JAMES B. FLETCHER
ALCOLU — James Bennett Fletcher, 90, widower of Gladys German Fletcher, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at his home in Alcolu.
Born Oct. 3, 1911, in Gloucester, Va., he was a son of the late Edward Clifton Fletcher and Mitchie Pierce Fletcher. He was a member of New Harmony Presbyterian Church in Alcolu and a former member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church in Dutton, Va. He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include a son, James C. Fletcher of Alcolu; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. today in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Dr. Gordon Reed officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Windsor Garden Cemetery in Dutton, Va.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to New Harmony Presbyterian Church in Alcolu.
Stephens Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

MARY GREEN
SUMMERTON — Mary Green, 91, widow of Jack Starks, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility.
Born March 10, 1911, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Slander and Nora Green.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mae Pearl and Nolie Caldwell, 1216 Surman Road. Services will be announced by King Funeral Home of Summerton.

OMETA M. HERIOT
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. — Ometa Mack Heriot, 92, widow of Michael T. Heriot Sr., died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in Los Angeles.
Born April 25, 1910, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Rev. John Allen Mack and Amanda Ross Mack.
The family will receive friends at the home, 911 Oswego Road, Sumter.
Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc.

TIMOTHY A. MAGGARD
Timothy “Tim” Allen Maggard, 42, husband of 20 years to Millie Maggard, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in Wedgefield.
Born in Southport, N.C., he was a son of Diane Stidham Clark and the late Robert Donald Maggard. He was a senior master sergeant with 21 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Wedgefield Baptist Church and was chairman of deacons, treasures of church and mission leader.
Survivors besides his wife of Sumter and his mother of Southport include his stepfather, Justin Clark of Southport; a son, Justin Layne Maggard of Sumter; a daughter, Jessica Nichole Maggard of Sumter; a brother, Robert Maggard of Southport; and two sisters, Julie Edge and Christy Clark, both of Southport.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Wedgefield Baptist Church with the Rev. Darryl Davids and the Rev. B.J. Drayton officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the church cemetery.
Jim Allen, Dan Logan, Bob Hinghst, Jeff Doidge, Ike Johnson and David Landry will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to The Wedgefield Baptist Church “Building Fund,” P.O. Box 265, Wedgefield, SC 29168.

LOUISE F. WARD
SCRANTON — Louise F. Ward, 73, wife of Ernest Eugene Ward, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at a Florence hospital after an illness.
Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Evans Webster Jones and Susie F. McLaughlin. She was a retired certified nursing assistant and was a member of Scranton Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star, where she twice served as grand matron.
Survivors besides her husband of the home include two sons, Wayne Ward of Alcolu and Paul Ward of Scranton; three daughters, Jean Thompson of Hemingway and Sandra Barfield and Ellen Tomlinson, both of Lake City; a sister, Lenora Jannell of Alexandria, Va.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harley Jones, Andrew Jones and E.W. Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Scranton Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lake City Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

CURTIS LEWIS
COLUMBIA — Curtis Lewis, 38, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at 1501 Longcreek Drive, Apt. 2502, Columbia.
Born March 23, 1964, in Harlem, N.Y., he was a son of Edward and Linda Lewis.
The family will receive friends at the home of his grandmother, Serena Outing Lourad, 105 S. Sumter St., Apt. 307, Sumter. Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary, Inc.

JOHN HENRY NIXON
GREENVILLE — John Henry Nixon died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002.
Survivors include a son, Wally Nixon of Hillside, N.J.; five brothers, Sam Nixon Jr. of Orange, N.J., Edward, Hazel, James Herbert and Donald Russel Nixon, all of Greenville; four sisters, Annie Mae Brailsfort of Newark, N.J., Laura Smith, Rosa Sumpter and Mary Nixon, all of Sumter; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Stevie Nixon; a brother, James Myers; and a sister, Delores Pauline Nixon.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Reedy River Missionary Baptist Church in Mauldin.
Burial will be in Pinedale Memorial Park.

LOUIS HEARRELL SR.
Louis Hearrell Sr., 80, husband of Gretcheon Boykin Byrd Hearrell, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in Orlando, Fla.
Funeral services will be announced by the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

LULA MAE BROWN
Lula Mae Brown, 58, died Wednesday, Sept., 25, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 23, 1943, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Brown and Ethel McLeod Brown. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County.
Survivors include a son, A. John Brown; three daughters, Deloris Brown, Christine Brown and Estelle Brown; a brother, Henry Lee Brown of Sumter; four sisters, Martha Dennis of Rembert, Ruth Richbow of Florida, Nancy Moore of Sumter, and Dorothy Bailey of Florida; and 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Frances Brown, Edward Brown, Herman Brown and Rufus Brown Jr.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Monday at High Hill AME Church, 6780 Meeting House Road, Dalzell. The remains will be placed in the church at 3 p.m.
The Rev. Charmaine Ragin will officiate, assisted by ministers Irene Anthony and J. Elbert Williams. Pallbearers and floral bearers will be friends of the family.
The funeral procession will leave at 3:20 p.m. from the home of her daughter, Deloris Brown, Lot 1B, Plantation Acres, Dalzell. Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BENNIE ARD Jr.
Bennie Ard Jr., 72, husband of Frances Scott Ard, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Alcolu, he was a son of the late Joseph Benjamin Ard and Grace Hodge Ard Lowery. He was a Baptist. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of service as a special agent of investigations and was a certified fraud examiner. He was a recipient of the Congressional Legion of Merit and a member of Who’s Who.
Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include three sons, Charles Ard and David Ard, both of Sumter, and Joe Ard of Coarsegold, Calif.; a half-brother, Richard Lowery of Alcolu; a half-sister, Joyce Robbins of Columbia; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dean Ard; a grandson, Patrick Ard; and a brother, Edward Ard.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Paxville Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Hudson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1044 Stonecroft Drive.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 205, Columbia, S.C. 29204.

DeANDRE T. BELLINGER
DeAndre Tyrese Bellinger, four months old, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, in Sumter County.
Born May 17, 2002, in Richland County, he was a son of Chrystal E. Bellinger and a grandson of Robin “Tina” Frierson.
The family will receive friends at the home, 2400 Edmonds Drive.
Services will be announced by Sumter Funeral Service Inc.

TYSON C. BYNUM
COLUMBIA — Tyson Canty Bynum of the Lucknow community in Bishopville died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Services will be announced by Wilson’s Funeral Home of Bishopville.

MARION JAMES
CHARLOTTE — Marion James, 79, died Monday, Sept. 30, 20002, at Presbyterian Hospital.
Born Sept. 19, 1923, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Peter and Arneatha James.
Services will be announced by Job’s Mortuary Inc.

DAISY H. McINTOSH
SUMMERTON — Daisy H. McIntosh, 68, widow of H.L. McIntosh Sr., died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at her home.
Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late C.B. Howell and Beulah Irene Andrews Howell.
Survivors include three sons, Harrison McIntosh Jr. and his wife, Angie, Ronald Steve McIntosh and his wife, Linda, and Ned A. McIntosh and his wife, Deborah, all of Manning; two daughters, Barbara McIntosh Witherspoon and her husband, Roy, of Summerton and Debbie McIntosh Wilk and her husband, Jan, of Manning; two sisters, Jennie H. Thompson of Myrtle Beach and Sara H. Langston of Columbia; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, W.L. Howell, Ralph Howell and James Howell; and a sister, Grace Hicks.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Summerton Baptist Church with the Revs. Tom Mellette and Rob Pierce officiating.
Burial will be in Brewington Cemetery in Clarendon County.
Brad McIntosh, Lee McIntosh, Ronnie McIntosh, Mark McIntosh, Billy Wheeler and Jimmy Jordan Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 1475 Moses Dingle Road, Summerton.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Association, 60 Bay St., Suite 401, Staten Island, N.Y. 10301 or to the Summerton Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 98, Summerton, S.C. 29148.

MANNING — Roosevelt Pearson, 103, widower of Maggie Montgomery Pearson and Rosa Smith Johnson Pearson, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born in the Freetown section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Henry Pearson and Anna Liza Johnson Pearson.
The family will receive friend at the home, 1070 Costello Road, White Oaks section of Manning.
