RUBY GRACE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Lee Conyers Singleton Grace, conducted by the Rev. Amos Matthews and the Rev. Mack C. McClam, were held Mon., April 28, 2003, at the William N. Redmond Memorial Chapel in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at McKnight Cemetery. Mrs. Grace, 76, died Thurs., April 17, 2003, at the Medical University of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. She was born July 5, 1926, in Lane, a daughter of the late Robert Conyers, Jr., and Laura Ann Gibson Conyers. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of United House of Prayer in Richmond, Virginia. Survivors are: one son, Ulysses Singleton of Charleston; one daughter, Jeanette Singleton of Columbia; one brother, Matthew Conyers of Kingstree; two sisters, Mrs. Pearlistine Parson of Lane; and Beulah Mae Conyers of Brooklyn, New York; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

JOE CHANDLER -- Joe Nathan "Joe Fly" Chandler, 44, died Fri., April 25, 2003, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree. Funeral services for Mr. Chandler, conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Brown, Jr., and Elder Keith Nesmith, will be held Fri., May 2, 2003, at Elijah United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, will follow at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Chandler was born Oct. 28, 1958, in Kingstree, a son of Joe Chandler, Jr., and Louise Cornelius Jackson Chandler. He received his formal education and graduated from the public schools of Williamsburg County. He also attended St. Paul College in Virginia. He was a member of St. Peter Way of the Cross Church in Andrews. He was employed by Williamsburg County School District as a custodian. Survivors, in addition to his parents of Kingstree, are: one brother, Kirk O. Chandler of Kingstree; one sister, Mrs. Belinda McCrea of Kingstree; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lillie Jackson of Kingstree.

JOHN SHAW -- Funeral services for John Royster Shaw, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Hermon Gibson, were held Sat., April 26, 2003, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Shaw, 56, a carpenter and farmer, died Fri., April 18, 2003, at his residence. He was born Jan. 9, 1947, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Samuel "Sank" Edward Shaw and Ester Gladys Boyd Shaw. He received his formal education in the public schools of the county. He was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Lou Bertha Washington Shaw of Kingstree; two sons, John E. Shaw and Richard Shaw, both of Kingstree; three daughters, Frances Shaw, Quindella Shaw and Michelle Shaw, all of Kingstree; two brothers, Undry Shaw of Hollywood, Florida; and Robert Shaw of Kingstree; two sisters, Mrs. Georgia Mae Cunningham and Mrs. Doris McCrea, both of Kingstree; his father-in-law, Luther Washington of Kingstree; and ten grandchildren.

LEODA BAYLOR -- Mrs. Leoda Burrows Hyatt Baylor, 74, widow of Luther Deams Baylor, died Fri., April 25, 2003, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Sun., April 27, 2003, at the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Second Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Baylor was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late James M. Burrows, Sr., and Hettie Morris Burrows. She attended Indiantown and Kingstree schools and was retired from Wal-Mart and A&P food store. She was a member of Kingstree Second Baptist Church. Survivors are: two sons, Marion Hyatt of Miami, Florida; and James E. Hyatt of Kingstree; one daughter, Nancy Boan of Rock Hill; two step-daughters, Betty Long of Sumter; and Linda Nesmith of Kingstree; three sisters, Edna Tisdale of Kingstree; Christine Alderson of Columbia; and Frances Roberts of Georgetown; two brothers, Henry E. Burrows of Kingstree; and James M. Burrows, Jr., of Columbia; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Kingstree Second Baptist Church Building Fund.

KENNETH BURCHFIELD -- Kenneth Burchfield, 61, died Saturday, April 26, 2003, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Burchfield, were held Tues., April 29, 2003, at Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Burchfield was born in Alcoa, Tennessee, a son of Mrs. Nellie Crowder Burchfield and the late William A. Burchfield. He was an insurance agent with United Insurance Company and attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Martinsville, Tennessee, are: his wife, Linda Bias Burchfield of Kingstree; three daughters, Sherry Byrdic of Effingham; Loretta Cantlay of Margate, Florida; and Stephanie Pugh of Pawleys Island; one son, Charlie Burchfield of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Wanda Herron of Colum-bia; Stella Williams of Ohio; and Shirley Hutchenson of Spokane, Washington; one brother, Ray Burchfield of Columbia; and three grandchildren.

ROBERT JOHNSON -- Funeral services for Robert Edward Lee Johnson, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Pickens and the Rev. Pat Still, were held Tues., Dec. 31, 2002, at St. Paulšs United Methodist Church. Entombment, with military honors, followed in Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Cain-Poston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Johnson, 76, of Florence, died Sun., Dec. 29, 2002, at his residence. Born Feb. 5, 1926, in Kingstree, he was the son of the late Freenly L. and Marie Guillet Johnson. He was married to the late Ida Elizabeth Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Kingstree High School and received his bachelor of arts and masters in education from the University of South Carolina. He served as principal of Briggs Elementary School for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He served in the US Marines during World War II and in the Pacific. He was a member of St. Paulšs United Methodist Church, president and teacher of the Christian Family Sunday school class. He also served on various church boards. He was a member and served as president of the Florence Optimist Club. He was also a District Governor of Optimist International. He coached and officiated football, basketball and baseball. He was also a Mason. Survivors are: two daughters, Nancy Chandler of Orange Park, Florida; and Lynda Gayle Wierzbicki of Parris Island; two sisters, Marie Anderson of Ft. Valley, Georgia; and Ellen Barker of Columbia; and six grandchildren.

JOE POWELL -- Joseph "Joe" B. Powell, 71, died Thurs., Jan. 2, 2003, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Sat., Jan. 4, 2003, in the Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. Powell was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Hartley and Mamie McKenzie Powell. He was the owner and operator of "Joe Powell House Moving" and "Powell Rentals, Inc." and he attended Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was first married to the late Evelyn D. Powell. Survivors are: his wife, Vera Byrd Powell of Effingham; two daughters, Frances Skvarek of Kingstree; and Bridgett Marie Powell of Columbia; one son, Joseph B. Powell, Jr. of Kingstree; one step-son, Ricky Hughes of Florence; one step-daughter, Sandy Floyd of Cades; one sister, Mary McKenzie of Kingstree; one brother, Hartley Leland Powell of Kingstree; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

HATTIE PARKER -- Mrs. Hattie Barfield Parker, 88, widow of Harvey Parker, died Mon., Dec. 23, 2002, in Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Tues., Dec. 24, 2002, at Williamsburg Funeral Home. Burial, directed Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Williamsburg Cemetery. Mrs. Parker was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Minnie Barfield and Patrick A. Barfield. She was retired from Kingstree Manufacturing and was a homemaker. Survivors are: two daughters, Elise P. Tisdale of Kingstree; and Faye P. Borres of Orange, Texas; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

FLORRIE MIXON -- Florrie Epps Mixon, 83, widow of John A. Mixon, formerly of Kingstree, died Thurs., Jan. 2, 2003, at her residence. Funeral services were held Sun., Jan. 5, 2003, at Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Mixon was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Robert Daniel Epps and Rosa Kennedy Epps. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and a member of Rutledge Memorial Baptist Church and was a former member and Sunday school teacher of Kingstree First Baptist Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Paula M. Billian of Charleston; four sisters, Jane E. Moore and Hazel E. Price, both of Columbia; Margaret E. Finrock and Thelma E. Pendarvis, both of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Kingstree First Baptist Church, PO Box 608, Kingstree, South Carolina 29556.

DAVID McGEE -- David C. "D.C." McGee, 53, died Mon., March 10, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services were held Wed., March 12, 2003, at Cades Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. McGee was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late David Kelly and Thelma Miles McGee. He was a retired carpenter, attended Terrellšs Church of God of Prophecy, and was a member of South Lynches Fire Department Station #4, Cades. Survivors are: his wife, Kathy Faye Miles McGee of Cades; one daughter, Robin Martin of Kingstree; one son, Tony McGee of Kingstree; two brothers, Lexton McGee of Scranton; and Russell McGee of Kingstree; and six grandchildren, all of Kingstree.
