GRIFFIN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Nell Griffin were held Saturday, July 4, 1998, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Frank James. Burial followed in the church's cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Griffin, 61, died Tuesday, June 29, 1998, at White Cross Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was born June 20, 1937, a daughter of the late Eli Tisdale and Emma Strong Tisdale. She was employed with Self Help Community Service in Brooklyn, New York. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Fire Holiness Church in Brooklyn, New York, where she served on the Usher Board and Choir. Survivors are: two daughters, Mrs. Jinnerwease Barr of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Mrs. Barbara D. Wallace of Young's Island; one brother, Willie Edward Tisdale of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Dorsey and Mrs. Patricia Fleming, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her step-mother, Mrs. Ruby Tisdale of Kingstree; and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Clander Griffin of Kingstree.

STEPHENS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Stephens were held on Saturday, July 4, 1998, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Frank James. Burial followed in Crossroads Cemetery in Salters directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Stephen, 33, died Wedneday, July 1, 1998, at Irby Tower in Florence. She was born July 12, 1964, a daughter of Elmer Stephens and the late Callie Rebecca Bellamy Stephens. She was a 1982 graduate of C.E. Murray High School. She was a member of Black River Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to her father of Kingstree, are: three sons, Demetrius Desmaine Stephens; Eric Devon Stephens and Dasean Antwan Stephens, all of Kingstree; four sisters, Mrs. Eula Mae Stephens of Manhattan, N.Y.; Shirley Bellamy of Myrtle Beach; Lucy Ann Stephens of Goose Creek; and Mae Thelma Stephens of Ladson; and her grandfather, Lee Ivory Gore of Loris.

WILSON -- Funeral services for Frank Wilson were held Sunday, July 5, 1998, at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Gourdine, conducted by Rev. C.C. Gordon. Burial followed in McKnight Cemetery in Gourdine directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson, 56, died Thursday, July 1, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. He was born April 3, 1942, in Lane, a son of Mrs. Emma Wilson and the late Alexander Wilson. He was employed as a truck driver. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Greeleyville, are: his wife, Mrs. LouAnna Wilson of Winston Salem, N.C.; one son, John Wilson of Salters; two brothers, Eugene Wilson of Greeleyville and Elijah Wilson of Miami, Fla.

GALLISHAW -- Funeral services for Gillet Gallishaw, Sr., were held Tuesday, June 28, 1998, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Lane, conducted by Rev. Jerome Wilson. Burial followed in Greater Jerusalem A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Lanes directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Gallishaw, 81, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. He was born December 23, 1916, in Lane, a son of the late Moses Gallishaw and Leazanie Murphy Gallishaw. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church. Survivors are: eight sons, Claude Simmons, Robert Gallishaw, Moses Gallishaw, all of Ft. Myers, Fla.; Frankie Gallishaw, Herbert Gallishaw and David Gallishaw, all of Lane; James Simmons of Hemingway; and Leroy Gallishaw of Philadelphia; and six daughters, Mrs. Leazanie Burgess of Lane; Mrs. Victoria Wilson of Hemingway; Carolyn Gallishaw and Tracey Gallishaw, both of Andrews; and Mrs. Ernestine Bland and Mrs. Brenda Cantey, both of Wilmington, N.C.

WALLACE -- Funeral services for Hezekiah Mack Wallace were held Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at Marion Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. Jimmy Brockington. Burial followed in Marion Memorial Gardens directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Mr. Wallace, son of the late George Wallace and Matilda Barfield Wallace, was born November 15, 1908, in Berkeley County. He died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Kingstree Nursing Facility. He was a member of Marion Baptist Church. Survivors are: one son, Charles Linberg Wallace of New York; and one sister, Mrs. Elouise Jones of Salters.

GRAHAM -- Funeral services for Walter "Pete" Graham were held Friday, July 17, 1998, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Kingstree, conducted by Elder Robert Dorsey. Burial followed in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Graham, 80, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at his home. He was born March 17, 1917, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late James "Buck" Graham and Ida Shaw Graham. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was employed by Drexel Furniture Company in Lexington. Survivors are: two sons, Walter Graham and Samuel Graham, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; three daughters, Florine Graham, Mrs. Ida Brunson and Janet Graham, all of Kingstree; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Andrews of Kingstree; grandchildren reared as his own, Larry Graham of Salters; Tereatha Brown, Theodore Graham, Samuel Burgess and Lorine Graham, all of Kingstree; Richardson Burgess of Philadelphia, Pa.; and Ina Burgess of Chicago; two foster daughters, Cowen Tisdale and Bambi Woods, of Kingstree; and four foster sons, Harold Cunningham of Queens, N.Y.; Theron McFadden of Kingstree; Hodges Madison of Atlanta, Ga.; and Darren Dicks of Lake City.

BRIGHT -- Funeral services for Carolina Bobby "Big C" Bright were held Friday, July 17, 1998, at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Gourdine, conducted by Rev. C.C. Gordon. Burial followed in McKnight Cemetery in Gourdine directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Bright, 40, died Friday, July 10, 1998, in Greenville. He was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Willie Bright and Stinia McDowell Bright. Survivors are: five sisters, Mrs. Acie Childers of Greeleyville; Mrs. Rose Morris of Andrews; Mrs. Mary Mack, Mrs. Deloris Boone, and Mrs. Janice Bright, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and four brothers, Willie Bright of Rock Hill; Calvin Bright and Elvis Bright, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Arthur Bright of Lane.

JOHNSON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Lue Tisdale Johnson were held Sunday, July 19, 1998, at New Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Herman Gibson. Burial followed in the church's cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnson, 61, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. She was born September 29, 1936, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Manson Tisdale and Mary Scott Tisdale. She was employed as a housekeeper in the hotel industry. She was a member of New Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors are: three sons, William Lee Johnson and Olin Johnson, both of Kingstree; and Ronald Johnson, Jr., III of Rochester, N.Y.; one daughter, Mrs. Joan Lewis of Kingstree; four brothers, Manson Tisdale, Wilbur Lewis Tisdale, Jerome Tisdale and Jessie James Tisdale, all of Rochester, N.Y.; and two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Blueford of Nesmith; and Mrs. Aurgie Johnson of Miami, Fla.

MATTHEWS -- Funeral services for Willie Matthews, Jr. were held Wed., July 15, 1998, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Amos Matthews. Burial followed in Cowhead Cemetery in Salters directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Matthews, 73, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, in Columbia. He was born April 19, 1925, in Lane, a son of the late Willie Matthews, Sr. and Catherine Samuels Matthews. Survivors are: his step-mother, Mrs. Bertha Matthews of Salters; five sisters, Emma Lee Matthews, Roberta Matthews, Lillie Mae Matthews, all of Salters; Mrs. Josie Lee McClary of Providence, RI; and Mrs. Ellen M. Small of Baltimore, MD; one step-sister, Mrs. Dorothy Myers of Chester, Pa.; one adopted sister, Mrs. Annie Wilson of Kingstree; and two brothers, Howard Matthews and Fred Matthews, both of Baltimore, Md.

McGILL -- Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Christine Cooper McGill were held Thursday, July 16, 1998, at Elijah United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Rufus L. Snowden and Rev. Frank V. James. Burial followed in the family plot of the churchyard cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. McGill, 61, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at the Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. She was born May 10, 1937, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Friday and Beanie Wilson Cooper. She graduated from Tomlinson High School in 1955. In 1962, she obtained her cosmetology degree from Gordon School of Cosmetology in Hemingway. She continued studying cosmetology at the Cosmetology School of Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1976, she received her bachelors of arts degree in education from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. She was a member of Elijah United Methodist Church. She was also the Church Historian, Recording Secretary and Vacation Bible school teacher. She organized the Elijah United Methodist Gospel Choir and founded the Annual Homecoming Program. She worked as a nursešs assistant with Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York; Syracuse University Hospital in Syracuse, New York; and Saint Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1972, she became a teacher's aid. In 1976, she began teaching second grade. During the school year of 1981-1982, she won Teacher of the Year for the Williamsburg County Education Association and St. Mark Elementary School. She retired from teaching in 1986. Survivors are: her husband, Isaac L. McGill of the home; two sons, Edwin L. McGill of Columbia; and Eric S. McGill of Ellicott City, MD; three brothers, Moses Cooper of Rochester, N.Y.; Mose Cooper and George O. Cooper, both of Kingstree.
