MARGARET A. MYERS
Margaret A. Myers, 81, of Mt. Pleasant Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002 in Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born Jan. 22, 1921 in Shippensburg to the late W. Mont and Martha Ellen (Keefer) Witter.

She was retired from Pet-Ritz, Chambersburg; a 1939 graduate of Shippensburg High School; a member of First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg, where she was a member of the Alda Bower Sunday School Class, Ladies Auxiliary of Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223, Shippensburg, and Ladies Auxiliary of Durff-Kuhn VFW Post 6168, Shippensburg; member and past president of the Chambersburg Women’s Club; volunteered at several nursing homes in the Franklin County area; and enjoyed flowers, traveling, sewing, crocheting and crafts.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Leslie H. Myers; a daughter, Beverly A. Rhine of Chambersburg; a son, Rodney L. of Duncannon; three sisters, Grace Lehman of Newville, Helen Watson of Shippensburg and Anna Mary Roll of Chambersburg; three brothers, Donald Witter and John “Jack” Witter, both of Shippensburg, and David Witter of Minot, N.D.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Robin Louise Myers and Judith Replogle; a son, Leslie H. Jr.; and three brothers, Lester, William and James Witter.

Services were held July 19 in Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, with the Rev. Ray L. Kauffman officiating. Burial was in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

CATHERINE B. SHUMAKER
Catherine B. Shumaker, 77, formerly of Columbia, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. She also had been a patient in Stonebridge Health & Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon.

She was born April 20, 1925 in Columbia to the late George and Mary (Beck) Foreman.

She was a former employee of Reich Poultry, Columbia; a Catholic; formerly active in local Boy Scout troops in Columbia and was the first woman to serve on the regional council of the Boy Scouts of American in Lancaster County.

She was the widow of Benjamin R. Shumaker, who died in 1994.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara A. Carney of Liverpool; a son, Benjamin R. II of Marietta; two grandchildren, Michael J. Shumaker of San Diego, Calif., and Dawn Shumaker of Rheems; and a great-granddaughter, Rachael Lynn Shumaker.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Staub and Esther Marshall.

Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, handled arrangements.

WILLIAM G. BORNMAN
William G. Bornman, 72, of Duncannon died Thursday, July 11, 2002.

He was born March 26, 1930 in Duncannon to the late Daniel R. and Violet (Roberts) Bornman.

He was retired as a rural mail carrier at Millerstown; an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict; a member of Rural Letter Carriers Association, Duncannon High School Alumni Association, Disabled American Veterans, Millerstown Loyal Order of Moose 925; and a life member of VFW Post 255 and American Legion Post 340.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Radabaugh Bornman; two sons, Glenn E. of Duncannon and Terry L. of Summerdale; a daughter, Kay B. Yeagley of Harrisburg; two brothers, Daniel G. and James Sr., both of Duncannon; two sisters, Alice Deppen of Duncannon and Nancy Miller of Middletown; and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Kyle and Nicole.

Services were held July 15 in Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. B. Michael Brossman officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Duncannon.

THOMAS F. FLUKE
Thomas F. Fluke, 54, of N. Pine Street, Liverpool, died Friday, July 12, 2002 at home.

He was born May 12, 1948 in Lewistown to Charles Donald Sr., who died Dec. 22, 1990, and Ruby J. (Aumiller) Fluke, who died Feb. 3, 1987.

He had been a substitute teacher with the Mifflin County School District and a tax assessor at the Mifflin County Courthouse; a 1966 graduate of Kishacoquillas High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Mansfield State University and master’s degree from Penn State University; and a member of Milroy Presbyterian Church and the Republican party.

Surviving is a brother, Randy of Burnham.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles D., who died Sept. 23, 1990.

Services were held July 16 in Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Robert L. Zorn officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.

HELEN K. HOKE
Helen K. Hoke, 93, died Monday, July 15, 2002 at Messiah Retirement Village, Mechanicsburg, where she had lived for 14 years.

She was born Oct. 10, 1908 in Elizabethville to the late Aaron David and Katie (Bowman) Hoke.

She retired from the Newport schools and also taught in Lewistown and Harrisburg; a graduate of Newport High School and a graduate in elementary education from Indiana State University; and a member of the United Methodist Church in Newport.

Surviving are a niece, Donna Dunkelberger of Pittsburgh; and three nephews, Wilmer B. Hoke Jr. of Selinsgrove, Gordon R. Hoke of Newport and Charles Bosserman of Orlando, Fla.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilmer B. Sr., Edward C. and Walter Hoke; and a sister, Elsie H. Bosserman.

A graveside service was held in Newport Cemetery.

Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, handled arrangements.

LEE H. CHUBB
Lee H. “Peanut” Chubb, 84, of Greenwood Street, Millerstown, died Friday, July 19, 2002 at home.

He was born Oct. 9, 1917 at Millerstown RR 2 to the late William and Justina (Hockenbroch) Chubb.

He was employed by the former Pennsylvania Railroad and Snap-On Tools and retired from TRW, Harrisburg, after 28 years of employment as a supervisor of machinists; educated at the former Watts Twp. Grammar schoolhouse; an Army veteran of World War II; a member of Millerstown United Methodist Church where he sang bass in the church choir; a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Millerstown; a member of Perry County Disabled American Veterans; president for many years of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Cemetery Association, Millerstown RR 2; and enjoyed gardening.

He was the widower of Ruth Boyd Chubb, who died in April of 1987.

Surviving are his wife of 13 years, Eleanor F. (Benner) Fritz Chubb; a son, Robert G. of Thompsontown RR 1; a daughter, Patricia L. Shenk of Millerstown RR 2; three stepchildren, G. Gary Fritz of Pleasant Hall, Sandra L. Comp of New Bloomfield RR 2 and Susan R. Freeman of Newport; four sisters, Evelyn Spriggle of Richfield, Luella Nace of New Bloomfield, June Long of Millerstown and Carletta Hood of Richfield RR 1; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mildred Fogle, Hulda Broberg, Anna Wagner and Fern Hibbs.

Services were held July 23 in his church with pastors Daniel H. Jordan and Delores O. Strawser officiating. Burial, with military honors by Liverpool American Legion Post 364, was in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.

Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, handled arrangements.

RICHARD T. SMITH JR.
Richard T. Smith Jr., 18, of Shermans Dale died Saturday, July 13, 2002 in Lower Paxton Twp., Dauphin County, as the result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

He was born Dec. 1, 1983 in Harrisburg.

He was an employee of Kelly Systems, Inc. of Harrisburg, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding dirt bikes.

Surviving are his parents, Richard T. and Sharon Buffington Smith of Shermans Dale; two sisters, Heidi L. Kelley of Elliottsburg and Dawn M. Smith at home; his maternal grandmother, Helen M. Buffington of Shermans Dale; maternal grandfather, Henry Buffington Jr. of Allentown; and paternal grandmother, Lillian Rose Smith of Harrisburg.

Services were held July 19 in Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Linglestown. Burial was in Wenrich’s Cemetery, Linglestown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Retreat Center, RR 1, Box 13A, East Waterford 17021.

ELIZABETH H. TOOMEY
Elizabeth H. Toomey, 86, of the Mennonite Home, Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, and formerly of Oak Leaf Manor North, Landisville, died Thursday, July 18, 2002 at the home.

She was born in Washington County to the late Dr. Edmund P. and Norma E. (Crum) Heath.

Before moving to Lancaster County five years ago, she resided in Wila and New Bloomfield for 57 years. She was a bookkeeper for Shiffer Brothers Appliances of Newport until her retirement in 1973, and previously worked for the Carnegie Illinois Steel Company of Pittsburgh.

She was a member of New Bloomfield United Methodist Church; a graduate of Allegheny College, Meadville; and an avid reader.

She traveled extensively with her late husband throughout the United States and Europe. She enjoyed swimming and sports and was a Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. She also was active in politics during her husband’s political career.

She was the widow of state Rep. T. Luke Toomey, who died in August of 1997.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Edith T. Mumper of Mount Joy; a niece, Debra L. Rubright of Maytown; and two grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Jessie Heath.

A graveside service was held July 22 in Newport Cemetery with the Rev. Rosamond B. Mason officiating.

Sheetz Funeral Home, Mount Joy, handled arrangements.

SARAH C. BARDELL
Sarah Cathryn Bardell, 94, of W. Green Street, Shiremanstown, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002 at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, Lewiston, N.Y.

She was born Jan. 15, 1908 in Juniata County to the late Hugh and Florence (Whistler) Page.

She was a member of the Philadelphia Church of God, Harrisburg.

She was the widow of Clarence Leroy Bardell.

Surviving are three sons, Clarence L. Jr. of Davenport, Fla., Donald E. of Newport News, Va., and Charles N. of Shiremanstown; a sister, Anna Minetta Bell of Granville; a brother, Charles E. Page of Honey Grove; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 1 in Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with pastor M. Wilson Magruder officiating. Burial was in Goodwill Cemetery, McAlisterville RR 1.

LUELLA G. NACE
Luella Grace Nace, 80, formerly of Sunbury Street, Millerstown, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.

She was born at Millerstown RR 2, Juniata County, to the late William and Justina (Troutman) Chubb.

She and her husband owned and operated Glenn Nace Plumbing and Heating Co., Millerstown, from 1943 to 1983, and owned and operated Liverpool Hardware Store from 1952 to 1995; a member of Millerstown United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, New Bloomfield, and the Civic Club of Millerstown; an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed entertaining and socializing with friends, gardening and bookkeeping for the family business.

She was the widow of Glenn David Nace, who died March 20, 1983.

Surviving are three sons, Lee E. of Millerstown, Dale G. of Millerstown RR 2 and Gary D. of Liverpool RR 1; a daughter, Gail M. Pennay of Harrisburg; three sisters, Evelyn Spriggle of Richfield, June Long of Millerstown and Carletta Hood of Richfield RR 1; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Lee “Peanut” Chubb, who died July 18, 2002; and four sisters, Mildred Fogel, Hulda Broberg, Anna Wagner and Fern Hibbs.

Services were held Sept. 29 in her church with the Rev. Daniel H. Jordan officiating and the pastor Delores Strawser assisting. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.

MATTHEW GARRETT BARRICK
Matthew Garrett Barrick, infant son of Edward and Catherine Slade Barrick died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 in White County Hospital, Searcy, Ark.

In addition to his parents, surviving are paternal grandparents, David and Doris Barrick of Duncannon; maternal grandparents, Darrell and Jean Slade of Mesa, Ariz.; and great-grandparents, Emory and Carrie Clugston of Duncannon.

A graveside service was held Sept. 29 in Duncannon.

Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.

MARY A. NULL
Mary Antoinette Null, 82, of Perdix died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 at the home of her son in Marysville.

She was the daughter of Seranouch Zakarian of Lyon, France and the late Sarkes Zakarian.

She was a retired assistant supervisor of housekeeping from Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

In addition to her mother, surviving are two sons, Neil H. Beets of Marysville and John R. Null of Harrisburg; two daughters, Juanita B. Jackson of Barbourville, Ky., and Donna M. Hughes of Carlisle; two brothers, Verage Zakarian and Raffi Zakarian, and a sister, Victoria Ohanian, all of Lyon, France; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Remy Zakarian.

Services were held Sept. 30 in Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville. Burial was in Perry Heights Cemetery, Marysville.
