CLAIR L. HIMES
Clair L. Himes, 75, of State Road, Duncannon, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004 in the Bon Secour Holy Family Hospital, Altoona.

He was born Dec. 9, 1928 in Duncansville, Blair County, to the late Howard and Dorothy (Ritchie) Himes.

He was a former employee of Asplundh Tree Company, where he was a foreman; an Army veteran; a member of the World Wide Church of God, Harrisburg; and an avid hunter.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn A. Hoke Himes of Duncannon; a brother, John H. of Duncannon; and several nieces and nephews.

A service was held Jan. 20 with the Rev. George Yerger officiating in Rolling Green Cemetery Chapel, Camp Hill, where burial followed.

Boyer Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.

RICHARD A. MILLER
Richard Alvin Miller, 89, of Woodlands Lutheran Camp, Montverde, Fla., and formerly of Putter Drive, Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004 at Ocoee Healthcare Center, Ocoee, Fla.

He was born Aug. 11, 1914 in Perry County to the late Theodore and Ethel Clara (Shumaker) Miller, and raised at Tressler Orphans Home, Loysville.

He was a self-employed plumber, the first plumbing inspector for Washington County, Md., from 1958 to 1973, and the first plumbing instructor at Career Studies Center from 1973 to 1979; an Army veteran of World War II; a graduate of the former Duncannon High School and attended classes at the University of Maryland; a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and American Legion Potomac Post 202, both of Williamsport, Md., past president of Western District Lutheran Church Men, charter member of Volunteer Fire Company, Halfway, Md., and a life member of Washington County PTA; and volunteered for more than 50 years with the Boys Scouts of America.

He was the widower of Doris Catherine Mitchell Miller, who died in 1960, and Margaret Kathryn Tasker Miller, who died in 1995.

Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Jean Doerr of Ramrod Key, Fla.; a son, Fred E. of Panama City, Fla.; a sister, Leah Granger of Perry County; two grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Johner, and two brothers, Earl L. and Lester M.

Services were held Jan. 19 in his church with the Rev. W. Gregory Martin officiating. Burial was Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport, Md., handled arrangements.

GLADYS A. BUPP
Gladys A. Bupp, 83, formerly of Loysville and Elliottsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 in ManorCare, Carlisle.

She was born Jan. 28, 1920 at Elliottsburg to the late Daniel and Mary (Bower) Range.

She had worked at canneries in Adams County and a sewing factory in Newport; and had attended Pine Lawn Chapel and Mt. Vernon Brethren in Christ Church, both near Erly.

She was the widow of Robert E. Bupp, who died Feb. 11, 1990.

Surviving are two daughters, Evelyn J. Reisinger of Landisburg and Sue L. Myers of Shermans Dale; four sons, Ezra D. of Elliottsburg, Dayne E. of Shermans Dale, Leonard L. of Landisburg and Monty V. of Newport; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by two daughters; two brothers; two sisters; and three grandsons.

Services were held Jan. 19 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. David Eddy officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery, Loysville.

JOE E. MORRISON
Joe E. Morrison, 74, of Rambo Hill Road, Shermans Dale, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 6, 1929 in Carlisle to the late James R. and Susan (Jacobs) Morrison.

He retired from TRW in Harrisburg; was a Korean War veteran; life member of New Bloomfield VFW Post 7463, where he served as commander, post chaplain and color guard, and a member of Newport American Legion and Sheaffer’s Valley Church of God, where he served as superintendent and councilman for many years; and an avid hunter and fisherman and a life member of the North American Hunting Club.

Surviving are by his wife of 50 years, Ivetta “Bunny” Morrison of Shermans Dale; a daughter, Lori Morrison Carlson of Loganton; two sons, Gregory E. of Dillsburg and Steven J. of York; three brothers: Dale of Carlisle, Larry of Enola and Keith of Landisburg; two sisters, Arlie Sites of New Bloomfield and Sandra Kemrer of Shermans Dale; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 16 in Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, with the Rev. Harry Cole officiating. Burial, with military honors by New Bloomfield VFW Post 7463, was in Grier’s Point Cemetery.

H. WAYNE CLEMENS
H. Wayne Clemens, 89, formerly of Landisburg, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 in Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle.

He was born Feb. 15, 1914 in Ludlow, Pa., to the late Norman and Esther (Temple) Clemens.

He was the retired owner of the former H. Wayne Clemens Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, retiring in 1965, and previously had owned a funeral home in Clarks Summit; an Army veteran of World War II with the 10th Mountain Division; a member of Silver Springs Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsburg, 50-year life member of Adams Lodge 319 F&AM, New Bloomfield, and a 66-year life member of the Elks in Carlisle, where he was a former exalted leader; former chairman of the board of the Bank of Landisburg; and had been a friend of the Von Trapp family.

He was the widower of Eloise Clemens.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Brookhart Clemens of Carlisle; a stepdaughter, Beth Logan of Elliottsburg; a sister, Helen Mortland of Monroeville; and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Ruth Clemens.

Services were held Jan. 16 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Stephen Melton officiating. Burial was in Landisburg Cemetery.

GEORGE T. DEIBLER SR.
George T. Deibler Sr., 97, formerly of Marysville, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004 in the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg.

He was a retired steelworker for Bethlehem Steel Co.; an Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart; a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Enola; a life member of VFW Post 710 of Steelton, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Pennsylvania Chapter 50; and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was the widower of Anna M. Deibler.

Surviving are a son, George T. Jr. of Camp Hill; a daughter, Shirley Shannon of Marysville; four sisters, Annabelle Baird of Utah, Doris Meyers of Piketown, Marie Sourbeer of Camp Hill and Erma Groff of Dauphin; four grandchildren, Robert Zeiders of Reading, Sean Zeiders of Marysville, Anna Deibler and Theresa Deibler, both of Camp Hill; and five great-grandchildren, Eric, Denise, Kayla, Ashlie and Reiley Zeiders.

Services were held Jan. 15 in Richardson Funeral Home, Enola. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Swatara Twp.

KATHRYN M. SHARAR
Kathryn M. Sharar, 92, of S. Second Street, Newport, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004 at home.

She was born May 7, 1911 in Fulton County to the late Denton R. and Jennie (Warnick) Rosenberry.
She was retired from the former Newport Silk Factory; a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Newport; and enjoyed cooking and being with her family.

She was the widow of Charles R. Sharar Sr.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia A. Sharar and M. Louise Lightner, both of Newport; a son, Charles R. Jr. of Newhall, Calif.; two brothers, Denton R. Rosenberry of Burnt Cabins and Kenneth Rosenberry of Chambersburg; a sister, Teresa Debelyak of New Wilmington; four granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard A. Sharar; six brothers; and four sisters.

Services were held Jan. 17 in her church with the Rev. Irene Friberg-Dussaq and the Rev. Canon William T. Warne officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

DAVID A. ZEIDERS
David Alan Zeiders, 39, of Columbia, and formerly of Newport, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004 in Hartford County, Md., as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born June 9, 1964 in Harrisburg.

He was a graduate of Newport High School; a member of Newport Fire Company; and enjoyed hunting.

Surviving are his father and stepmother, Richard and Darlene Zeiders of Newport; his mother, Carolyn O. Zeiders of Carlisle; his fiance, Christine Gill of Columbia; a son and a daughter, Alan Paul and Alisha Marie Zeiders, both of Newport; a stepson and two stepdaughters, Keith Gill, Corine Gill and Mary Osborn, all of Columbia; paternal grandmother, Gladys Zeiders of Newport; a brother, Michael of Newport; and two sisters, Karen Sue Arnold of Newport and Lauri Sebastian of Mechanicsburg.

Services were held Jan. 17 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with pastor Gerald Rasmus officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

NORMAN W. SHEIBLEY
Norman W. “Woody” Sheibley, 81, of Duncannon died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born Jan. 26, 1922 in Penn Twp. to the late Milton E. and Grace (Beichder) Sheibley.

He had worked for the former Pennsylvania Railroad and was retired from the Pennsylvania State Hospital; a member of Duncannon Presbyterian Church and Duncannon Fire Company; and enjoyed hunting.

He was the widower of Mary Miller Sheibley.

Surviving are a son, Barry W., and two daughters, Joanne Hamilton and Teresa Kenee, all of Duncannon; four grandchildren, Karen Roush, Jason Kenee, Barry Sheibley Jr. and Jill Chronister; a stepgranddaughter, Kim Meeks; six great-grandchildren, Brad Roush, Brent Roush, Matthew Sheibley, Taylor Sheibley, Brooke Sheibley and Kirsten Chronister; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Nicole Sampson and Anthony Brown.

Services were held Jan. 19 in his church with the Rev. Dr. Krisana Poontajak officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Duncannon.

DAN K. SMITH
Dan K. Smith, 74, of Smith Road, Buffalo Twp., Newport, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 at home.

He was born June 21, 1929 in Buffalo Twp. to the late Dan C.K. and Mary (Knuth) Smith.

He was retired from Mason Dixon Truck Line, a part-time farmer and had worked for Buffalo Twp.; an Air Force veteran of the Korean War; and a member of Bucks United Methodist Church, Newport Lodge 381 F&AM, and Perry Valley Grange.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Sherman Smith; a son, Kevin C. of Newport; two daughters, Terrilee Kerstetter of Mt. Pleasant Mills and Leeyan Smith of Newport; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Uldene Mease.

Services were held Jan. 18 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in Bucks Church Cemetery.

ANNA P. SHAEFFER
Anna P. Shaeffer, 92, of Duncannon died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon.

She was born Feb. 10, 1911 in Locust Twp., Columbia County, to the late Carben and Eva (Litwhiler) Levan.

She formerly worked for the Pennsylvania state government and was a member of the Numidia Charge, United Church of Christ, Catawissa.

She was the widow of Charles L. Shaeffer.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

A private service was held at Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Perry L. Kile officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Duncannon.

Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.

ANDREW R. PICKENS
Andrew Read Pickens, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004.

He was born Dec. 12, 1921 in Birmingham, Ala., the only child of Henry and Valentine (Stoehr) Pickens.

He worked for Celanese Coatings Corp. for 25 years, later managing several paint stores in the Harrisburg area until his retirement; was a graduate of Columbia University; an Army captain during World War II, serving as a German translator; a member of Brookfield Bible Church; lifelong photographer from the days of his first Brownie camera; an accomplished fencer for many years, competing in central Pennsylvania; and a gifted cartoonist and artist, active with the Harrisburg Art Association and other groups.

He was the widower of Sara Leach Pickens, to whom he was married 42 years.

Surviving are five children, Mark R. of San Francisco, Calif., Karen L. Pickens of Lemoyne, Stephen T. of Denver, Colo., Lynne D. Pickens of Landisburg and Andrew J. of Denver; and four grandchildren, Leslye, Noah, Annie and Ian.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Leslie Ann.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22, in his church in Harrisburg. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery, Cassopolis, Mich.

Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.
