JAMES E. TROUSON SR.
James E. Trouson Sr., 80, of Marysville, died Thursday, July 17, 2003 in Harrisburg Hospital.

He was a retired projects manager at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.; an Army veteran of World War II; and earned the rank of Eagle Scout at age 13.

Surviving are his wife, Harriet R. Trounson; a daughter, Jan Martin of Rhode Island; two sons, James E. Jr. of California and Scott of Seattle, Wash.; a stepson, Robert Toth Jr. of Duncannon; a stepdaughter, Suzanna Rokowski of Reading; and nine grandchildren.

Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville, handled arrangements.

BETTY V. WENTZ
Betty Virginia Wentz, 80, of S. Market Street, Millerstown, died Saturday, July 19, 2003 at home.

She was born July 10, 1923 in Tuscarora Twp. to the late Ibra Benjamin and Emma Jane (Keister) Longacre.

She was employed from 1969 to 1972 at Eileen Hope Dress Manufacturing Company, Duncannon; a 1940 graduate of Millerstown High School; a Methodist; and an accomplished crocheter and an avid reader.

She was the widow of Alvin Martin Wentz, who died July 1, 1993.

Surviving are three sons, Charles A. of Newport RR 5, David B. of Newport RR 2 and James E. of Millerstown; two daughters, Norma J. Wentz and Dolores L. Wentz, both at home; a sister, Kathryn “Mary” Boyer of Duncannon; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jay, Edward and Banks Longacre; and five sisters, Sarah Fawver, Zelda Seiler, Mettie Fisher, Ella Hoke and Dorothy Gish.

Services were held July 22 in Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with the Rev. Michael Brossman officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.

ROBERT L. CAMPBELL
Robert L. “Bob” Campbell, 75, of Newport Road, Newport, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born June 29, 1928 in Miller Twp., Newport, to the late Tony and Lena (Gipe) Campbell.

He had worked for TRW and was retired from the Pennsylvania State Liquor Store in Duncannon; an Army veteran of World War II; a member of VFW Post 224 and American Legion Post 340, both of Duncannon, and Newport Social Order of Owls; and enjoyed doing puzzles.

He was the widower of Mary Campbell.

Surviving are his wife, Rita M. Campbell; four stepdaughters, Sandra L. Graham of Columbia, S.C., Nancy A. Roush and Barbara J. Wright, both of Duncannon, and Susan Hockenberry of Newport; six stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 10 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with pastor Michael Witmer officiating. Burial, with military honors by Duncannon VFW Post 255, was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Newport.

RONALD E. LAWYER
Ronald Eugene Lawyer, 65, of Mountain Road, Buffalo Twp., Liverpool, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003.

He was born in Harrisburg to the late Irwin and Sara (Shadow) Lawyer.

He owned and operated the former Colonial House Restaurant, Routes 11-15, Liverpool, for 18 years until his retirement in 1988; a 1956 graduate of New Cumberland High School; a Marine reservist from 1956 to 1959; a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Liverpool, Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 925, Millerstown, and Fraternal Order of Elks, Lodge 2257, West Shore; and enjoyed fishing and hunting and his two dachshunds, Precious and Buster.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Violet L. Barrick Lawyer; a son, Roger L. McBride of Newport; three daughters, Debra M. Lawyer of Mt. Holly Springs, Athena L. Lawyer of Enola and Leslie C. Bowersox of Ickesburg; two brothers, George of Jacksonville, Fla., and John of Enola; two sisters, Patsy Moan of Camp Hill and Sandy Lawyer of Carlisle; six grandsons and a granddaughter; a brother-in-law, Frank Misiti of New Cumberland; and a granddaughter-in-law.

Services were held Sept. 9 in his church with the Rev. James R. Bramer officiating.

Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, handled arrangements.

RUTH S. GRING
Ruth S. Gring, 98, formerly of Wilmington, Del. and New Bloomfield, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003 in Willow Valley Lake Manor, Willow Street.

She was born Sept. 15, 1904 in Philadelphia to the late York and Bertha (Barrick) Smith.

She was retired from the Wilmington Trust Co.; had studied music in Philadelphia; a former member and organist of Church of the Nativity and St. Stephen, Newport; and a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, Lancaster, and the former Newport Women’s Club.

She was the widow of Wilbur D. Gring.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held Sept. 3 in Newport Cemetery with the Rev. Canon William T. Warne officiating.

HARRY F. HOCKENBERRY SR.
Harry F. “Buck” Hockenberry Sr., 71, of Duncannon died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at home.

He was born Feb. 21, 1932 in Duncannon to the late Wilbur and Mary (Harp) Hockenberry.

He was retired from the former White and Wingate Sawmill; an Army veteran of the Korean War; a member of Duncannon Assembly of God Church, Perry Lodge 458 F&AM, Marysville, Harrisburg Consistory, Duncannon Senior Citizens and a life member of Duncannon Fire Company, where he was a former assistant fire chief; and a former board member of Duncannon EMS.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Bartholomew Hockenberry; children: Penny Fedder of Duncannon, Harry F. Jr. of Coal Twp., Peggy L. Gates of Duncannon and Charles E. of Duncannon; a brother, Earl J. of Duncannon; two sisters, Emma Klinepeter of New Bloomfield and Margaret Gallagher of Gratz; seven grandchildren, Eric, Tommy, Christie, David, Charlie, Holly and Harry III; a great-granddaughter; two stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher; and two brothers, George and Charles.

Services were held Sept. 5 in Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Dale Rosenberger officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Union Cemetery, Duncannon.

WENDY J. EARNEST
Wendy Jo Earnest, 40, of Duncannon RR 4 died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.

She was born May 2, 1963 in Harrisburg to Martha Fox Miller of Millerstown and the late Hiram “Jack” Miller.

She was employed by Rohrer Bus, Duncannon, and was a part-time employee of H&R Block; a graduate of Susquenita High School; and assistant cheerleading coach for SMA.

In addition to her mother, surviving are her husband, Clark E. Earnest; children, Devvin A., Trevor A. and Kendell A., all at home; two brothers, Jack E. Miller of Lancaster and Jason E. Miller of Millerstown; three sisters, Carol R. Baker of Duncannon, Holly R. Tarr of Millerstown and Emma M. Goodling of New Bloomfield; her grandmother, Jeanette Reichel of Lancaster; and 21 nieces and nephews.

Services were held Sept. 9 in Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon.

LEAH LIPNIS
Leah Lipnis, 45, of Water Street, Landisburg, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

She was a former employee of Capital Area Intermediate Unit, Summerdale; a member of New Hope United Church of Christ, Landisburg; and enjoyed crafts.

Surviving are her husband, Larry; a daughter, Cierra; her mother, Dorothy Buszta of Landisburg; a sister, Judy Adamic of Red Rock; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Sept. 2 in Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, with the Rev. E. Levain Fouse officiating.

GLADYS E. LOPER
Gladys E. Loper, 87, of Chandra Drive, Duncannon, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 in Stonebridge Nursing Home.

She was born March 29, 1916 in Florin, Pa., to the late Samuel and Bessie (Cottler) Fair.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Clair R. Loper; two sons, Wayne C. of Duncannon and Richard W. of New Bloomfield; a daughter, Patricia Mayberry of Mechanicsburg; three brothers, Leon Fair and Richard Fair of Hershey and Donald Fair of Lebanon; a sister, Jean Fisher of Lancaster; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 2 in Boyer Funeral Home, Duncannon with the Rev. Anthony C. Hill officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Garden, Harrisburg.

FRANCES MARTZ
Frances Martz, 87, formerly of Village Circle, East York, and currently a two-year resident in Thornwald Nursing Home, Carlisle, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 9, 1916 at Gettysburg to the late John and Minerva Brown Hershey Shulley, who had lived in Ortanna.

For 30 years she was employed by the Bon-Ton Departments Stores. She was a buyer for the women’s ready to wear department, and retired the same day her husband retired from York Shipley Corporation in 1978.

She was a 50-year member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ in West York, where she taught Sunday school, served on the consistory as a deacon and elder, and was active in the Women’s Guild. She was a member of Starlight Chapter 508, Order of Eastern Star, and past Worthy High Priestess of Sychar Shrine 36, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, both of York, and a Daughter of the American Revolution.

She was the widow Guy W. Martz.

Surviving are a son, Rev. George C. Martz of New Bloomfield; two brothers, Glenn Shulley of Breckenridge, Texas, and Albert Shulley of Winston Salem, N.C.; a sister, Blanche Freeman of Gettysburg; three grandchildren, G. Calvin Martz Jr. of Manchester, Mo., Christine Martz of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Victoria Velez of Mechanicsburg; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son and a brother, Raymond Shulley of Fountain Dale, Pa.

A graveside service was held Sept. 6 in Flohrs Church Cemetery, McKnightstown, with the Rev. Elmer Scofield officiating.

Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, handled arrangements.

DOUGLAS L. MAJOR
Douglas L. Major, 65, of Cherry Road, Buffalo Twp., Liverpool, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 14, 1938 in Pottstown to J. Earl Major of Royersford and the late Ruth (Fry) Major.

He retired in 1995 from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Harrisburg, where he worked in the Bureau of Market Specialists for 32 years, and was a self-employed auctioneer for 15 years and farmed; a 1955 graduate of Pottstown High School and a 1959 graduate of the National Agriculture College with a degree in animal husbandry; an Army veteran; a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Liverpool, where he was a former Sunday school teacher, and Liverpool Ambulance League; and enjoyed farming, especially cattle and horses, and playing tennis.

In addition to his father, surviving are his wife of nearly 42 years, Tonita D. Ocheltree Major; two sons, Timothy E. of Etters and Jarrod B. of Liverpool; two daughters, Abigail L. Worthy of Liverpool and Rebecca R. Haag of Bethel; a sister, Patricia McFarland of Landsdale; two granddaughters, Jessica E. Worthy and Tonya J. Worthy; a nephew, Brian McFarland; and two great-nephews, Joshua and Jacob McFarland.

He was preceded in death by a nephew, Bradley McFarland.

Services were held Sept. 3 in his church with Rev. James R. Bramer officiating. Burial was in Hunters Valley Cemetery, Liverpool RR 2.

LAURA C. REED
Laura C. Reed, 91, of Duncannon died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 at Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon.

She was born Nov. 12, 1911 in Harrisburg to the late Harry and Agnes Keefer.

She was retired from the former Eileen Hope Dress Factory, Duncannon.

She was the widow of Clyde L. Reed Sr.

Surviving are a son, Charles “Mike” E. Keefer of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Mildred Horn of Carlisle; two granddaughters, two great-grandsons; nine stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 11, in Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High St., Duncannon, with the Rev. Dale Rosenberger officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Duncannon.

Viewing is from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, in the funeral home.
