JOHN B. FLOYD Jr.
CHARLESTON -- Mr. John Burdell Floyd Jr., 56, of Charleston, died Saturday, March 22, 2003. A memorial services will be held 3 p.m. today at New Hope Christian Church in New Zion.
Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of Mrs. Ethel Frye Floyd and the late Rev. J. Burdell Floyd Sr. Mr. Floyd was owner of Charleston Interiors and a member of the New Hope Christian Church of New Zion.
Mr. Floyd was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Libby Floyd; and two brothers, Roger Dale Floyd and Jimmy Biven Floyd.
Surviving beside his mother of New Zion are one sister, Elaine Floyd and her husband, Kenny, of New Zion; and one brother, Darren Floyd and his wife, Brandi, of Mt. Pleasant.
The family requests that memorials be made to the New Hope Christian Church, P.O. Box 17, New Zion, SC, 29111.

LILLIE M. MILLER
Lillie Mae Miller, 57, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at Tuomey Healthcare System.
Born March 6, 1946, in New York City, she was a daughter of Mrs. Lillie Mae Blair Johnson and the late Wesley Miller.
The family will receive friends at the home of her mother, 716 Nelson St.
Services will be announced by Sumter Funeral Service, Inc.

RANDOLPH McKENZIE
LAKE CITY — Randolph McKenzie, 70, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at a Florence hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in New Town Free Will Baptist Cemetery directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Visitation will be held today at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.
Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Clinton Randolph McKenzie and Hattie Beard McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie was a retired farmer.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet (Glenn) Porter of Lake City and Donna (Tommy) Lee of Cades; a son, Clint (Wendy) McKenzie of Lake City; a sister, Winnie Mae Turner of Lake City; and five grandchildren, Sam and Calvin Porter, T.J. and Kenzie Lee and Graham McKenzie.

GLORIA M. SHARP
MANNING — Gloria Mae Mazelin Sharp, 64, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at her home in Manning.
Born June 1, 1938, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Warren I. and Ilah Maxine Berry Mazelin Sr. She was a nursing assistant and a member of New Start Community Church.
Surviving are two brothers, Warren “Buddy” Mazelin Jr. of Manning and Grover Mazelin of Texas; two sisters, Doris Boykin of Columbia and Laurel Mazelin of Manning; three grandchildren, Jennifer Sharp of Manning, Daniel Sharp and Robert Turner Sharp, both of Sumter; and a stepdaughter, Melissa Turner of Sumter.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ilah Janine Sharp.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in New Start Community Church with the Rev. Dale Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Welch, Michael Spigner, Charles Hodge, Burt Wilson, Jessie Atkins and Herbert Mitchum.
Memorials may be made to New Start Community Church, P.O. Box 119, Manning, SC 29102.

ODELL SCOTT
COLUMBIA — Odell Scott, 55, husband of Betty Smith Scott, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at the V.A. Medical Center.
Born July 16, 1947, in Lee County, he was a son of Marion Scott and Emeila Durant Scott.
The family will receive friends at the home, 530 W. Church St. in Bishopville.
Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc.

WILBUR COOPER Sr.
MANNING — Wilbur Cooper Sr., 69, widower of Gertrude “Granny” Gamble Cooper, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born Nov. 7, 1933, in the New Zion section of Clarendon County, he was a son of Sally Redden Brunson and the late Willie Cooper. He received his education in the public school of Clarendon County at the Melina Pharocial School in Sardinia. In his youth, he accepted Christ and joined First Baptist Church of Sardinia and later joined Lodbar AME Church of New Zion. He was a farmer for his entire life.
Survivors besides his mother of Sumter, include seven sons, Wilbur Cooper Jr. of Columbia, Willie and Offered Cooper, William (Betty) Cooper, Louis Cooper, Clarence (Glory Ann) Cooper, all of New Zion, and David (Lillie) Cooper of Lynchburg; two daughters, Annie Bell (Mack) Brown and Sally Cooper, all of New Zion; two sisters, Mildred (Russell) Miller and Clara Bell McKenzie, all of Lynchburg; 25 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl S.B. Cooper.
The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Lodbar AME Church with the Rev. I.B. Herbert Sr. and the Rev. Jerome McCray officiating, assisted by the Rev. Larry Barnes and Bishop James McCoy. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1445 527 Subdivision in New Zion.

CARRIE DIBBLE
COLUMBIA — Graveside services for Caroline Oliver “Carrie” Dibble, 103, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery, 802 N. Guignard Drive in Sumter. The family will be at the home of Barbara and Osmund Dixon, 6 Westlake Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Babcock Center Foundation, P.O. Box 3817, Columbia, SC 29230. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.
Mrs. Dibble, wife of the late Malcolm R. Dibble, died Monday, March 24, 2003. Born in Florence, August 31, 1899, she was a daughter of the late Harmon Jasper Oliver and Mary White Oliver. After graduation from Florence High School in 1917, she taught school on Hilton Head Island, worked with Maxwell Brothers and Blackwell Furniture Company in Sumter, and then with the South Carolina State House of Representatives. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Osmund W. Dixon of Columbia; sisters, Doris Thames of Sumter and Teresa Worrell of Florence; one grandson, Stuart Blair; two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
The family expresses appreciation to the nursing staff at Life Care Center for the compassionate care she received while there.

TYRONE E. JOHNSON
Tyrone Eugene Johnson, 56, husband of Rita Ann Johnson Johnson, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at his home.
Born in Cheraw, he was a son of William George Johnson and Martha Lou Quick Johnson Logue.
Mr. Johnson was employed as material manager at Portola Packaging Company.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; his father of Bennettsville; his mother of Eastover; a son, Tyrone DeWayne Johnson and his wife, Cindy, of Camden; a daughter, Cynthia Lynne Odom and her husband, Robert, of Sumter; a brother, Maxie Turnage and his wife, Vondel, of Patrick; a sister, Patricia Ann Sutton and her husband, Johnny, of Hartsville; five grandchildren, Curtis Eugene Johnson, Cody Dean Laux, Jennifer Hope Johnson, Katlin Brooke Johnson and Dale Allen Johnson; four nieces; and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie C. Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the home, 615 Winston Road.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lakewood High School Varsity Baseball team.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210, or to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 269 Calhoun St., Charleston, SC 29401.

JOHNNY HOWARD
BRONX, N.Y. — Johnny Howard, 67, husband of Christine Marshall Howard, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Lincoln Hospital.
Born Jan. 19, 1936, in St. Charles, he was a son of the late Thomas Howard and Ella Dean Howard. He was educated in the public schools of Lee County. He worked for many years for the private sanitation industry in New York. At an early age, he received his Christian experience at Unionville AME Church in St. Charles.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Christopher Howard of Bronx and Johnnie Howard Jr. of Suffolk, Va.; two daughters, Annette Rueben of Bishopville and Rosa Mae Howard of Sumter; an adopted brother, Sam Reid of Mayesville; two sisters, Eloise Anderson of Mayesville and Minnie Williams of Summerville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also has two special cousins, Johnny Dean Jr. and Henry J. Dean, both of Sumter.
He is preceded in death by a brother, James Thomas Howard; and four sisters, Ida Mae Howard, Catherine Hudson, Alice Louise Perry and Rosa Mae Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Bailey’s Funeral Home in New York.

BESSIE DAVIS
BISHOPVILLE — Bessie Davis, 47, wife of Asbury Davis, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Born Oct. 17, 1955, in Lee County, she was a daughter of Mary Lee Mickens and the late Robert Mickens. She received her formal education in the public schools of Lee County. She furthered her education at the University of South Carolina, Winthrop College and St. Leo University in the field of human resource management. She served as executive director of the Lee County Council on Aging. She was an active member of St. Mark Baptist Church.
Survivors besides her husband and mother include, a stepson, Derrick Davis of Sumter; a goddaughter, Ashley Dunham of Bishopville; three daughters, Taffney Hooks of Columbia and Angie and Coretta Hooks, both of the home; two stepdaughters, Sandra Ingram of Sumter and Stephanie Davis of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Mark Mickens of Bishopville; three sisters, Jearline (Willie) Mickens of Lithonia, Ga., Joe Ann and Helen Mickens, both of Bishopville; five grandchildren, Jaylin Tucker, Datrick Bennett, Kinsley Davis and Ashley and Andrea Ingram; two sisters-in-law, Alice (Jesse) Hickman of Bishopville and Christine Hooks of Charlotte; three brothers-in-law, Lattiemore Davis Jr. of Atlanta, Bruce (Eliza Mae) Hooks of Charlotte and Harry (Frances) Hooks, all of Bishopville; three uncles, six aunts and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Mickens and an uncle, Walter S. Bowman.
A wake service will be held from 7 to 8 tonight at the mortuary.
The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark Baptist Church in Bishopville with the Rev. W.C. Wilks officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the Benjamin Chapter Masonic Lodge No. 346.
The funeral procession will leave at 2:15 p.m. from the home, 512 N. Nettles St. in Bishopville.
The family will receive friends at the home.

EDNA M. BRAYBOY
LAKE CITY — Edna Moore Brayboy, 86, widow of Rush T. Brayboy, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Carolinas Hospital in Florence.
Born Nov. 21, 1915, in Olanta, she was the mother of Blanch Brayboy of Lake City.
The family will receive friends at the home, 125 Redus Barr St. in Lake City.
Services will be announced by Green’s Funeral Home of Lake City.

JOHN H. WOODS
TURBEVILLE — John Harold Woods, 76, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
He was born March 7, 1927, in Clarendon County.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, evangelist Ophelia Woods, 2232 William Gibbons Road in Turbeville.
Services will be announced by Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home of Manning.

DORIS A. POSNER
MANNING — Doris Anthony Posner, 82, residing with her daughter and son-in-law, and widower of Charles Philip Posner, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, in Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born March 30, 1920, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Annie Bullin Anthony. She was of the Jewish faith.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna D. Gordon and her husband, Chuck, of Manning; three grandchildren, Winsley Anne Hays, Jeffery Dale Junker, and Charles Philip Junker; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Boca Raton Mausoleum in Boca Raton, Fla.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Leslie Gold Foundation, Children’s National Medical Center, 111 Michigan Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20010.

CHARLOTTE — Roxey A. McCullum, 36, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at the House of Mercy. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Charlotte.

EDNA M. BRAYBOY
LAKE CITY — Edna Moore Brayboy, 86, widow of Rush T. Brayboy, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Carolinas Hospital in Florence.
She was a daughter of the late Elijah and Martha Smith Moore. She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter No. 255 and St. John United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, James (Dorothy) Graham of Huntsville, Texas, and J.T. (Marie) Brayboy of Fayetteville, Ga.; four daughters, Mildred Brayboy of Newark, N.J., Blanche Brayboy, Irelious (Arthur) Fleming and Ila Brayboy, all of Lake City; and five grandchildren. A wake service will be held at 6 tonight at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. John United Methodist Church in Lake City with the Rev. Roosevelt Geddis officiating. Burial will follow in McKenzie-Brown Cemetery.
Green’s Funeral Home of Lake City is in charge of arrangements.

FLORA P. BRASWELL
Flora Poulos Braswell died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the Hope Hospice Center in Cape Coral, Fla.
