GEORGE HINNANT, SR. -- Funeral services for George Allen Hinnant, Sr., conducted by the Rev. Rodney Foster, the Rev. Thomas Conway, the Rev. Gusta Ganes and the Rev. Elmer Lambert, were held Sun., Jan. 20, 2002 in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed in the Midway Presbyterian Cemetery. Mr. Hinnant, 76, died Thurs., Jan. 17, 2002, in a Charleston hospital. He was born in Wando, SC, a son of the late John Alvin Hinnant and Harriett Hill Hinnant. He attended Berkeley High School and retired after 31 years as Assistant Fire Chief of the Kingstree Fire Dept. Mr. Hinnant was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served on an LST during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. He also retired after 20 years of service with the SC National Guard. He was a member of Midway Presbyterian Church. Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Hazeline Harrington Hinnant of Kingstree; a son, George Allen Hinnant, Jr., of Sumter; and two daughters, Lois H. Mitchum and Melissa H. Woodard, both of Kingstree.

HOWARD McCLAM, SR. -- Howard Milton McClam, Sr., 73, died Mon., Jan. 21, 2002, in Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning. Funeral services were held Wed., Jan. 23, 2002, at the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mr. McClam was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Solomon Fant McClam and Ada Floyd McClam. He was a graduate of Hebron High School and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He attended the First Baptist Church in Manning and was a retired insurance agent. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Daisy Barrineau McClam. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Katherine Hicklin Jackson McClam of Manning and Kingstree; four sons, Milton McClam, Gary McClam, Warren McClam and Walter McClam, all of Kingstree; one step-daughter, Katherine C. Jackson of Manning; two step-sons, Ransome A. Coleman of Spartanburg; and Charles L. Coleman of St. Matthews; and two sisters, Delma McClam and Helen McClam, both of Kingstree.

RUTH HENRY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth A. Purvis Henry, conducted by the Rev. Sam Cooper, were held Fri., Jan. 18, 2002, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mrs. Henry, 72, died Sat., Jan. 12, 2002, at the Women's Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. She was born Oct. 12, 1928, in Salters, a daughter of the late Rev. Dottie A. Purvis and Annie Bradley Purvis. She received her formal education at Blakely High School and her license as a beautician from the Fannie Carolina School of Beauty Culture in Georgetown. She was employed as a beautician in the city of Philadelphia, PA. Survivors are: her children, Latrelle Algarin and Nakie Henry of Philadelphia, PA; and Pierre Henry of Chicago, IL; four brothers, the Rev. Eugene Purvis of Freeport, NY; William Purvis of Orangeburg; Thomas Alexander Purvis of St. Petersburg, FL; and John Daniel Purvis of Salters; and eight sisters, Ethel Stokes of Savannah, GA; Claudia Nelson of Tamms, IL; Lucille Burgess of Aurora, CO; Ann Sihr of Salters; Leola Diane Gore of Columbia; Emma J. Purvis of Columbia; Peggy Cameron of Philadelphia, PA; and Dottie Evans of Andrews.

ORRIE PASLEY -- Funeral services for Orrie George Pasley, conducted by the Rev. Jessie Marshall, were held Thurs., Jan. 17, 2002, at Chavis A.M.E. Church in Hemingway. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Greeleyville. Mr. Pasley, 86, died Tues., Jan. 15, 2002, at National Health Care in Sumter. He was born in Hemingway on December 11, 1915, a son of the late Grant and Sarah Emily Hughes Pasley. He was formerly married to the late Mrs. Agnes Williams Pasley of Columbia. He received his elementary and secondary education at Chavis School in Hemingway, and later graduated from Morris College in Sumter, where he received his bachelor of arts degree. He served in the US Army for five years and was formerly employed at Cox-Fritz Dealership in Florence, as a car salesman and was later employed as a chiller operator at Tupperware Manufac-turing Company in Hemingway. He also taught veteranıs classes in Lake City. Mr. Pasley was a member of Chavis A.M.E. Church, where he served in the positions of Steward, Trustee and class leader. Survivors are: his wife, Frances Murray Pasley of the home; two brothers, H.B. Pasley of Orangeburg; and Marion Pasley of Hemingway; and one sister, Edith Mae Hughes of Hemingway.

VERNELL TISDALE -- Mrs. Vernell Morris Tisdale, 82, widow of Hugh Dave Tisdale, died Sun., Jan. 20, 2002, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Tues., Jan. 22, 2002, at Kingstree Memorial Gardens, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Tisdale was born in Andrews, a daughter of the late Honie and Lorraine Wilson Morris. She was a homemaker and a member of Greeleyville Baptist Church. Survivors are: one son, Herman Tisdale of Greeleyville; one daughters, Juanita Stoll of Newberry; and three sisters, Bertie Davis of Andrews; Clara Sowell and Annie Flowers, both of Lancaster.

CHARLIE DISHER -- Charlie Randolph Disher, 79, husband of Linda Holladay Disher, died Fri., Jan. 18, 2002, at Providence Hospital in Columbia. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. John Patrick, were held Mon., Jan. 21, 2002, at the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. Burial, directed by Stephens Funeral Home, followed at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Sumter. Born Jan. 1, 1923, in Alcolu, Mr. Disher was a son of the late Calhoun C. and Maggie Osborne Disher. He was retired from C.P. Chemicals and Booth Boyle Tractor and was a member of Little White Church in Greeleyville. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. Survivors, addition to his wife, are: two sons, Charlie Randolph ³Randy² Disher, Jr., and William Louis Disher, both of Sumter; one daughter, Linda Gayle Nobles of Sumter; two sisters, Louise Browder of Greeleyville and Ruby McCracken of Kingstree; and one brother, Billy Disher of Manning.

JOE PRESSLEY -- Funeral services for Joe Samuel Pressley, widower of Eleanor Bush Pressley, conducted by the Rev. Leonard Huggins, were held Sun., Jan. 20, 2002, at Friendship United Methodist Church in Nesmith. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Nesmith. Mr. Pressley, 68, died Thurs., Jan. 17, 2002, at his residence in Nesmith. He was born in Nesmith on December 24, 1933, a son of the late Samuel Blake Pressley and Cloria McKnight Pressley. He received his education in the Williamsburg County Public School System. He was a farmer and self employed merchant as the owner of Pressley and Sonıs Variety Store in Nesmith. He also worked part-time with Williamsburg County Water and Sewer. Mr. Pressley was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church and served on the Trustee Board. Survivors are: two sons, James Gause of Columbia; and Joe E. Pressley of Florence; one daughter, Mrs. Cloretta Pressley of Nesmith; and four sisters, Mrs. Louise Wilson of Rochelle, NJ; Mrs. Alberta Cunningham of Nesmith; Mrs. Rosa Lee Robinson of Andrews; and Ms. Mary P. Brown of Orangeburg.

HESSIE LOWRAY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Hessie Lowray, conducted by the Rev. Frank James, were held Thurs., Jan. 17, 2002, at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Lowray died Fri., Jan. 11, 2002, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. She was born May 20, 1922, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Sam Scott and Susie Burrows Scott. Survivors are: four daughters, Rosa Lee Lowray of Columbus, OH; Barbara Ann Lowray of Andrews; Dorothy Marie Abel of White Plains, NY; and Tia Teresa Lowray of Charlotte, NC; two sons, Nathaniel and William Lowray, both of Kingstree; and one sister, Mrs. Lida Wilson of Kingstree.

MARTHA BURROWS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Burrows, widow of Thomas Burrows, conducted by Bishop Roosevelt Fulton, were held Mon., Jan. 21, 2002, at Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at St. Mary A.M.E. Churchyard Cemetery in Salters. Mrs. Burrows died Wed., Jan. 16, 2002, at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. She was born Jan. 13, 1939, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Mrs. Mary McClary and the late Solomon McClary. Mrs. Burrows was a member of Evangelistic Way of the Cross Church. She was a graduate of Blakely High School. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Salters, are: two daughters, Constance B. Montgomery and Thomasina Burrows of Charlotte, NC; one son, Michael Shawn Burrows of Charlotte, NC; and three brothers, Thomas Howard McClary of Salters; Marion McClary of Teaneck, NJ; and Clyde McClary of Mount Vernon, NY.

LORETTA McCRAY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Loretta McCray, conducted by the Rev. Joseph Cobin, were held Sun., Jan. 20, 2002, at St. Mary A.M.E. Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Smith-Cooper Cemetery in Salters. Mrs. McCray died Wed., Jan. 16, 2002, at Duke University in Durham, NC. She was born Oct. 21, 1950, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the Rev. Charles and Lillie Mae Henryhand. Survivors are: her husband, Nathaniel McCray of Salters; four daughters, Wanda and Naomi McCray of Salters; Denise McCray Scott and Jennifer McCray of Columbia; two sisters, Willie Mae Anderson of Rochester, NY; and Patricia Darby of Englewood, NJ; and three brothers, Dr. Charles Henryhand of Richmond, VA; Jackie Henryhand of Miami, FL; and Wendell Henryhand of Irmo.
