. He was born October 11, 1909, in Jackson Township, a son of John M. and Lorena Morris Morris. Mr. Morris had resided in Jackson Township all of his life, where he formerly served as a justice of the peace. He was Protestant. Mr. Morris was a former employee of Sharon Steel and National Tube Co., and for most of his working life was owner/operator of Morris Electrical and General Contracting prior to his retirement in 1974. He was a graduate of Coyne Electrician School in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Morris served in the U.S. Army as a private with Company C, 36th Signal Battalion during World War II and was a member of Waynesburg Disabled American Veterans Post 123. On July 10, 1930, he married Helen Myrtle Reese, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Norma Lee Hunter of Rogersville, with whom he made his home the past three years; a brother, John Everett Morris of Waynesburg; three grandchildren, Vickie Wilson and Randy and David Clark; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Deceased are a son, Gary Lynn Morris; two brothers, Carl, who died in infancy, and Dewey Morris; six sisters, Orpha Hunt, Iona Mehm, Lulu Johnson, Neva Orndoff and two sisters who died in infancy.

Mary E. Rodebaugh, 92, of Washington, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, in Kade's Nursing Home, Washington, following a five-year illness. She was born in Latrobe on February 18, 1908, a daughter of Joseph and Ruth Harrington Martin. Mrs. Rodebaugh was a homemaker and had formerly managed the Gulf station on North Main Street in Washington for 11 years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, and the Christian Mothers of the church. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 175, Washington. Mrs. Rodebaugh was an avid bowler and attended Latrobe High School. She was formerly married to Charles Onesko Sr., who died in 1950. On April 27, 1968, she married her second husband, Edward G. Rodebaugh Sr., who survives. Also surviving are a stepson, Edward G. Rodebaugh Jr. of Charleroi; two stepdaughters, Diane Gombas of Monessen and Elaine DeMoss of Rostraver Township; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sons, John E. Onesko and Charles Onesko Jr.; and six brothers, Art, Clarence, James, William, John and Joseph Martin; and two sisters, Ruth Baum and Arlene Howard.

Mary E. Hoberek Roman, 77, of Imperial, died Thursday, January 4, 2001, in Canonsburg General Hospital. She was born June 2, 1923, in Follansbee, W.Va., a daughter of Nathaniel and Mary Dunn Hoberek. Mrs. Roman was a retired nurse from John J. Kane Hospital and Drew Nursing Home, both in the Bridgeville area. She also was a member of the St. Columbkille Roman Catholic Church of Imperial. Surviving are her husband, John Roman; a son, John Roman of Imperial; two daughters, Carol Roman of Union City and Mary Elizabeth Clingenpeel of Imperial; five brothers, John Hoberek of Aliquippa, Bill Hoberek of McDonald, Bob Hoberek of Michigan, Harry Hoberek of Ohio and David Hoberek of Joffre; five sisters, Viola Anderson of Ohio, Edna Kline of Follansbee, W.Va., Margaret Reed of Hookstown, Stella Lyons of Burgettstown and Jean Hoberek of Canonsburg; four grandchildren, Doreen, Jerry, Marybeth and David; and six great-grandchildren. Three brothers are deceased.

Louis V. Dire, 82, of Hickory, died Thursday, January 4, 2001, at his home. He was born October 24, 1918, in Italy, a son of Angelo and Angela Berlingieri Dire. Mr. Dire was a retired laborer from McGraw-Edison and the former owner of Ole Hickory Inn. He was also a member of St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church in McDonald. His wife, Jean Monaco Dire, died in 1995. Surviving are his children, Tony Dire of Washington, Angeline Morrison of Hickory, Richard Dire of Avella and Mary LeFebvre of Midway; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Mike Dire of Washington; four sisters, Mary Warrick of Washington, Joanne Ross of Washington, Josephine Lugaila of Hickory and Erma Baroni of Hickory; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David A. Donnan

David A. Donnan, 84, of McMurray, died Thursday, January 4, 2001, in Canonsburg General Hospital. He was born September 5, 1916, in Washington, a son of Alexander and Elizabeth Acheson Donnan. Mr. Donnan served as a lieutenant in World War II on a B-24 as navigator with the 308th Bomb Group, CBI Theater, flying many missions over the Himalayas. He was a retired executive vice president of A.E. Masten & Co. in Pittsburgh and served 36 years on the board of Washington Federal Savings Bank, the final nine years as chairman. Mr. Donnan served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Washington and as a deacon and member of Thomas Presbyterian Church in Eighty Four. His favorite hobby was reading murder mysteries. In 1938, he married Helen Murphy of Washington, who died in July 2000. Surviving are a daughter, Marion Mahoney of Potomac, Md.; a son, Robert Donnan of McMurray; three grandchildren, Christopher and Jonathan Mahoney and Amanda Donnan; a brother, Alvan Donnan of Hockessin, Del.; and a sister, Elizabeth Smith of Hershey. Peter P. Greyhosky

Peter P. "Pete Grey" Greyhosky, 86, of Cokeburg, died Thursday, January 4, 2001, in Washington Hospital. He was born May 30, 1914, in Cecil, a son of Charles and Sophia Kessel Greyhosky. After 40 years of service, Mr. Greyhosky retired as foreman from Bethlehem Mines, Mine 60 in Somerset Township. He was well-known in the musical field, having more than 60 years as an accordionist, performer and instructor. He played on radio stations in western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia. He also appeared on Pittsburgh television stations and recorded with Les Faulk's Slovenian Polka Band. In the Washington area, Mr. Greyhosky played with Tommy Mossburg Country Band, The Cimino Brothers Combo, Perry Vincent Group and Paul Hickson Combo. In the Charleroi area, he played with Jim Vincent Combo, Tiny Fries Group, Thirsty Five Orchestra, Cleveland Airs, Joe LaPresti and Flash Gordon Group. In Pittsburgh, he played at the Hilton and William Penn hotels, Christopher's and various nightclubs. Mr. Greyhosky was Catholic and a member of Eagles 1809 and REACT, both of Bentleyville. He was an officer in Musical Local 592 and represented them as a delegate to Penn-Del-Mar conventions. He was a former first vice president of Tri-County Federation of Musicians. On June 30, 1945, in Ellsworth, he married Theresa M. Kuhar, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Deb Puskarich of Scenery Hill; three brothers, Clark Greyhosky of El Paso, Texas, Albert Greyhosky of Aurora, Colo., and August Greyhosky of Carlisle; two grandsons, Ryan and Alan Puskarich; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, Charles Greyhosky; a sister, Mary Kozleuchar; and two infant brothers.

John A. Holsey

John A. Holsey, 80, of Strabane, died at 11:40 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2001, in Canonsburg General Hospital. He was born February 4, 1920, in Pittsburgh, a son of Walter and Nellie Holsey. Mr. Holsey was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg, and KSKJ St. Jerome's Lodge 153 of Strabane. Before retirement, he was a caster at Canonsburg Pottery for more than 18 years. On September 25, 1954, he married June Frantz, who survives. Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph Holsey of Peters Township and Edward Kubacki of Canonsburg; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, Stanley Holsey; and two sisters, Ann Senay and Genevieve Conway.

Joann Josephine Shulek Marolt, 53, of Smithfield R.D.2, died Friday, January 5, 2001, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. She was born April 14, 1947, in New Geneva, a daughter of Agnes Demaske Shulek of Woodside and the late John Shulek. Mrs. Marolt was a 1965 graduate of Albert Gallatin High School. Surviving are her husband of 35 years, Frank Marolt Jr.; a son, Frank D. Marolt of Smithfield; a daughter, Shelley J. Hall of Martinsville, W.Va.; two sisters, Mary Shulek of Woodside and Betty Fike of California state; and four brothers, John Shulek of the state of California, Robert "Smiley" and James Shulek, both of Woodside, and Richard Shulek of Masontown.

Andy Suwak, 83, of Hickory, died Thursday, January 4, 2001, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born January 29, 1917, in Washington, a son of Michael and Mary Kernasevics Suwak. Prior to retirement, Mr. Suwak owned and was a driver for Andy Suwak Trucking Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 25th Bombardier Squadron. Mr. Suwak was a member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Bulger. Surviving are his wife, Robert Rometti Suwak, a daughter, Pamela Marie Perenic of Atlanta, Ga.; three brothers, John Suwak of Florida and Nick and Chuck Suwak, both of Washington; and a sister, Helen Artemko of Washington. Deceased are his first wife, Mary Ann Machak; two brothers, Mike and Pete Suwak; and a sister, Mary Suwak.
