A native of Spartanburg County, he was son of the late W.D. and Garland Gray Cantrell. He was a member of Brookland C.M.E. Church and retired from Roper Motor Co. Surviving are a daughter, Carrie Lyles of Chesnee; a son, Johnny E. Alexander of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Malessia Bradley
TRYON, N.C. -- Malessia Octavia Foster Bradley, 92, of Route 1, Peniel Baptist Church Community died Jan. 14, 2000, at White Oak Manor. A native of Polk County, she was the widow of the Rev. Silas H. Bradley and daughter of the late John Ladson and Sallie Davis Foster. She was a member of Peniel Baptist Church and a homemaker. Surviving are five sons, The Rev. Wayne H. Bradley of Landrum, Earnell Bradley of Mill Spring, Lefty Bradley of New Prospect, Darrell Bradley of Inman and Malcolm Bradley of Pauline; three sisters, Ollie Parker and Ruth Day, both of Columbus, and Kate Phillips of Mill Spring; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Peniel Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Jimmy Justice and Steve Price. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:15 p.m. The family is at their respective homes. The Petty Funeral Home of Landrum is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth T. Peck
Elizabeth Townsend Peck, 85, died Jan. 15, 2000, in Spartanburg. A native of Charleston, she was the widow of Thomas K. Peck and daughter of the late Charles Henry and Elizabeth MacLean Townsend. She was a graduate of the College of Charleston and she was of the Episcopal faith. She had previously worked as a reporter for the Charleston News and Courier and later contributed as a special writer for feature articles and book reviews. She was retired from College of Charleston having served as the administrative assistant to the president and later as editorial assistant for the Alumni Affairs office. Surviving are a son, Thomas K. Peck Jr. of Walnut Grove; and two grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Walter Miller Jessup, 39, of 520 Union St. died Jan. 14, 2000, from injuries due to an automobile accident. A native of Greensboro, N.C., he was son of Elizabeth Miller of Spartanburg and the late Florence Stevenson. Also surviving are a son, Carlos Miller of Rock Hill; four sisters, Shirley Jessup, Layla Browning, Shirley Lecounte and Flora Mae Buckson, all of Spartanburg; and seven brothers, J.T. Stevenson of Charlotte, N.C., Victor Stevenson of Winston-Salem, N.C., Leon Stevenson of Greenville, and Smyttie, Clarence, Frank and Arthur Lee Spencer, all of Spartanburg. Preston Eugene "Gene" Culbreath, 61, of 301 W. Wood St. died Jan. 15, 2000, at his home following a lengthy illness. A native of Aiken, he was son of the late William A. and Ruth Copenhaven Culbreath. He was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church of Plum Branch. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0172. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years. He worked for Greenwood County as tax assessor and served on the S.C. State Highway Patrol. He was the owner and operator of Hearon Circle Shell. He was retired from S.C. Department of Transportation Engineering Tech II. He was a member of SCD Association and the Disabled Veteran Association Commander Club. Surviving are his wife, Patricia D. Culbreath of the home; and a brother, W.R. Culbreath of Greenwood. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Erbskorn. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the home. Stevenson; two sisters, Flora Mae Buckson, and Shirley Lecounte both of Spartanburg; four brothers, Frank Spencer Sr., Smyttie, Arthur Lee, and Clarence Spencer all of Spartanburg; three half-brothers, J.T. Stevenson of Charlotte, N.C., Victor Stevenson of Winston Salem, N.C., and Leon Stevenson of Spartanburg; a daughter, Linda Miller of Florida; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. GREER -- Charlie Otis Wolfe, 69, of 302 Northview Drive died Jan. 15, 2000, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Greenville County, he was son of the late Otis and Annie Weaver Wolfe. He was the owner of Charlie O. Wolfe, Inc., the past president of the Greer Board of Realtors, and past Commander of the Greer Chapter 39 DAV. He was inducted into the South Carolina Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame, he was a registered South Carolina Real Estate Appraiser and a licensed North Carolina Realtor and Auctioneer. He was a member of the Greater Greer Business Association, Greenville Association of Realtors, Bailey Masonic Lodge, and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War where he served as a staff sergeant. Surviving are his wife, Jean Garrett Wolfe of the home; three daughters, Connie Jean Green, Charlene W. Snow, and Jennifer Lynn Ronk all of Greer; a brother, William P. Wolfe of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Lorene Delegatti of Greenville, Ruth A. Lark of Greer; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the Wood Mortuary. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wood Mortuary. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will be at the home.

A native of Spartanburg, he was the son of Margaret Aileen Davis Walker of the home and the late Paul Franklin Walker. He was a mechanic for the State Government and a member of Bass Masters. He was a member of West End Baptist Church. LYMAN -- John Whitfield Sloop, 56, of 561 Edwards Road, died Feb. 5, 2000, at Northeast Medical Center in Concord, N.C. A native of Cabarrus County, he was the son of Charles B. Sloop of Concord and the late Lilly Jordan Sloop. He was employed 30 years at National Starch Co. in Salisbury and also Sybron Chemical, Inc. in Wellford. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, and was an avid rollerblader, cyclist, gardener and stamp collector. Surviving in addition to his father are one sister, Martha S. Doss of Concord; two brothers, C. Phillip Sloop and Robert J. Sloop, both of Concord. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church in Concord, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Cobb. The family will receive friends after the service, at the church.
