Robert E. Yanchuk, 54, died Jan. 2 at Hilton Head Medical Center on Hilton Head Island. He was born in Kingston, Pa., and moved to Savannah in 1988 from Waynesboro, Pa. He was a veteran of the Navy, having served in the Vietnam conflict and received numerous medals for his service. He was a technician at the Savannah Sleep Disorder Center and a respiratory therapist at Hilton Head Medical Center. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the North American Fishing Club.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Barbara Fletcher Yanchuk of Savannah; a son, Scott D. Yanchuk of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Beth Yanchuk Anderson of Decorah, Iowa, and Cindy Yanchuk Hamrysak of Montgomery, Ala.; his mother, Kathleen M. Wilhelmina Hohl Marietta, 104, died Jan. 3 at Candler Hospital. She was born in Newark, Ohio, and lived in Savannah the past 20 years. She was a communicant of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
SURVIVORS: three daughters and a son-in-law, Jane Thornley of Dallas, Rita Radke of Savannah, and Mary Louise and Charles Nowlin of Panama City, Fla., 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 3-5 p.m. Wednesday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel, with a vigil service at 4 p.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Newark.

Jackie D. Crumpton
Jackie DeLoach Crumpton, 69, died Jan. 4 at home. She was a native of Evans County and a resident of Savannah since 1952. She was a homemaker and member of Faith Primitive Baptist Church, where she served on the General Chairman Committee, the Youth Fellowship Committee and as a Youth Camp counselor.
SURVIVORS: her husband, Sam Crumpton of Savannah; four daughters, Faye Corson of Vicksburg, Miss., Eva Bohannon and Nancy Jones, both of Savannah, and Mae Jo Britt of Thomaston; a sister, Ann Presley of Claxton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, 12 nephews and 12 nieces.

Ben Cunningham
YEMASSEE, S.C. -- Ben Cunningham, 72, died Jan. 1 at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. He was born and educated in Colleton County. He was a trackman for Seaboard Coast Line Railroad, retiring in 1985 after 20 years of service. He was a member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Yemassee, and its choir.
SURVIVORS: a son, Jonathan Cunningham of Yemassee; nine daughters, Martha Williams, Hattie Mae Ellis, Rose Ann Cunningham, Shirley Pinckney, Emily Mitchell, Brenda Cunningham, Felicia Cunningham and Rosa Lee Logan, all of Yemassee, and Evelyn Cunningham of Miami; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and other relatives.

COOSAWHATCHIE, S.C. -- Alex Dawson, 65, died Dec. 29. He was born in Archerville, N.C., and served in the Army for many years. He owned a construction company in New York City before retiring and moving to Coosawhatchie.

MILLEN -- Mrs. Sara Beth Forehand, 73, died Jan. 4 at Bethany Nursing Home. She was born in Twin City and lived in Swainsboro and Twin City before moving to Millen. She was the widow of Jack D. Forehand and Harry T. Bishop. She was a retired nursing assistant and a member of Elam Baptist Church in Millen.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Harriett Murphy McDowell of Columbia and Romona Snedeker of Harpursville, N.Y.; a son, Harry Wayne Bishop of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, John W. Wall of Beech Island, S.C.; and five grandchildren.

Valarie E. Golden
HAMPTON, S.C. -- Valarie E. Golden, 35, died Jan. 2 at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She was born in Colleton County and was a former resident of Yemassee. She was a 1982 graduate of Walterboro High School and a graduate of Technical College of the Lowcountry with a degree in criminal justice and Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia. She was a former interim chief of the Estill Police Department and at the time of her death held the position of captain. She was a member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Yemassee, and served as a member of the combined choir, the Pastor's Aide Society and the Missionary Board. She was also a member of South Carolina Law Enforcement Association, South Carolina Chiefs of Police and Order of the Eastern Star, Guiding Light Chapter No. 285, Estill.
SURVIVORS: her husband, Herbert E. Golden Jr. of Hampton; a son, Justin Christopher Golden of Hampton; a stepson, Herbert Golden III of Virginia Beach, Va.; a stepdaughter, Martha Golden of Bradenton, Fla.; her mother, Maggie L. LUDOWICI -- Lonzo Griffin, 63, died Jan. 3 at Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville. He was a native of Brantley County and a resident of Long County the past 24 years. He received a basketball scholarship to South Georgia College in Douglas. He was a former employee of Hercules Inc. in Brunswick and a heavy equipment operator with the Georgia Department of Transportation the past 17 years. He was a Baptist.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Shelia Deal of Dawsonville and Stephnie Odom of Glennville; three sons, Scott Griffin of Atlanta, Shelby Griffin of Claxton and Stephen Griffin of Twin City; five stepsons, Marvin, Clifton, Clinton and Jimmy Deloach, all of Ludowici, and Donnie Deloach of Eastman; four sisters, Hazel Lee of Hoboken, Vera Blocker of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Corene Lewis of Dublin and Chan Crosby of Mississippi; three brothers, Coleman Griffin of Nahunta, Melvin Griffin of Ocala, Fla., and Marvin Griffin of Ludowici; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

GLENNVILLE -- Clide Lee Morris, 90, died Jan. 4 at Savannah Square in Savannah. He was a North Carolina native and a previous resident of Glennville and Pine Harbor. He was a member of Morgan's Chapel Methodist Church and retired from the tobacco industry.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Martha Snipes Morris of Glennville; a daughter, Denise Smith of Beaufort; four sons, Clifford Randall of Reidsville, Allen and Wayne Randall of Claxton and Darrie Randall of Glennville; two sisters, Edna Barker of Greensboro, N.C. and Elsie Dickerson of Oxford, N.C.; a brother, Dr. J.B. BILOXI, Miss. -- Mrs. Emmons Brannon Kernodle Neff, 87, died Jan. 4. She was a native of Jackson and a resident of Biloxi for eight years. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Jackson.
SURVIVORS: three daughters, Louise Mayburn of Biloxi, Kenneth Jones of Terry, Miss., and Anne Byrd of Savannah; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy W. Noah
ST. SIMONS ISLAND -- Dorothy Wilbur Noah, 95, died Nov. 28 at Heritage Cottage. She was born and lived in Waterloo, Iowa. After graduating from Iowa State Teachers College and obtaining a master's degree in the late 1920s, she moved to Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. Later she moved to Milledgeville, where she taught courses in speech and English and was active in music. She also led the Presbyterian Church choir. In 1965 she moved to St. Simons Island and was active in music at St. Simons United Methodist Church. She was a member of PEO and the widow of Dr. Max Stephen Noah.
SURVIVORS: a son, retired Lt. Gen. Max W. Noah of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Joy Noah McMillan of St. Simons Island; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

ST. SIMONS ISLAND -- Peggy Lee Anglin Parks, 71, died Jan. 3 at her home. She was a native of Norman Park and a resident of St. Simons Island the past eight years. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Brunswick and taught the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She was president of the church's Missionary Society and served as a member of the Church Board.
SURVIVORS: a son and daughter-in-law, Charles L. Parks III and Linda G. Parks of Moultrie; a brother, Robert Lanier Anglin of Brunswick; three sisters, Mildred Anglin Harris of St. Simons Island, Carolyn Anglin Herrin of West Green and Linda Anglin Smith of Hazlehurst; a granddaughter, Peggy Sue Parks Motes of Schweinfurt, Germany; and several nieces and nephews.

Dr. Salvatore Brancato Jr.
ARIANO, Italy -- Dr. Salvatore Brancato Jr., 30, died Dec. 27 at Ariano Air Force Base. He was born in Savannah and was serving in the Air Force as a dentist with the rank of captain. He received a bachelor of science degree from Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania and a doctor of dental surgery degree from Jersey College of Medicine in Newark, N.J.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Dr. Marie Batanz Brancato of Livingston, N.J.; his father, Dr. Salvatore Brancato Sr. of Savannah; his stepmother, Anna Brancato of Savannah; a brother, V. LYONS -- Mrs. Uretha "Sissy" Barfield, 50, died Jan. 3 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. She was a lifelong resident of Toombs County and was employed as a seamstress at Cedar Crossing Apparel. She was a member of New Beginning Church of God in Lyons.

YEMASSEE, S.C. -- Albertha L. Jackson, 76, died Jan. 3. She was born in Deaux Hill and attended public schools. She was a graduate of the Beauty College in Portsmouth, Va. She was the widow of Irvin L. Jackson Sr. and was a licensed nurse until retiring. She was a member of Beaufort-Salem Presbyterian Church and was a choir member, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, church pianist and one the first female elders of Beaufort-Salem.
SURVIVORS: a daughter, Anne Chisolm of Yemassee; four sons, Irvin Jackson Jr. of Atlanta, Tyrone M. Jackson of Yemassee, Kenneth M. Jackson of Charleston and Clinton L.
