HAROLD E. SHULL
Harold E. Shull of Rosemead, Calif., formerly of Ickesburg, died Saturday, June 14, 2003 in Kaiser Hospital.

After graduating from Ickesburg High School, he served in the Marine Corps and also farmed near Ickesburg before the family moved to California. He was a checker for Foremost Dairy Co. until retirement.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lauver Shull, two daughters, Beverly and Brenda, a son, Steven, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, all of California; a sister, Janet (Shull) Fuller of Ickesburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Rose Hill Memorial Funeral Home in California.

JOHN L. HOLCOMBE
John L. “Babe” Holcombe, 89, of Liverpool RR 2 died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 in Harrisburg Hospital.

He was self-employed in manufacturing children’s toys of all kinds, especially children’s golf clubs, at his workplace in Wormleysburg, retiring in the early 1970s; a master decoy maker; and a member of Bible Baptist church, Liverpool RR 2.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Jessie Robertson Holcombe; a son, Louis John of Liverpool RR 1; and twin grandchildren, Corrine and Forrest.

A memorial service was held June 22 in his church with pastor Robert T. Gray Jr. officiating.

Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, handled arrangements.

DORIS E. MCCARTHY
Doris E. McCarthy, 70, of Loysville RR 2, and formerly of Liverpool and York, died Thursday, June 12, 2003 in ManorCare, Harrisburg.

She was born Aug. 31, 1932 at Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg, to the late Clarence E. Sr. and Dorothy T. (McSurdy) Stone.

She was retired from Szeles, a Harrisburg restoration company; a Navy veteran of the Korean War; and a lifetime member of American Legion Post 364, Liverpool.

She was the widow of Herbert G. McCarthy.

Surviving are three daughters, Dorothy V. Abramson of York, Dee L. Mimium of Loysville and Donna L. Bender of Crown, Pa.; two brothers, Clarence Stone Jr. of Enola and Ralph Stone of Cornwall, Conn.; a sister, Marty Gates of Elmira, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Carl T. Herrell Jr. and Patrick Michael McCarthy; and a daughter, Deborah L. McCarthy.

Burial was in Liverpool Union Cemetery, Liverpool.

Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, handled arrangements.

CHARLES S. MILLER
Charles S. Miller, 65, of Marysville, formerly of Williamstown, died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at home.

He retired in 1993 as a schoolteacher from East Pennsboro School District.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly A. Cutshall Miller; a daughter, Melinda J. Miller of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two brothers, Richard L. of Shermans Dale and Terry B. of Elizabethtown.

Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville, handled arrangements.

W. BURDOIN JONES
W. Burdoin Jones, 85, of Rye Twp., Marysville, died Sunday, June 15, 2003.

He was born Jan. 31, 1918 in Ensley, Ala., to the late Harwood M. and Ethel Salley (Burdoin) Jones, formerly of Medina, Ohio.

He retired as plant manager at Valk Manufacturing, New Kingstown, in 1982, and formerly was employed by Central Iron and Steel, Harrisburg Steel and Vega Industries; past president of the Amethyst Foundation, New Buffalo; and a 50-year member of Perry Lodge 458, F&AM, Marysville, and was a 33rd Degree Mason.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Nellie Potter Jones of Marysville; and a son, Nelson; two grandsons and six great-grandchildren, all of California.

Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville, handled arrangements.

RAYMOND A. SHIELDS
Raymond A. Shields, 88, of Newport RR 3 died Sunday, June 15, 2003 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.

He was born March 19, 1915 in Hampden Twp., Cumberland County, to the late Joseph and Edith (Nauss) Shields.

He was a retired farmer; former school bus driver for Newport School District; and a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, Newport, where he was a former elder, a lifetime member of Community Grange and Pennsylvania State Grange, and a charter member of Perry County Soil Conservation.

Surviving are his wife, Harriet E. Milligan Shields; a daughter, Betty L. Richard of Newport; a brother, Mervin of Mechanicsburg; three sisters, Anna Golden of Van Buren, Ohio, and Mildred Leinaweaver and Helen Forrey, both of Mechanicsburg; three grandchildren, Tracie Sapen of Harrisburg, Keith Richard of Landisburg and Alan Richard of Leola; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held June 20 in his church with the Rev. Edward Baugh officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

David Myers Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.

MYRHLLE E. SPAHR
Myrhlle E. Spahr, 87, of Spring Road, Middlesex Twp., Carlisle, died Monday, June 16, 2003 in Thornwald Nursing Home, Carlisle.

She was born Aug. 2, 1915 in Perry County to the late Jesse Batterman and Elizabeth Hill Baum.

She was associated with her husband in the real estate and insurance business in Carlisle Springs for many years, and before marriage had been employed by Carlisle Shoe Company on N. Bedford Street, Carlisle; a graduate of Cumberland Valley High School and Carlisle Commercial College, and attended Penn State University; a member of St. Matthias Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle Springs, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a representative for the Cra-dle Roll, Hamilton Library and Cumberland County Historical Society; and an avid antique postcard collector, corresponded with more than 25 people every month and enjoyed reading and gardening.

Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Melvin E. Spahr; a son, Donald E., and a daughter, Treva E. Myers, both of Carlisle; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Baum; four stepbrothers, Ross, Herman, William and Harry Baum; a sister, Olive Jones; and four stepsisters, Frances Long and Clara, Esther and Bessie Baum.

Services were held June 21 in her church with the Rev. Sarah A. Heintzelman officiating. Burial was in Letort Cemetery, Mid-dlesex Twp.

Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, handled arrangements.

HARRY G. BROWN
Harry G. Brown, 65, of Hidden Valley Road, Loysville, died Friday, June 27, 2003 in Harrisburg Hospital.

He was born Sept. 11, 1937 in Lancaster.

He was a printer and a retired employee of both Millprint, Inc. of Downingtown and Super Rite; a Navy veteran; a member of Blessed Hope Bible Church, Liverpool RR 2, and New Bloomfield Fire Company; and enjoyed flowers, gardening and especially raising irises.

Surviving are his wife, Anne Williamson Brown; three daughters, Kim Miller of Landisburg, Karen Stoltzfus of Kinzers and Wendy Miller of Florida; two sons, Scott of Loysville and Phillip of Gap; a brother, Walter of Las Cruzes, N.M.; two sisters, Vickie Neilon of Ocean Isles, N.C., and Jeanette Crothhamel of Downingtown; and seven grandchildren.

A graveside service was held July 1 in Mt. Joy Cemetery, followed by a memorial service in his church with the Rev. Donald Briggs officiating.

Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, handled arrangements.

FRANK A. RUETHER
Frank A. Ruether, 89, of Duncannon and Audubon, N.J., died Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at Hospice of Central Pennsylvania Carolyn Croxton Slane Residence, Harrisburg.

He was retired from Allied Signal Chemical Co., Frankford; and a member of Trimble Lodge, F&AM, Crescent Temple A.A.O.N., M.S. of Trenton, N.J., Excelsior Consistory, West Collingswood, N.J., and Camden County Shrine Club.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Anna McCall Ruether; two daughters, Lorraine M. Rudolph of Hamilton, N.J., and Mary Anne Van Arsdale of Duncannon; four granddaughters; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services were held June 30 in First United Methodist Church, Collingswood, N.J., with the Rev. Dr. William B. Wilson and the Rev. Richard W. Esher officiating. Burial was in Harleigh Cemetery, Camden, N.J.

Foster’s Funeral Home, Audubon, N.J., and Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.

DARLENE G. GONZALEZ
Darlene G. Gonzalez, 56, of Marysville died Friday, June 27, 2003 at the home of her son in Wheatfield Twp.

She was born Jan. 2, 1947 in Baltimore, Md., to the late John W. and Ida B. (Paul) Conrad.

She was a clerk at Hess Express, Marysville.

Surviving are two sons, Roger J. Boone of Duncannon and Roy Lee Boone of York; a sister, Ida Louise Fink of Baltimore; two brothers, John W. Conrad Jr. and Wayne Samuel Conrad, both of Marysville; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service was held July 1 in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.

KEITH L. WATSON
Keith L. Watson, 67, of New Bloomfield died Saturday, June 28, 2003 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born Sept. 2, 1935 in Newport to the late Clayton and Erma (Shatto) Watson.

He was retired from Penn National Turf Club and Pennsylvania Department of Revenue; a 1952 graduate of Perry Joint High School; served as a Perry County Democratic committeeman; a member of Shermans Dale United Methodist Church, New Bloomfield Firemen’s Club, New Bloomfield Fire Company, Pennsylvania Harness Horseman Racing Association and Newport Loyal Order of Moose 1562; and owned and loved horses.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Watson; two sons, Richard L. and Roger C., both of New Bloomfield; a stepson, William Baughman of Carlisle; four stepdaughters, Sandy Re of York Springs, Debra Deitch and Cheryl Frick, both of Carlisle, and Vicki Baughman of Enola; a brother, Dane L. of Camp Hill; five grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.

Services were held July 2 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Jeff Brewster officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery.

GLENN L. NESTER SR.
Glenn L. “Buck Nester, 67, of N. Union Street, Middletown, and formerly of Hummelstown, died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at Hershey Medical Center.

He was born July 25, 1935 in Hummelstown to the late Charles W. and Ruth (Page) Nester.

He was retired from Yorktown Cabinets, Mifflinburg, and also was employed by Lower Dauphin School District and Cig. Stroman, both of Hummelstown; and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching and collecting flea market items.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Lilla Carter Nester; two sons, Michael A. of Thorton, Colo., and Jeffrey S. of Middletown; a brother, Bruce of Hummelstown; two sisters, Gloria Koser of Mount Joy and Judy Herriman of California; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Jr. “Red.”

Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, handled arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

ROY R. WILSON
Roy R. Wilson, 78, of Elliottsburg RR 2, and formerly of Rutherford, died Thursday, June 26, 2003 in Select Specialty Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born Jan. 20, 1925 in Newville to the late Dennis and Alma (Charleston) Wilson.

He was a retired union carpenter; was well known as the “grower of grafted nut trees,” having won several awards at the Farm Show; a former beekeeper in Rutherford and known as the “Honey Man”; an Army veteran of World War II; a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Elliottsburg, Carpenter’s Union Local 287, and a member of Rutherford Fire Company for 40 years where he was an ambulance driver.

He was the widower of Betty M. Peck Wilson, who died in March of 1978.

Surviving are his wife of 19 years, Eleanor E. Snoke Wilson; four sons, Marlin E. and Larry R., both of Middletown, John R. of Harrisburg and Donald P. of Halifax; a daughter, Barbara D. Allison of Millerstown; a stepson, Edwin N. Weaver of Elizabethtown; four sisters, Grace Frazier of Campbelltown, Rachel Saltzer of Harrisburg, Esther Stubbs of Harrionsville and Rosie Hawthorne of Hummelstown; four brothers, Lester of New Cumberland, Robert of Kentucky, Victor of Elysburg and Marvin of Franklintown; and 10 grandchildren.

Services were held July 1 in Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Hummelstown, with the Rev. Miriam L. Nicholson officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.
