M. Frances Watson

AMBLER - M. She was the wife of Wayne C. Watson and they observed their 49th wedding anniversary in Sept.
Born Feb. 14, 1929, in Ryde, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel C. and Della (Casner) Moist and graduated from the former Oliver McVeytown High School. She received a BS in Music Education from West Chester University in 1950 and continued her education doing graduate studies at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N.J.
After graduation she taught music at Wallingford Elementary School, and for more than twenty years she operated the Biwood Voice Studio out of her home where she taught voice lessons, extending her appreciation of music to her students whom she loved.
An active, long time member of Pleasantville United Church of Christ, Mrs. Watson served on many church committees, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the choir.
During the 1970s she sang in the Act IV Musical, performing shows for retirement centers, reunions, service clubs and churches, including “Wonderful World of Musical Comedy,” “Fabulous Fifteen Years,” “Love Makes the World Go Around,” “Victorian Song Book”. In addition, when studying with Elaine Brown at Temple University, she sang with the Singing City Choir. She was also a soloist at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Whitemarsh for five years.
She and her husband were members of the North Penn Model A Club, the Antique Automobile Club of America, both in the Delaware Valley region and Peace River region in Punta Gorda, Fla. Together they attended many car tours throughout the United States.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children: David Watson and his wife, Paulette of Huntington, Conn., Elaine Pappas and her husband John, of Punta Gorda Fla., and Paul Watson and his wife Vivian of Brimfield, Mass. and their children, Alexander, age 6 and Zoe, age 3.
Mrs. Watson was anxiously anticipating the birth of Paul and Vivian’s third child. Also surviving are a brother, Dr. Ken Moist and his wife, Eileen of Franklinville, N.Y., and a sister, Thelma Lamont and her husband, Walter, of Holland, Pa. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Service of Remembrance, Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. in Pleasantville U.C.C., 3424 Limekiln Pike, Chalfont, PA 18914. Interment will be in the adjoining Cemetery.
The family will greet friends at the church Friday, between 7 and 9 p.m., and on Saturday, from 10 to 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the M. Frances Watson Memorial Music Fund at Pleasantville U.C.C., at the above address.

Harvey C. Maben

Born Feb. 7, 1923, in Milroy, he was a son of John Charles and Margaret Mae (Johnson) Maben.
He is survived by: son, Steve K. Maben, Reedsville; brothers, Earl G. Maben, McClure, Charles L. Maben, Lewistown and Samuel C. Maben, Reedsville; and sister, Mrs. (Howard) Anna M. Fultz, Milroy.

He was a member of: the Free & Accepted Mason Lodge 203, Lewistown; Juniata Valley Forest 88 Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Harrisburg Consistory; St. Johns Lutheran Church, Lewistown; Jaffa Shrine, Altoona; and the Reedsville Volunteer Fire Co.
The funeral service will be private, though friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville.

Evelyn L. Markley

EAST HAVEN, Conn. - Evelyn L. Markley, 92, of East Haven, Conn and a former resident of Lewistown, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 at St. Rapheal Hospital, New Haven, Conn.
Born Nov. 29, 1911, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late C. Fern Markley, Maude E. (Rhine) Markley and step-father, Samuel H. Weiler.
Surviving are; a niece, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Yuen, Pearl City, Hawaii; a cousin, Miss Betty Walker, of S. Pine St., Lewistown.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at St. Marks Episcopal Cemetery, Lewistown.
Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert T. Esdale

MILLERSTOWN - Robert T. Esdale, 70, of Millerstown, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004 at his home in Millerstown.
Born Sept. 25, 1934, in Philadelphia, he was the son of Dorothy (Rangnow) Esdale and the late Thomas W. Esdale. His wife, Dorothy R. Esdale survives.
Also surviving are: three daugher, Lynn Varner, McAlisterville, Nancy Monk, Millerstown, and Robin Price, Colo; a sister, Jane Black, N.J.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. from the Millerstown United Methodist Church.

Arlene S. Haldeman

Born Nov. 9, 1924, in Palmyra, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Shirk Raymond and Mary Amanda (Werner) Schaeffer. Her husband, Henry S. Haldeman, she married on June 25, 1949, survives.
Also surviving are: two children, Harold E. Haldeman, Mechanicsburg, and Dale A. Haldeman, Port Royal; a brother, Kenneth Schaeffer, Palmyra, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

A viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday, at the Rex Funeral Home.

Nina B. Shafer

Born June 5, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Melvin Wharton. Her mother Mary (Sheets) Wharton, of Shirleysburg and her companion, Tom Bellanto of State College, survive her.
Also surviving are children Mark W. Shafer and wife Kimberly A. of Litchfield, N.H., Mary A. Shafer of 9143 Easton Rd., Ferndale, Pa., and Rebecca A. Valentine of Windsor, Co.; siblings Donald H. Wharton and wife Genevieve of Mapleton Depot, Kenneth (Tom) Wharton and wife Barbara of Shirleysburg, and Helen W. Benner of Burnham; grandchildren, Brittany, Caitlyn and Taylor Shafer, Max and E. Tucker Valentine, Tavia and Isabella Godfrey.

She was an office manager at Mid Penn Legal Services, Lewistown and was also a seamstress.
She really loved animals. She was a big supporter and very proud of EMS and fire companies. She and Tom loved to dance.
Her memorial service will he held at 11 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 14. at the USWA Local 1940 Union Hall, loctaed at 519 Electric Avenue in Lewistown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: United Fire Co., West Third Street, Lewistown 17044 or to the SPCA, RD1, Centre Hall, PA 16828.

Ray ‘Shorty’ Marlin Yetter
CENTRE HALL - Ray “Shorty” Marlin Yetter, 65, of rural Centre Hall, formerly of Center and Thompsontown, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College.
Ray was born January 22, 1939, in Centre, a son of the late Frank and Kathryn Yetter.
On March 7, 1970, he married Patricia Anne Casher Yetter who survives at home. Shorty was a 1958 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown. Early in life he was employed by Empire Kosher Poultry in Mifflintown and later went to work at Keystone Railway Equipment Co. in Camp Hill, retiring after 36 years of service.
As a young person, Mr. Yetter was a member of Centre Lutheran Church, and later a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Mifflintown. After moving to Centre Hall, he became a member of Madisonbug United Methodist Church where he served on the board of trustees and helped to deliver meals, prepared by women of the church, to persons within the community. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, cars, electric trains, and hunting.
In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by two daughters, Wendy S. Himes and her husband Paul of Brockport, and Deanna M. Yetter of Bloomfield, N.J.; two sons, Steven Ray Yetter of North Holden, N.J. and Michael John Yetter and his wife Heather of Thompsontown; five sisters, Mae Grissinger of Locust Run, Violet Louise Bollen of New Cumberland, Fae Snyder of Camp Hill, Kathleen Fraley of Linglestown, and Mary Arlene Wirt of Oden, Md.; two brothers, Richard E. Yetter of Mifflintown R. D. 2 and Albert W. Yetter of Mifflin; and four grandchildren, Jake Michael Himes, Brett Andrew Himes, Makenna Jo Yetter and Gabrielle Elizabeth Yetter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">death by two brothers, Walter Pete Yetter and James Andrew Yetter.

H. Lewis Rodgers Sr.

He was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Lewistown, to the late Maurice Rodgers and Frances White Rodgers Showers.
He is survived by his wife Daryl Helen Berryman whom he married in 1941.

Early in life he worked at Standard Steel Burnham and was District Service Representative for Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Philadelphia. He retired from the U.S. Post Office as a clerk with 32 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps pilot who flew over 30 missions over Germany as a B24 pilot, in the same squadron as Jimmy Stewart. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three oak clusters.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Lewistown, Elks Lodge 663, Second Air Force Assoc., and a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. There will be a private service at the convenience of the family with Rev. Robert Zorn officiating. Family will provide all flowers.
Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Lewistown, 17 E. Third St., 17044.

Emma B. King

Mary N. Lyter

Born Nov. 18, 1921 in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Walter P. and Mary A. (Noerr) Nolan. She is survived by her husband, Clyde M. Lyter, whom she married June 26, 1942.
The following children survive: Steven J. Lyter and wife Phillis of Lewistown and Mrs. Thomas (Peggy) Whiteman of Lewistown; four grandchildren and one great grandson.
A sister, Norene M. Donahey of Lewistown and James F. Nolan of Steelton. She was preceded in Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">death by a sister, Patricia Shehan.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Lake Park United Methodist Church.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 17 at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown with Rev. Mark Brower officiating.
Family will receive friends from noon until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
