PAMELA T. GRIFFIN
Pamela Faye Turner Griffin, 48, wife of Joseph “Joby” Griffin, died Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. Turner and the late Margaret Christine Turner Turner.
Mrs. Griffin attended Green Acres Assembly of God and New Start Community Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; a daughter, Stacy Lynn Griffin of Sumter; two brothers, Edward “Pee Wee” Turner and Tommy Lynn Turner, both of Sumter; and a sister, Martha Gomez of Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Collins and the Rev. Dale Turner officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Yarborough, Dan Strickland, D.J. Griffin, Jamie Mount, Wayne Allsbrook, and Frank Howard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robbie McCathern and D.J. Kelly.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home, 4026 Starks Ferry Road.
Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

REUBIN MITCHUM
MANNING — Reubin Mitchum, 87, husband of Carrie Lee Hodge Mitchum, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, in Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born Sept. 8, 1915, in Manning, he was a son of the late Deschamps and Eliza Kelly Mitchum. Mr. Mitchum worked for Clarendon County, the state of South Carolina, and retired from farming.
He was a charter member of Deep Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, deacon and trustee. He was a devoted husband and loving father.
Surviving besides his wife of 59 years of Manning are four daughters, J. Almeita Hovermale, Carolyn Melton, Barbara Alsbrook and her husband, Raymond, and Angela M. Nexsen and her husband, Jerry, all of Manning; a son, Joseph Reubin Mitchum of Manning; a sister, Geneva Richburg of Manning; 14 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Aaron Mitchum; and a daughter, Deborah Mahoney.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. The Revs. Charlie Salter, A.W. Elliott and Russell Riggs will officiate. Burial will follow in Deep Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 11103 Bloomville Road.
Memorials may be made to Deep Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church Women’s Ministries, 3016 S.C. 260, Manning, SC 29102.
Stephens Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

ROBERT WILSON
Robert Wilson, 61, husband of Margaret Dixon Wilson, died Aug. 5, 2003, in Hackensack, N.J. Born March 10, 1942, in Lee County, he was a son of Frank Cooper Sr. of Sumter and Rosa Mae Nunn of Birmingham, Ala. The family will receive friends at 1040 Porter St., Sumter. Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc.

GRAYDON LEROY DOUGAL
Graydon “Grady”Leroy Dougal, 86, husband of the late Lillian M. Conley, died on Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. He was born in Van Wert, Ohio, a son of the late Ira Dougal and Cora L. Beavo Dougal. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a highly active member in missionary work and Bible study translations. He was a member of the American Legion and was a member of the First Southern Methodist Church in Sumter.
Surviving are one stepson, Robert “Bob” S. Conley of Sumter; one stepdaughter, Mary Pollock and her husband Richard Pollack Sr. of Sumter; one sister, Ursula J. Mohr of Van Wert, Ohio; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ellison Evans officiating. Burial will take place in Van Wert, Ohio at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandson, Richard Pollock Jr., Jason Bethea, Eugene Finkbeiner Jr. and members of the American Legion.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 11, 2003, at Bullock Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to The Southern Methodist Missions, c/o The First Southern Methodist Church, 321 Miller Road, Sumter, SC 29150 or to The Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville Tenn. 37214-0800.
The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home to handle the arrangements.

FANNIE PERRY WILLIAMS
Fannie Perry Williams, 81 wife of the late Howard Williams, died Thursday, August 7, 2003, at 735 Olive Street in Sumter.
Born December 21, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Dora Pringle Perry.
She was educated in the Sumter Parochial School. She later moved to Philadelphia where she worked as a certified nursing assistant at Pennsylvania Hospital. At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined Mulberry Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities to include the usher board, lead vocalist on the Inspirational Choir and Senior Citizen Ministry.
Survivors include four daughters, Dora Pressley (Darius) of Sumter, Annie Dinkins (Sidney) of Monroe, Esther Moore and Darlene Gaymon-Tymes both of Philadelphia; a son, Lester Gaymon of Philadelphia; two sisters, Mary E. Perry of Sumter, and Lang Gaymon of Philadelphia; 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, three aunts, three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, seven brothers, two grandchildren, two sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at the Mulberry Baptist Church Monday, August 11, 2003, at 3 p.m. The Rev. Otis Scott Sr., pastor will officiate, assisted by the Rev. William McBride.
Burial will follow in Mulberry Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 735 Olive Street in Sumter.

BEULAH W. AVINGER
HUDDLESTON, VA — Beulah Way Mosier Avinger, 96, of 1181 Lakeside Circle, Moneta, Va., passed away Friday, August 8, 2003, at Bedford Memorial Hospital, Bedford, Va.
She was born in Holly Hill, S.C., on April 5, 1907, a daughter of the late Almon Jefferson Way and Zinnetta Melissa Bunch Way. She was a member of Target United Methodist Church, Holly Hill, S.C., and affiliated with Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, Huddleston, Va. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 48 years and the father of her children, Eugene Tarleton Mosier Sr. of Sumter, S.C.; her second husband, Albert Glenn Avinger of Holly Hill, S.C.; a son, Richard Henry Mosier of Norfolk, Va.; a grandson, Ronald Allen Mosier of Mary Esther, Fla.; three brothers, Almon J. Way, Jr., Lee V. Way and Layford Way; and a sister, Mrs. J.C. Lunan.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean M. Maye Lane and Edward H. Lane, Jr., and Brenda M. Atkinson Douglass and the Rev. Dr. Carl H. Douglass, Jr., all of Moneta, Va., Gail M. Gressette and F. Reeves Gressette, Jr., of St. Matthews, S.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Herbert A. Mosier and Marianne P. Mosier of Navarre, Fla. and the Rev. Eugene T. Mosier, Jr. and Jenny O. Mosier of Paxville, S.C.; daughter-in-law, Janet L. Mosier, widow of Richard Henry Mosier, of Navarre; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; five great, great grandchildren; numerous niece and nephews; and special friends, Roger and Helen Arthur of Bedford, Va.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel, Sumter, S.C., with the Rev. Eugene T. Mosier, Jr. and the Rev. Dr. Carl H. Douglass, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park in Sumter.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2003, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, Sumter.

FRED R. TEW Sr.
INMAN — Fred R. Tew Sr., 75, of 910 Vanessa St., Boiling Spings, S.C., died Friday, August 8, 2003, at Rosecrest of Inman. A native of Ervin, N.C., he was the son of the late Julian O. and Bessie Gregory Tew. He was the husband of Margaret Hobbs Tew.
He was a construction supervisor with Fitton & Pittman Inc., and was a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church in Boiling Springs. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Fred R. Tew Jr. of Columbia; two daughters, Marsha T. Perkins of Glen Allen, Va., and Nan T. White, of Inman, S.C.; and five grandchildren. There are no surviving brothers or sisters.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at Floyd’s Boiling Springs Chapel today, August 10, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2003, at Boiling Springs Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Lee Mabry. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P.O. box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304 or to the charity of one’s choice.
The family is at the home.

ROGER W. BYRDIC
GREELEYVILLE — Roger William Byrdic, 67, died Friday, August 8, 2003, in Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born in Kingstree, he was a son of the late Paul Monroe and Gertie Cantley Byrdic. He was a retired farmer, a member of Greeleyville United Methodist Church, and a member of the S.C. National Guard.
Surviving are four daughters, Cynthia Delores Festa of Italy, Linda Dianne Himsey of Columbia, Pamela Jean Byrdic of Irmo, and Sharon Elizabeth Baddar of Columbia; a son, Roger Carl Byrdic of Columbia; two sisters, Jeretta Brasington of Summerton and Ila Jenvia Laird of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, Pete Byrdic of Conway and O’Neil Byrdic of Kingstree.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Roger William Byrdic, Jr. and Kevin James Byrdic.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. The Rev. Grover Mixon will officiate. Burial will follow in Kingstree Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, and at other times at the residence, 9 Mishoe Street, Greeleyville.

LILLIAN MOUZON WOODS
MANNING — Lillian Mouzon Woods, 88, wife of the late Jack Woods, died Saturday, August 9, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born August 25, 1914 in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Anthony Mouzon and Etta Brogdon Mouzon and stepdaughter of the late Viola Mouzon Davis.
The family will receive friends at her residence 4-D Manning Gardens Apartments, 7 Alfred Henry Street, Manning.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home of Manning.

LEROY RHAMES
SUMMERTON — Leroy Rhames, 68, died Friday, August 8, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning, S.C.
Born July 9, 1935, in Manning, he was the son of the late Wille Rhames Sr. and Sarah Bell Pugh Rhames. He was the husband of Willean Ragin Rhames. The family will receive friends at the home, 1089 Hall Street in Summerton.
Services will be announced by Dyson’s Home for Funerals-Summerton.

SARAH BRAILSFORD BENBOW
SUMMERTON — Sarah “Sing” Brailsford Benbow, 75, wife of the late Booker Tee Benbow, died Friday, August 8, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born June 6, 1928, in the Summerton community of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Harriett McCloud Brailsford.
The family will receive friends at the home of her sister Mrs. Albertine Brailsford, 1151 Festival Drive in Summerton.
Services will be announced by Summerton Funeral Service of Summerton.

LEROY RHAMES
SUMMERTON – Leroy Rhames, husband of Willean Ragin Rhames, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born July 9, 1935, in Manning, he was a son of the late Willie Sr. and Sarah Bell Pugh Rhames.
He was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. He lived in New York City for more than 40 years. He retired after 35 years of service as a porter.
Survivors other than his wife include two god-daughters, Quantasia Scarborough of Bronx, N.Y., and Maeshea Smythe of Laurington, N.Y.; three brothers, Isaac Rhames and Willie Rhames Jr., both of Wilmington, N.C., and Eugene Rhames of New York City; and three sisters, Sarah Smith of Darlington, and Helen Clark and Victoria Farrow, both of Wilmington.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at St. Paul Holiness Church in Summerton, with the Rev. Esther Madison, pastor, officiating. Rev. Madison will be assisted by ministers Quantae Ragin and Ella Johnson.
Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Cemetery, Wilmington, N.C.
Pallbearers and floral bearers will be cousins and friends of the family.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1089 Hall Road in Summerton.
Dyson’s Home for Funerals in Summerton is in charge of the arrangements.

JEFFERY SOLOMON
LYNCHBURG – Jeffery Solomon, husband of Catherine Solomon, died on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after an illness.
He was also the son of Mrs. Ruth Solomon Moore of Lynchburg.
The family is receiving friends at the home, 165 Lee St. in Lynchburg.
Services are incomplete and will be announced by Jefferson Funeral Home in Lynchburg.

GENEVA BELTON HARRISON
NEW ZION – Geneva Belton Harrison, 74, wife of Clifton Harrison Sr., died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at 7241 Blackriver Road in New Zion.
Born Feb. 28, 1928, in the Silver community of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Myers Belton and Eliza Rose Belton Dickson and stepdaughter of the late Allen Dickson.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Thelma Harrison, 7183 Blackriver Road in New Zion.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

CARLISE LUINS DAIMON
Carlise Luins Daimon, 64, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at his residence, 22 White St.
Born March 15, 1939, in Lee County, he was a son of Carlise Daimon Sr. and Marie Hammon Daimon.
The family will receive friends at 22 White St., and the home of his niece, Gloria Scarborough, 468 Allen Drive.
