IRENE BRODISCH
Irene Brodisch, 94, formerly of Andalusia, Bucks County, and a resident of Millerstown for 39 years, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004.

She was born July 18, 1910 in Andalusia to the late Dr. Laurence and Irene (McFadden) Winder.

She was of the Presbyterian faith and enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading and her family.

She was the widow of Dr. William S. Brodisch, who died in 1969.

Surviving are two sons, William S. Jr. of Millerstown and Laurence W. of New Bloomfield; three daughters, Irene B. Williams of Newville, Georgiann A. Skinner of Mt. Pleasant Mills and Emilie Anne Dick of Spotsylvania, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 22 in Highland United Presbyterian Church, Newport, with the Rev. Edward Baugh officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.

David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.

BETTIE S. BURNS
Bettie S. Burns, 84, of Millerstown died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004.

She was born Sept. 26, 1920 in Millerstown to the late Howard and Cora (Stroup) Scholl. She was a lifelong resident of Millerstown.

She was a former co-owner with her husband of Charles H. Burns, Inc.; a lifelong member of Millerstown United Methodist Church; and enjoyed playing cards.

She was the widow of Charles H. Burns, who died in 2001.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna B. Wright of Millerstown; a sister, Florence Ulsh of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Jodi Hoover of Newport and Loren Wright of Millerstown; and two great-grandchildren, Lillian Hoover and Cassie Wright.

Services were held Nov. 22 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Perry Village Resident Activity Fund, 213 E. Main St., New Bloomfield 17068, or her church, 602 E. Sunbury St., Millerstown 17062.

CHARLES M. BARNER JR.
Charles M. Barner Jr., 80, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 in Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg. He was a former resident of Liverpool.

He was born Nov. 24, 1923 in Liverpool to the late Jacob L. Barner and Mary (Zaring) Barner-Zink.

He retired in 1995 as a professional truck driver, which he did most of his life and received many safe driving awards; a 1941 graduate of Millerstown High School; an Army corporal in World War II, serving with the Tornado 8th Armored Division at the Battle of the Bulge and the Czech occupation; of the Methodist faith; and enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing.

He was the widower of Geraldine V. Barner, who died July 4, 2002.

Surviving are two sons, Charles M. “Pepper” Jr. of Millerstown and David R. of Lemoyne; three daughters, Karla B. Levy of Phoenix, Ariz., Trudy J. Sharf of Mechanicsburg and Wendy E. Miller of New Cumberland; three sisters, Evelyn Wetzler and Mildred Byers, both of Millerstown, and Hazel Myers of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Mildred L. Roush Barner of Mechanicsburg.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel A.

GEORGE W. EDMONDSON
George W. Edmondson, 75, of Shermans Dale, formerly of Enola, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was retired from Conrail; a Navy veteran of the Korean War; and a member of Enola Sportsmen’s Club.

Surviving are a son, Tim W. of Shermans Dale; a daughter, Beth Ann Woof of Enola; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Nov. 22 in Perry Heights Cemetery, Marysville.

Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville, handled arrangements.

LOY E. BINGER
Loy E. Binger, 81, of Main Street, Blain, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 30, 1923 at Charles City, Iowa, to the late Fred D. and Nellie (Bistline) Binger.

He was a retired farmer, a bus contractor and driver for more than 55 years, and had been employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation; a former Jackson Twp. supervisor and tax collector; a graduate and former school board member of Blain Vocational School; a member of the Executive Democratic Committee; member, former Sunday school teacher and consistory member of Zion United Church of Christ, Blain; a member of Blain Lodge 706 IOOF since 1948; member since 1958 and past president of Blain Lions Club; and a member of Blain Fire Company, Blain Ambulance Club, Fairview Hunting Camp, Blain, Blain Sportsmen’s Club and a former member of Adams Lodge 319, F&AM, New Bloomfield.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby M. Adair Binger; three children, Loy Richard of Elliottsburg, Mitzi Mae Nace of Landisburg and Patrick Adair Binger of Carlisle; a brother, Kermit of Loysville; two sisters, L. Jean Kessler and Joan Adair, both of Blain; five grandchildren, Jennifer Miller, Allison Binger-Seidle, Jason Nace, Cory Binger and Kyle Binger; and two great-grandchildren, Tricia Miller and Brent Miller.

Services were held Nov. 17 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Revs. Robert Koch and Malcolm E. Martin officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.

DAVID A. KITNER
David Arthur “Pap” Kitner, 73, of Liverpool died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 in Hershey Medical Center as the result of injuries sustained in a work accident.

He was born Oct. 7, 1931 at New Bloomfield to the late Christian S. and Mae Edna (Shearer) Kitner.

He assisted his family in a logging business, worked at Pennsy Supply, Harrisburg, with contractor Art Hoover, self-employed as a contractor, with contractor John Hetrick in Millerstown for 20 years, retired in 1996 from Juniata Lumber and Supply Company, New Bloomfield, after 17 years in the warehouse and making deliveries, and then worked there part-time; and a member of Center Union God’s Missionary Church, Newport, and had attended Church of Christ in Christian Union, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR 1, and Mt. Pleasant Mills Civic Club.

He was the widower of Beatrice Ellen Hetrick Kitner, who died July 28, 1982.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Anna Zechman Martin Kitner; a daughter, Nancy N. Kolva of Elizabethville; two foster children, Daniel J. Comp of Millerstown and Rose C. Comp of Mechanicsburg; six stepchildren, Keith A. Martin of Middleburg RR 4, Kevin A. Martin of Mt. Pleasant Mills RR 3, Kraig A. Martin of Mt. Pleasant Mills RR 2, Karl A. Martin of Selinsgrove, Kris A. Martin of Richfield and Frosteen Hummel of Mt. Pleasant Mills RR 3; two granddaughters, Ensign Janelle R. Kolva, serving with the Navy in Virginia Beach, Va., and Stefanie E. Kolva, at home; three foster grandchildren, Steven D., Yolanda K. and Kevin D. Comp; 13 stepgrandchildren, Shallen and Duane Gaugler of Selinsgrove, Meggan Martin of Norfolk, Va., Travis Martin of Middleburg, Alicia Martin of Sunbury, Brittany Martin, Middleburg, Rachel Eisenman of Mt. Pleasant Mills, Amber and Ethan Martin, and Derrick and Dillon Martin, all of Mt. Pleasant Mills, and Chase and Allen Martin of Selinsgrove; a foster great-grandson, Ethan Comp; a stepgreat-grandson, Michael Ettinger of Sunbury; a sister, Ada M. Baker of Carlisle; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Kitner and Jean Kitner.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy C., Paul S., Stanley C. and Norman W. Kitner; a sister, Ruth V. Rice; a brother-in-law, Harry Baker, who died Nov. 9, 2003, and a sister-in-law, Janet M. Kitner, who died Oct. 26, 2004.

A service was held Nov. 24 in the Church of Christ in Christian Union, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR 1, with the Rev. Daryl M. Kuhns officiating and the Revs. Nathan Shaffer and Phillip Brenizer assisting. Burial was in Wright’s Presbyterian Cemetery, Millerstown RR 1.

Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, handled arrangements.

CODY R. YOHN
Cody Robert Yohn, 13, of Millerstown died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born Dec. 28, 1990 in Harrisburg Hospital to Robert E. and Cheryl A. Seachrist Yohn.

He was an eighth-grader at Greenwood Middle School, where he was a distinguished honor roll student and student council vice president.

He attended New Harvest Brethren in Christ Church, Millerstown, where he helped with children’s programs and assisted his parents with hospitality and cleanup. He also had attended Central Baptist Church, under the direction of Rev. Robert Meyer, and participated in its A.W.A.N.A. (Approved Workers Are Not Ashamed) program. He also participated in Central Pennsylvania Youth Ministries under the direction of Shirey Little and Josh Kauffman.

He played baseball, soccer, football and basketball and was on the undefeated 2003 East Juniata Little Tigers, which went 8-0 and won the Midget Super Bowl. He played on the 2003 McAlisterville SlugFest baseball team and participated in East Coast tournaments. He played on the Juniata Valley Jazz AAU basketball team and was a member of the undefeated 7th grade Greenwood basketball team. He currently was on the U-14 indoor soccer team.

In addition to his parents, surviving are a brother, Derek J., at home; his maternal grandfather, Miles Seachrist Jr. of Harrisburg; paternal grandmother, Lenore M. Yohn of Millerstown; aunts, Karole Aldridge of Harrisburg, Brenda Lesher of Duncannon, Linda Treaster of Millerstown, Brenda Bubb of Millerstown and Belinda Schory of Dauphin; uncles, Miles Seachrist III of Millerstown, David Seachrist of Dauphin, Bill Seachrist of Harrisburg, Kenneth Yohn of Mechanicsburg and William Yohn of Harrisburg; and cousins, Jeremy, Joel, Tierney, Andrea, Jessica, Jacob, Billy, Danny, Michelle, Corey, Jeff, Tara, Justin, Jared, Madison, Lindsay and Kyler.

Services were held Nov. 17 in Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown, with pastors Warren Peachey and Edward Baugh officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.

MARY R. PENNACCHIO
Mary R. Pennacchio, 90, of Hampden Twp., Camp Hill, formerly of Boston, where she had lived for 56 years, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was born June 22, 1914 in Harrisburg to the late George and Lillian (Spicuzza) Boova.

She attended Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Camp Hill.

She was the widow of Joseph A. Pennacchio.

Surviving are three sons, Michael G. of Incline Village, Nev., Joseph A. Jr. of Prescott, Ariz., and George M. of Camp Hill; a daughter, Lillian “Dolly” Conant of Center Ossipee, N.H.; a brother, Augustus Boova of Newport; a sister, Josephine Shearer of Camp Hill; and three grandchildren, Melissa, Michael and Courtney Pennacchio.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Boova, and a sister, Margaret Sheaffer.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Nov. 24, in Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Camp Hill. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

KARL KOONS
Karl Koons, 57, of New Bloomfield died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 18, 1947 at Harrisburg to the late Karl Jr. and Catherine E. (Cox) Koons.

He recently retired as maintenance supervisor from Perry Manor, Newport, and was a journeyman carpenter and member of Carpenter’s Local 287; a graduate of John Harris High School; a member of New Bloomfield Sportsmen’s Club, United Bassmasters of Central Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, Owls Club, Newport, and Perry Manor Bowling League; and an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting.

Surviving are his wife, Jo Anne Shorkey Koons; two daughters, Kristen Barrick of Duncannon and Laurie Lachimia of York, S.C.; a sister, Sue Hartman of Camp Hill; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Nov. 23 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Alan Foor officiating.

NORMAN R. TATE
Norman R. Tate, 63, of Newport Road, Newport, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004 at Harrisburg Hospital.

He was born March 26, 1941 in Lewistown to the late George Fred Sr. and Pearl (Miller) Tate.

He was an engineer with Phoenix Contact, Middletown; and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Siglerville, and Loyal Order of the Moose, Lewistown.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Mary A. Weland Tate; two daughters, Amy Lesher and Deanna Rupp, both of New Bloomfield; three sisters, Barbara Lilley, Jane C. Tate and Sharon L. McAteer, all of Yeagertown; and four grandchildren, Joshua and Tarryn Lesher, and Cody and Cheyenne Rupp.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, George F. Jr., Leonard E. and Alvin Tate; and a sister, Mary L. Page.

A service was held Nov. 20 in Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Miriam Nicholson officiating. Burial was in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham.

ERNEST V. HARTZ
Ernest V. Hartz, 86, of Duncannon died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004 at home.

He was born July 21, 1918 in Duncannon to the late Frederick and Emma (Lukens) Hartz.

He was retired from Environmental Resources, Pennsylvania State Government; an Army veteran of World War II; and a member and past commander of American Legion Post 340 and a member of VFW Post 255, Duncannon Fire Company and Duncannon High School Alumni Association.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jean Raub Hartz; two sons, Roy E. of Columbia, S.C., and John E. of Scottsville, Ky.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Nov. 16 in Union Cemetery, Duncannon, with the Rev. John Emig officiating.
