Virginia M. Rentschler
HOLLIDAYSBURG - Virginia M. Rentschler, 80, of 1-B Linden St., Hollidaysburg, died Thursday evening, Nov. 13, 2003 at Altoona Hospital.
Born June 6, 1923 in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Robert P. and Clarina G. (Kieferle) Moyer. Her husband, John H. Rentschler, whom she married on Dec. 11, 1948 in Lewistown, preceded her in death on June 27, 1990.
Surviving is a nephew-in-law, Dr. Kent Rentschler, Carlisle.
She was a 1940 graduate of Lewistown High School and also attended Bucknell University. She graduated as an R.N. from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in Feb., 1947.
She had worked as a part-time nursing supervisor at Allegheny Lutheran Home and The Home Nursing Agency.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hollidaysburg, Altoona Council Navy League, Johns Hopkins Alumnae Association and Scotch Valley Country Club.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Mt. Rock Cemetery in Lewistown.
There will be no visitation.

James W. North Sr.
MILROY - James W. North Sr., 85, formerly of 1593B Lingle Valley Rd., Milroy, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
Born March 14, 1918, in Burnham, he was a son of the late James Edward and Lavinia (McVaugh) North. His wife, Mabel A. (Wagner) North, preceded him in death on March 6, 1989.
Surviving are: two children, Lucy J. Hackenberg, Richmond, VA, and James W. North Jr., Milroy; a brother, Harold North, Carlisle; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Glen North.
He was a graduate of Lewistown High School and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He worked as a pipefitter at Standard Steel, Burnham, retiring in 1979 with 34 years of service.
He was a member of Lewistown VFW Post No. 7011, Yeagertown Fire Company, Moose Lodge and Milroy American Legion.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Mount Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Bert Bowen officiating. Interment will be in Mount Rock Cemetery.
There will be no public viewing.

Melvin J. Yoder
BELLEVILLE - Melvin J. Yoder, 75, of 69 Grand St., Belleville, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at his home.
Born Sept. 3, 1928, in Reedsville, he was a son of the late David K. and Carrie (Yoder) Yoder. His wife, Betty L. (Kauffman) Yoder, whom he married on May 14, 1950, survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Jeffrey D. Yoder and wife, June, Mapleton Depot; a daughter, Luinda Grassmyer and husband, Michael, Belleville; a brother, Earl Yoder, and wife, Peggy, Belleville; two sisters, Shirley Power and husband, Ralph, Lewistown, and Darlis Strawser, and husband, Mervin, McAlisterville; five grandchildren, Fawne and Brittany Yoder, Kristen Sharp and husband, Troy, Kaylee Jo and Katrina Grassmyer; and a great-grandson, Logan Michael Sharp.
He was preceded in death by: a son, Rodney Lynn Yoder; a brother, Robert Yoder; and a sister, Emma Glick.
He worked at Abbotts Dairy, Belleville for 15 years and was self-employed as a truck driver before driving for C.D. Zimmerman.
He was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church, Belleville and loved bowling and watching Little League baseball and softball. He was also a Dale Earnhardt NASCAR fan.
His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Maple Grove Mennonite Church with the Rev. Alan Kauffman and the Rev. Erie Renno officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.
The viewing will be 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

MOUNT UNION - Donna J. Fortney, 68, of 25 Walnut St., Mount Union, died on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Hershey Medical Center.
Born Feb. 19, 1935, in Mapleton Depot, she was a daughter of Madeline (Ripple) Wakefield of Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon and the late Miles Bowser. Her husband, Robert C. "Humpy" Fortney Sr., whom she married on May 1, 1954, in McVeytown, survives at their home.
Also surviving are: two children, Robert C. Fortney Jr., Newton Hamilton, and Mrs. Kelvin (Roberta) Deavor, McVeytown; sisters, Charlotte Fletcher, Tyrone, Patsy Mellott, Frackville, and Kathleen Durbec, New Cumberland; a brother, Kenny Erb, RD McVeytown; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: a brother, Charles Erb; a step-brother, Dale Wakefield; and a grandson.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Church and the Newton-Wayne Firemen's Auxiliary.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Pastor Robert A. Brown Sr. officiating. Interment will be in the Newton Hamilton Cemetery.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral and until the hour of service Tuesday. The Newton-Wayne Fire Company will conduct at memorial service at 6:45 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Pauline H. O'Keefe
REEDSVILLE - Pauline H. O'Keefe, of Reedsville and formerly of Centre Hall, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at Select Specialty Hospital in Camp Hill.
Born Aug. 30, 1931, in Bellefonte, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Grace (Johnson) Harper. Her husband, Edward J. O'Keefe, preceded her in death on May 5, 1987.
Surviving are: a daughter, Linda O. Gilmore and husband, Dennis, Reedsville; a son, Raymond E. O'Keefe, McClure; a brother, Dean A. Harper, Wesley Chapel, Florida; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
She was a 1949 graduate of State College Area High School.
She was a school bus driver for the State College Area School District, retiring in 1993. She also farmed with her husband at their farm in Boalsburg.
She was a member of Reedsville Evangelical Lutheran Church, Victor Grange, Boalsburg and Rebakah Lodge, State College.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, with the Rev. Kenneth W. Longfield officiating. Interment will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

REEDSVILLE - Gail A. Barton, 60, of 45 Marlick Ave., Reedsville, died at 4:18 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at her residence.
Born Sept. 25, 1943, in Bloomsburg, she was a daughter of Melva F. (Knorr) Smith of Lewistown and the late Lee M. Smith. Her husband, Joseph S. Barton, whom she married Sept. 26, 1964, survives.
Also surviving are: three children, Mrs. Donald (Lori) Knepp, Carlisle, Jeffrey D. Barton and wife, Tammy, and Marc A. Barton and wife, Angel, all of Lewistown; a sister, Mrs. Larry (Betty) Ferrari, Piscataway, NJ; a brother, Gary Smith, Harrisburg; and a granddaughter, Victoria T. Barton.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
She was a homemaker and a member of Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witness, Lewistown.
Her funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Mr. Kurt L. McKinney Jr. officiating. Interment will be private in the Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.
The viewing will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Eleanor J. Ruble
MILROY - Eleanor J. Ruble, 79, of 59 Randall Drive, Milroy, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at her residence.
Born Aug. 19, 1924, in Trenton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late James P. Vandetti Sr. and the late Mildred Estella (Royer) Vandetti. Her husband, Robert R. Ruble, preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2000.
She is survived by her children, Connie J. Riden and Joyce R. Jimenez, both of Milroy; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James P. Vandetti Jr.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and knitting for many people.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Milroy.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family, with Pastor Douglas D. Sabin officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.
There will be no public viewing.

Nicholas T. ‘Dave’ Ferencz
BURNHAM - Nicholas T. “Dave” Ferencz, 79, of 300 N. Pine St., Burnham, died at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Brookline Manor, Mifflintown.
Born Dec. 15, 1923, in Burnham, he was a son of the late Mathew and Mary (Butry) Ferencz.
Surviving is a brother, Peter A. Ferencz, Lewistown.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank J. Ferencz and Dymetro D. Ferencz; a sister, Mary Ferencz Belella; four half-brothers Stephen H., John H., Charles H. and Michael H. Seby; and a half-sister, Anna M. Seby Walker.
He was a 1943 graduate of Burnham High School.
He was employed as a Union Bricklayer Local #13, Harrisburg for over 50 years.
He served with the U.S. Navy in the European Theatre of World War II and was part of the Normandy Invasion.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Yeagertown Fire Company, a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union Local, #13.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown with Rev. John Bateman officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham.
Graveside military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham. A scripture service will be held at 8:30 p.m.

RICHFIELD - Ivan D. Swartz Sr., 65, of Main Street, Richfield died at 12:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at the Sunbury Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 7, 1937, in Fayette Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Jacob Vernal and Esther Emma (Coldren) Swartz. His wife, Karen L. (Moad) Swartz, whom he married on Dec. 3, 1983, survives.

He was a 1956 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and was an avid hunter.
He was a retired conductor for Conrail, Enola and was a self-employed electrician, operating Swartz Electric.
He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, RR2 Richfield, Union Lodge No. 324 F&AM, Mifflintown, Juniata Valley Tall Cedars Forrest No. 88, Harrisburg Consistory, the United Transportation Union, Cleveland, OH, and the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Faith Lutheran Church with the Rev. Timothy W. Bingman officiating. Interment will be in the Faith Lutheran Cemetery, RR2 Richfield.
The viewing will be held 4-9 p.m. Friday at the McAlisterville Chapel of the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville with the family present 7-9 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
