BROOKS B. REISINGER
Brooks B. Reisinger, 78, of Juniata Parkway East, Newport, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003 at home.

He was born March 11, 1924 in Newport to the late William L. Sr. and Bertha (Stambaugh) Reisinger.

He was retired from Penn National Insurance; a Marine sergeant in World War II, serving on a TBF Avenger torpedo bomber as a tailgunner in a squadron called the “Flying Dead Heads”; former Howe Twp. supervisor; Perry County Republican Committeeman; a member of Red Hill Church of God, Newport, Jaffa Temple, Altoona, Newport Lodge 381, F&AM, Newport Royal Arch Chapter 238, where he was a past high priest, Harrisburg Consistory, Perry Juniata Shrine Club, Newport American Legion Post 177, where he was a past commander, Newport VFW Post 34 and Loyal Order of Moose, 925, Millerstown; and enjoyed gardening, hunting and boating.

Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Thebes Reisinger; two sons, Kenneth of Shermans Dale and Robert of Newport; three daughters, Carol J. Thorn of Erie, Linda Belmont of New Bloomfield and Leslie Swigart of Liverpool; two stepdaughters, Kena Strickland-Papp of Fleetwood and Venetia Bitting of Newport; two brothers, William Jr. and Philip A., both of Newport; two sisters, Pauline Schell of New Cumberland and Janet Aldinger of Newport; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a stepson, Duane Strickland; a brother, Edgar Kay; and two sisters, Lois Gregory and Carrie Partridge.

Services were held Feb. 16 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport. Burial, with military honors by New Bloomfield VFW Post 7463, was in Bloomfield Cemetery.

ISABEL A. VILK
Isabel A. Vilk, 84, of Lower Paxton Twp. died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 in Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.

She was born Oct. 19, 1918 in New Salem to the late Joseph and Mary (Volpe) Zenoby.

She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church and Hershey Medical Center Stroke Support Group, and a 1937 graduate of Uniontown High School.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Andrew J. Vilk; two daughters, Mary Ann Sterner of Harrisburg and Angeline Hemphill of Maine; a son, Francis of Newport; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Zenoby.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 13 in her church.

Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Linglestown, handled arrangements.

SARAH E. CAPP
Sarah E. Capp, 91, formerly of Perry County and Dauphin, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003 in Claremont Nursing & Rehab Center, Carlisle.

She was born April 1, 1911 at Peter’s Mountain, Dauphin, to the late William B. and Annie S. (Niene) Kapp.

She was retired from Bell Telephone as a PBX operator and a domestic worker for several families, and was a member of New Bloomfield United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Charles N. Capp, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Capp, both of Fairfield, Calif.; and two sisters, Norma E. McElwee of Dauphin, and Violet B. Kocher of New Cumberland.

Services were held Feb. 14 in her church. Burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery.

Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, handled arrangements.

SARA E. MURPHY
Sara Elouise “Sis” Murphy, 72, of Amy Drive, Carlisle, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003 in Chapel Pointe, Carlisle.

She was born June 7, 1930 near Kistler to the late George A. and Sara E. (Rice) McMillen.

She was a homemaker; a 1948 graduate of Blain Union High School; a member of Milton Assembly of God, Milton, and attended Midway Pentecostal Church, Carlisle; and enjoyed gardening, crafts and being with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, William T. Murphy, whom she married June 19, 1949 in Winchester, Va.; a son, William D. of Shippensburg; two daughters, Connie E. Smith of Loysville and Julia A. Doebler of Winfield; a brother, Robert McMillen of Carlisle; two sisters, Beulah Brown of Burnt Cabins and L. Ann Rohm of Blain RR 1; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Mary McMillen, and three brothers, Cletus R., Henry Richard and Kenneth G. McMillen.

Services were held Feb. 13 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville. Burial was in Centre Presbyterian Cemetery, Loysville RR 1.

DIANE K. BOHN
Diane K. Bohn, 48, of Creekview Drive, Newport, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 6, 1954 in Harrisburg to Carrie Reapsome Kline of Newport and the late Boyd A. Kline.

She was retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue and a member of Bible Baptist Church, Newport.

In addition to her mother, surviving are her husband, Thomas E. Bohn III; a brother, James A. Kline of East Berlin; a sister, Jeanette K. Gresh of Pine Grove Mills; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held March 3 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with pastor David Bard officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

KENNETH S. LANDIS
Kenneth S. “Uncle Ken” Landis, 78, of Newport died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003 at home.

He was born July 27, 1924 in Juniata County to the late Samuel and Annie (Zellers) Landis.

He was the former owner of The Curve Restaurant, New Bloomfield; a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Antietam; and a member of Perry Alliance Church, Shermans Dale, Mifflintown VFW, Mifflintown American Legion, Newport Owls Club and Thompsontown AmVets.

He was the widower of Sandra J. Davis Landis, who died Feb. 19, 1985.

Surviving are two daughters, Connie Rhoads of Newport and Molly J. Landis of Meda Nipple Nursing Home, Maze; a sister, Mildred Achenbach of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Terry L. Sr.; five brothers, Melvin, Gerald, Chester, Percy and Ray; and two sisters, Ethel and Hazel.

Services were held Feb. 28 in Guss Funeral Home, Mifflintown, with pastor Leroy Achenbach officiating. Burial, with military honors by Juniata County Veterans Council, was in Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, 3315 Derry St., Harrisburg 17111.

LESTER L. STROUP
Lester Lee “Whitey” Stroup, 62, of Liverpool RR 2, Chapman Twp., Snyder County, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003 at Sunbury Community Hospital.

He was born March 3, 1940 at Richfield RR 1 to the late Charles Henry and Katie (Benner) Stroup.

He retired in October of 1990 after 25 years as a laborer with Norry Welding (now Shumaker Industries), Northumberland; educated at Middleburg Joint High School; a member of Church of Christ in Christian Union, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR 1; and enjoyed working mechanically on cars.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Shirley M. Sheriff Stroup; four sons, Darwin L. and Palmer E., both at home, and Dennis A. and Donald R., both of Liverpool RR 2; two daughters, Wanda J. Hile of Mt. Pleasant Mills RR 2 and Sharon K. Hile of Port Trevorton RR 2; a son-in-law, Lonnie E. Hile Sr. of Liverpool RR 1; three brothers, Samuel H. of Swengel, Robert R. of Mifflinburg RR 2 and Palmer R. of Middleburg RR 1; a sister, Mary J. Ulrich of Middleburg RR 1; and four grandsons, Matthew Lester Hile, Lonnie Eugene Hile Jr., Logan Lee Hile and Colten Allen Stroup.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald C.

Services were held March 3 in Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, with pastor Daryl M. Kuhns officiating. Burial was in Richfield Union Cemetery.

DOROTHY P. BOWERSOX
Dorothy Pauline “Dot” Bowersox, 75, of Liverpool RR 1, Susquehanna Twp., Juniata County, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

She was born May 5, 1927 at Granville, Mifflin County, to the late Irvin S. and Esther M. (Warner) Miller.

She assisted her husband in the family business, Paul L. Bowersox and Sons Trucking, Liverpool, and previously was employed as a nursing assistant by the former Nipple and Snyder Convalescent Homes, Liverpool, and did clerical work for RB Trucking and TB Lumber, Liverpool; a 1945 graduate of Lewistown High School; a member of Church of Christ in Christian Union, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR 1; and an accomplished quilter.

Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Paul L. Bowersox; five sons, Ronald P., Donald L., James L. and Timothy J., all of Liverpool RR 1, and Jonathan S. “Scott” of Duncannon; a brother, George Miller of Mifflin; two sisters, Thelma Bernice Cramer of Reeds Gap and Sarah Ritchey of Marion, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Yocum, Helen Nealman and Barbara Dalton.

Services were held Feb. 28 in her church with pastor Daryl M. Kuhns officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville RR 1.

Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, handled arrangements.

MARY C. SNYDER
Mary C. Reed Snyder, 84, of Marysville, formerly of Presbyterian Apartments, Harrisburg, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003 in Woodlands Center of Nursing.

She was a retired seamstress for the former Orweco Fox Dress Factory and had been a private seamstress and hairdresser while residing at Presbyterian Apartments; and was a member of the former Covenant Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg.

Surviving are a daughter and son, Shirley A. Shotzberger and Donald L. Snyder, both of Marysville; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two nieces and a nephew.

Services were held Feb. 26 in Neumyer Funeral Home. Burial was in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.

PAUL E. BOYER
Paul E. Boyer, 75, of Marysville died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was a retired electrician for I.B.E.W. 143; a Marine corporal in World War II; and a life member of VFW Post 882, Marysville.

Surviving are his wife, Giovina “Julie” Ciccocioppo Boyer; four sons, Daniel P. Sr., Frank E. and Dion L., all of Marysville, and Harry W. of Florida; five daughters, Anne Stine Lady of Enola, Joan L. Boyer and Nicholette T. Boyer, both of Marysville, Lena M. Bickle of Key Largo, Fla., and Lucia M. Boyer of California; a brother, Donald of Santa Clara, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 28 in Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Marysville. Burial was in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Marysville.

Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville, handled arrangements.

EDNA M. HAMPTON
Edna M. Hampton, 90, of Chandra Drive, Duncannon, formerly of Newport RR 2, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was born March 30, 1912 to the late Ruben and Opal (Bower) Clouser.

She retired from the former Newport Dress Factory after 40 years; was a member of New Bloomfield Ambulance Association and ILGWU Union; and enjoyed camping in Florida, crocheting and sewing.

She was the widow of John W. Hampton.

Surviving are a son, Ronald E. of Elliottsburg; three grandchildren, Carol S. Book of Blain, Bradley J. Hampton of Elliottsburg and Karen L. Sheaffer of Elliottsburg; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers; a sister; and a grandson, Steven Kimmich.

Services were held March 1, in Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, with the Rev. Anthony C. Hill officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Erly.

RAY M. BUFFINGTON
Ray Manning Buffington 83, formerly of Newport, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003 at his home in Brooksville, Fla., where he lived for the past 13 years.

He was the manager of installation for United Telephone; an Army veteran of World War II; a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Brooksville, Newport Lodge 381, F&AM, Royal Arch Chapter 238, Newport American Legion Post 177 and Newport VFW Post 34.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Buffington; two sons, Jere L. of Poway, Calif., and William R. of Newport; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 6, in Highland Presbyterian Church, Newport, with the Rev. Edward Baugh officiating. Private burial will be in Newport Cemetery.

Myers Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
