ROBINSON -- Funeral service for Mrs. Janie Robinson were held Friday, August 29, 1997, at the Church of Christ conducted by Brother Billy McVey. Burial followed in Cowhead Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Robinson, 81, died Monday, August 25, 1997, in Richland County Memorial Hospital in Columbia. She was born June 22, 1916, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Peter Sanders and Rebecca Murray Sanders. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors are: her husband, Manson Robinson, Sr. of Greeleyville; four sons, Ezell Robinson of Greeleyville; Manson Robinson of Columbia; Jimmy Robinson and Louis Robinson, both of Atlanta, Ga.; five daughters, Mrs. Betty Anderson of Philadelphia, Penn.; Rebecca Robinson of Huntington, N.Y.; Loree Byrd and Jannie A. Robinson, both of Greeleyville; and Mrs. Linda Johnson of Houston, Texas; and two sistesr, Mrs. Flossie Gamble of Troy, N.Y.; and Mrs. Mary Sanders of Philadelphia, Penn.

BOWLES -- Bennie Bowles, 79, died Wednesday, August 27, 1997, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Friday, August 29, 1997, in the Kingstree Second Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Bowles was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Bennie and Mary Ward Bowles. He was a retired farmer and a member of Kingstree Second Baptist Church. Survivors are: two sisters, Magdalene B. McClary of Lake City; and Hattie B. Love of Kingstree.

GALLISHAW -- Graveside services for Robert Lee Gallishaw were held Saturday, August 30, 1997, at the Greater Jerusalem A.M.E. Cemetery in Lane, conducted by Rev. Jerome Wilson. Burial was directed Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Gallishaw, 50, died Friday, August 22, 1997, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Born in Kingstree, he was the son of Ezell Dunmore Gallishaw of Lane. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Lane, are: his wife, the former Theresa M. Robinson; one son, Robert Gallishaw, Jr. of Brockton; four daughters, Veleka Gallishaw, Katishia Gallishaw, Anita Howell and Rafae Lynch, all of Springfield; three brothers, Isaac Darby of Philadelphia, Pa.; Thomas McCrea of Ft. Myers, FL; and Willie Lee Chandler of Georgetown; and two sisters, Ruth Ann Harrison of Brockton; and Ernestine Brown of Lane.

JACKSON -- Thomas Lee Jackson, 65, died Wednesday, August 20, 1997, at home. Funeral services were held Monday, August 25, 1997, at Evangel Christian Center. Burial followed in Highland Park Cemetery. A native of Fort Wayne, he had been a missionary to China since 1986. He formerly worked at Navistar for more than 20 years and had been pastor at Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Columbia City. Survivors are: his wife, Brooks Smith Jackson; three daughters, Janet J. Garcia and Adell M. White, both of Fort Wayne; and Jill Paets of Plainfield; one sister, Nancy A. Green of Joshua Tree, Calif.

COOPER -- Funeral services for Alphonso Cooper were held Monday, Sept.1, 1997, at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Lake City, conducted by Rev. Hayes T. Gainey. Burial followed at Doctor James Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers. Mr. Cooper, 67, died Thurs., August 28, 1997, at Carolinas Hospital Systems-Florence. He was born Nov. 20, 1929, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late James Billy Cooper and Alice Minnie Cooper. He attended Morris College in Sumter. He was a retired maintenance worker with Meadow Land Race Track in Rutgers, N.J. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist and attended Faith United Methodist Church. Survivors are: one son, Alphonso Cooper, Jr. of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Mrs. Teresa Vialet and Sharon Cooper, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, James Elbert Cooper of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Herman Cooper of Rochester, N.Y.; and five sisters, Mrs. Kathryn (Mose), Mrs. Harold P. Witherspoon and Mrs. Florence Osborne, all of Kingstree; Mrs. Shirley Sass of Flushing, N.Y.; and Mrs. Annette Brown of Corona, N.Y.

McCUTCHEN -- Funeral services for Alfonza McCutchen, Sr. were held Sat., Sept. 6, 1997, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Willie Wilson and Rev. Willis T. Goodwin. Burial followed in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers. Mr. McCutchen, 54, died Sept. 3, 1997, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. He was born July 13, 1943, in Nesmith, a son of the late Joe A. McCutchen and Dellie Nesmith. He was a graduate of Battery Park High School and attended Roberts Technical College of New York. He was employed as a school bus driver, a farmer and was the owner of Alfonzašs Welding Shop. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church where he served as a former trustee, member of the United Methodist Men and Sunday school teacher. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Sylvia McCutchen, Nesmith; two sons, Alfonza "Donnie" McCutchen, Jr., Columbia; and Shawn Maurice McCutchen, Nesmith; five sisters, Mrs. Edith Nesmith, Mrs. Jannie M. Wilson, Mrs. LaVert Nesmith and Mrs. Florine Edwards, all of New York City; and Mrs. Myrtle Cooper, Lake City; one brother, Leon McCutchen, Nesmith; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mattie H. McCrea, Kingstree, his father-in-law, Hazle McCrea, Kingstree, and his grandmother-in-law, Mrs. Henrietta F. McCrea, Kingstree.

PARSON -- Funeral services for Leroy Vernell Parson were held Sunday, September 7, 1997, at Second Baptist Church in Hartsville. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville. Mr. Parson, 59, died Wednesday, September 3, 1997, at his home. He was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Bryant Anty and Mary Jenkins Bynum. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Enoch Grand Lodge and St. James Lodge #3. Survivors are: his wife, Frances Mose Parson of Hartsville; four daughters, Sheila Wallace and Vernal McDuffie both of Lexington, N.C.; Priscilla Pollard and Toya Troy, both of Hartsville; three sons, Leroy Parson, Jr. and Tyrone Parson, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; and Christopher Parson of Lexington, N.C.; two sisters, Trudy Brown of Charlotte, N.C.; and Marie Edwards of Grandburg, Md.; seven brothers, Brian Bynum of Harrington, De.; Matthews Bynum, Freddie Troy and Leon Troy, all of Philadelphia, Pa.; James Bynum and Erskine Bynum, both of Lane; and Sam Frost of Andrews; and his mother-in-law, Emma Campbell of Hartsville.

MIMS -- Mrs. Perline Coker Mims, 86, widow of Horace Mims, died Sunday, September 7, 1997, in a Lake City hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 10, 1997, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Sandy Bay Cemetery. Mrs. Mims was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Cubie and Deola McKenize Coker. She was a homemaker and a member of Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors are: two daughters, Iva Lee Lois Bingham of Kingstree and Ruth Holladay of Cades; four sons, Theron (Buddy) Mims of Kingstree; Fredmont Mims of Florence, Harvey Mims and Leon Mims, both of Cades; and one sister, Edna Burkett of Hartsville.

MILLER -- George Benjamin Franklin Miller, 90, of Georgetown died September 6, 1987, at his residence. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 11, 1997, at Bethel A.M.E. Church-Georgetown, conducted by Rev. Dr. William Swinton, Jr. Burial followed at Bethel Cemetery. Mr. Miller was born January 14, 1907, in Georgetown County, the son of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth Williams Miller. Survivors are: three sons, Benjamin Miller of Augusta, Ga.; Herman S. Miller of Georgetown; and Robert Miller of Pawleys Island; two daughters, Odessa Ridout and Agnes Smalls of Georgetown; three sisters, Albertha Gillard of Georgetown; Francis Miller Dalay of Ludourici, Ga.; and Gee J. Jones of Jessup, Ga.; and one brother, Decar Miller of Hilliard, Ga.

CANTEY -- Nelle Buddin Cantey, 82, widow of Mitchell Lamar Cantey, died Sunday, September 7, 1997, at her residence. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 9, 1997, at the New Covenant Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Charlie Tyler. Burial followed in the Manning Cemetery directed by Stephens Funeral Home of Manning. Born in Greeleyville, she was a daughter of the late William James and Mary Lou Boyd Buddin. She was a member of the New Covenant Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: two daughters, LaNelle Cantey DuRant and Peggy Gardner, both of Manning; four sisters, Clarice Duke and Olive Joye of Kingstree; Lois Crolley of York; and Mack Johnson of Sumter; and one brother, William James "Bill" Buddin, Jr. of Manning.
