SCOTT -- Funeral services for Elijah "Coffee" Scott were held Monday, August 2, 1999, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Willie Wilson. Burial followed at Kingstree Cemetery directed by McClaryıs Funeral Home. Mr. Scott, a U.S. Naval Veteran of World War II, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. He was born June 12, 1925, in Andrews, the son of the late John and Elizabeth Scott. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Sarah Scott of Kingstree; three daughters, Doris Ann Scott, and Mrs. Brenda Bryant, both of Kingstree; and Mrs. Cozetta Conyers of Charlotte, N.C.; three sons, James Elijah Scott of Greensboro, N.C.; Jimmy Dean Scott of Atlanta, Georgia; and Gregory Scott of Kingstree; three sisters, Mrs. Sadie Thomas of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Mrs. Lilia Darby of Goulds, Fla.; and Mrs. Evelena Scott of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and two brothers, Lincoln Scott of Homestead, Fla.; and Seaman Scott of Goulds, Fla.

STEPHENSON -- Mrs. Margie Moore Stephenson, 77, widow of George Wilton Stephenson, died Saturday, August 7, 1999, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, August 9, 1999, in Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton, N.C. directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Stephenson was born in North Carolina, a daughter of the late Delphi Johnson Moore and Rainey Albert Moore. She was a homemaker and a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Judy S. Tisdale of Kingstree; one son, Albert Stephenson of Fayetteville, N.C.; and two sisters, Margaret Stone of Essex, Montana; and Sally Mullens of Greenville, N.C.

RIDGEWAY -- Jack Robert (Buck) Ridgeway, 63, died Wed., June 2, 1999, in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 5, 1999, in Suttons United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Ridgeway Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Ridgeway was born in Salters, a son of the late John Robert Ridgeway and Mattie Alice Cottingham Ridgeway. He was an employee of Martin-Marietta Company, a retired farmer and a member of Suttons United Methodist Church. Survivors are: his wife, George Anne Thomas of Andrews; three daughters, Phyllis R. Mitchum of Moncks Corner; Jackie R. Elliott of Andrews; and Robin R. Howard of Sevierville, TN; one brother, Charles R. Ridgeway of Andrews; and four step-daughters, Carolyn Sprunger of Corpus Christi, TX; Crystal Marie Thomas of Andrews; Trudy Renee Kirkpatrick of Lusby, MD; and Mickey Cooper of Carlton, VA.; and three step-sons, James Thomas of Georgetown; Clarence Thomas of Suttons; and Daniel E. Cooper of Tabb, VA.

PARNELL -- Harry Branford Parnell, Sr., 73, died Friday, June 4, 1999, in a Conway hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, June 7, 1999, in Millwood United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Tisdale Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Parnell was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Branford H. Parnell and Ollie Stone Parnell. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and attended Williamsburg Technical College. He was a farmer, a 40 year Mason, a veteran of World War II, former Boy Scout leader and member of Millwood United Methodist Church, where he had served as youth fellowship leader. Survivors are: one son, Harry B. Parnell, Jr. of Surfside Beach; one daughter, Jeannie P. Williams of Panama City, FL; and one brother, Alton C. Parnell of Supply, North Carolina.

COOPER -- Funeral services for Sandtwan Lashette Cooper were held Saturday, June 5, 1999, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Gourdine, conducted by Rev. Moses Brown and Rev. Jerome Wilson. Burial followed in the churchıs cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Miss Cooper, 24, died Monday, May 31, 1999, in Berkeley County. She was born April 19, 1975, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Mildred Cooper and Timothy Dukes. She was a 1993 graduate of C. E. Murray High School. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Morris College in Sumter in 1998. She was employed with the United Parcel Services in Columbia. Survivors, in addition to her parents, are: one brother, James Cooper of Kingstree; four sisters, Rosemary Pasley and Cynthia Cooper, both of Columbia; Mrs. Mary Thomas and Valerie Cooper, both of Lane; her paternal grandmother, Mary Dukes of Lane; and paternal grandfather, Samuel Dukes of Greeleyville.

COOPER -- Funeral services for James Wade Hampton Cooper were held Saturday, June 5, 1999, at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Lake City, conducted by Rev. Hayes T. Gainey. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Cooper, 66, died Sunday, May 30, 1999, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was born May 26, 1936, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Timothy Cooper and Reatha Cooper. He continued his education at Tomlinson High School in Kingstree. He moved to New York in 1966, where he worked as a carpenter. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Fields Cooper; one brother, Lowell Cooper; and three sisters, Velaria Nesmith, Velva Cooper and Mrs. Jean Stewart.

McDANIEL -- Louin Tendle "L. T." McDaniel, 90, a retired building contractor, died June 2, 1999, in a local nursing home. Funeral services were held June 5, 1999 in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home in North Charleston. Burial followed in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Mr. McDaniel was born in Hemingway, a son of James R. McDaniel and Lugene Ard McDaniel. He was a charter member of Ashley Heights Pentecostal Church. He was the widower of Ethel Cribb McDaniel. Survivors are: six sons, Joseph L. McDaniel of Columbia; Leroy McDaniel, Mitchell McDaniel and Johnny McDaniel, all of Summerville; Andrew J. McDaniel of Fort Mill and Jerry McDaniel of Salters; one daughter, Becky M. Wolfinbarger of Emerald Isle, N.C.; and two sisters, Bessie Mae Crump of Myrtle Beach; and Mildred Nolan of Mount Pleasant.

PARSON -- Funeral services for Robert "Bo" Parson were held on Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Oneal Miller delivered the eulogy. Interment followed in Cowhead Cemetery in Greeleyville, directed by Dimery & Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Parson, age 60, died Saturday, June 6, 1999 in Brooklyn, New York. He was born May 6, 1939 in Gourdine, a son of Mr. Leonard Wilson and the late Mrs. Mary Parson Conyers and was reared by the late Mr. James Conyers, Sr. He attended Williamsburg County Public Schools. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Rose Parson of Brooklyn, NY; two sons, Bryan and Regis; one daughter, Renee, all of NY; three step-sons, Carnell Zeigler, Micheal Cheatham and Gary Cheatham, all of NY; four step-daughters, Barbara Zeigler, Peggy Zeigler, Tawanna Cheatham, Esther Cheatham, all of NY; a step-mother, Mrs. Louise Conyers of Gourdine; three brothers, James Conyers, Jr. and Robert Lee Wilson, both of Kingstree, Emanuel Conyers of Sumter; one adopted brother, Samuel Davis, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Lee Green of Salters and Joan Mary Conyers of Lane; four step-sisters, Mrs. Betty Langston and Mrs. Gloria Williams, both of Sumter, Mrs. Ernestine Hawks of Tucson, AZ and Mrs. Nora Langston of Lane.

DUKES -- Funeral services for Leland Dukes were held Friday, June 11, 1999, at the Trinity Baptist Church in Greeleyville. Burial followed at Whack Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Dukes, 68, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at the University of Baltimore in Maryland. He was born June 17, 1930, in Greeleyville, a son of the late Peter Dukes, Sr. and Susie Mae Hilton Dukes. He worked as a concrete finisher in the construction industry for a number of years. In 1992, he retired from Bowle Smith Lumber Company where he was a machine operator for several years. Survivors are: four daughters, Mrs. Lerenide G. Lovelace and Susie M. Dukes, both of Hampton, Virginia.; Mrs. Costella Margie Brown of Madison Heights, Virginia; and Shirley T. Dukes of Baltimore, Maryland; and four sisters, Mrs. Anna D. Kennedy of Greeleyville; Mrs. Louise Gamble of Kingstree; Annie Dukes of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; and Mrs. Allener Waddell of Wilmington, North Carolina.

DUKES -- Funeral services for Charlie Dukes were held Monday, June 14, 1999, at St. Mary's AME Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. Nathan Morris. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Mr. Dukes died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at his residence in Salters. He was born March 18, 1950, the son of the late James Dukes and Anna Dukes. He was a member of St. Mary AME Church in Salters. He received his formal education from Blakely Elementary and Blakely High Schools in Williamsburg County. He also attended Trident Technical College in North Charleston, where he received his training in truck driving. Survivors are: two sons, Bernard Dukes of Ladson, South Carolina; and Eric Dukes of North Charleston; two daughters, Cathy Dukes and Robin Dawn Dukes, both of Bronx, New York; two brothers, Willie James Dukes of Largo, Florida; and Rev. Julius Edward Dukes of Effingham; and four sisters, Wilhelmenia Wallace of Largo, Florida; Inell Turner of Summerville; Janie Mae Cleveland of Manhattan, New York; and Anna Lee Salters of Salters.
