SARAH R. NATHANIEL
Mrs. Sarah Richardson Nathaniel, widow of Mr. Jimmy Nathaniel, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
A daughter of the late Mr. Demond Richardson and Mrs. Rovenia Colclough, she was born Oct. 6, 1928, in the Sand Hills of Pinewood, Sumter County. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. She was a member of Olden Chapel UME Church in Sumter, where she served as president of the missionary society, a member of the gospel choir, pastor’s aide club, stewardess board, president of the junior missionary society, willing workers ministry, and a class leader. She also was a member of the Jets Social Club and the Golden Heart Social Club.
Survivors include six sons, Joe Motten Jr. and wife, Margurite, Perry Motten and wife, Sharon, Jimmy Nathaniel Jr., Windfred Nathaniel, Eric Motten and Alonzo Colclough, all of Sumter; eight daughters, Deloris Hall and husband, Winston, of Baltimore, Maxine Witherspoon, Maxine Nathaniel, Gale Player and husband, Sammie, Adurey Maple and husband, Van, Kim Motten, Helena Mobley and Jamilia Abrams and husband, Chris, all of Sumter; seven brothers, Willie Colclough and wife, Elizabeth, Henry Robinson and wife, Mariam, both of Baltimore, Frank Robinson and wife, Virginia, Sammie Lee Robinson and wife, the Rev. Annette, Ben Rivers and wife, Inez, Robert Rivers and Leon Robinson, all of Sumter; two sisters, Lucille Johnson of Sumter and Martha Moore and husband, Mills, of Atlanta; one additional brother-in-law; four additional sisters-in-law; 28 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Olden Chapel UME Church, Sumter, with the Rev. Gloria Brown, pastor, assisting the Rev. Henry Colclough, the Rev. Joseph Watkins, the Rev. Richard James and Minister Janifer Squire.
Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park, Sumter.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 305 Foxworth St., Sumter.
Viewing will take place at the funeral home today from noon until 9 p.m., again Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until noon, and at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.
Arrangements entrusted to Community Funeral Home.

SHAKEEMA R. SINGLETON
Shakeema Rochelle Singleton, 14, died July 28, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born May 29, 1989, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt Wilson and Brenda Singleton Wilson and Mr. John Mickens. She was a student at Chestnut Oaks Middle School. She was a very loving and devoted teen. She was a member of New Millennium Deliverance Temple, where she sang in the choir. Shakeema accepted Christ in her life at the age of 12.
Survivors besides her parents, Brenda and Roosevelt Wilson and John Mickens, include two brothers, Michael Singleton and Terence Singleton, both of the home; three sisters, Ashle Singleton, Jamyra Singleton and Jessica Singleton, all of the home; one half-sister, Zenia Mickens of Sumter; one half-brother, Tykerious Mickens of Sumter; seven aunts; six uncles; maternal grandfather, Johnny Boone Jr. of Sumter; paternal grandparents, Bill and Ruby Champagne; two nephews; one niece; a very special cousin, Tiffany Boone; two special friends, Larisha Porter and Brittany Johnson; and her favorite teacher, Mrs. Susan Snells.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Betty Boone; and three uncles.
The remains will be placed in the church Saturday from 2 p.m. until the hour of service.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Oasis Praise and Worship Center with Pastor Gregory Dennis, assisted by Bishop George Brown and Pastor Ray Ingram.
Burial will be in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Olanta.
Pallbearers will be Calvin Boone, Patrick Bennett, Earl Boone, Albert Dennis, Leroy Thompson and Reginald Prince.
Floral bearers will be Tytianna Boone, Tymone’ Boone, Breanna Boone, Canesha Youth, Darriell Singleton, Alicia Young and Larisha Porter.
The funeral procession will leave from the home, 1175 Flamingo Road, at 2:35 p.m.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1175 Flamingo Road.

WOODROW W. GALLASHAW
Woodrow Wilson “WW” Gallashaw Sr., age 88, husband of Mrs. Pauline P. Gallashaw, died July 28, 2003, at 8 E. College St., Sumter.
Mr. Woodrow Wilson “WW” Gallashaw Sr. was born on May 11, 1915, in Sumter County, to the late Paul Quincy and Amy Archie Gallashaw. His early education was received in the public schools of Sumter County, where he graduated as valedictorian of Lincoln High School. He was a Magna Cum Laude of Allen University, where he was a charter member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He earned his master’s degree from Atlanta University in history and English. Mr. Gallashaw served as principal for 25 years, first at Dennis High School in Bishopville and later at Hopkins High School in Hopkins. He later taught at Rafting Creek Elementary in Sumter County. He retired after 40 years of service in education.
Mr. Gallashaw was a lifelong member of the Mt. Olive AME Church. He served as Sumter District Church superintendent for more than 40 years and retired as District Church superintendent emeritus. He was the president of the Sumter Lay Organization for several years. He also served as a class leader at Mt. Olive AME Church for many years and was later appointed as emeritus leader of leaders. Mr. Gallashaw served as the Christian education director, assistant Bible school director, Sunday school teacher and church steward. Among Mr. Gallashaw’s distinguished involvements in the community, he was a charter member and president of the North Main Concerned Citizens Organization for 23 years and the precinct manager for 23 years. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, served on the Police Advisory Board and received a certificate of commendation for his service to the police department. Mr. Gallashaw received recognition in March 2003 for his community involvement when the North Hope Center Conference Room was named in his honor.
In 1948, Mr. Gallashaw was credited for organizing the first Lee County-Allen University Alumni Club and was the president of the organization. The first Boy Scout troop of Bishopville was also started and organized by Mr. Gallashaw.
Survivors besides his wife, Pauline Gallashaw of the home, include one son, Woodrow Wilson Gallashaw Jr. of San Francisco; two daughters, Katrenia Gallashaw-Mack of Sumter and Theresa G. Cooper of Rincon, Ga.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and an aunt, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Silas Gallashaw; and one sister, Edna Gallashaw.
Omega service was held Thursday at Palmer Memorial Chapel in Sumter.
The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. today at Mt. Olive AME in Woodrow.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Olive AME Church in Woodrow with the Rev. Timothy A. Johnson Sr., Presiding Elder R.L. McCants, Dr. J. Keith, and the Rev. Roberta Wilson. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
The funeral procession will leave at 1 p.m. from 8 E. College St., Sumter.
The family will receive friends at 8 E. College St., Sumter.

BENJAMIN P. BOSTON Sr.
COLUMBIA — The Rev. Benjamin Pleasant Boston Sr., 79, widower of Ineatha Gathers Boston, died July 30, 2003, at Providence Hospital.
Born Nov. 17, 1923, in Pinewood, he was a son of the late Samuel Myers and Mattie Pleasant Boston.
Reverend Boston was converted at an early age and became a lifelong member of Antioch AME Church in Rimini and later entered into the ministry, serving as pastor of the following charges: Zion Hill/Mt. Olive AME, Pinewood; Mt. Olive AME, Swansea; Antioch AME, Rimini; Mt. Zion/St. James AME, Davis Station, Bethel AME, St. Matthews; and Shiloh AME, Elloree, all in the Central South Carolina Annual Conference. In 1983, he was promoted to presiding elder of the Wateree District of the Central South Carolina Conference. Since then, he has served as presiding elder of the Orangeburg and Manning districts of the Central South Carolina Conference. At the time of his death, he was serving as the presiding elder of the Manning District.
His early education was in the public schools of Sumter County and Baltimore. His higher education included bachelor’s, master’s and divinity degrees from Morris College and Morris College School of Theology, Allen University and Dickerson Theological Seminary, South Carolina State University, Boston University and the University of South Carolina.
Reverend Boston was also an educator in Sumter School District 2 for more than 30 years, retiring in 1983 as the principal of Mayesville Elementary.
Survivors include a son, Osfred R. Boston of Columbia; two daughters, M. Theophila Boston Murray (Alphonso) of Richmond, Va., and Babbette I. Boston of Columbia; a brother, Samuel (Francis) M. Boston of Newport News, Va.; sisters-in-law Martha L. Boston of Bronx, N.Y., Henrietta G. Fields and Mary L. Randolph, both of North Charleston, Dora G. (Melvin) Evans of Clinton, Miss.; a brother-in-law, Ernest (Ossie Belle) Gathers of North Charleston.
He was preceded in death by Benjamin Pleasant Boston Jr.
The remains will be placed in Manchester Elementary School at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Manchester Elementary School, Pinewood, with the Revs. Malachi Duncan, Ronnie Brown, Phillip Mixon, Melissa W. Green and Nathaniel Bookhart officiating.
Burial will be in Manning cemetery in Pinewood.
The funeral procession will leave at 10 a.m. from 35 Neal St., Sumter.
The family will receive friends at 35 Neal St.

DOROTHY W. MARTIN
RIMINI — Mrs. Dorothy West Martin, wife of Mr. Henry “Bobby” Martin Sr., died Aug. 1, 2003, at the Jackson Hospital, Miami, Fla.
Born July 22, 1944, in Pinewood, she was a daughter of Mr. Abraham West and Henrietta Thomas West.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 11589 Governor Richardson Road, Rimini.
Funeral service will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

ELMER A. DUSCH
PLANTATION, Fla. — Elmer Aloise Dusch, 86, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., died July 25, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dusch of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; sons, Bernard Dusch and Thomas Dusch of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; daughters, Madonna Dusch of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Margaret (David) Ingram of Salisbury, N.C., and Maureen (Doug) Jones of Sumter; brothers, Myron Dusch of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Norman Dusch, Clifford Dusch, Guy Dusch of Buffalo, N.Y.; sisters, Eugenia Dusch, Edretta Lehman and Elvira Dusch of Buffalo, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
A funeral service was held Wednesday evening. Interment took place Thursday at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elks National Foundation or Sumter Lodge No. 855 Building Fund.

JAMES R. KENT Sr.
COLUMBIA — Service for James Reynold Kent Sr., 59, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, with burial in Cain Cemetery, Sumter.
Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Sims, Chris Duffee, Jimbo Harrelson, James Blizzard Sr., James Blizzard Jr., Roger Schroppe, Bob McMahon and Jim Kriston.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Kent died Thursday, July 31, 2003. Born in Massachusetts, he was a son of the late George A. Kent and Austra Kushum Kent. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are Elizabeth Shelor Kent; son and daughter-in-law, James R. Kent Jr. and Rachel Kent of Irmo; son, Timothy M. Kent of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter, April E. Kent of Columbia; brother and sister-in-law, Gary G. and Susan Kent of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and grandchildren, James R. Kent III, Colton A. Kent and Benjamin A. Kent.

JULIA G. CURTIS
Mrs. Julia Ann Green Curtis, daughter of Mrs. Carrie Mae Williams, who was reared by Mr. Oscar Green and Mrs. Julia Green, died on Wednesday night, July 30, 2003, at the McLeod Regional medical Center of Florence.
She was born in Dalzell, Jan. 24, 1948. She attended the public schools of Sumter and was a 1965 graduate of the Ebenezer High School. She was affiliated with the High Hill AME Church. She relocated to Newark, N.J., for many years and later returned to South Carolina.
Her survivors include three sons, Samuel Clyde Green of Sumter, Joseph Curtis Jr. (Kisha) of Sumter, and Patrick Curtis of Charleston; two daughters, Pamela Porchia (Michael) of Myrtle Beach and Elizabeth Graham (Tyrone) of Lake City; two brothers, Nelson Porchia of Columbia and Michael Dillard (Gillian) of Newark, N.J.; one sister, Carolyn E. Dillard of Newark, N.J.; and a special devoted friend, Joe Holmes (Daddy Joe) of Sumter; 22 grandchildren; one great-grand; one uncle; four aunts; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the chapel of James Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. Michael Brown of Zoe Fellowship Church of Myrtle Beach officiating. Interment will follow at the High Hills AME, Pastor Rev. M.C. Ragin.
James Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

LEE PACK Jr.
Lee Pack Jr., age 83, died on Thursday, July 31, 2003, at his residence.
He was born in Savannah, Ga., a son of the late Zell Bunton Pack and Lee Pack Sr. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later retired from Santee Print Works. He was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Lee Pack III and his wife, Debbie, of Sumter; three daughters, Betty P. Brown, Kathy Dority and Cindi Newman and her husband, Frankie, all of Sumter; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Pack; and two brothers, Robert Pack and Luther Pack.
Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. John Baughn officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steve Floyd, Jamie Newman, Snapper Newman, Lee Pack IV, Mike Tisdale and Jason Trimnal.
Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Floyd, Eldridge Floyd, George Rabon, Albert Rose and members of The Eastside Baptist Men's Sunday School Class.
The family received friends Friday at Bullock Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. and will receive friends at other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church “ Mission,” P.O. Box 645, Sumter, S.C. 29151 or to Tuomey Home Services, 31 E. Calhoun St., Sumter, S.C. 29150.

MARGARET T. KOLB
Margaret Della Thorne Kolb, 87, widow of James Mack “Son” Kolb Jr., died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at a local nursing center.
Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Howard Thorne Sr. and the late T'Litha Vick Thorne.
Mrs. Kolb was a member of Grace Baptist Church for 75 years. She was also a member of the Cuttino/Alderman Sunday School Class, the Jennie Alderman Bible Study Group, and being an avid reader, was a member of Friends of the Library.
Surviving are two daughters, Corinne K. Poston and Linda K. Newman and husband, Terry; a sister, Virginia “Snookie” T. Montague; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara K. Lemacks; a son, James Mack “Jimmy” Kolb III; six sisters, Hilda T. Whisnant, Thelma T. Raymond, Mary T. Chandler, Kate T. Salisbury, Helen T. Brogdon and Mildred T. Hurst; and two brothers, Frank H. Thorne Jr. and Raymond A. Thorne Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James R. Chandler Jr. and her nephew, the Rev. Dr. Hal L. Salisbury Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 108 Westwood Drive.
Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 219 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, S.C. 29150, or to Friends of the Library, Sumter County Library, in care of Cathy Gilbert, 111 N. Harvin St., Sumter, S.C. 29150, or to a charity of one's choice.

MILLICENT R. HAMPTON
Millicent Ragins Hampton, 84, wife of Vernon Hampton, died July 30, 2003, at Mariner Health of Sumter, East.
Born Jan. 19, 1919, in Pinewood, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Priscilla Richardson Ragins. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and attended Morris College and Wayne State University. She taught in the public school system in South Carolina. After moving to Detroit, Mich., she was employed by the United States government until her retirement. She was an active and faithful member of her church until her health failed. She had a great love for children which she displayed through her time spent with her nieces and nephews.
Survivors besides her husband of 53 years include two sisters, Madge (Richard) Miller and Earlene Simmuels; nieces, Myrtle Robinson, Gloria McKnight, Priscilla Cherry and Yolanda Maclan; nephews, Hugh Ragins Jr., Samuel Prince, Willis Ragins and Wendell Ragins; a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces; great-grandnephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal with Father Mark Riggs. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.
The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the Parish House.
