Joseph Clarence Hedrick Jr., real estate broker
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. Joesph Clarence Hedrick Jr., 57, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services were held July 23, 2001, at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Elk Grove, Calif. Burial was in Fair Oaks Cemetery, Fair Oaks, Calif.
Mr. Hedrick was a native of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and was a 1963 graduate of Aiken High School. He was a 1968 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and held a master's degree in systems management from the University of Southern California. He was a highly decorated Vietnam veteran, having flown over 100 missions as a B52 radar navigator. He operated his own real estate and mortgage loan business for 24 years. Mr Hedrick was the son of the late Joseph C. Hedrick.
Mr. Hedrick was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of American Magicians. He held a 6th degree black belt in Judo and was president of the United States Martial Arts Association. He was a member of Elk Grove Rotary and was a life member of Orangevale VFW. He was also an honorary mayor of Orangevale, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; a son, Kahlil; a daughter, Joanna; his mother, Norma Hedrick Kelley of Aiken; and two sisters, Jeanne Riley of Montgomery, Ala. and Judy Burch of Aiken.
Memorials may be made to the Joe Hedrick Memorial Trust, River City Bank No. 7, West Roseville Branch, 4000 Foothills Blvd., Suite No. 110, Roseville, Calif.
George L. Klumpp Chapel of Flowers, Sacramento, was in charge of arrangements.

Elsie P. Jeffries, hospital worker
CALCUTTA, OHIO Elsie P. Jeffries, 84, of the Calcutta Health Care Center, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at East Liverpool City Hospital following an extended illness.
Funeral services were to be held at 11 a.m. today at Dawson Funeral Home, East Liverpool, Ohio. The Rev. Duane Hetzer was to officiate.
Graveside services will be held following a visitation at George Funeral Homes, downtown, from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001. Burial will be in Aiken Memorial Gardens and the Rev. Mark Miller will officiate.
Mrs. Jeffries was a native of Braxton County, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Mood W. and Ollie B. Friend. She had lived in South Carolina from 1983 to 1999. She worked for the East Liverpool City Hospital for over 25 years and was of the Southern Baptist denomination. She attended Shaws Fork Baptist Church. Mrs. Jeffries was preceded in death by a daughter, Olive Mae Jeffries; a sister, Mildred Bealle; and a brother, Keith Friend. She was the wife of the late John R. Jeffries.
Survivors include a daughter, Hazel Walton of Lisbon, Ohio; two sons, Robert E. Jeffries of Clinton, Ohio and Jackie Lee Friend of Gassaway, W.Va.; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Virginia Woodcock Winter, former history teacher
FRIPP ISLAND Virginia "Dixie" Woodcock Winter, 82, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Fripp Island Chapel directed by Copeland Funeral Home.
Mrs. Winter was a native of Hollidaysburg, Pa. and was the daughter of the late John and Marjorie Sprecher Woodcock. She had taught U.S. History at the high school in Aiken. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort and was a founding board member of the Boys and Girl's Club of Beaufort. She was a founder of the Fripp Island Audubon Society.
Survivors include her husband, William E. Winter of Fripp Island; two daughters, Elizabeth Crower of Midland, Mich. and Barbara Park of Greenwood; a son, William E. Winter Jr. of Gaffney; a brother, John Woodcock of Altoona, Pa.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Fripp Island Community Center, 205 Tarpon Blvd., Fripp Island, 29920.

David P. Phillips Sr., detention center retiree
NORTH AUGUSTA David P. Phillips Sr., 84, of Sudlow Lake Road, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Breezy Hill Baptist Church, Graniteville. The Revs. Fred Mann and Alvin Lunsford will officiate and burial will be in Warrenville Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Phillips was a native of Lyons, Ga. He was a charter member of Breezy Hill Baptist Church and was a member of the board of directors of Breezy Hill Water & Sewer Co. He was a veteran of World War II, during which he served in the Army. He was the son of the late Benjamin Phillips and the late Susie Moyer Phillips. He was retired from the Aiken County Detention Center, where he worked as a security officer. Survivors include his wife, Emma Baker Phillips of Graniteville; four daughters, Sarah P. Smith of Warrenville, Gail H. Rickets of Lakeland, Fla., Ann H. Key of Belvedere and Loreasa Edwards of Glennville, Ga.; two sons, the Rev. David Phillips Jr. of Weaver, Ala. and Leon Holloway of Aiken; a brother, Alvin Phillips of Graniteville; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Earl Wilson, Dave Brown, Jerry Williams, Joe Hutto, Charles Hilton, Robert Medlock and Jimmy Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Breezy Hill Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Hitchcock Hospice, 690 Medical Park Dr., Aiken, 29801.
The family will receive friends at the residence or tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Napier Funeral Home, Graniteville. Mr. Phillips will lie in state in the church one hour prior to the service.

Cora Kyler, church secretary
AUGUSTA Cora L. Kyler of Division Street died Tuesday, July 31, 2001.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at St. Phillip Baptist Church with the Rev. Jacob Phinizy officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, Augusta.
Mrs. Kyler was a native of Aiken County and was a member of St. Phillip Baptist Church, where she sang with the senior choir, served on the usher board and was secretary of the church for 25 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra Starlings of Augusta, Sherry Freeman of Langley; three sons, Bernard Starlings of Clearwater, Robert Starlings of Augusta and Ronnie Starlings of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two sisters, Louise Johnson of Warrenville and Thelma McCloud of Aiken; a brother, Jimmie Lee Starlings of New Ellenton; a sister-in-law, Beulah Mae Starlings of Warrenville; step-children, the Rev. Jacob Phinizy, the Rev. H.W. Phinizy, Theodore Phinizy, James Phinizy and Mary P. Walton, all of Augusta, Lillian M. Johnson of New York City and Nehemiah Phinizy of Providence, R.I.; and ten grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, North Augusta, after 1 p.m. today.

Ma'Lizya Unjinae Guice
Ma'Lizya Unjinae Guice died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Infant Guice resided at 122 Willis Hill Road.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home Chapel. Evangelist Sharon Blount will officiate. Burial will be in New Beginning Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are her parents, Brad Elliott Robinson and Tiffany K. Guice, both of Aiken; one sister, A'Rai'bein Guice, Aiken; two brothers, Nile Ohkeem Guice and Me'Shack Guice, both of Aiken; maternal grandmother, Linda M. Guice, Aiken; maternal grandfather, Gregory K. Lewis, Aiken; paternal grandmother, Marilyn Robinson, Aiken; maternal great-grandparents, the Rev. Jessie and Fannie Guice, Union Springs, Ala.; paternal great-grandparents, George and Ruth Robinson, Aiken; paternal great-grandmother, Catherine Lewis; and paternal great-great-grandfather, Isiah Gomillion, Aiken.
Friends may call at the residence or beginning at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles Enoch Harmon
SALUDA - Charles Enoch Harmon, 77, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston. The Rev. Philip Vaughn will officiate. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Barnwell Memory Gardens.
A native of Rutherford County, N.C., he was a son of the late Thomas E. and Mary Fortune Harmon. Mr. Harmon was a retired diesel mechanic for DuPont Co. at SRP with 35 years of service.
He was an Army veteran.
Mr. Harmon was a member of the Williston First Baptist Church.
He was a member of Hope Masonic Lodge No. 126.
He was the widower of Belle York Harmon.
Surviving are one son, Mitchell Harmon, Saluda; one sister, Martha Evans, Asheville, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6-7:30 p.m. today at Folk Funeral Home.

Rita Bettis Mason
TRENTON - Rita Bettis Mason died Monday, April 16, 2001.
Mrs. Mason resided at 1415 Bettis Academy Road, Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Canaan Baptist Church. The Rev. G.L. Brightharp will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Edgefield County, Mrs. Mason taught for two years in the Edgefield County School System.
She was a member of Mount Canaan Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Reginald Mason, Maurice Mason and Tyrone Mason; two sisters, Patria Brayboy and Lucille Beaubian; two brothers, John B. Bettis and Herbert Bettis; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, North Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.

Carl E. "Jerry" Moore
WINCHESTER, Va. - Pastor Carl E. "Jerry" Moore died Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Pastor Moore, 55, resided at 2919 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester, Va.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church. Pastor Phil Roby and Dr. Glenn Burris will officiate. A funeral services will also be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at South Aiken Church of God. Pastors Donald Childers and Brian Yaun will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley.
A native of Edgefield, he was a son of Lucius L. Moore, Aiken, and Mae Moore Harrelson, Augusta. He was the pastor of Maranatha Fellowship Foursquare Church of Winchester for the past six years.
He also pastored churches in Oklahoma, Arkansas, South Carolina and Iowa.
Surviving along with his parents are his widow, Marsha Ashley Moore; one son, Christopher Eric Moore, Winchester; stepfather, Kenneth Harrelson, Augusta; stepmother, Annie Moore, Aiken; and two brothers, Paul T. Moore, Columbia and Sen. Thomas L. Moore, Clearwater.
Memorials may be made to Maranatha Fellowship Foursquare, 10 East Clifford St., Winchester, Va. 22601.
Pallbearers will be Dwight Cook, Robert "Bob" Cook, Steve Spurlock, Lenny Renner, James Hill and Tony Shifflett.
Honorary pallbearers will be the ministers and friends of the Winchester/Frederick County Ministerial Association.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, or from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley.

James Oakman
James Oakman died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Mr. Oakman, 62, resided at 1369 Congress Drive.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home.
A native of Aiken, Mr. Oakman was a retired employee of the New York Racing Association, Elmont, N.Y.

Essie Williams
Essie Williams died Friday, April 20, 2001 at her residence.
Ms. Williams, 82, resided at 4006 Lufborough Drive, Houston, Texas.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home.

Farrell W. Clark
Funeral arrangements for Farrell W. Clark will be announced by George Funeral Homes, Aiken.
Mr. Clark, 69, of Aiken, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Gerald Albert Jones
BATH - Graveside services for Gerald Albert Jones will held at 11 a.m. today at Sunset Memory Gardens.
The Rev. Frank Hyder will officiate.
Mr. Jones, of Henderson Street, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Augusta.
He was a retired electrician from Daniel Construction Co.
Mr. Jones was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9164.
Surviving are three daughters, Susan Powell and Gail Clayton, both of Beech Island, and Melinda Price, Harlem, Ga.; two sons, Craig Harrison, Beech Island, and James Harrison, North Augusta; sister, Doris Jones, North Augusta; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Golden, Joe Golden, Parker Golden, Shorty Harter, Charles Holley, Roger Lawless, Ronnie Busbee, Keith Eidson, Jimmy Williams and Dale Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be the VFW Post No. 9164.
Friends may call at the residence of his daughter, Susan Powell, 114 New Windsor Way, Beech Island, or at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley.

George Lamar Kitchens
NORTH AUGUSTA - Funeral services for George Lamar Kitchens will be held at 2 p.m. today at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home, North Augusta.
Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Kitchens, 80, of 19 Sweetwater Court, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at his residence.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. box 1725, Augusta, GA 30903.
