Genealogyblog.com - Don't be confused by the similarity of the names! Genealogyblog.com is a totally separate site and an absolute jewel in the online genealogy world! You'll quickly see why it is our very first STAR site. The blog is loaded with information in a very potpourri, yet organized fashion. Archives are available for earlier blogs, which I noted are a treasure chest for interesting reading. Joe Edmon, one of the site's owners, says, "Genealogy Blog is a place for the genealogy community to come and share information and a great way to stay up-to-date in the genealogy field. It is written by genealogists for genealogists. The blog covers the latest news in the genealogy field, provides announcements, quick reviews of new products, and provides useful information and tips for genealogists. "Our goal is to provide a central location for the latest goings-on in genealogy. Whether it's new product releases, new information found on the Web, or some new tips and lessons-learned you'll find it on Genealogy Blog. We seek to be informative, interesting, and entertaining. "We are a resource for beginning and new genealogists, by being a window to the millions of genealogy websites that are available. We don't review sites that we feel don't offer value to genealogists, or that are just come-ons for getting people into the fee-sites. Connecting Family Dots - What a site that this webmaster has created! Tons of birth records, marriages, deaths, obituaries, military records, etc., all laid out in very organized tables, perfect for the eyes of the family researcher. Aside from the generous amount of data, Connecting Family Dots has an elegant theme, pleasing to the eyes. Of special note is the biography section. Brief bios are found for quite a few ancestors but it doesn't stop there. A 'Bio Entry' form is included for visitor contributions. It is a privilege to call this a GenealogyBuff.com STAR site!
Edinburgh Castle - While not necessarily a genealogy site, I was very impressed with the totally Scottish flavor of everything with the fabulous photos of the castle and links to many Scottish resources. A bed and breakfast of sorts, with apartments and catering services, this would be where I would want to stay if I were on a "homeland" expedition! From their site, "The Edinburgh Castle website has many photographs of the various artefacts contained in Edinburgh Castle and pertaining to the Castle and Edinburgh itself." The "History of Edingurgh Castle" page is fascinating... Be sure to check out the free wallpaper section...awesome photos! Another wonderful GenealogyBuff.com STAR site!
Discover Genealogy - A delightful, fresh new site focussing on African-American genealogy. The site is very attractive, with a clean, professional appearance. Several interesting articles are referenced, very eloquently written, and discuss the topic of Slave Ancestry. Ms. Kenyatta D. Berry, Esq., a lawyer, historian, genealogist and researcher, maintains Discover Genealogy and provides professional genealogy research and consultation, while situated near the National Archives. Ms. Berry is also an accomplished lecturer and workshop leader (ref. http://www.funside.com/cal_nov.asp). Congratulations to Discover Genealogy and Ms. Kenyatta D. FamilyTreeSearcher.com - This site has an awesome search engine tool that allows multiple database results...with ONE search! A family tree hobbiest can spend hours at this jewel of a site. As with most free sites, there are also references to paid data from commercial genealogy databases. However, the convenience of the single search overwhelmingly overshadows!
