DAYLE PHILLIPS BEAN
LYNCHBURG – Dayle Phillips Bean, 57, wife of John Foster Bean, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews, N.C., after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Lynchburg. Burial will follow at Lynchburg Presbyterian Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Dayle’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.K. Phillips Sr. of Lynchburg.
Dayle graduated from Furman University with a B.A. in music education. She was employed by Carolina Medical Center of Charlotte for 28 years. She was a member of the Queen Charlotte Chapter of the Sweet Adelines Inc. for seven years. She was also a member of the Rock and Roll Oldies Club of the Carolinas. Dayle loved cats and was especially fond of the beach and the mountains.
Besides her husband and parents, Dayle is survived by a large and loving family; a son, Dennis (December) Bean of Huntersville; three daughters, Kelleigh (Bruce) Huneycutt of Lynchburg, Brantlee (Tim) Paris of Charlotte, and Jessica Bean of the home; two grandsons, Chad and Brandon Huneycutt; three granddaughters, Sophie Bean, Madison Paris and Savannah Huneycutt; a brother, Billy (Cathy) Phillips of Florence; two sisters, Debbie (Talmage) Askins of Lake City and Pandy (Roy) Stewart of Manning; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210, or to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 188, Lynchburg, SC 29080.
Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of the arrangements.

AMY M. ECKLES
FLORENCE — Amy M. Eckles, 73, died June 2, 2003, at McLeod Health.
Born May 26, 1930, in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Bertha Perkins Eckles.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 2316 W. Paul Jones Road, Florence 29541.
Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary Inc.

LILLIE BELL FORTUNE
BISHOPVILLE — Lillie Bell Fortune died May 30, 2003, at Carolina Hospital in Hartsville.
Born Aug. 2, 1931, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Ben Fortune and Marie Isaac Fortune. She was a member of New Zion AME Church.
Survivors include one aunt, Mrs. Carrie Bradley of Bishopville; a special cousin, Mrs. Louise Mack of Bishopville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at New Zion AME Church, Bishopville, with the Rev. F. Spears officiating. Burial will be in Broad Branch Cemetery in Bishopville.
The funeral procession will leave at 12:45 p.m. from the home, 3843 St. Charles Road, Bishopville.
The family will receive friends at the home, 3843 St. Charles Road, Bishopville.

ADDIE B. GLOVER
Addie Bell Bradley Glover, of 2020 Patton Road, widow of Mr. Willie A. Glover, died May 31, 2003, at the Wesley Long Hospital, Greensboro, N.C.
She was born Sept. 21, 1935, in Sumter County. Mrs. Glover was educated in the public school system of Sumter County. At an early age, she joined Mulberry Baptist Church. While worshiping at Mulberry, she was a very active member and was a member of the gospel choir. Mrs. Glover was employed for many years as a sewing machine operator at the Pioneer Sewing Co.
Survivors include one son, Mr. Willie J. Glover and his wife, Doris, both of Sumter; four daughters, Mrs. Sarah Heyward of Sumter, Mrs. Betty Romeo and husband, Joseph, of Charleston, Mrs. Ella Ree Fortune and husband, Daryle, of Mayesville, and Mrs. Linda Jacabs and her husband, Dwight, of Greensboro, N.C.; three brothers, Mr. Walter Bradley Jr., Mr. Norman Bradley and wife, Frances, and Mr. Larry Bradley and wife, Maggie, all of Sumter; three sisters, Mrs. Janie Lou McKnight, Mrs. Julia Glover and husband, Paris, and Ms. Willie Alma Bradley, all of Sumter; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mulberry Baptist Church, Sumter, with the Rev. O.S. Scott, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. C.H. Davis and the Rev. Leroy T. James. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 2020 Patton Drive, Sumter.
Viewing will take place today from 1 to 9 p.m. and again Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.
Community Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

MARY Y. LATIMER
BISHOPVILLE — Mary Merritt “June” Yarboro Latimer, 88, widow of Robert Stephen Latimer Jr., died Monday, June 2, 2003.
Born in Marion County, she was a daughter of the late William Jordan Yarboro and the late Julia Mary Merritt Yarboro. She was a member of Bishopville Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, elder, member of the choir, member of the ladies Bible class, and a Sunday school teacher. She was presented with honorary life membership of the Women of Bishopville Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Coker College and a former teacher. She was a former member of the Library Board and Pilot Club, American Legion Auxillary and the DAR. She was also the former owner of the Lee County Messenger.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Stephen Latimer III and his wife, Beth, of St. Helana Island and John Yarborough Latimer and his wife, Patricia, of Bishopville; two daughters, Kathryn Latimer Welch and her husband, Benny, of Bishopville and Lian Latimer Folsom and her husband, Glenn, of Camden; three sisters-in-law, Laura Latimer of Bishopville, Helen Yarborough of Mullins and Margaret Yarboro of Wilmington, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Bishopville Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Bishopville Presbyterian Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son, John Latimer, 301 N. Lee St., Bishopville.
Memorials may be made to the Bishopville Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 464, Bishopville, SC 29010.

MILDRED J. BRUNSON
SUMMERTON — Mildred Juanita Brunson, 80, widow of Charlie Brunson Sr., died June 2, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.
Born May 21, 1923, in Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Filmore and Florence McFadden Filmore.
The family will receive friends at the home of her niece, Mickney Coulette, 1450 Moses Dingle Road, Summerton.
Services will be announced by King Funeral Home of Summerton.

INGRAM RUSH
OLANTA — Ingram “Hambone” Rush, 77, husband of Beatrice O’Neal Rush, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Lake City Healthcare Center, Scranton.
Born Nov. 25, 1925, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Wesley William Rush and Vermell McFadden Rush. He attended the public schools of Clarendon. He was a farmer all of his life. He was a lifelong member of Oak Grove AME Church, where he was a former member of the steward board.
Survivors include two sons, Felix (Jackie) Singletary of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Stanley (Elthean) Fulmore of Olanta; one sister-in-law, Itlean McElveen of Olanta; three brothers-in-law, Bill (Barbara Ann) McDowell of Oxford, N.C., Keith Rose of Sumter and Clarence White of Philadelphia; four sisters, Nancy McFadden and Mozell S. Rose, both of Olanta, Bessie Lee White of Sumter and Lucille (Harry) McKenzie of Turbeville; and two grandchildren.
The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Oak Grove AME Church, Burnt Branch Road, Turbeville, with the Rev. Oliver Davis, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Samuel Burgess and Evangelist Minnie Pearl Johnson.
Burial will be in Old McFadden Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1230 Park Ave., Olanta.

FRANCIS J. COBURN
Francis Jewel Coburn, age 83, wife of the late Herbert M. Coburn, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Sumter County, a daughter of the late Melvin Maxwell Moore and Daisy Mae Boyce Moore. She was the manager of the school cafeteria at the Croswell Drive Elementary School in District 17 school system and the Mayesville Institute in District 2 school system. She was a member of the Sheppard Center and attended the Open Bible Fellowship Church.
Surviving are one son, Stanley Dermont Berry of Riverside, Calif.; one daughter, Jewel Janette Marcoux of Pinewood; and one sister, Geraldine O’Neal of Rockingham, N.C.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Melvin Moore and Don Osborne Moore.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Sumter Cemetery with Dr. Clay Weeks officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home to handle the arrangements.

JOANN DuBOSE
MANNING — JoAnn DuBose, 53, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at her home in Manning.
Born July 4, 1949, in Ft. Valley, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Harold Charlton and Edna Mae Morris DuBose. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and received a master’s degree from Clemson University. She was a sixth-grade school teacher with Clarendon School District 2 and a member of Manning United Methodist Church. She formerly taught in the Greenville County Public Schools. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
She is survived by one brother, William H. “Sonny” DuBose of Columbia; one niece, Sabre Simone DuBose of Woodstock, Ga.; two nephews, Dr. Jon DuBose and wife, Stefanie, of Greenville, N.C., and Chris DuBose and wife, Natalie, of Suwanee, Ga.; three great-nieces, Abbey, Lauryn and Hannah DuBose; one great-nephew, Ashby Lee DuBose; and beloved sister-in-law, Joan DuBose of Anderson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Manning United Methodist Church. The Revs. Debra Quilling, Murrah Gibbons and Fred Treaster will officiate. Burial will follow in the New Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Maxie Knowlton, Terry Benton, Winston Hodge, Tommy Infinger, Benton Blakeley and Don Morris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Coker, Wadene Morris, Bill DuBose, Phillip Morris, Roger Morris and Tommy Benton.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and other times at the home of Gloria Eanes, 644 Woodside Drive, Manning.
Memorials may be made to the Manning United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 68, Manning, SC 29102.
Stephens Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of the arrangements.

BESSIE M. HICKS
Bessie M. Hicks, 76, wife of David Hicks, died May 31, 2003, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 26, 1926, in St. Charles, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Ella Carter McCants. She attended the public schools of Sumter. At an early age, she was baptized and became a member of the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church for more than 50 years, where she served faithfully on the pastor’s aide, building fund committee, willing workers and the mass and senior choirs. She also served as vice president of Bible study and as a senior council at the YWCA domestic violence.
Survivors besides her husband include four sons, Wilbert Hicks of Bronx, N.Y., Cleo Hicks of Washington, D.C., Bruce Hicks of Jersey City, N.J., and Steven Hicks of Columbia; one sister, Mattie Wilson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three daughters-in-law, Darcell Hicks, Sharon Hicks and Gail Hicks; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four nephews; two nieces; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one son, David Hicks Jr.; and one sister, Emma Washington.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter, with the Rev. Larry C. Weston, pastor, assisted by the Revs. Al Barker, Kenneth Choice, James Jackson and Minister Priscilla Loney. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sumter.
The body will lie in state Saturday at noon.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 48 Larkin St., Sumter.
Job’s Mortuary Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

MARYTEE H. PEACOCK
Marytee Hough Peacock, 94, wife of the late William Jake Peacock, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at a local nursing home.
Mrs. Peacock was from Scottsboro, Ala.
She was survived by a daughter, Margie Moss of Asheville, N.C.; two sons, Bill Peacock and wife, Ann, of Rockville, Md., and John Peacock of Panama City, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Scottsboro Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Monday.
Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.

CARNELL MOSES
MAYESVILLE — Carnell Moses died June 2, 2003, at his residence in Mayesville.
Born in Sumter County on April 15, 1959, he was a son of the late Frank Moses Sr. and Lorena Benbow Moses.
The family will receive friends at the residence of 310 Wilson St., Mayesville.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later time by the Palmer Memorial Chapel.

FLARIE L. BIRCHALL
Flarie Lea Birchall, 68, widow of Robert Birchall, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the Regency Hospital in Florence.
Born in Millen, Ga., she was a daughter of the late George Thomas Rewis and the late Mary Ruth Benson Rewis Thompson.
Mrs. Birchall was associated with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Ann Byrd and Brenda Taylor, both of Sumter; three brothers, Charles Rewis of Sumter, Billy Joe Rewis of Chester, Pa., and Robert Brooks of Summerville; a sister, Gloria McLeod of Sumter; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George T. Rewis Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with Mr. Abraham Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
