John Anderson Jetter
Retired lithographer
John Anderson Jetter, 72, of 329 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, husband of Dorothy Jones Jetter, died March 6, 2002, at his residence after a brief illness.
Mrs. Jetter was born in Union County on Feb. 17, 1930, a son of the late Cleveland and Brooksie Johnson Jetter. He was a retired lithographer and a member of St. Paul Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: a daughter, Brooksie Spears of Haverhill, Mass.; a son, tony Jetter of Massapequa, NY.; two brothers, Bennie Jetter of Detroit, Mich. and Henry C. Jetter of Palm Coast, Fla.; two aunts, Daisey Posey of Jersey City, NJ and Sarah Watts of Colorado; a sister-in-law, Lucy Jetter of Palm Coast, Fla.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Sunday at the Carolina Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Luther Means officiating. Burial will be in the Long Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the chapel at noon Sunday to await the hour of service.
Viewing and visitation will be Saturday from 11:30 a. m. until 9 p. m. and Sunday from 9 until 11:30 a. m.
The family is at the home, 329 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Jonesville.
The Carolina Mortuary has charge of the arrangements.

Leroy Kershaw Sr.
Union native
Leroy Kershaw Sr., 78, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died March 3, 2002.
He was born in Union, the son of the late Sam and Sophie Kershaw. He was married to Pauline Kershaw, who preceded him in death, for 61 years.
Surviving are: six children, Essie Kershaw, James Kershaw, Daisy Carter, Leroy Kershaw Jr., Delores Kershaw and Zena Mae Jenkins, all of Cincinnati; two sisters, Alberta Wallace and Ruby Brown of Lukesville. Three children preceded him in death, Shirley Kershaw, Helen Kershaw and Mable Gentry.
Funeral services were held March 7, 2002 at Golden Leaf Baptist Church with burial in Spring Grove Cemetery.
Thompson, Hall and Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mozelle S. Messer
Retired from United Merchants
ENOREE - Mozelle Smith Messer, 80, formerly of 8279 Highway 56, widow of William Floyd Messer, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at 1:20 a.m. in Oakmont Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Mrs. Messer was born in Buffalo on June 4, 1921, a daughter of the late James Boyd "J.B." Smith and Fannie Harrison Smith. She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church and was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice M. Vinson and her husband, Frank P. Vinson of Enoree; two sisters, Minnie S. Turner of Buffalo and Thelma Robinson of Fair Play; a brother, Roy Lee Smith of Buffalo; a granddaughter, Jennifer Mitchell and her husband, Todd Mitchell of Enoree; a great-grandson, Zachary Todd Mitchell of Enoree; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Guy Langston. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Saturday from 5-7 p.m. and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service.
The family is at the home, 8279 Highway 56, Enoree.
The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Martha B. O'Dell
Retired from Rosemont Plant
BUFFALO - Martha Bell O'Dell, 63, wife of William E. "Eddie" O'Dell, of 819 Linersville Road, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at 7:02 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital.
Mrs. O'Dell was born in Union on Jan. 31, 1939, a daughter of the late John and Pearl Gibson Bell. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and was retired from Spartan Mills, Rosemont Plant.
Surviving in addition to her husband are four daughters, Beverly Dale Groves, Patty Elaine Canupp and Susan Ann Nations, all of Buffalo, and Francine Anderson of Union; four sons, Eddie Wayne O'Dell of Boiling Springs, William Thomas O'Dell and Donald Eugene O'Dell, both of Pacolet, and Marvin Arnold Greer of the home; two sisters, Viola Nichols of Hendersonville, N.C., and Patsy Malone of Inman; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. O'Dell was predeceased by a daughter, Beth Black, two granddaughters, Melanie Elizabeth Black and Donnise Elaine Church; a brother, John Bell; and a sister, Fannie Dill.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Grady Ghent and the Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in Putman Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Johnny Malone, Craig Price, Tim O'Dell, Eddie Ponder, Chris Wages and Ricky Black.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9.
The family is at the home, 819 Linersville Road, Buffalo.
Memorials may be made to the Union County Cancer Service, care of Ola Jean Kelly, 117 Fant Lane, Union, 29379.

Doris Long Johnson
Union native
Doris Long Johnson, 49, of Brooklyn N.Y., died March 7, 2002 at her residence after a brief illness.
She was born in Union County on Nov. 5, 1952, a daughter of the late Birk and Sarah Long, granddaughter of the late Wright and Gracie Long and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jeter.
Survivors include a sister, Jackie Long of Brooklyn, NY; a brother, Jesse Long of Brooklyn NY; five aunts, two uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Leon W. Brown Funeral Home of Brooklyn, NY, was in charge of arrangements.

Lorena Fisher
U.S. Navy veteran
BUFFALO - Lorena "Renie" Fisher, 64, of 2463 Mt. Lebanon Road, wife of Clint Fisher, died at her home on Tuesday, March 13, 2002, at 5:15 p.m. after an extended illness.
Mrs. Fisher was born in Yuba City, Calif., on Sept. 28, 1937, a daughter of Margaret Crawford Hargrave of Redding, Calif., and the late Everette Hargrave. She was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church and the Ann Hinkle Sunday School Class. She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of Spartanburg Technical College with an associate degree in business. She was formerly employed as a human resource manager with Becon Construction Company and also was formerly employed with Her Majesty and Conso Products of Union.
Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are a daughter, Debra O'Dell of Buffalo; a son, Barry Fisher of Buffalo; a sister, Sharon Lansdell of Redding, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Megan and Cody O'Dell of Buffalo.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church by the Rev. Benny Green. Members of the Ann Hinkle Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group.
The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the memorial service.
The family is at the home, 2463 Mt. Lebanon Road, Buffalo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, P.O. Box 72, Union, 29379.

Eva G. Kingdom
Union County native
Eva Garner Kingdom, 67, wife of Ronald Kingdom of 107 Green St. died Monday, March 11, 2002, at 6:58 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Kingdom was born in Union on July 19, 1934, a daughter of the late Bunyon and Ruth Vaughan Garner. She attended Full Gospel Tabernacle of God. Mrs. Kingdom was first married to the late John E. Fleming.
Surviving in addition to her husband are four daughters, Jane Fleming, Betty Jean Fleming and Joan Fleming, all of Union and Linda Fleming Cornwell of Aiken; three sons, Johnny Fleming, Jonathan Fleming and Ronnie Kingdom, all of Union; two sisters, Jeanene Crocker of Union and Peggy Fuller of Birdsdale, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. Mrs. Kingdom was predeceased by a brother, Sammie Garner.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Ricky Cook.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30.
The family is at the home of her sister, Jeanene Crocker, 1085 Brown's Creek Church Road, Union.

Ruth F. Knox
Gilead Baptist Church member
JONESVILLE - Ruth Fowler "Piney" Knox, 91, of 909 Spartanburg Highway, widow of LeRoy Knox, died at her home Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at 5:30 p.m. after an extended illness.
Mrs. Knox was born in Jonesville on Sept. 25, 1910, a daughter of the late Herbert and Dessie Horne Fowler. She was a member of Gilead Baptist Church and was a former textile employee.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Lavenia) Inman of Jonesville; three sisters, Pauline Turner and Mamie Addis, both of Jonesville and Alice Harris of Union; three grandchildren, Rhonda Black of Larton, Va., Cynthia Horne and Darron Wix, both of Jonesville; six great-grandchildren, Robbie E. Horne of Jonesville, Tonya Smith of Lockhart, Maranda Black and Eric Black, both of Larton, Va., Kayla Wix and Kristie Wix, both of Union; and two great-great-grandchildren Tayla Smith of Lockhart and Emily Horne of Jonesville; Mrs. Knox was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Wix; two grandchildren, Teresa and Trena Inman; two sisters, Nellie Fowler and Daisy Bell Buice; five brothers, Jennings Fowler, Eugene Fowler, Nathaniel Fowler, Herbert Fowler Jr. and Hoyt Earl Fowler.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Gilead Baptist Church by the Rev. Lawton Neely. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Robbie Horne, Craig Horne, Chris Horne, Gene Horne, Scott Smith and Harold Fowler.
The body will be at Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel where the family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Friday to await the hour of service.
The family is at the home of his granddaughter, Gene and Cindy Horne, 1101 South Jonesville Highway, Jonesville.
Memorials may be made to the Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 748 Gaffney Highway, Jonesville, 29353.

Helen V. Foster
West Springs native
SPARTANBURG - Helen Vinson Foster, 89, of 180 Bullington Road, died March 12, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of West Springs community, Union County, she was a daughter of the late Malcolm Eugene and Haskell Douglas Gist Vinson and the wife of the late Oland A. Foster Sr. She was a graduate of Pauline High School and was retired from Spartan Mills after 36 years service. Mrs. Foster was a member of Canaan Baptist Church where she was a member of the loyal Workers Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: two sons, O. A. (Buddy) Foster Jr. and James David Foster, both of Spartanburg; five daughters, Betty Jean F. Dill and Ruby F. Roberts, both of Spartanburg, Juanita F. Lambert of Duncan, Helen Ruth F. Blake of Roebuck and Josie Louise F. Valatka of Wilmington, MA; a sister-in-law, Ruth Lowe Vinson of Spartanburg; eighteen grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sister, Louis Vinson Riddle and Eula Vinson; two brothers, Richard Vinson and David Eugene Vinson; five grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be 2 to 2:45 p. m. Friday at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3 p. m. at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Terry Pleasant and the Rev. Harold Wilson. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canaan Baptist Church Building Fund, 701 Canaan Road, Spartanburg, S. C. 29306.
The family is at their respective homes.
