JAMES WRIGHT
LAKE CITY — James Wright, 77, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at McNair Nursing Home. Born June 9, 1923, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Albert Wright and Marie Canty Wright. The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, 56 James Village Apartment in Sumter. Williams Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.

LEORY WILLIAMS
Leory Williams, husband of Dorothy G. Williams, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends at the home, 2090 Boulevard Road. Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary Inc.

JOSEPH ANDERSON
Joseph Anderson Jr., 79, husband of Eloise Howard Anderson, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Mariner Health Care West Born December 8, 1922, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Joseph Anderson and Sally Lou Abraham Anderson. He was educated in the public schools of Lee County. At an early age, he joined Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church and later moved to New York City where he became affiliated with Emmanuel AME Church. He served faithfully as an usher and trustee until he relocated to South Carolina. He was employed at Ajack Cartergater Co. for 46 years. He was a life member of Alpha Lodge #59. After retiring in 1986, he returned to Mayesville and reinstated his membership with Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church where he served until his illness. Survivors other than his wife include two sons, Bernard Anderson of New York and Joseph Anderson III of Mayesville; a brother, Wash Anderson of New York; four sisters, Carrie Anderson and Rena A. Burrell of New York, Sarah J. Dean of Sumter and Willie Mae Anderson of Mayesville; and 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Bertram Anderson; a daughter, Eva Mae Anderson; a grandson, Jerome Anderson; and three sisters, Anna Mae Douglas, Sallie Samuel and Ella Mae Anderson. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church in St. Charles with the Rev. Willie Lawson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Clyde A. Anderson, the Rev. John Alsbrook, the Rev. Joshue Dupree, the Rev. Willie Anderson and the Rev. Thomas Anderson. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Alpha Lodge #59 of New York City. Floral bearers will be nieces. The funeral procession will leave at 12:30 p.m. from the home at 350 Wilson St., Mayesville. The remains will be placed in the church at noon Monday. Williams Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.

BERNICE ROCK
Bernice Porter Rock, 82, widow of Lander Rock, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Mariner Health Care West Nursing Home. Born March 10, 1919, in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Lafayette and Tama Holmes Porter. The family will receive friends at 955 Oswego Road. Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc.

THOMAS EVANS
Thomas “Babe” Evans, 77, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. Born July 24, 1923, he was a son of the late Simon and Sallie Robinson Evans. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Edna Evans, 653 Loring Mill Road. Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

FRANCES T. GREEN
PINEWOOD — Frances Thomas Green, 68, widow of James Green, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning after a brief illness. Born in Pinewood, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mary Thomas. The family will receive friends at the home, Route 1, Box 655A1, Pinewood. Services will be announced by Fleming Funeral Home of Summerton.

PEARL LONG
Pearl Long, widow of Eddie Long, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends at the home, 910 Mayfield Drive. Services will be announced by James Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

SUSAN I. MONROE
REMBERT — Susan Ingram Monroe, 75, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at a local nursing center. Services will be announced by Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

GREGORY MOSES
LYNCHBURG — Gregory Moses of 697 Atkins Ave. died Monday, June 4, 2001, at his home. Born May 30, 1962, in Lee County, he was a son of Robert Lee and Jessie May Moses. The family will receive friends at the home of his parents, 697 Atkins Ave., Lynchburg. Services will be announced by Jefferson Funeral Home of Lynchburg.

ESTHER B. SHAW
Esther Boney Shaw, widow of Bartow S. Shaw and mother of Bartow S. Shaw Jr., died this morning, June 5, 2001, at her home. Services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.

RAYMOND H. BORDEN JR.
MANNING — Raymond Henry “Reggie” Borden Jr., 36, died Friday, June 1, 2001, in Manning. Born Nov. 29, 1964, in Dayton, Ohio, he was a son of Raymond Henry Borden Sr. and Evelyn Lyons Garrett. He was a construction worker and attended Green Acres Assembly of God in Sumter. Survivors besides his father of Dayton and mother of Sumter include two sons, Eric and Zachary Borden, both of Sumter; a sister, Kristi Hinson of Sumter; and his maternal grandmother, Helen Whisonant of Cincinnati, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Green Acres Assembly of God with the Rev. Donnie Collins officiating. Memorials may be made to Green Acres Assembly of God. Stephens Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

ERVIN S. BOYKIN
MANNING — Ervin Sebastian Boykin, 66, husband of Betty Spann Boykin, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, in Manning. Born Nov. 20, 1934, in Bishopville, he was a son of the late Harry and Frances Deas Boykin. He was employed by the city of Sumter. Survivors besides his wife include four sons, Ervin W. Boykin, Carl E. Boykin and Todd Boykin, all of Sumter, and Steve Boykin of Manning; two daughters, Nancy Meayers and Teresa Hiles, both of Sumter; a brother, Charles E. Boykin of Sumter; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Southside Baptist Church in Sumter with the Rev. Bennie Turner and the Rev. William Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Williamson, Howard Davis, George Ridgeway, Billy Geddings, Billy Price and Marcus Outlaw. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, and other times at the home, 1129 Oriole Circle, Sumter. Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church in Sumter. Stephens Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

BOSTON, Mass. — Frankie Lee “Drawup” Coplin, husband of Susan Alston Coplin, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Laurel Ridge Rehabilitation Nursing Center in Dorchester, Mass. Born Oct. 2, 1936, in Sumter, he was a son of the late William and Sophia Coplin of Sumter. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the St. Christopher Catholic Church in Roxbury, Mass. JESSE HARRELSON
PINEVILLE — Jesse Harrelson, 64, of Harrelson Circle, husband of Pat Robison Moore Harrelson, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at his home. Born Feb. 19, 1937, in Conway, he was a son of the late Van Harrelson and Corean Rowell Harrelson. Mr. Harrelson attended Clarendon County public schools. He was a member of Bonneau Baptist Church. He was a mason, a shriner and a farmer. He was a retired supervisor of operations at Santee Cooper. Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Tommy Van Harrelson and Mike Jesse Harrelson, both of Pineville; four stepsons, the Rev. Roger Lucas of Northport, Ala., Michael Lucas of Sulligent, Ala., Allen Moore of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Billy Moore of Bonneau; two sisters, Dorothy Whitlock of Franklin, N.C., and Thelma White of Manning; a brother, Jack Harrelson of Aiken; a grandchild; and eight stepgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Belle Isle Presbyterian Church in Pineville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the church. Dial-Murray Funeral Home of Moncks Corner is in charge of arrangements.

LEROY WILLIAMS
Leroy Williams, husband of Dorothy Gallishaw Williams, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born April 4, 1949, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Isiah Williams Sr. and Helen Garrett Williams. He attended Sumter County public schools and was a general contractor. He was a member of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include three sons, Jasmine Jamel Williams and Leroy Dixon, both of Sumter and Wesley LaVerne Williams of Columbia; two daughters, Shelia Marie Battle of Huntsville, Ala., and Sylvia Ann Johnson Williams of Copperscove, Texas; a stepson, Charles Willie Wright of Sumter; two stepdaughters, Lisette McCray of Dalzell and Ernistine Gallishaw of Bridgeport, Conn.; five brothers; four sisters; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Marie Williams. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Marion H. Newton, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the home, 2090 Boulevard Road. Job’s Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

LAKE CITY — James Wright died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Ronald McNair Nursing Home. Born July 9, 1923, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Albert Wright Sr. and Marie Canty Wright. Mr. Wright attended Sumter County public schools and was a graduate of Morris College. In his youth, he joined Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Survivors include two brothers, Leon Wright of Sumter and Raymond Wright of Newark, N.J.; and four sisters, Mariam Session of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dorothy Bryant of Chicago, Ill., Flossie Littles of Sumter and Deloris Brooks of Columbia. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Walker Cemetery in Sumter with the Rev. Frank E. Williams Sr. officiating. The funeral procession will leave at 3:30 p.m. from the home of his sister, Flossie Littles, 56 James Village Apartments, Sumter. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister. Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

FRANK CANTY SR.
MANNING — Frank Canty Sr., husband of Leavone Boyd Canty, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning. The family will receive friends at the home, Route 2, Box 731, in the Panola Community of Pinewood. Services will be announced by Community Funeral Home.
