ALICE M. STRAWSER
Alice Marie Strawser, 75, of Millerstown RR 2 died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000 in Lewistown Hospital.
She was born Aug. 19, 1925 in Juniata County to the late Frances (Burkheiser) Strawser-Nace.
She formerly was employed at the Richfield and Liverpool shirt factories and Nipple Convalescent Home, Liverpool, and the Zendt Home, Richfield; attended Church of the Open Door, Richfield RR 1; and enjoyed canning and reading the Bible.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Sherman Lester Strawser; a son, Earl M. of Millerstown; two daughters, Ellen P. Carvell of Richfield RR 1 and Wannetta K. Leonard of Honey Grove; two half-brothers, Donald Nace of Lewistown and Glenn Nace of Richfield RR 1; five half-sisters, Anna Mae Duke and Ethel Zeiders, both of Mifflintown, Ella Goodling of Richfield RR 1, Kathryn Mull of Selinsgrove and Dorothy Cramer of Carlisle; a foster sister, Mary Bitterman of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her foster parents, Ralph and Sadie Witmer, and a half-brother, John Strawser.
Services were held Sept. 7 the Church of the Open Door with pastor Joseph R. Heeg officiating. Burial was in Neimond's Cemetery, Richfield RR 1.
Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, handled arrangements.

ALEX N. STANCAVAGE
Alex N. Stancavage, 80, of Holly Drive, Dauphin, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000 in Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.
He was born May 10, 1919 in Ashley, Luzerne County, to the late John and Mary A. Stancavage.
He retired from the Defense Logistics Agency, Mechanicsburg; was an Army veteran of World War II and Purple Heart recipient; a member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, Dauphin, and VFW Post 283, Kingston; and enjoyed bowling and golf.
Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Kraft Stancavage; and six sisters, Stella Tarnoski and Natalie Cooper, both of New Jersey, Mary Stacey of New York, Pauline Novitski and Celia Ogdin, both of Connecticut, and Irene Rasmus of Nanticoke.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 31 in his church with Father Edward Quinlan officiating.
Burial was Feb. 1 in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Shavertown, Luzerne County.
Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to his church, Allegheny Street, Dauphin 17018.

A. RUTH SMITH
A. Ruth Smith, 83, of N. River Road, Halifax, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000 in Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.
She was born Sept. 6, 1917 in New Bloomfield to the late Frank and Pearl (Shatto) Fetterhoff.
She retired from the state Department of Labor and Industry.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth E. Smith Sr.; a son, Kenneth E. Jr. of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Virginia Mullen of Greencastle; two sisters, Helen Kuntz of New Cumberland and Marie Snyder of Landisburg; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 24 in Boyer Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Anthony C. Hill officiating.

BRENDA L. SHELTRON
Brenda L. Sheltron, 38, of East Waterford died Friday, March 17, 2000 at home.
She was born June 13, 1961 in Lewistown to Norman B. and Anita Richardson Thatcher of East Waterford.
She was active in the deaf community and interpreted for numerous organizations and functions including Mexico United Methodist Church and Mount Union Elementary School; was a 1979 graduate of Juniata High School, Mifflintown; was a member of Pennsylvania Association of Registered Interpreters for the Deaf; and a former member of the advisory board for the Center for Independent Living, Camp Hill.
In addition to her parents, surviving are her husband, David E. Shetron; two sons, David A. and Jason K., both at home; her maternal grandmother, Nellie Fogleman of East Waterford; and a sister, Gloria Ann Thatcher of Middletown.
She was preceded in death by two infant children, John C. Thatcher and Diana Erin Shetron, and a sister, Carolyn Sue Thatcher.
Services were held March 20 in South Juniata Baptist Church, Honey Grove RR 1, with pastor Dennis R. Thompson Jr. officiating. Burial was in East Waterford Cemetery.
Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, handled arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, 500 Swissvale Ave., Pittsburgh 15218-1469.

CLARENCE D. SWENSON
Clarence David Swenson, 77, of Colorado Avenue, Colonial Park, died Friday, March 24, 2000 in Blue Ridge Haven Convalescent Center, Harrisburg.
He was born July 14, 1922 in Harrisburg to the late John W. and Verda (Julius) Swenson.
He retired from Railway Express and was a member of Rockville United Methodist Church, Harrisburg.
He was the widower of Genet Sellers Swenson.
Surviving are a brother, Herman H. Swenson of Harrisburg; and three sisters, Alma Winfindale of Middletown, Wilna Sanders of Duncannon and Carol Young of Harrisburg.
Graveside services were held March 29 in East Harrisburg Cemetery with the Rev. Carola Bealsey-Topliffe officiating.
Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.

CLYDE E. SPOTTS
Clyde E. Spotts, 91, formerly of Little Buffalo Road, Newport RR 5, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000 in the Camp Hill Care Center.
He was born Sept. 10, 1909 in Landisburg to the late Lowery and Rose Violet (Morrison) Spotts.
He retired from General Crushed Stone Quarry; a member of the Trappers Association; and enjoyed hunting and trapping.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Freet Spotts; a son, James; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Clarence E. Spotts.
Graveside services were held Sept. 13 in Newport Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Case officiating.
Myers Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.

CHESTER L. SCHRADER
Chester Lee "Chet" Schrader, 36, of Richfield RR 2 died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000 in Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born June 16, 1964 in Sunbury to Joanne C. Longacre Schrader of Richfield RR 2 and the late James Robert Schrader, who died in 1990.
He was a Protestant and enjoyed car rides and playing dominos.
In addition to his mother, surviving are three brothers, James R. of Selinsgrove RR 1 and Steven C. and Michael A., both of Millerstown RR 1; and three sisters, Rosetta J. Shellenberger of Lewistown, Emma L. Beers of Richfield RR 2 and Patricia A. Yetter of Liverpool RR 1.
Services were held Sept. 9 in Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, with pastor Warren L. Peachey officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery, Millerstown RR 2.

CATHERINE T. SMITH
Catherine T. Napoli Smith, 77, of Marysville, formerly of Harrisburg, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 in Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.
She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church, Marysville.
She was the widow of Hunter M. Smith.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon A. Magaro of Enola; two brothers, Frank Napoli and Ernest Napoli, both of Harrisburg; two sisters, Carmela Kufner of Harrisburg and Louise Mezell of Steelton; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 12 in her church. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, West Hanover Twp.
Neill Funeral Home, Camp Hill, handled arrangements.

CHARLES T. SOWERS
Charles T. Sowers, 70, of Millerstown RR 1 died Monday, March 6, 2000 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
He was born Sept. 28, 1929 in Millerstown to the late Allen G. and Miriam (Ditzler) Sowers.
He retired from the former Conrail; was an Army veteran of the Korean War; and a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, Florence Gordon Sowers; a son, Robert L. of Millerstown; a daughter, Kathy E. at home; a sister, Janet of Millerstown; and a granddaughter.
Services were held March 10 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Revs. Peter H. Keubler and Paul Case officiating. Burial was in St. Matthew Lutheran Church Cemetery.

DAVID G.F. SHEIBLEY
David G.F. Sheibley, 81, of Huntersville, W.Va., died Monday, Aug. 14 at Allegheny Regional Hospital, Low Moor, Va.
He was born Feb. 7, 1919 at Newport to the late George and Mae (Freeland) Sheibley.
He had worked for Pocahontas County Board of Education, W.Va.; a former supervisor of rubber plantings for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Liberia, Africa; was co-owner of the Wildwood Tree Farm in Huntersville; an Army veteran of World War II; a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Marlinton, W.Va., Newport VFW Post 34, Newport American Legion Post 177, Alpha Gamma Rho and Alpha Zeta, and the Pocahontas County Association of Retired School Employees; and a life member of the 94th Infantry Division Association and The Perry Historians.
He was survived by a niece, Cynthia Ann Ludwig of Coatesville; a nephew, David Ludwig of Newport; and a business partner, Harry Hock.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Ludwig.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 30, in Newport Cemetery.
Myers Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
