Born August 29, 1930 in Mifflintown, he is the son of the late Charles H. and Mary Pearl (Naylor) Horning. His wife, Lorene D. (Varner) Horning, whom he married on August 1, 1953, survives.
Also surviving are children Tammy L. Casey and husband Michael, Millerstown, Troy D. Horning and wife Angela, Richfield and Tiffany Boone, Mifflintown; siblings Charles Horning, Lewistown, Mrs. Dale (Elizabeth) Kauffman, Mexico, Mrs. Robert (Sandra) Henry, Dauphin, Robert E. Horning and wife Nancy, Sellersville, Keith Horning, Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Amisha and Brandon Boone; and his father-in-law, Emory E. Varner, R.R. #1 Richfield.

He was a 1948 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1950.
After his service in the Navy, he was employed by the Naval Depot, Mechanicsburg, then he worked at Standard Steel, Burnham and he later retired with 30 years of service as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Richfield.
He was a member of the Richfield United Methodist Church, a past assistant to the scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #61, Richfield, past member of the Richfield Lions Club, member and driver for the Richfield Ambulance Company, and for his membership to the Harrisburg CLC Community Blood Bank, he was awarded a pin for being a Gallon Donor.
His hobbies included attending yard sales, watching football games and especially woodworking, where he enjoyed creating heirlooms for his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday from the Richfield United Methodist Church, with the Pastor Vernon E. Shenberger officiating. Interment will follow in the Richfield Union Cemetery, Richfield, where full military Burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Sunday at the McAlisterville Chapel of the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville with the family present 7-9 p.m.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to Gideon’s International Juniata Camp No. 3714.7, Box 91, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Rebekah L. Landis

LITITZ - Rebekah L. Allen D. Groff

MCVEYTOWN - Allen D. Born Nov. 6, 1987 in Mifflintown, he was a son of Roy G. and Agnes A. (King) Groff, Sr. of Ferguson Valley.
Also surviving are paternal grandparents Leon and Amy (Knauer) Groff of McVeytown; maternal grandparents Herbert and Dorothy (Peachey) King of Allensville; siblings Sarah M., R. Galen, Jr., Steven J., Warren E., Dean L., Leon E., Mervin D. and Suzette E., all at home.
He worked on his family’s farm.
He was a member of the Strodes Mills Mennonite Church, the youth Sunday school class and the youth chorus.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Living Springs Mennonite Church, Ridge Road, McVeytown R.D., with Ministers Foster King, Luke Martin, Daryl Yoder, Wesley King and Irvin Showalter officiating. Interment will be in Strodes Mills Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Friends may call 2-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Penn Valley Christian Retreat, 7980 Ferguson Valley Rd., McVeytown and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Strodes Mills Mennonite Church c/o Irvin Showalter, 20 Sandy Cliff Drive, McVeytown, PA 17051.

Louise M. Shoop

LEWISTOWN - Louise M. Darwin Shearer, RR1 East Waterford; two sisters, Miriam Love, East Waterford and Lois Wert; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Christian A. Waterman

Also surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Leo (Joan) Curry of E. Walnut St., Lewistown; a sister, Mary Crediford of Jersey Shore; grandchildren Ashley and Christian Curry and Laura Stimley; and a great-grandson, Lane Stimley.

He was a supervisor at Clinton Paper Company for 40 years.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Rev. Robert Zorn officiating. Interment will be in Dunnstown Cemetery, Lock Haven.

L. Jean Knepp

Born June 10, 1929 in Maitland, Derry Township, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Lester H. and Mae E. (Goss) Laub. Knepp, whom she married on Dec. 24, 1947.

Knepp, of Middleburg, Leon K. and Christine L. Knepp, RR1 Beaver Springs; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson; two sisters, Louella F. Ritter and Bonnie M. Jones, both of McClure, two brothers Erdnal D. “Ert” Laub, Milroy and Gerald L. “Beeze” Laub, McClure.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure, where she was very active in church activities planning meals, teaching Sunday School, sang in the choir, Bible School, on church council, call committee for the current pastor, Alter Guild, Adult Sunday School Class, helped make blankets for Lutheran World Relief, active in Thrivent Financial for Lutherans (formerly known as Lutheran Brotherhood), a charter member of the TLC Fund and chose its name.
In 1996, she retired from Kinny Shoe Corporation. She also worked at Cluett and Peabody, Standard Shirt Factory, and Kirby Manufacturing. She loved playing dominoes with family and friends.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the McClure Fire Company and enjoyed making potpie at the carnival and playing bingo.
Her funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure. Interment will be in the McClure Union Cemetery.
Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Monday at Aurand Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St, Beavertown, where the family will be present 7-9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the TLC Fund of Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure, PA 17841.

Donald R. Gibboney

Surviving are siblings Mrs. Jack (Pearl) Gilwick, Maryland, Mrs. Merrill (Hazel) Hafer, Reedsville and Betty E. Gibboney, Lewistown; and several nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed hunting and in later years woodworking.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main St., Reedsville with Pastor Richard J. Bender officiating. Interment will be in Madisonburg West Central Cemetery in Madisonburg.
Friends may call 1 p.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Joyce J. Devore

Gregg, Granville; siblings Carl Grace, Belleville, Karen Grace, Harrisburg and Durland Grace, New York City; six grandchildren, William C. Devore, Coral Burkholder, Patrick Burkholder, Kyla Burkholder, Derek Gregg and Oren Devore; and one great-granddaughter.

Sherry G. Barrett

Fisher, Lancaster, Mrs. Gary (Lucinda) Whistler, Carlisle, Lois Camp, Lewistown, Mrs. Marvin (Mary) Henry, McVeytown, M. Timothy Fisher, Mrs. William (Ruth) Varner, Mrs. Mark (Sarah) Hill, all of Lewistown, Mrs. David (Rebecca) Gerhart, Mountville, Daniel P. Fisher, Lewistown; and four grandchildren, Andrew C. Fisher, Ali Coppersmith, Madyson and Landon Forsythe.

He was a lifelong beekeeper, having earned master beekeeeper recognition in 1991, and was a partner in Fisher Honey Company, Lewistown and Fisher Bee Farms, McVeytown.
He was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, the American Beekeeping Federation, the Eastern Apicultural Society, the Pennsylvania State Beekeepers Association, the Central Counties Beekeepers Association, the 2 C’s & A Bee Association, the Florida State Beekeepers Association and the Tampa Bay Beekeepers Association.
He was an avid coin collector and Studebaker and Corvair enthusiast. He was also a blue ribbon winning baker and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He learned to speak German in preparation for a trip to Germany in 2001.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the Spring Run Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Jerry Lee Miller officiating.
