ELINOR D. HAMPTON
Elinor Dunbar Hampton, 86, of Limestone Ridge Road, Elliottsburg, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998 in Loudon Hospital Center, Leesburg, Va.
She was born in New Bloomfield to the late Phillip S. and Blanche V. (Beck) Dunbar.
She was a doll collector and a volunteer worker.
She had attended a business school in Pittsburgh and later taught business courses at the former New Bloomfield High School, where she had been a center for the girls' basketball team and winner of an award for the best essay.
She traveled widely and was an avid reader and bridge player. Despite failing eyesight, she continued to read large-print books which were later given to New Bloomfield Public Library. She enjoyed both writing and receiving letters.
She was a member of Centre Presbyterian Church, Loysville RR 1. She was the widow of Dr. Louis Jennings Hampton, who she married in 1931. She lived in New Bloomfield while he served as an Army doctor in the Pacific during World War II. They later resided in Stratford, Conn., and in Penn Valley and Hanover.
Surviving are a son, Louis J. Jr. of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Elinor D. Melvin of Aptos, Calif., and Phyllis H. Sloyan of Paeonian Springs, Va.; a sister, Blanche Dunbar Orr of Zelienople; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Feb. 6 in Bloomfield Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Osborne officiating. Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, handled arrangements.

ELIZABETH G. HALL
Elizabeth G. Hall, 93, formerly of Duncannon, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998 in Chapel Pointe, Carlisle.
She was born Sept. 13, 1904 in Harrisburg to the late Harry F. and Ethel J. (Kerchner) Houghton.
She was a member of Dellville United Methodist Church, its adult Sunday school class and United Methodist Women, the Polyclinic Hospital Auxiliary, Harrisburg, Duncannon Golden Age Club, Duncannon Senior Citizens, the Women's Welsh Club, Harrisburg, and Blue Mountain Division 137, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Auxiliary.
She was the widow of Carl W. Hall. Surviving are a daughter, Betty Jean Brenize of Snow Shoe; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Robert Stump officiating.
Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.

ERMA V. HOLMES
Erma V. Holmes, 79, formerly of Millerstown, Mifflintown and Stonebridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998 in Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.
She was born Jan. 19, 1919 in Juniata County to the late Nevin and Minnie Gill.
She was the widow of Raymond L. "Pete" Holmes.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald L. of Blain and Robert L. of Liverpool; a daughter, Jean Stelter of Harrisburg; six grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard N. Holmes, and two infant sons.
Services, with the Rev. Kenneth Forbes officiating, were held at the convenience of the family. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.
Myers Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stonebridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, 102 Chandra Drive, Duncannon 17020.

GERTRUDE H. HASTINGS
Gertrude Harvey Hastings, 93, of Blain died Saturday, May 9, 1998 in Homeland Center, Harrisburg.
She was past president of the College Club of Harrisburg, Garden Club of Harrisburg and Pennsylvania State Federation of Garden Clubs, and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
She was the widow of W. Ray Hastings.
Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Leisure of Harrisburg and Gertrude Whitmoyer of Malvern; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the family's convenience.
Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, handled arrangements.

HERBERT H. HORNBERGER
Herbert Henry "Herb" Hornberger, 78, of Richfield HCR 72 died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998 in Sunbury Community Hospital.
He was born Dec. 1, 1919 at Richfield RR 1 to the late Henry S. and Jennie (Graybill) Hornberger.
He was owner-operator of Hornberger's Garage; an employee of Flying Eagle Security Service Co. at Apex Homes, Middleburg; and formerly had been employed by Regester Chevrolet Company, Middletown Air Depot and BKW Bus Lines; and a member of Richfield United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Virginia Aucker Hornberger; one son, Barry H. of Selinsgrove; two daughters, Vicki L. Nornhold of Richfield RR 1 and Brenda S. Hassinger of Port Trevorton; one brother, Merrill Hornberger of Selinsgrove; three sisters, Ferne Snyder and Helen "Marie" House, both of Richfield RR 1, and Faye Smith of Lewisburg; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John Hornberger; three sisters, Irma Hart, Iva Brown and Carrie "Violet" Carvell; one half-brother, Dewey Hornberger; and one half-sister, Ella Renninger.
Services were held Aug. 15 in his church with the Rev. Dr. Almon D. Baird officiating. Burial was in Richfield Union Cemetery. Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, handled arrangements.

JOHN D. HEBEL
John D. Hebel, 83, of Liverpool RR 2 died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998 at home.
He retired from Bell Telephone Co.; was an Army veteran of World War II; a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University; and member of Liverpool United Methodist Church and its board, Liverpool Ambulance League, Bell Telephone Pioneers and the Republican National Party.
He was the widower of Sarah Elswiler Hebel.
Surviving are a son, George of Liverpool RR 2; a sister, Shirley Gartley of Milton; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 15 in his church. Burial was in Hunter's Valley Cemetery.
Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, handled arrangements.

JULIA F. HORTING
Julia F. Horting, 94, of N. Sixth Street, Newport, died Saturday, May 16, 1998 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.
She was born Sept. 30, 1903 in Oliver Twp. to the late Robert and Rebecca (Meminger) Toomey.
She was a former correspondent from Howe Twp. for the Newport News-Sun, beginning in 1939 when George Fry was editor of the paper; enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting; and was a member of Red Hill Church of God, Newport, and its Sunday school, in which she had held office since 1918, a state record; and a member of Newport Senior Citizen Center and Newport Garden Club.
She was the widow of John F. Horting.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Services were held May 19 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Revs. Harry Cole and William Baney officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

JOHN H. HECKARD SR.
John H. Heckard Sr., 80, of Marysville died Monday, June 22, 1998 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
He was a disabled Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Alice; two sons, Donald of Camp Hill and John Jr. of Enola; seven daughters, Violet Wills of Mechanicsburg, Mary Rohrbach of Carlisle, Alice Cook and Joan Henry, both of Duncannon, and Diane Beane, Linda Metz and Cindy Stansfield, all of Marysville; one brother, James Heckard of Harrisburg; 24 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, handled arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg 17043.
