MACON -- Leonora Aprea Malony, 99, died Dec. 30 at a local hospital. She was a native of Savannah. She received her bachelor's degree from Trinity College in Washington and her master's degree from the University of Cincinnati. She taught in the Bibb County school system and at Mount de Sales Academy. After retiring as a social worker in 1962, she became a volunteer Pink Lady at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. In 1989, she received the Governor's Annual Volunteer Award for her service of more than 39,000 volunteer hours. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and first president of the Catholic Business Woman's Club. She operated St. Joseph's Book Store and Library for 11 years until retiring in 1965.

Ollie McGowan
METTER -- Mrs. Ollie McGowan, 81, died Jan. 1 at Candler County Hospital. She was born in Emanuel County and lived in Metter most of her life. She was a homemaker and the widow of Omer McGowan.
SURVIVORS: three sons, William McGowan and Remer McGowan, both of Metter, and Charles McGowan of Hephzibah; six daughters, Audrey Kight, Geneva Douglas, Brenda Collins and Harriett Kight, all of Metter, Alva Jean Harden of Columbia and Ann Jacobs of Statesboro; 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL: was held at 3 p.m. Monday at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Kennedy Chapel in Metter, burial in Rosemary Cemetery.

Mary Lou Y. Moore
VIDALIA -- Mrs. Mary Lou Youmans Moore, 85, died Jan. 2 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin. She was a native of Emanuel County and a resident of Lyons most of her life. She moved to Vidalia in 1969. She was a homemaker and a member of Victory Baptist Church in Vidalia.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Bessie McGowan of Vidalia and Shirley Paris of Anderson, S.C.; two brothers, Charles Youmans of Lyons and J.W. Youmans of Stillmore; two sisters, Susie Mae Daniels of Metter and Henrietta Wilson of Rincon; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pinkie L. Spring
ALMA -- Pinkie Lee Spring, 86, died Dec. 31 at Sunbridge Care and Rehab Center in Hazlehurst. She was born in Marion County and was the widow of Jerry Lee Spring. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Auburndale, Fla., and employed with Bordo Packing Co. in Winter Haven, Fla., for more than 30 years.
SURVIVORS: a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Errol Carter of Baxley; a stepdaughter, Juanita Jowers of Tallahassee, Fla.; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lillie B. Wilder, 94, died Dec. 30 at Tara Nursing Home. She was born in Thomasville, reared in Riceboro and lived most of her life in Savannah. She was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and organizer of the Ways & Means Missionary Society.
SURVIVORS: a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Willie and Leona Williams of Savannah; two sisters, Thelma Quarterman of Riceboro and Tobeana Frazier of Midway; a grandson, Rubin Hendley of Savannah; a granddaughter, Andrea Samuel of Newport News, Va.; four great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

BRUNSWICK -- A.W. Wilkes, 57, died Dec. 31 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center. He was born in Toombs County and lived in Brunswick the past 23 years. He was employed with Driftwood Manufacturing Housing of Brunswick.

Boynton Barrett
Boynton Barrett, 79, died Jan. 1 at home. He was born in Portland, Maine, and moved to Savannah three years ago from Roswell. He attended St. John's Prep School and Providence College. He was a retired Navy commander and a partner in Sun-Knit Inc., Carton Company. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a member of The Landings Club, Golden K of Skidaway Kiwanis Club and The Landings Automobile Club.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Julie Barrett of Savannah; two stepsons, David Riddell of Freehold, N.J., and Brian Riddell of Trenton, N.J.; two stepdaughters, Alexandra Riddell of Boothwyn, Pa., and Judith Koppenhafer of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister, Ann B. Shirley S. Cunningham
Shirley "Dearie" Shaner Cunningham, 85, died Jan. 3 at Hospice Savannah. She was born in Savannah, where she lived for 59 years. She was active with the Savannah Art Association, Ships of the Sea Museum, Owens-Thomas House, Junior League of Savannah and was a founding member of Savannah Children's Theatre. She was a communicant of Christ Church.
SURVIVORS: a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Ellis Cook of Savannah; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Augustus Lamar Cunningham III and Cathy Edenfield Cunningham of St. Simons Island; grandchildren, Julia Evelyn Munroe Cook, Charles Augustus Lamar Cunningham IV and James New Cunningham, all of Savannah, and Samuel Peniston Cook of Thetford, Vt.; and a great-grandchild, Lindsey Danielle Cunningham.

Lillian V. Drescher
Lillian V. Drescher died Jan. 2. She was born in Cleveland and retired as a teacher from the Cleveland public schools in 1976. She was a resident of Fort Myers, Fla., from 1981-1988 and lived in Savannah since 1988.

Pollyanne M. Herrin
HORTENSE -- Mrs. Pollyanne Middleton Herrin, 79, died Jan. 4 at Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta. She was a native of Brantley County. She was a retired educator, having taught in Charleston, Miami and for the Brantley County Board of Education. She was a member of Hortense Wesleyan Church and the widow of A.C. Herrin.

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. -- Elsie Lodge Thomas Kauffman, 91, died Jan. 1. She was a native of Savannah and a resident of the Signal Mountain area for 10 years. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Savannah and the widow of Launey Jonathan Thomas and Col. Roy Kirschman Kauffman.
SURVIVORS: a daughter, Marion Thomas Plylar of Birmingham, Ala.; a son, Dr. Launey Jonathan Thomas Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND -- Andrew Loadholt, 83, died Dec. 29 at Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. He was born in Savannah and attended Cuyler-Beach High School in Savannah. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a painter with the Veterans Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y., until retirement.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Nancy Brown Loadholt of Hilton Head Island and Bronx, N.Y.; a sister, Victoria Young of Philadelphia; and a sister-in-law, Rachel Brown of Hilton Head Island.

GARFIELD -- Grace Smith Muns, 56, died Jan. 3 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. She was a native of Emanuel County, a homemaker and a Baptist.

William Henry Mobley Jr., 81, died Jan. 2 at Memorial Health University Medical Center. He was born in Burke County and lived in Savannah most of his life. He was a member of Butler Presbyterian Church and was self-employed as a building contractor.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Ella Wesley Mobley of Savannah; two daughters, Dr. Brenda D. Mobley of Dayton, Ohio, and Sheila Mobley Zeigler of Burlington, N.C.; a son, William H. Mobley III of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, Robert E. OFFERMAN -- Mrs. Erma "Kate" Kelly Richardson, 88, died Jan. 3 at Jesup Rehab & Health Center. She was a lifelong resident of Pierce County and a member of Offerman Baptist Church and the Order of the Easter Star. She was the widow of Simon Kelly and Joseph A. Richardson.
SURVIVORS: a son and daughter-in-law, Nickey and Patti Kelly of Offerman; five grandchildren, Sandy, Andy and Katie Kelly, Brandi Steedley and Brain Peacock; six great-grandchildren and several other relatives.

Ernest E. Riley
HILTON HEAD ISLAND -- Ernest Eugene "Jeep" Riley, 77, died Jan. 3 at Life Care of Hilton Head. He was born in Paris, Tenn., and moved to Hilton Head Island in 1994 from Paris. He served in the Army and was a member of the Elks and the VFW.
SURVIVORS: a daughter, Sandra E. Riley of Moss Creek; and a sister, Robbie M. Alexander of Memphis, Tenn. Friends will be received from noon-2 p.m. Friday at McEvoy Funeral Home in Paris, with burial in Maplewood Cemetery. The Island Funeral Home.

Sylvia M. Rosenthal
Mrs. Sylvia Minkoff Rosenthal, 94, died Jan. 3 at Candler Hospital. She was born in Drahitchen, Poland, and was the widow of Joseph M. Rosenthal. She came to the United States in 1921 and opened Rosenthal's Market and operated it for 24 years. After retiring, she worked as a dental receptionist and assistant for 31 years for her son, Dr. Morris Rosenthal. She was a member of Congregation B'nai Brith Jacob and the Sisterhood. She was a life member of Mizrachi and Hadassah, the Hebrew Women's Aid Society and the Jewish Educational Alliance.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Charlotte Wall of Savannah and Brenda Shonfield of Cincinnati; a son, Irwin Rosenthal of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will sit Shiva at 4728 Fairfax Drive.

Charlie D. Sapp
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Charlie Dean Sapp, 69, died Dec. 27. He was born in Millen, Ga., and lived in Florida the past 25 years. He was a retired tractor-trailer driver.
SURVIVORS: two sons, John Sapp of Hephzibah, Ga., and Robert McClain of Millen; a stepson, James Johnson of Augusta, Ga.; a daughter, Barbara Sapp Bynes of Millen; a stepdaughter, Margie Johnson of Augusta; and six grandchildren.

Medford M. Wiggins Jr.
Medford McCoy "Butch" Wiggins Jr., 51, died Dec. 30 at Memorial Health University Medical Center. He was born in Millen. He attended Carlisle Military School in Bamberg, S.C., and graduated second in his class. He attended the University of Georgia, Calhoun Marine Engineering School in Baltimore and graduated with honors. He was certified by the Navy in safety and firefighting. He was employed on various U.S. flag vessels. At the time of his death, he was president of L.0. Smith. Inc. He was a marine surveyor and also a consulting port engineer for Vessel Owners, Underwriters, P & I, Classification Societies, and Governments. He was a member of the United States Salvage Association, The Salvage Association of London and other groups. He was a nautical inspector for the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and a special agent and safety inspector for the Republic of Vanuatu. He was a member of the Propeller Club, the Exchange Club, and a charter member of the Islands Jaycees.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Penny Stephenson Wiggins of Savannah; a daughter, Dena Wiggins of Savannah: a stepdaughter, Ashleigh Dold of Savannah; and his grandmother, Susie Gill Hudson of Savannah.

FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sipple Mortuary, interment at 4 p.m. in Elam Baptist Church Cemetery near Millen.

Mrs. Sallie Bell Wright Willis, 73, died Jan. 2 at Savannah Specialty Care Center. She was a native of Tattnall County and attended public schools there. She lived in Savannah most of her life. She was a former member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church and attended New Covenant Holiness Church.
