GEORGE W. HARTMAN SR.
George W. Hartman Sr., 74, of Watts Twp. died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 in VA Medical Center, Lebanon.

He was a retired auto technician from Capital Volkswagen; a member of American Legion Post 364, Liverpool, and Central YMCA of Harrisburg; and was an avid fisherman and enjoyed horses, motorcycles, hunting and boxing.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara J. Hartman; three daughters, Linda L. Turpin of Oberlin, Glenda A. Hartman of Mount Joy and Cynthia K. Wood of Shippensburg; two sons, George W. Jr. of Harrisburg and Rick A. of Dillsburg; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Beth Ann Turpin.

A graveside service was held July 20 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

W. Orville Kimmel Funeral Home handled arrangements.

HARRY N. JOHNSON
Harry N. Johnson, 57, of Duncannon, formerly of Gallipolis, Ohio, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born Jan. 24, 1947 in Gallipolis to the late Harley and Lucy Johnson.

He was employed as a truck driver for New Cumberland Army Deport; an Army veteran of the Vietnam War; a member of Bethany Church of the Nazarene and the Depot Gutter Rats; and coached girls softball for three years and enjoyed playing softball.

Surviving are his wife, Janis A. Wilson Johnson, a daughter, Megan Elizabeth, and a son, Eric Christopher, all of Duncannon; and a brother, Harley Jr. of Gallipolis.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 22, in his church, 1605 Parkway West, Harrisburg. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, in the church.

SUSAN M. MAGARO
Susan M. Magaro, 92, of Enola died Sunday, July 11, 2004 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.

She was retired from the State of Pennsylvania and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Enola.

She was the widow of Tony P. Magaro.

Surviving are a son, Anthony R. of Enola; a stepdaughter, Margaret Fenicle of Newport; a sister, Helen R. Clouser of New Bloomfield; eight grandchildren, Robert G. Zies of Selinsgrove, Larry G. Zies of Newport, Cindy Hatter of Camp Hill, Ginny Summers of Enola, Toni Zies of Harrisburg, Patty Zies of Rupert, Idaho, Gina Livingston of Arizona and Dion Magaro of Enola; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 14 in her church. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery.

MARY G. SHEARER
Mary Grace Shearer, 87, of Duncannon died Thursday, July 15, 2004 at home.

She was born Dec. 12, 1916 in Carroll Twp. to the late Charles and Lizzie (Adams) McDonald.

She was a member of Dellville United Methodist Church, Duncannon, and The Perry Historians.

She was the widow of Jasper O. Shearer.

Surviving are a daughter, Pauline E. Smith of Loysville RR 2; four grandchildren, Laurel Shearer, Ruth Feltman, Master Sgt. Clark Shearer and Clair A. Smith Jr.; and a great-grandson, Scott Hershberger.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles S.; and three sisters, Marie Hill, Helen Rinehart and Marian Barrick.

Services were held July 18 in her church with the Rev. Robert Stump officiating. Burial was in Dellville Cemetery.

RUTH J. TODD
Ruth J. Todd, 97, formerly of Newport, died Monday, July 12, 2004 in West Palm Beach, Fla.

She was born Dec. 16, 1906 in Huntingdon to the late George T. and Sara E. (Bryan) Cunningham.

She had been a teacher and worked with her husband in his dental office in Newport, retiring as a house director for the War College of Art in Philadelphia; a Methodist and former youth leader in Newport United Methodist Church; former Girl Scout leader in Newport; and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She was the widow of Dr. George E. Todd.

Surviving are a daughter, Suzanne Todd of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert C.

A graveside service was held July 16 in Newport Cemetery.

SUSAN BUTLER STEPHENS
Susan Butler Stephens, 48, of Carlisle died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 in Harrisburg Hospital.

She was born Sept. 19, 1955 in Gettysburg to the late John C. and Nettie (Foreman) Butler.

She worked at the BBQ Tavern in Carlisle and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of AMVETS Post 274, Carlisle.

Surviving are a significant other, David Slenker; two brothers, John L. Butler of Mechanicsburg and James W. Butler of New Cumberland; and seven sisters, Shirley A. Tressler of Florida, Nancy A. Moyer of Newport, Deborah D. Sheaffer of Carlisle, Peggy L. Boyer of Lebanon, Sandra J. Rhodes of Lewisberry, Beverly J. Majors of Newport and Donna J. Scott of Carlisle.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Thomas Butler, and a sister, Linda L. Boyd.

A memorial service was held Aug. 6 in Shiremanstown First Church of God with pastor Simon Lehman officiating.

JACK L. BOWERSOX SR.
Jack Lee Bowersox Sr., 49, of Ickesburg, Saville Twp., died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 at home.

He was born in Harrisburg to the late Lester Eugene and Margaret Jane (Bennett) Bowersox.

He retired Dec. 8, 2003 from Overnite Transportation, Mechanicsburg, where he was employed for 12 years as a dock worker, and previously was employed by Capital Products, Mechanicsburg, for 16 years on the paint line and in trailer repair, until the company closed; a 1974 graduate of Greenwood High School, Millerstown; a member of Blessed Hope Bible Church, Liverpool, and the men’s bowling league called “Ray’s Bowlers” at Mifflintown; and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and sports, and a great fan of NASCAR and Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles football.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 28 years, Leslie C. McBride Bowersox; three sons, Jack L. Jr. of Carlisle, Shawn A. of Ickesburg and Anthony T. of Shermans Dale; two grandsons, Wyatt Hayes Bowersox and Hunter Ipock; four brothers, William E. of Liverpool RR 1, David L. of Millerstown, Douglas A. of Shermans Dale and Randall A. of Millerstown; and a sister, Sara A. Bowersox of Logantown.

A service was held Aug. 7 in his church with pastor John C. Briggs officiating. Burial was in Hunter’s Valley Cemetery, Liverpool.

LEWIS R. CRULL
Lewis R. Crull, 87, of Mechanicsburg died Friday, July 23, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born Oct. 30, 1916 in Landisburg to the late Arthur and Sarah (Rhule) Crull.

He was retired from the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Allen, Pa., where he worked as caretaker, was a camp ranger at Hidden Valley Boy Scout Camp, Loysville, and a former employee of Carlisle Tire and Rubber; and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Marguerite Smith Crull of Mechanicsburg; two daughters, Barbara Gilbert of Enola and Judith Brown of Mechanicsburg; two brothers, Scott and Melvin Crull, both of Landisburg; a son-in-law, J. Leon Gilbert of Enola; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Smith; and five brothers, James, Malcolm, Clarence, Daniel and Charles Crull.

A graveside service was held July 27 in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Allen, with the Rev. Bob Malick officiating.

ARTHUR A. SHEAFFER
Arthur A. Sheaffer, 88, of Sterretts Gap Avenue, Carlisle, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 27, 1916 in Carlisle Springs to the late Harvey E. Sr. and Tressie V. (Goodling) Sheaffer.

He was a stonemason for Dickinson College, Carlisle, retiring in 1981 after 16 years, prior to that he was a self-employed stonemason; a Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the Seabees; and a member of St. Matthias Lutheran Church, Carlisle Springs and N. Middleton Twp. Senior Citizens.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Kathryn B. Sheaffer; four daughters, Patricia J. Cipolla and Marjorie C. Weary, both of Dillsburg, Carolyn E. Bair of Boiling Springs and Janice K. Funk of Mechanicsburg; three brothers, Harvey E. Jr., Rev. Sterlen S. and Paul E., all of Carlisle; three sisters, Sarah Ludt and Ruth A. Hoy, both of Carlisle, and Mary E. Ilgenfritz of Valparaiso, Ind.; two grandsons, Daniel L. Bair of West Chester and Nathaniel C. Funk of Mechanicsburg; and three granddaughters, Heather A. Kuffa and Cara M. Funk, both of Mechanicsburg, and Sarah G. Weary of Dillsburg.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Carl, Clark, Wilmer and Ralph; and a sister, Dorothy Sheffer.

Services were held Aug. 6 in his church with the Rev. Sarah A. Heintzelman officiating. Burial was in Letort Cemetery, Carlisle.

JUDITH A. WILBERT
Judith A. Wilbert, 65, of Landisburg died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 1, 1939 at Landisburg to Helen M. Trostle Sheaffer of Landisburg and the late Luther I. “Duke” Trostle.

She was a homemaker and proprietor of Perry Junction, Landisburg; a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Landisburg RR 1; and enjoyed Perry County history, was a collector of antiques and many other items, and helped many organizations and friends.

She was the widow of Edward J. “Pete” Wilbert.

In addition to her mother, surviving are two sons, Michael E. and Martin L., a daughter, Tamatha H. Willette, and a foster sister, Mary Fisher, all of Landisburg; and three grandchildren, Jeremy B. Wilbert, Rebecca M. Wilbert and Jarrid J. Willette.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph L. and L. John Trostle.

Services were held Aug. 5 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. E. Levain Fouse officiating. Burial was in Landisburg Cemetery.

THELMA R. KEEL
Thelma Ruth “Peck” Keel, 95, of Lincoln Street, Duncannon, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004 in Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon.

She was born Oct. 13, 1908 in Newton/Hamilton, Pa.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Duncannon.

She was the widow of Stanley Fultz.

Surviving are her husband, Clyde L. Keel Sr. of Duncannon; two daughters, Patricia Mutzabaugh of Duncannon and Colleen Rohrer of Mechanicsburg; two stepsons, Clyde L. Keel Jr. of Duncannon and Charles D. Keel of New Bloomfield; two stepdaughters, Sandra Hair of Duncannon and Donna Gamble of Millerstown; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services were held Aug. 16 in Boyer Funeral Home, Duncannon. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Duncannon.
