PORT ROYAL — Loretta Reaves, 56, of R.R. 1, Port Royal, died at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at her residence.
She was born on April 22, 1951, in Quitman, Ga.
She was the daughter of the late Mary A. Rhym Reynolds. Her husband, Gilles Jean-Paul Chatel, whom she married on March 27, 2000, survives.
A memorial service will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Iskcon Farm Spruce Hill Township.

LEWISTOWN — Bella Diamond, 89, of Lewistown, formerly of Altoona, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at Lewistown Hospital.
She was born March 14, 1918, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Aaron and Rose (Lipenholtz) Muscott. Bella married Edward Diamond on Aug. 18, 1946, in Altoona. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1996.
She was a member of Ohev Sholom Synagogue and Hadassah in Lewistown. Bella was a school crossing guard in Lewistown for many years. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed. Surviving are a son, Joel Diamond and wife, Rachael, of Reedsville; grandchildren Jadan and Rebeccah; and a great-grandson Adam Edward.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Joe.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Agudath Achim Cemetery, officiated by Hazzan Michael Horwitz. Evelyn M. Price
LEWISTOWN — Evelyn M. Price, 87, of U.S. Hwy. 522 South, Lewistown, died at 4:55 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at the Golden Living Center-William Penn, Lewistown.
Born Feb. 25, 1920, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Rufus C. and Susan L. (Wittle) Cupp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Price, on Dec. 18, 1973.
She is survived by her children, Donald C. Price Jr. and his wife, Nancy, and John E. Price and his wife, Linda S., all of Lewistown; grandchildren, Donald C. Price III, Cynthia L. Barger, Timothy A. Price, Jeffrey E. Price, Holly A. Gardner and Tracy L. Peters; 13 great grandchildren; and a sister, Zelda Cunningham and her husband, John, Lewistown.
In addition to her late husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert C. Cupp and Rufus C. Cupp Jr., and a sister, Isabelle Heimbaugh.
She was employed in production at the Arrow Shirt Factory in Lewistown for 27 years, retiring in 1982. She also was the secretary of the Garment Workers Union No. 385, Lewistown, for 20 years.
Her funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Richard Bender officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home Friday.

Esther M. Flood
MIFFLINTOWN — Esther M. Flood, 90, of East Waterford, died on Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at Locust Grove Retirement Village near Mifflintown.
Born on June 2, 1917, in Lack Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Lilly Brandt Naugle. She was the widow of Ellis “Skip” W. Flood, who died in 1991.
Esther was a housewife and homemaker. She is survived by three children, Edith McClure and husband, Paul, of East Waterford, Pauline Rotay and husband, Ralph, of Norristown, and Clarence Flood and wife, Nancy, of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; one sister, Elizabeth Naugle Behel, of East Waterford; one brother, Richard Naugle, wife, Helen, of Honey Grove; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dervin Flood, one sister, Mable Naugle, and one brother, Harvey “Bub” Naugle.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, in the Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main St., Dry Run. The Rev. Karen P. Willis and Rev. Alice Melloy are officiating. Interment will follow in McCullough’s Mills Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Samuel H. Bender
LEWISTOWN — Samuel H. Bender, 78, of state Route 103 North, Lewistown, and formerly of McVeytown, died at 12:29 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, in his home.
He was born Sept. 5, 1929, near Belleville. He was a son of Iddo and Jemima (Peachey) Bender. His wife, Sadie A. (Yoder) Bender, whom he married Oct. 29, 1950, preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2005.
Surviving are: nine daughters and four sons, Jemima (Mrs. Tobe Peachey), Belleville, Amos and wife, Wanda, Tavares, Fla., Amanda, Moundridge, Kan., Susie, Lewistown, Katie (Mrs. Kenneth Copp), Rich Hill, Mo., Ada (Mrs. Mark Miller), St. Thomas, Lizzie (Mrs. Lloyd Wise), Stephensport, Ky., Iddo, Lewistown, Sarah (Mrs. Michael Tovar), McVeytown, Enoch and wife, Regina, McVeytown, Salome (Mrs. Samuel Detweiler), McVeytown, David, McVeytown, Lena, presently at Farmington, N.M.; two brothers, Simon, Fountain Run, Ky., Jonas, Mifflinburg; two sisters, Susie and Amelia Bender, both of Belleville; 31 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and William.
He was a farmer and delivered eggs in the McVeytown area for many years.
He was a member of the Living Springs Mennonite Church in McVeytown.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at Living Springs Mennonite Church, with Sylvan Yoder officiating.
Interment will be in Gospel Light Cemetery, McVeytown, beside his wife.

Floyd T. Hartzler Sr.
LEWISTOWN — Floyd T. Hartzler Sr., 77, of 310 S. Grand St., Lewistown, died at 5:25 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at his residence.
Born April 20, 1930, in Belleville, he was the son of Ezra Jacob Hartzler and Cora Mae (Yoder) Hartzler.His wife, Alma A. (Mowery) Hartzler, whom he married Sept. 13, 1948, who survives.
Also surviving are: seven children, Carol Jean Pollitt and husband, Peter, Allentown, Floyd T. Hartzler Jr. and wife, Marian L., Belleville, Marlin Marie Middlesworth and husband, Gerald R., Reedsville, James David Hartzler and wife, Mary L., Strodes Mills, Robert Scott Hartzler and wife, Susan K., Poe Valley, Teresa K. Dupert and husband, Michael D., Lebanon, and Jeffrey L. Hartzler and wife, Cheryl L., Reedsville; brothers and sisters, Mollie Peachey, Belleville, Sarah C. Hartzler, Belleville, Anna Mary Renno, Belleville, Ruth Glick, Richmond, Va., and Robert L. Hartzler, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; and 14 grandchildren.
He retired from New Holland.
He was a member of the Big Valley Bible Church in Reedsville, and was an avid hunter.
His service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Big Valley Bible Church, 6 N. Main St., Reedsville, with Pastors James D. Hartzler and Jeffrey L. Hartzler officiating. Interment will be at Lind Memorial Cemetery in Lewistown.
The viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the church.

PORT ROYAL — Irene E. Beaver, 67, of R.R. 2 Box 1070, Port Royal, died at 10:50 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC67, Mifflin.
Born Dec. 12, 1939, in Stormstown, she was the daughter of the late Harold A. Bickle and Dessie M. (Frantz) Bickle. Her husband, Jesse T. Beaver Jr., whom she married Sept. 27, 1958, survives.
Also surviving are: two daughters and a son, Mrs. Douglas (Cathy) O’ Donnell, of R.R. 2, Port Royal, Mrs. Craig (Bonnie) Book, of Port Royal, and Ryan Beaver, of Port Royal; two brothers and three sisters, Robert Bickle, of Zion, Gerald Bickle, of La Josa, Mrs. Ralph (Janet) Moyer, of Bellefonte, Mrs. Kevin (Jackie) Jury, of Spring Mills, and Mrs. Randy (Cindy) Shawley, of Julian; two grandchildren, Kevin O’ Donnell and wife, Lacey, and Alicia O’ Donnell; two great-grandchildren, Syvilla and Melanie O’ Donnell.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas Robert O’ Donnell Jr., and two sisters, Jean Woodring and Nancy Kibe.
She was a member of the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church in Academia.
She had worked for Empire Kosher Poultry Inc. in Mifflintown, and, later, she operated a day care center in her home. She was last employed as a nurse’s aid at Brookline Manor in Mifflintown.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church in Academia, with Rev. D. D. Wheat officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Rex Funeral Home, 308 Market St., Port Royal.

Harvey W. Kuhns
REEDSVILLE — Harvey W. Kuhns, 74, of Back Mountain Road, Reedsville, died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born April 20, 1933, in Reedsville, he was the son of the late George and Margaret Laub Kuhns. His wife, Lois McClenahan, survives.
Also surviving is a son, Robert McClenahan, of Mass., and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Kuhns.
He was a member of the Maitland Church of the Brethren and Potters Mills VFW.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Barr Funeral Home Inc., 120 Logan St., with Rev. Charles Eldridge officiating. Interment will be at Maitland Cemetery.

Ray S. Earnest Jr.
EAST WATERFORD — Ray S. Earnest, Jr., 88, of East Waterford, died Nov. 11, 2007, at his home in Perry County.
He is survived by his wife Betty J. (Shives) Earnest, whom he married on Oct. 22, 1941.
Born July 14, 1919, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Ray S. Sr. and Matilda Mae (Laird) Earnest.
Mr. Earnest was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in World War II, and a member of the 771st Tank Battalion Association of World War II.
He was employed as an equipment operator engineer with the IUOE Local 542 Harrisburg. He was a life member of the Crawford-Brubaker Post 5863 VFW in Mifflintown.
Mr. Earnest was an avid outdoorsman, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Those who are surviving, in addition to his wife, include, a son, Ray S. III and wife, Brenda Earnest, of East Waterford; nine daughters: Shirley and husband, Maurice Younker, of Mercersburg, Sharon and husband, Michael Reisher, of East Waterford, Linda and husband, Joseph Reisher, of East Waterford, Sheila and husband, Craig Moore, of Monterey, Tenn., Lucinda North, of Chambersburg, Sandra and husband, Paul Drolsbaugh, of Honey Grove, Ruth and husband, Ray Henry, of East Waterford, Shawnee and husband, George White, of East Waterford, and Reba and husband, Paul Arnold, of Shermansdale; 24 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one step-great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Leslie White; three sisters; and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in South Baptist Church, R.R. 1, Honey Grove. Pastor Dennis Thompson will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in the Earnest Family Cemetery, East Waterford.

Ruth E. ‘Ruthie’ Bryson
HUNTINGDON — Ruth E. ‘Ruthie’ Bryson, 79, of 1010 Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon, died at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Aug. 29 1928, in Albemarle, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Grady Lee and Lomie Lucille (Fink) Brooks. Her husband, Herbert W. Bryson, preceded her in death on March 8, 1990.
She is survived by her children, Maureen L. Belum and husband, Jerry, of Monroeville, N.J., Barbara A. Sheppard, of Studio City, Calif., and Diane E. Ferraro and husband, Richard, of Revere, Mass.; grandchildren, Jerry Belum Jr., of Clementon, N.J., Jeffery Belum, of Bridgeton, N.J., and Lee Miller, of McVeytown, and a sister, Mildred Shankle, of Albemarle, N.C.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Little and Emma Palmer, and by two brothers, Joseph Brooks and Grady Brooks.
She attended the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church.
She was also a member of the Thousand Hills Hiking Club, Friends of the Library, J.C. Blair Hospital Auxiliary, Standing Stone Senior Citizens, Standing Stone Garden Club and Meals on Wheels, all in Huntingdon. She also was a volunteer for the J.C. Blair Hospital for over 20 years.
She was a homemaker.
Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home in Huntingdon, with Rev. Fred E. Hickok officiating. Interment will be held in Riverview Cemetery in Huntingdon.
