JOAN ADAMS -- Mrs. Joan Price Adams, 66, widow of James Edward Adams, Sr., died Monday, January 7, 2002, in a Kingstree nursing home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 9, 2002, at Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Adams was born in Lake City, a daughter of the late William Luther Price and Mable Matthews Price. She was a graduate of Lake City High School and was a member of Kingstree Second Baptist Church and the Womenıs Missionary Union of the Church. For the past several years she served as President of the Williamsburg Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors are: two daughters, Alger A. Jones of Darlington; and Vivian A. Moore of Kingstree; two sons, James Edward Adams, Jr. and William Matthew Adams, both of Kingstree; four sisters, Ila Louise McCoy and Frances Cogburn, both of Florence; Elizabeth Chapman of Greenville; and Mable Draughn of Colorado Springs, CO; and one brother, William Luther Price, II, of Irmo.

LUCILLE THAMES -- Mrs. Lucille Sauls Thames, 82, wife of the late Brown David Thames, Sr., formerly of Raleigh, NC and Cades, died Friday, January 11, 2002, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 13, 2002, in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel in Lake City. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, was held Monday, January 14, 2002. Mrs. Thomas was born in Russellville, SC, a daughter of the late Ezekiel Sidney and Leona Crawford Sauls. She was a graduate of Lake City High School and retired from the North Carolina Employment Security Commission. She was a member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors are: one daughter, Mary Thames Gooden of Florence; one son, William Sidney Thames of Raleigh, NC; one sister, JoAnne Mauriello of Murrell's Inlet; and one brother, Joseph Crawford Sauls of Surfside Beach.

FRANCES STEPHENSON -- Mrs. Frances Seymour Stephenson, 69, wife of Jimmy Stephenson, died Tues., Jan. 29, 2002, in a Charleston hospital. The funeral and celebration of life service was held Thurs., Jan. 31, 2002, at Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Andrews Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Stephenson was born in Florence, a daughter of the late Wesley and Tencie Seymour. She was a graduate of McLeod School of Nursing and a retired registered nurse. She was secretary and bookkeeper for Jimmy's Sign Service and a member of the Believers Bible Chapel, where she served as Sunday school teacher. She was also active in the children's ministries and Samaritan's Purse. Survivors, in addition to her husband of Kingstree, are: one son, Craig Stephenson of Kingstree; one daughter, Jean Branton of Summerville; and one sister, Dr. Betty Jean Seymour of Richmond, Va.

NATHANIEL McCULLOUGH -- Funeral services for Nathaniel "Macky" McCullough, conducted by the Rev. Samuel B. Cooper, were held Sat., Feb. 2, 2002, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. McCullough, 40, died Sat., Jan. 26, 2002, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter. He was born March 29, 1961, in Salters, a son of Mrs. Corine Bells McCullough and the late William "Bill" McCullough. He graduated from Blakely High School in 1980. He was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church. Survivors, in addition to his mother of the home, are: seven sisters, Ms. Pearl Cook and Mrs. Norma Rutledge, both of Salters; Mrs. Libby Frazier of Greensboro, NC; Mrs. Doris McCrea of Kingstree; Mrs. Deloris Middleton of Andrews; Mrs. Lucille Kelly and Mrs. Rosa Mae Kelly, both of Philadelphia, PA; and seven brothers, Leroy McCullough of Kingstree; Benjamin McCullough, Freddie McCollough and Leon McCullough, all of Salters; Johnny Lee McCullough of Bronx, NY; William C. McCollough of Baltimore, MD; and Alfred Lee McCullough of Palm Bay, FL.

SILAS SCOTT -- Funeral services for Bishop Silas Scott, conducted by Junior Bishop William E. Scott and Evangelist Nettie McElveen, were held Feb. 4, 2002, at New Jerusalem Holiness Church, Apostolic Faith in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the Florence National Cemetery. Bishop Scott, 83, a former fish market owner and preacher, died Wed., Jan. 30, 2002, at the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born July 18, 1918, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Rev. Dorsey and Virginia Snipes Scott. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and was a veteran of World War II. He was the founder of the New Jerusalem Holiness Church Apostolic Faith where he served as bishop for many years. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Elma Louise Mitchell Scott of the home; two sons, Junior Bishop William E. Scott of Kingstree; and Isaac Scott of Florence; three daughters, Evangelist Nettie McElveen of Cades; Mrs. Dorothy Ann Shaw of Kingstree; and Diane Adell Scott of the home; two brothers, Luke Scott of Kingstree and Sam McCrea of Darlington; two sisters, Mrs. Lula Mae Barnwell and Mrs. Virginia Mae Lawhorn, both of Rochester, New York; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Nettie Mitchell of Kingstree.

VIOLA COLEMAN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Viola Nixon Coleman, conducted by the Rev. Francis Mitchell, were held Feb. 4, 2002, at the Union Baptist Church in Andrews. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Fune-ral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Coleman, 58, widow of Henry A. Coleman, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Roper Hospital in Charleston. She was born Sept. 30, 1943, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Dea. Govan Nixon, Sr., and Daisy McCray Nixon. She attended Williamsburg County public schools and was a member of Union Baptist Church No. 2. She was a home heath care professional. Survivors are: four sons, Ernest D. Coleman and Soloman J. Coleman, both of Columbia; Jerome A. Coleman of Andrews; and Benton D. Coleman of Marion; one daughter, Latyshia Coleman of Gastonia, NC; six sisters, Ms. Eunice Nixon of Charleston; Mrs. Ann Marie Mondrey of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Daisy Mae Chandler of Salters; Mrs. Vera Lewis of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Mrs. Alberta Green of Andrews; and Mrs. Willie Mae Washington of Bronx, New York; and five brothers, Willie Nixon of Charleston; Jimmy Nixon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Billy Nixon of Summerton; Larry Nixon of Rochester, NY, and Govan Nixon, Jr., of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

ST. LUKE BROWN -- Funeral services for St. Luke Brown, conducted by the Rev. C. W. Green, were held Wed., March 20, 2002, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at McGill Cemetery. Mr. Brown, 65, died Fri., March 15, 2002, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree. He was born November 29, 1936, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late James and Ethel Brown. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was employed for 28 years at Drexall-Heritage. He was married to the late Mrs. Julia Victoria McFarlin Brown. Survivors are: four sons, Gregory Brown of Greeleyville; Gifford Brown, Barry D. Brown and Levar Brown, all of Kingstree; three daughters, Mrs. Kimberly Gilliard of Greeleyville; Mrs. Audrey Myers of Kingstree; and Mrs. Ida Molock of Texas; a special friend, Queen McFadden of the home; and one brother, Isaac Brown of New Bern, NC.

DORIS BROWDER -- Mrs. Doris Phillips Browder, 83, widow of Garland V. Browder, died Tues., March 19, 2002, in a Florence hospital. Graveside funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, were held Thurs., March 21, 2002, in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Greeleyville. Mrs. Browder was born in DeKalb Co., Ala., a daughter of the late Columbus A. and Audra Hartline Phillips. She served several terms as mayor of Greeleyville and was a retired merchant. She was a member of Greeleyville United Methodist Church. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Vivian P. Dyer of Kingstree.

DORA TURNER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Pressley Turner, conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Brown, Jr., were held Thurs., March 21, 2002, at Elijah United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Turner, 63, died Sun., March 17, 2002, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born Aug. 6, 1938, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Keith and Susan Barr Pressley. She was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Hallendale, Fla. Survivors are: one daughter, Jennifer Turner of the home; five sisters, Mrs. Johnnie Ruth Cooper and Mrs. Emma Tisdale, both of Kingstree; Margaret Pressley of Baltimore, MD; Mrs. Lillie Lou Canty of Jersey City, NJ; and Mrs. Mary Cunningham of Norfolk, Va; one brother, Jessie Pressley of Coconut Grove, Fla; and a special niece and nephew she reared as her own, Charlie Cooper and Ruby Williams, both of Kingstree.

BEN GAMBLE -- Funeral services for Ben "Sonny Boy" Gamble, conducted by the Rev. Bernard Paige, were held Thurs., March 21, 2002, at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mr. Gamble, 59, formerly of Kingstree, died Sat., March 16, 2002, at Coler Memorial Hospital, Roosevelt Island in New York, NY. He was born Sept. 7, 1942, in Kingstree, a son of the late Alvin Ben and Rosa Lee Hardy Gamble. He was employed for a number of years as a supervisor with the Catholic Charity of New York. Survivors are: three daughters, Delpinne Vanessa Gamble and Stacey Erica Gamble, both of Brooklyn, NY; and Mrs. Gloria Green-Casey of Atlanta, Ga.; and one sister, Mrs. Ruthena Gamble of Brooklyn, NY.
