MIRIAM R. CRANE
Miriam Rosanna “Mim” Crane, 98, formerly of Walnut Street, Liverpool, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003 in Nipple Convalescent Home, Liverpool, where she had resided for the past 12 years.

She was born April 19, 1905 in Northumberland to the late Arthur and Fianna (Brown) Aucker.

She was employed by various Liverpool garment factories and a homemaker; attended Liverpool High School; a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Liverpool, and attended Liverpool Senior Citizens Center; and enjoyed flower gardening, traveling, baby-sitting, making fudge and was an accomplished quilter.

She was the widow of Charles Alfred Crane, who died Sept. 30, 1963.

Surviving are a son, Charles “Richard” of Liverpool; two daughters, Alma C. Shumaker of Liverpool and Darlene A. Davies of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren, Sandra Lee Brofee, Roger A. Crane, Richard E. Crane, Nancy E. Berger, Patricia Ann Crane, Suzanne E. Watkins and Pamela K. Peters; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard, George, Raymond and Clarence Aucker; a sister, Ida Aucker; and two sons-in-law, Earl E. “Ted” Shumaker, who died in 1995, and Ivor Davies Jr., who died September, 1968.

Services were held Oct. 24 in Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with the Rev. James R. Bramer officiating. Burial was in Liverpool Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church, 1000 N. Front St., Liverpool 17045.

HELEN J. LYONS
Helen J. Lyons, 92, of Blain RR 1 died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 27, 1911 at Blain RR 1 to the late Clark D.R. and Sarah (Leiby) Keck.

She was a former employee of Strawbridge Clothier, Philadelphia; a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Blain, Blain Senior Citizens Center, Blain Ambulance and Order of Eastern Star, Cape May, N.J.

She was the widow of Capt. Dale S. Lyons, U.S.N. (Ret.)

Surviving are a son, Dr. John R. Lyons of St. Cloud, Minn.; two daughters, Patricia L. Ditunno of Philadelphia and Barbara K. Wishnoff of Abington; a sister, Irene McConnell of Blain; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 24 in her church with the Rev. Richard D. Schoenly officiating. Burial was in Blain Cemetery.

Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, handled arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church, P.O. Box 127, Blain 17006, Blain Fire Company, or Blain Senior Citizens Center.

JEANNE E. ROBINSON
Jeanne Elizabeth Robinson of Enola and formerly of Duncannon died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003 at ManorCare West, Camp Hill.

She was born in Pottsville to the late Rev. Dr. Charles M. and Laura (Burd) Nicholas.

She was retired from Susquenita School District, where she taught elementary education; a graduate of Pottsville High School and West Chester University; a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Duncannon; and enjoyed teaching, music, art, Raggedy Ann and Andy, bells, television and spending time with her family.

Surviving are a daughter, Laurie Armstrong of Enola; a sister, Laura Burd Hartzel of Duncannon; two granddaughters, Amber Hiltz of Duncannon and Ashley Armstrong of Enola; a great-granddaughter, Kelsey Marie Hiltz of Enola; and a niece, Melanie Jean Nicholas of Athens, Ga.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. G. Leonard Nicholas of Athens, Ga.

Services were held Oct. 23 in Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Robert Wittlinger officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

MARTHA I. VANLIERDE
Martha I. VanLierde, 84, formerly of Hegins, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at the home of her son in Centre Twp., New Bloomfield.

She was born March 31, 1919 in Philipsburg to the late Fred and Mary Dunzik.

She had worked for Nationwide Insurance Co., and the Derry Twp. and Tri-Valley school districts; attended Eastern Bible College; a member of Fear Not Assembly of God Church, Hegins; and enjoyed playing the piano.

She was the widow of Emil VanLierde Jr.

Surviving are a son, E. Bart; and three grandchildren; Chad and Joseph VanLierde and Samantha Thompson.

Burial was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.

CHARLES E. CUMMINGS JR.
Charles E. Cummings Jr., 82, of Duncannon died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born June 23, 1921 in Duncannon to the late Charles E. Sr. and Clara (Jones) Cummings.

He was retired from the Pennsylvania State Public Utility Commission and worked many years for Dr. Harry Pfautz as an electrician and carpenter; an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart; a member of American Legion Post 340 and VFW Post 255; and played pool for Post 340 and the Pub.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Weldon Cummings; a daughter, Jane L. Welker of Duncannon; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth L.

A memorial service was held with the Rev. George Yerger officiating.

Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.

MARLIN W. LANDVATER SR.
Marlin W. “Pops” Landvater Sr., 76, of Landisburg RR 2 died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 in Harrisburg Hospital.

He was born July 10, 1927 at Hummelstown to the late Elmer R. and Sarah S. (Lentz) Landvater.

He was retired from Pennsy Supply Inc., Harrisburg; Marine Corps veteran of World War II; a member of American Legion Post 265, Hummelstown, 40 & 8 Club, Chambers Hill, Perry County American Cancer Society, Victory Voices, Hershey, Perry County Old Iron Collectors Club, Landisburg Fire Company and Landisburg Ambulance Club.

He was the widower of Helen Boyd Gingrich Landvater.

Surviving are a son, John W. of Landisburg; a daughter, Marla C. Hewitt of Elizabeth City, N.C.; three brothers, Irvin Witmer of Elizabethtown, and Paul and Harold Landvater, both of Hummelstown; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Marlin W. Jr.; a daughter, Marlina J. Landvater; and a brother, Richard.

A memorial service, with military honors, was held Oct. 23 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Kenneth Witmer officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Landisburg Ambulance Club, P.O. Box 122, Landisburg 17040.

TERRY L. BROWN
Terry L. Brown, 46, of Duncannon died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was a truck driver and a member of the NRA.

Surviving are three sons, Ronald P. Etzweiler and Devin R. Brown, both of Duncannon, and Randolph P. Etzweiler of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Vicki L. Brown of Duncannon; three brothers, Warren Corkle of Ohio, Richard R. Brown Jr. of Marysville and William H. Brown of Camp Hill; four sisters, Dorothy I. Tinkey of Dillsburg, Lizabeth A. Thomson of Thomasville, Nancy J. Longenecker of Dillsburg and Rose M. Brown of Enola; and two grandsons.

A memorial service was held Oct. 24 in Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville.

ALMA E. ROWE
Alma E. Rowe, 70, of N. Sixth Street, Newport, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was born Feb. 21, 1933 in Girard, Ohio, to the late Norbert and Anna (Steele) Horne.

She was a clerk for 40 years at the former A&P, Newport and New Bloomfield, and the former Riverside and present BiLo store in New Bloomfield; and a member of Family of God and Hilltop Christian Church and life member of Newport Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, Charles E. Sr.; two sons, Charles E. Jr. of Shermans Dale and Richard D. of Lewistown; a daughter, Charlene Kay Rowe of Newport; a brother, Ralph Little of Watsontown; and four grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, in her church with the Rev. James Penica officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday.

Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, is handling arrangements.

JANET E. SWARTZ
Janet E. Swartz, 85, of York died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2033 at York Hospital.

She was born July 25, 1918 in Harrisburg to the late Charles E. and Janet (Jones) Rippman.

She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Red Lion and Central school districts for 35 years; a graduate of the former Indiana State Teachers College of Pennsylvania, where she received a bachelor of arts degree, and a graduate of Maryland Institute of Art, where she received a master’s degree in art; and a member of First Presbyterian Church of York.

She was the widow of George E. Swartz.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Toot of Spring Grove, and nieces and nephews.

Services were held Oct. 27 in her church with the Rev. Dr. John E. Morgan officiating. A graveside service was held the same day in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.

Workinger-Semmel Funeral Home and Crematorium, York, handled arrangements.

GERALD E. BREIDENBACH SR.
Gerald E. Breidenbach Sr., 44, of Susquehanna Street, Harrisburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003 in an automobile accident in Rye Twp.

He was born Jan. 26, 1959 in Columbus, Ohio.

Surviving are his companion, Ethel Wilt, with whom he lived; a son, Gerald E. Jr.; and his mother, Mary Jane Milligan Breidenbach, and a brother, Jack C., both of Columbus.

BLAINE E. CARRUTHERS
Blaine E. Carruthers, 85, of Montour Road, Landisburg, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 at home.

He was born Nov. 28, 1917 in Concord, Franklin County, to the late Joshua J. and Minnie M. (Duncan) Carruthers.

He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, and had worked at the former Navy Depot, Mechanicsburg; was an Army veteran of World War II; a member of American Legion Post 232, Dry Run, Landisburg Fire Company and Landisburg Ambulance Club.

Surviving are his wife, Pauline E. Clouse Carruthers, and a sister, Mary Linn of Shippensburg.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Charles Lee Carruthers; a half-brother, Clair Carruthers; and a half-sister, Louella Carruthers.

Services were held Nov. 26 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Jeffry Yeager officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Restland Cemetery, Loysville. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, P.O. Box 266, Enola 17025.

RUTH G. FORNEY
Ruth G. Forney, 91, of Duncannon died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.She was born July 18, 1912 to the late William R. Feig and Ruth Fernley Hill.

She was the widow of Claude Joseph Forney Sr.

Surviving are a son, Robert of Duncannon; three grandchildren, Claude III of Missouri, John of Hawaii and Paul of Texas; two great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Antoinette of Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by a son, Claude II.

Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, handled arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 1517 Cedar Cliff Drive, Camp Hill 17011.

JEAN P. LEWIS
Jean P. Lewis, 64, of Deerfield, Va., formerly of New Bloomfield, died at home Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 of lung cancer.

While living in New Bloomfield, she had been employed by Little John’s Restaurant and Hoss’s, both of Carlisle.

Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Duff W. Lewis Jr.; two daughters, Belinda Lewis of Downingtown and Bethany Knouse of Millerstown; two sons, D. Scott of Lakeland, Fla., and Blake of Lancaster; three brothers and a sister, all of Maryland; and five grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 18 at Bear Funeral Home, Churchville, Va.
