PARIS CHOCKLEY -- Paris Lemard "Sid" Chockley, 66, husband of Linnie B. Welch Chockley, died Wed., Aug. 8, 2001, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Charles Readling and the Rev. Raymond Shaw, were held Sat., Aug. 11, 2001, at Matthews Tabernacle Church in Lake City with full military honors. Burial, directed by Stephens Funeral Home, followed at Lake City Memorial Park. Born May 7, 1935, in Camden, IL, he was a son of the late Marvin and Julia McKinley Chockley. He was a retired truck driver for Suburban Propane Gas Co., a US Army veteran of the Korean War and the Gulf War and was retired from the SC National Guard 1052nd Transportation Co. Survivors are: his wife of Lake City; five sons, Ricky and Gary Chockley of Lake City; David Chockley of Paxville; Larry Chockley of Manning; and Perry Chockley of Marion; three daughters, Julia Goins of Greeleyville; Sarah Timmons of Manning; and Sherry Harrell of Lake City; and two brothers, Wayne Chockley of Rushville, IL; and James Chockley of Burlington, IA.

NELL OWENS -- Mrs. Nell Huggins Owens, 81, widow of Odell Louis "Johnny" Owens, died Thurs., Aug. 9, 2001, at her residence. Funeral services were held Sat., Aug. 11, 2001, at the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at the Lake City Memorial Park. Mrs. Owens was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Herbert Allison and Rosa Hazelden Huggins. She was a homemaker and a member of Terrellıs Church of God of Prophecy. Survivors are: two sons, Glenn Owens of Beaufort and Herbie Owens of Kingstree; three daughters, Linda Miller of Lake City; Marlene Litchfield of Moncks Corner; and Rosa Wilson of Andrews; and three sisters, Libby H. Floyd and Mable H. Hyman, both of Florence; and Betty Jean H. Driggers of Turbeville.

RETHA STAGGERS -- Funeral services for Evangelist Retha Mae Staggers were held Sun., Aug. 5, 2001, at Pentecost Evangelistic Outreach Center in Kingstree, conducted by Bishop J. Bernard McCray and Apostle Phillip O. Coleman. Burial followed at Goodwill Baptist Churchyard Cemetery in Cades directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Evangelist Staggers died Tues., July 31, 2001, at Charleston Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 10, 1936, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late James and Anna Green Staggers. She was married to Curtis Strong and the Rev. Hazel Davis. She was employed as a certified nursing assistant and worked for Community Long Term Care, Home Health Care, Tuomey Regional Medical Center and as a private home duty nurse. She sang with gospel groups. Survivors are: two daughters, Lisa Michelle Strange-Kinard of Sumter; and Phyllis E. Davis of Germany; one sister, Mary Katherine Isaac of Sumter; one brother, John L. Scott of Kingstree; and three step-sisters, Emma Eaddy, Almeta Chatman and Idell Weeks.

HAROLD WATFORD -- Harold Eugene (Hal) Watford, Jr., 33, died Sat., Aug. 11, 2001, from injuries received in an accident. Funeral services were held Mon., Aug. 13, 2001, at Kingstree United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mr. Watford was born in Georgetown, a son of Dorothy Taylor Watford and Harold E. Watford, Sr. He was a graduate of Andrews High School and was manager of Watford Welding Co. in Kingstree. He was a member of Piney Forest Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his parents of Kingstree, are: his wife, Dana Moore Watford of Kingstree; one son, Hunter Watford of Kingstree; one brother, Wendell Watford of Andrews; and his grandparents, B. B. and Retha Watford of Andrews; and Melba Taylor of Andrews.

CHRISTINE FRIERSON -- Mrs. Christine King Frierson, 89, widow of James Cecil Frierson, died Sat., Aug. 11, 2001, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Tues., Aug. 14, 2001, at Mouzon Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Burgess Cemetery. Mrs. Frierson was born in Greeleyville, a daughter of Sidney Nelson King and Patty Mouzon King. She was a 1931 graduate of Kingstree High School. She was a charter and active member of Mouzon Presbyterian Church. She was a newspaper correspondent for many years and owned and operated a store in the Mouzon Community for 15 years. Survivors are: three sons, Cecil Jackson Frierson of Olanta; Leslie King Frierson of Lake City; and Richard Nelson Frierson of Kingstree.

HARRY RICHBURG -- Harry L. Richburg, 84, a retired captain with the Kingstree Fire Department, died Fri., Aug. 10, 2001, at a Conway Hospital. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Larry C. Tomlin and the Rev. Matthew Jones, were held Aug. 12, 2001, at Garden City Baptist Church. Burial with Masonic rites, directed by Graham Funeral Home, followed at Ocean Woods Cemetery in Myrtle Beach. Mr. Richburg was born April 7, 1917, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Barnum Culer Richburg and Aulsie Tyson Richburg. He retired from the fire department in 1982 with 26 years of service. He was a 50 year mason of Lodge No. 46 in Kingstree and was a member of the Order of the Amaranth. He was a member of Garden City Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Margaret T. Richburg; one son, Marvin Richburg of Columbia; one daughter, Miriam Myers of Murrells Inlet; and one brother, Luther Richburg of Kingstree.

THELMA McCUTCHEN -- Mrs. Thelma Covington Jones McCutchen, 81, widow of Thomas McCutchen, died Aug. 9, 2001, at Lexington retirement home. Funeral services were held Sun., Aug. 12, 2001, at Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. McCutchen was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Beulah Timmons Covington and Jonathan (Doc) Covington. She was a retired teacherıs aide in the Williamsburg County School System and a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. She was first married to the late Lewis W. (Bud) Jones. Survivors are: one daughter, Doris J. Bumgarner of Pelion; one son, Lewis W. (Joe) Jones of Evansville, IN; two step-sons, J. David McCutchen of Kingstree; and Thomas McCu-tchen, III, of San Antonio, TX; one step-daughter, Sandra M. Hawkins of Greenwood; three brothers, George Covington of Manning; Kenneth Covington and Johnnny Covington, both of Salters; and one sister, Vivian C. Hill of Hamilton, MT.

ANN GRIMSLEY -- Mrs. Ann Mouzon Grimsley, 90, widow of Hayward H. Grimsley, died Mon., Aug. 6, 2001, in a Charleston retirement home. Funeral services were held Wed., Aug. 15, 2001, in the Kingstree United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Scranton United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Grimsley was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Samuel K. and Lillie Thomas Mouzon. She was a homemaker and a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church. Survivors are: two daughters, Dorothy G. Huggins of Hanahan; and Kathleen G. Jones of Johnsonville; three sons, Wil-liam Grimsley of Goose Creek; Bobby Grimsley of Sumter; and Samuel LeRoy Grimsley of North Charleston.

DAVID MOORE, III -- David Wells Moore, III, 24, died Mon., Aug. 6, 2001. Funeral services were held Fri., Aug. 10, at Cedar Swamp Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. Moore was born in Sumter, a son of David Wells "D. W." Moore, Jr. and Lollace McGill "LoBet" Moore. He was educated in Williamsburg County schools and received a certificate in welding from Williamsburg Technical College. He was employed by McGill Farms and was a member of Cedar Swamp Methodist Church. Survivors, in addition to his parents of Kingstree, are: two sisters, Elliott E. Moore and Lauren A. Moore, both of Kingstree; and his grandmothers, Gertrude R. "Frudy" McGill and Rosa Lee Moore.

HOWARD WIGGS -- Howard Lee Wiggs, 73, died Sun., Aug. 5, 2001, in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services were held Tues., Aug. 7, 2001, at Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Tisdale Cemetery. Mr. Wiggs was born in Goldsboro, NC, a son of John and Mary Ellen Brockington Wiggs. He retired as a chief machinistıs mate after 23 years of service in the US Navy. He was a member of Dorchester Waylyn Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Betty Lou McCrea Wiggs of North Charleston; one daughter, Delores S. Ayer of North Charleston; and one son, Howard L. Wiggs, of North Charleston.
