LORNA T. BRADLEY
Lorna Tindal Bradley, 87, widow of William Thomas “Tom” Bradley Sr., died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at her home, 1185 E. Brewington Road.
Born July 8, 1914, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Jackson Tindal and Elodia Windham Tindal. She was the former owner of Bradley’s Market and had been retired for many years. She was a member of Bible Fellowship Church on Broad Street, Sumter.
Survivors include four daughters, Lois Ann Chandler and her husband, Charles E. Chandler, Betty Jean Kelly, Helen Marie Phillips and her husband, J.W. Phillips, and Lorna Elaine McLeod and her husband, Ernest McLeod; two sons, Jackie Tindal Bradley and his wife, Betty Bradley, and William Thomas “Billy” Bradley and his wife, Shirley Bradley, all of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Bradley Geddings of Sumter; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an adopted brother, Fox Allen Tindal.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bible Fellowship Church with the Rev. Jack Whitehead officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
Chris Phillips, Robert Bradley, John Rowland, Charles Bradley, Howard “Butch” Kelly and Donald Burke will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Lois Chandler, 1675 E. Brewington Road.
Memorials may be made to Bible Fellowship Church Building Fund, 227 Broad St., Sumter, S.C. 29150 or to a charity of one’s choice.
Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

JERRY N. BYRD
SUMMERTON — Jerry Neil Byrd, 64, husband of Ula D. Hornikel, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born April 20, 1937, in Wilmington, N.C., he was a son of the late John B. and Nita Suggs Byrd. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired captain and engineer with Coastal Corp. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors beside his wife of Summerton include three daughters, Tamara Cummins and Samara Cummins of Atlanta, Ga., and Ula Long of Miami, Fla.; two sisters, Frances Potter of Leland, N.C., and Alice Carroll of Wilmington; and six grandchildren, Blake Ribbey, John Long, James Martin, Robert Martin, Jake Hook and Dawn Long.
A brief memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Summerton Police Dept., P.O. Box 279, Summerton, SC 29148.
Stephens Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

A.J. CONNOR
LEXINGTON — A.J. Connor, 76, of Lexington, husband of Carolyn Connor, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001.
Born in Florence County, he was a son of the late Judson L. and Janie Locklair Connor. He was semi-retired from Rice Music House. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Acacia Lodge No. 94 AFM.
Survivors besides his wife include a daughter, Susan Ardis of Manning; five sisters, Lee Merrithew of Charleston, Merlee Knight of Goose Creek, Joyce Reneau of Jacksonville, Betty Senn of Clemson and Jackie Moore of Charleston; three grandchildren, Stacy Ardis, Carole Evans and Wil Ardis; and a great-grandson, Taylor Lee Evans.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington with the Rev. Lloyd F. Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Southland Memorial Gardens with full Masonic Rites.
Members of the Acacia Masonic Lodge will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements.

BARBARA DINGLE
LYNCHBURG — Barbara Dingle, 44, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Born Sept. 4, 1957, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of Bobby Green and the late Sammie Belle Dingle.
She attended Lee County public schools and was a 1976 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. She was a member of Green Bay Missionary Baptist Church in Lynchburg, where she served on the mass choir. She was employed at Madison Industries in Sumter for 10 years until her health failed.
Survivors besides her father include a son, Lorenzo Dingle of the U.S. Navy, Charleston; an adopted son, William Cooper of Florence; a daughter, Moncia Dingle of Lynchburg; an adopted daughter, Kershania Burgess of Lynchburg; two brothers, Robert Dingle of Lynchburg and Ronnie Green of Philadelphia; two sisters, Hattie Dingle and Mariah Burgess, both of Lynchburg; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Green Bay Missionary Baptist Church in Lynchburg with the Rev. Eugene Myers Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Sanders Cemetery in Lynchburg.
The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The funeral procession will leave at 2:40 p.m. from the home of her sister, Hattie Dingle, 470 U.S. 76 West, Lynchburg.
The family will receive friends at the home of Hattie Dingle.
Jefferson Funeral Home of Lynchburg is in charge of arrangements.

SHYHEM O. SIMON
Shyhem Omar Simon, a son of James Simon Sr. and Lenora Brunson Simon, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital.He was born Aug. 9, 2000, in Sumter County.
Survivors besides his parents include three brothers, Patrick Simon, Tykeem Simon and James Simon Jr.; a sister, Latesha Simon; grandparents, Patrick Dunham, Rebecca Dunham, Henry Johnson and Dora M. Simon; an uncle, Albertis Simon and his wife, Almettia; four aunts, Betty L. Brunson, Ilean Simon, Patricia Simon and Terry Simon; and a number of grandaunts and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday at Berea Seventh-day Adventist Church, 675 S. Lafayette Drive, Sumter, with Pastor Eugene Mason officiating. Burial will be in St. Mark Baptist Church cemetery in Silver.
Floral arrangements for Baby Shyhem Omar Simon’s funeral services may be sent to Williams Funeral Home, 821 Main St., Sumter.
Walker’s Mortuary of Johns Island is in charge of arrangements.

DONALD M. BLANDING III
Donald “Don” McQueen Blanding III, 59, husband of Beverlee Page Blanding, died today, Dec. 5, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Services will be announced by Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home of Sumter.

ROBERT SALAZAR
COLUMBIA — Robert Salazar died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001.
Born in Columbia, he was a son of Felipe and Maria Salazar.

JANIE WINDHAM
HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Janie Windham, widow of Benjamin Windham, died today, Dec. 5, 2001, at Heartland Healthcare System in Hyattsville.
Born March 25, 1912, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Hattie Shaw.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Henry Windham, 2167 Nancy Branch Road, Mayesville.
Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter.

MAGDALENE M. BROCK
Magdalene Moses Brock died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Hopewell HealthCare Center.
Born Nov. 7, 1913, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Lucy Moses. She attended Sumter County public schools. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Morris College. She taught school in both Orangeburg and Lee counties. She recently became a member of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Brock Green of Columbia; three grandchildren, Julia Evett Glover, James Ervin Green and Joseph Eugene Green; and a great-grandchild, Mikeal Ervin Green.
Wake services will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the chapel of Community Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mechanicsville United Methodist Church in the Ashwood community with the Rev. Herbert Fogle officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.
The funeral procession will leave at 12:15 p.m. from the home of her niece, Maggie Moses Deas, 1039 Porter St.
The family will receive friends at the home of Maggie Moses Deas.

CLARA McCLOUD
REMBERT — Clara “Bug” McCloud, 53, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001.
Born June 16, 1948, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of Creola McCloud Richardson and the late Dave Skinner. She attended Sumter County public schools and graduated from Ebenezer High School. After residing in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Washington, D.C., she returned to Rembert to be with her family.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Anthony Richardson of Washington, D.C., Patrick Jerome McCloud of Rembert and Willie Jacob McCloud of Wedgefield; two daughters, Teresa Samuels of Washington and Bernadette Richardson of Dalzell; two sisters, Lottie McKenzie of Rochester, N.Y., and Sallie Alston of Rembert; three half-sisters, Rosa Grant, Ellandura Dennis and Lillian Davis, all of Rembert; a special friend, Alfonzo Dunham; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Rafting Creek Baptist Church, S.C. 261 North, Rembert, with the Rev. Dr. Charles H. Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Roger Dennis, Cory English, Matthew Holiday, Brian Holiday, Jermaine Lewis and Bobby Young will serve as pallbearers.
Doretha Alston, Evelyn Young, Stacey Bennett, Kathleen Gallashaw, Tomeka Gallashaw, Elaine Harris and Nakenya Robinson will serve as flower bearers.
The funeral procession will leave at 2:15 p.m. from the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Sallie and Donnie Alston, 7085 U.S. 521 North, Sumter.
The family will receive friends at the home of Sallie and Donnie Alston.

ALONZA McFADDEN SR.
GABLE — Alonza McFadden Sr., 83, husband of Catherine Epps McFadden, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born Sept. 26, 1918, in the New Zion community of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Sidney “Big Uncle” Cooper and Rose McFadden. He was raised by his aunt, the late Hattie McFadden.
He attended Melina Parochial School. He was a member of Melina Presbyterian Church, where he served as a member of the trustee board, the senior choir and Presbyterian Men Organization. He retired from Georgia-Pacific Inc.
Survivors besides his wife of Gable include four sons, Richard T. McFadden, John Wesley McFadden and Joseph Witherspoon, all of Gable, and Alonzier McFadden Jr. of Columbia; a daughter, Rose Marie McFadden of Spring Valley, N.Y.; two brothers, William Cooper of New Zion and Johnnie Cooper of Chicago, Ill.; four sisters, Pearl Harrison and Margaret Kennedy, both of New Zion, Viola Brown of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Anna Ree Pleasant of Detroit, Mich.; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sidney, Richard and P.J.; and three sisters, Mary, Annie and Mildred.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Melina Presbyterian Church in Sardinia with the Rev. Carnell Hampton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.
The family will receive friends at the home of his wife, 114 Rainbow Road, Gable.

EDDIE H. WELCH
Eddie Howard Welch, 52, husband of Donna Faye Duke Welch, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at his home.
Born in Sardinia, he was a son of Mabel Springs Welch and the late Samuel Luther Welch. He graduated from East Clarendon High School and Sumter Area Technical College with an associate degree in business. He was a member of Midway Presbyterian Church.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran, a recipient of the Good Conduct, the Marksman and Vietnam medals. He was employed by Square D Co. in Columbia for 15 years.
Survivors besides his wife of Sumter and his mother of Sardinia include a son, Justin Howard Welch of Sumter; two daughters, Melissa Welch Jackson and her husband, Brian, and April Welch Stanfield and her husband, K.B., all of Sumter; a brother, Luther Devonne Welch of Hanahan; a sister, Elaine W. Duke of Lamar; and two granddaughters, Sara Ashlee Jackson and Emily Faye Jackson, both of Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Walt Kendall officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home, 325 Pack Road.

SHARON HILL, Pa. — Buster “Mr. B” Bennett, 73, formerly of Summerton, S.C., husband of the Rev. Queenie I. Bennett, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at his home.
Born in Summerton, he was a son of the late John and Corene Gibbs Bennett. He attended Summerton public schools. He was retired from Perlite Products of Primes after 41 years of employment.
Survivors besides his wife include six sons, Alonzo “Big Tank” Bennett and Buster “Bubble Gum” Bennett, both of Summerton, Jeremiah Bennett of Elizabeth City, N.C., Joseph Bennett of Newark, Del., Gregory Bennett of Baltimore, Md., and George Johnson of Willingboro, N.J.; five daughters, Geraldine Calloway of Summerton, Shirley Owens, Sandra Sims, Stephanie Evans and Iris Copeland, all of Sharon Hills; two brothers, Lawrence Bennett of Philadelphia, Pa., and Adam Bennett of Morton, Pa.; five sisters, Elizabeth Singleton, Pauline Bennett and Georgia Jones, all of Summerton, Daisy Bennett and Bertha Martin, both of Philadelphia; 37 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Wake services will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Claude J. Edney Funeral Home, 634 Sharon Ave., Darby Township, Darby, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Zion CME Church, Felton and Orange Avenue, Darby. Burial will be in Mt. Lawn Cemetery in Sharon Hills.
The casket will be placed in the church from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday.
