Robert Blase Koslosky Ph.D.

Robert Blase Koslosky Ph.D., 70, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Peg, and his family.

He was born on Feb. 3, 1933, in New Philadelphia, a son of the late Peter and Margaret (Cooper) Koslosky.

Dr. Koslosky received his B.S. and M.Ed. degrees in art education from Kutztown University. He received his Ph.D. in art education from Penn State University, in 1985. He was also a registered expressive art therapist.

Dr. Koslosky established the Allied Artists Association of Pottsville, where he served as a judge for many years. He was an art instructor at Blue Mountain and Pottsville Area High schools prior to becoming an art professor at Bloomsburg State College in 1970, where he taught many different classes. He will be most remembered for his highly popular and much loved Intro to Art class. While at Bloomsburg University, Dr. Koslosky was a distinguished scholar, a great master teacher and a recipient of many honors and awards. He was awarded the first Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Distinguished Teaching Chair, in 1975, and was named a Pacesetter in Art Education by the Pa. Art Education Association. He was also named a Compatriot in Education by Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society. He was a keynote speaker at various commencements and seminars, and served on numerous committees.

Dr. Koslosky was also an eminent art historian and expert in art therapy, having written several monographs on these subjects. He was especially interested in the autistic child, due to his experiences with his own "special" son, Tom. He was in the process of writing a book entitled "Mr. Tom."

He retired in 1995, after 25 years of service with Bloomsburg University. During his retirement, he enjoyed pursuing his artistic endeavors and spending time with his family and friends at his cottage on Fishing Creek. He served locally as a police sketch artist and hospice volunteer. One of his favorite post-retirement activities was serving as a volunteer art therapist with terminally ill patients at Geisinger Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret (Cunningham) Koslosky; seven children: Robert Jr. of Bloomsburg; Mary Margaret, wife of Lawrence Kubin of Oakton, Va.; Barbara, wife of Dr. Randall Rhodes of Belvidere, Ill.; Thomas of Bloomsburg; David, husband of Victoria, of Newtown Square; Patrice, wife of Dale Coombe Jr. of Bloomsburg; and Andrew, husband of Tara, of Bloomsburg; 13 grandchildren: Jared, Kyle and Cailyn Kubin; Jason, Ryan and Tessa Rhodes; John David Koslosky, Dale "DJ", Daniel, Jacob, Cassandra and Dominic Coombe and Ethan Koslosky; a sister, Patricia Herrity of Bloomsburg; and a brother, Paul Allan Koslosky of English Center. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and greatly missed by his friends.

In celebration of his life, friends will be received Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a wake service at 8 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Bloomsburg. A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Columba Catholic Church with the Rev. Chet Snyder and the Rev. Patrick A. Devine as celebrants. Burial will be in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Columbia-Montour Home Hospice, 599 E. 7th St., Bloomsburg.

John G. Thomas

John G. Thomas, 85, of Furnace Street, Shickshinny, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">died Tuesday morning, Dec. 2, 2003, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Jan. 12, 1918 in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a son of the late Walter and Elizabeth Curwood Thomas.

He graduated from the former Shickshinny High School, and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was first employed by the former A&P store in Shickshinny, then for the former First National Bank of Shickshinny, and was last employed as a field auditor for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry for 23 years.

Mr. Thomas was a member and served as an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Shickshinny. He was a member of the VFW Post and American Legion Post, both of Shickshinny. He was a member of Sylvania Lodge 354 of Shickshinny, Caldwell Consistory of Bloomsburg, and Irem Temple of Wilkes-Barre, where he was a member and former secretary of the Irem Temple Chanters.

Surviving are his wife, the former Edith E. Killian, whom he married on March 27, 1938; a son, Kevin Thomas of Berwick; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Karen) Capwell of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Gary (Shirley) Thomas of Moultrie, Ga.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at 2 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church of Shickshinny, with the Rev. James Parks officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Shickshinny. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners' Hospitals for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19140. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny.

Jacob J. Trivelpiece

Jacob J. Jacob had just celebrated his birthday as he was born on Nov. 17, 1985. He was a son of Joseph H. and Debra Slusser Trivelpiece, with whom he lived. He had been a student at Berwick Area High School.

He was employed at Laubach's Gas Station and Sitler Construction, and was presently employed at his brother's business, Avoid The Hassel.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved animals and was an accomplished artist.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Joseph J. and wife, Kristen, and their two daughters, Regen and Maddison Trivelpiece of Berwick; his sister, Rachel E. Trivelpiece, at home; paternal grandparents, Curtiss and Joyce Trivelpiece of Berwick; paternal great-grandmother, Flora Freas of rural Berwick; maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Shirley and Carl Plock of Orangeville; maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Richard and Junita Slusser of Mifflinville; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, from the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick, with the Rev. George R. Bryson, pastor of Berwick Bible Church, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

Leona Florence Kyttle

Her husband, Edward, preceded her in death, as did a daughter, Arlene, and two grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter, Charlotte Atkinson, Shickshinny; three sons: Carl and Garnett, both of Shickshinny; and Edward of Bloomsburg; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Crane of Laceyville.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Wednesday from the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, with the Rev. Karen W. Atanasoff officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Hill Cemetery, Sweet Valley.

Mr. Lutz was a veteran, serving in the military from 1947 to 1956 as a radio operator during the Berlin Airlift.

Survivors include his wife, the former Agnes Loewen, whom he married March 3, 1959; two sons, Mark and Randy Lutz, both of Ephrata; and a daughter, Linda Madison, Gold Bar, Wash.; three sisters: Jean Augustine, Buffalo, N.Y.; Irma Wilson and Evelyn Rychlenske, both of Taylor, Mich.; two brothers, Ralph Lutz, Glen Lyon; and Edgar Lutz, Berwick; and seven grandchildren.

Grace I. Kirk

Her brother Clyde Kearkuff preceded her in death. She had four grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and a niece, Cara (Kearkuff) Apgar. Enid M. Recla

Woman enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles

Enid M. Recla, 83, of 1013A Pine St., Berwick, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 2, 2003, at the home of her daughter, with her family at her side. She had been in failing health for several months.

Born June 14, 1920, in Nuremberg, Schuylkill County, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Sarah A. Hopkins Nicolodi.

She graduated at the top of her class from the former Rock Glen High School and was also at the top of her class when she graduated from McCann's Business College.

Mrs. Recla worked in the cafeteria at Berwick School District and in the office at Berwick Weaving, retiring in the early 1980s.

She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she was very active in the Bible study groups, helped publish the church newsletters and taught Sunday school for the youth for many years. She was also a former member of the Berwick Moose. She enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles.

Springs, Colo. Lawrence Recla Jr. is married to Sharri. The couple has one daughter, Katelyn Recla, also of Colorado Springs.

Mrs. Recla is also survived by one daughter, Cathie Chupka, who, with her husband Paul of Mifflinville, has two daughters of her own. The first, Nichole Reeder of Danville, is married to Josh and has a daughter, Calla, also of Danville. The second is Sarah Chupka, a student at Wilkes University.

Funeral services for Mrs. Recla will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1600 Fowler Ave., Berwick, with the Rev. John R. Koons, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Nuremberg Cemetery, Schuylkill County. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick, and on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Francis J. Born in Hetlerville, July 27, 1902, he was a son of the late Hiram Miller and Polly E. (Andreas) Miller.

In his youth, he hauled milk for 11 years. He also worked at the AC&F for a year and the Multiplex for 11 years. Mr. Miller later worked at the Berwick Golf Club, where he was greenskeeper for eight of his 33 years of employment. He was instrumental in the layout of Arnold's Golf Course.

Mr. Miller was the eldest member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Wapwallopen.

Harold J. Lawrence Jr.

Harold J. Lawrence Jr., 78, of 1912 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">died at 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at the Bloomsburg Health Care Center, where he had been a resident for two weeks. He had been in failing health for three years.

Born in Dover, N.J. on June 1, 1925, he was a son of the late Harold J. Sr. and Ella (Berthold) Lawrence.

Mr. Lawrence was a 1943 graduate of Roxbury Township High School in Roxbury Township, N.J. He spent his early life in the Roxbury Township area before moving to the Bahama Islands, where he lived until 1985, when he moved to Espy.

He served with the Navy during World War II and was employed for more than 30 years as a stock clerk with the former Autech Corp., a division of RCA.

Mr. Lawrence enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and coin collecting. He also bowled for many years in a league at the P-Nut Bowl, Bloomsburg.

Daniel G. 'Dan' Arner

Daniel G. Mr. Mowery had been employed for 40 years at Marelli Construction, Hazleton, until his retirement.

He was an active member and former chief of the Nescopeck Township Volunteer Company No. 1.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, the former Marlene Kishbaugh; four children: Alan Mowery, Briggsville; Mrs. Albert (Brenda) Klinger, Catawissa; Terry Mowery, Briggsville; and Mrs. Joseph (Lori) George, Berwick; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers: Clyde Mowery, Berwick; and William Mowery, Huntington Mills; and two sisters: Mrs. Arthur (Linda) White, Selinsgrove; and Mrs. Robert (Carrie) Hower, Berwick.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck, with Autumn Kishbaugh, his niece and lay minister, officiating. Burial will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
