Medill, Daniel Kerfoot
Daniel Kerfoot Medill, age 92, of Spring Run, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">died Monday, April 24, 2006 at his home. He was the husband of Dorothy Piper Medill of Spring Run. They were wed Feb. 23, 1957.
Born on April 17, 1914 in New Castle County, Del., Medill was the son of the late George L. and Mary Cook Medill. He attended public schools in Newark and Wilmington and was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, Del.
Medill graduated from the University of Delaware in 1936 with a Bachelor of Arts in pre-law and as a Reserve Army Officer, and from the George Washington Law School in 1939. He attended Dickinson Law School and was admitted to the practice of law in York County on May 27, 1940. He became a member of the law firm of Fluhrer, Medill and Shelley, and eventually retired from the general practice of law in 1997. He served for many years as solicitor of the York County Planning Commission.
Ten days after the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, he was called to active duty in the Army Anti-Aircraft. He was assigned as a Battery “C” Commander in the 778th battalion, which fought in the Battle of the Bulge in General George S. Patton’s Third Army. He received five Battle Stars, and the Bronze Star. His Battery C received the Presidential Combat Unit Citation.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church of York, for which he served as Trustee and Elder; Medill also served as Trustee of the Donegal Presbytery. He has been a member of the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church in Spring Run since 1996.
In addition to his wife, Medill is survived by a sister, Mary Medill Brown of St. Eustatius, Netherlands Antilles; two sons and a daughter, and eight grandchildren whose families are Daniel G. and Pei Yun Medill and their children Lydia, Joshua and Anna of Mesa, Ariz., Clifford R. and Rebecca Medill Jekel and their children Levi, Monica and Nathan of Camp Hill, Pa. and Thomas P. and Nancy Janette Medill and their children Kathryn and Robert of Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa.
Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church, Spring Run, Pa. The Rev. Dr. Meagan Boozer will officiate. Interment will be in Upper Path Valley Cemetery, Dry Run, Pa. Friends and family will be received at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Myers, Thelma L.

Born Jan. 13, 1918 in Mt. Union, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Oscar E. and Ida I. Hartman May. A graduate of the Mt. Union High School, Thelma had been employed as a seamstress at the former Grief Brothers Sewing Factory. She was a member of the Spring Run Bible Church where she was active with the Golden Agers and was a former church secretary and Sunday School teacher. Her husband, Welcome C. She is also survived by a half-brother, Oscar May Jr. of Madison Heights, Va., and two half-sisters, Louise White of Lynchburg, Va., and Joann Bradbury of Christiansburg, Va., and several nieces and nephews. Exum, John T.

Born Feb. 5, 1941 in Fulton, Ky., he was a son of the late Milton L. and Nell Owen Exum.
John was a 1959 graduate of the Fulton High School and attended the former Keegan Electronics Institute in Memphis, Tenn. He served six years active duty with the US Army during the Vietnam War and then was employed by the Federal Government for 38 years including assignments at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg and several overseas assignments. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg. John enjoyed golf and helping family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Magdalene J. Nagel Exum, whom he married Dec. 23, 1965 in Germany; two daughters, Christine M. Exum of San Antonio, TX, and Nichola A. Topolnicki and husband Yuri of Harrisburg, Pa.; a brother, Milton Owen Exum and wife Fran of Boston, Mass.; and a sister, Letha E. Barnes and husband Genie of South Fulton, Tenn.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday May 7, 2006 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John J. Dromazos will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Military Honors will be conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2006 in Greenlea Cemetery, Fulton, Ky. with the Rev. Ron Cox officiating.

Hughes, Harold F.

Born on Feb. 29, 1932 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Howard Ralph Hughes and Mildred E. Freet Hughes.
Harold was retired from Letterkenny Army Depot. He previously worked for the former Leonard Granite Company in Chambersburg. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Mercersburg American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Dolores M. Truett Hughes; one son, Harold R. Hughes; one granddaughter, Jennifer wife of Chris Lehman; two great granddaughters, Elizabeth Gipe and Madison Lehman; one brother, Ray E. and wife Janet Hughes, all of Chambersburg; two sisters, Patricia wife of Charles Chronister of Loraine, OH, and Emma Jane wife of Richard Miller of Hagerstown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM on Thursday, May 11 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Earl E. Mills will officiate. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery, where members of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors. Darrell W. A 1995 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Darrell had been working as a flooring subcontractor for Lowes in Chambersburg, and he had previously worked for Floor Coverings International. He attended Nossville United Methodist Church.
Aside from his mother, Darrell is survived by his daughter, the love and focus of his life, Alexis Rae Payton and Alexis’s mother, Jennifer Smith; one sister, Ellen (wife of Tony) Waggoner, all of Chambersburg; grandmother Helen Payton of Mt. Dora, FL; his step-father, Kenneth Dillman of Blairs Mills; step-brother, Benjamin Dillman of Sunbury, step-sister, April Dillman of Hershey, and step-grandmother, Hazel Sears of Chambersburg.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1st in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Revs. Chris Renner and Calvin Rich will officiate. Benedict, Mary Catharine

Surviving in addition to her husband Paul is her stepmother, Rosa Beckner of Roanoke, Va.; six sons, Lloyd B. and wife Doris of Chambersburg, Dennis D. and wife Linda of Arcanum, Ohio, Clinton W. and wife Ruth Ann of Chambersburg, Galen A. and wife Fern of Chambersburg, Omar L. and wife Loraine and Alvin R. and wife Jeanne all of Chambersburg. She is also survived by a sister Orpha Benedict of Chambersburg, brothers Everett Beckner of Winston Salem, NC, Frank Beckner of Waynesboro, Henry Lee Beckner of Chambersburg, Cleo Beckner of Clemmons NC, and a stepbrother Norris Bryant of Roanoke, Va.; 24 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Fraker, Genevieve Larue

Born November 8, 1914 in Fort Littleton, PA, she was a daughter of the late David H. and Minnie Henry Fraker. Genevieve was a graduate of McConnellsburg High School. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chambersburg and had been employed in the cafeteria of Chambersburg Hospital for eleven years, retiring in 1979. Genevieve enjoyed visiting with friends and cherished those hours of conversation.
She is survived by a nephew, Richard C. Linn and wife Eileen of Hagerstown, and many other nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Argyl M. (and husband, Paul) Gross, all of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Tara Cowgill, Jeaneen Petty, Brian Cowgill, Travis, Timothy, and Ty Gross; two great grandsons, and five great granddaughters. Merinda A. Merinda was retired from the former Allegheny Ribbon Mill in Quakertown, Pa. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Trumbauersville, Pa.
She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Ernest W. Myers, whom she married on March 15, 1947; two daughters, Susan (wife of Robert) Thompson of Chambersburg, and Nancy (wife of Frank) Karkuff of Corolla, N.Car.; two grandsons, James (husband of Dawn) Thompson and David Thompson; and one great grandson, Riley Thompson. One of 14 children, she is survived by 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 30 in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 26 West Commerce Street, Chambersburg, with the Rev. Tara Magoon officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Knepper, Lewis A.
Lewis A. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Franklin County, retiring in 1983. He was a member of New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church and was a former Sunday school teacher and Deacon. He was honored by the Franklin County Sunday School Association for his over fifty years of Sunday school service.
In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by four children, Darrel and wife Peggy Knepper of Mont Alto, Marlene Lebo and husband Earl of Mechanicsburg, Joanne (Stoner) Morrette and husband Clair, Doreen Rice and husband Fred, all of Chambersburg; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Abner Knepper of Chambersburg, Dr. Joseph Knepper of Lancaster, one sister, Miriam Stern of Philadelphia, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Kauffman, Gaylord N.
Gaylord N. Gaylord was a graduate of Waynesboro High School. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in 1985, where he had worked as a computer programmer. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church and its King’s Sons and Daughters Sunday School Class, AARP, NARFE, VFW Post 1599; Chambersburg Mall Walkers, and the Golden Opportunity Club. He was also an avid bowler and a member of several bowling leagues. An avid Penn State football fan, he was a proud season ticket-holder.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Retha L. King Kauffman; one daughter, Dr. Linda K. Kauffman Sweeney (and husband, Dennis) of Ames, Iowa; one grandson, Shawn Patrick Sweeney; two brothers, Glenn Kauffman of Waynesboro, and Donald Kauffman of Blue Ridge Summit; and one sister, Treva Walls, of Clymer, Pa., as well as several nieces and nephews.
