C. LEE KELLAHAN, SR. -- C. Lee Kellahan, Sr., 77, died Sun., April 21, 2002, in the Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Earl Bittle and the Rev. Mike Mills, were held Tues., April 23, 2002, at Happy Home Free Will Baptist Church. Burial followed at Ivey Cemetery. Mr. Kellahan was born Oct. 20, 1924, in the Warsaw Community of Williamsburg County, a son of the late Roscoe Dowie Kellahan and Nellie Blanche Cox Kellahan. He was in the logging business for 25 years and then farmed for a number of years. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Esther Mae Fulton Kellahan of Andrews; one son, C. Lee Kellahan, Jr., of Andrews; five daughters, Shirley K. Grant, Pansy K. Morris, Carolyn K. Player, Jackie K. Martin and Donna K. Piatt, all of Andrews; and one sister, Nellie K. Morris of Hanahan.

WATSON KEELS -- Funeral services for Watson Keels, conducted by the Rev. Edward C. McLeod, were held Thurs., March 14, 2002, at Long Branch United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed in the Whack Cemetery in Greeleyville. Mr. Keels, 68, died Mon., March 11, 2002, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital after an extended illness. He was born Oct., 27, 1933, in Greeleyville, a son of the late Mackey Keels, Sr., and Lettie Rollerson Keels. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and graduated from Williamsburg County Training School. He was employed for a number of years as a farmer and later drove a school bus. He retired from Albany Felton. Survivors include: his wife, Nettie W. Keels of the home, one son, Watson Keels, Jr., of Arlington, Va.; four daughters, Frankie Williams of Easley, Sarah Edmond of Evans, Ga., Cynthia Hayes of Beaufort and Brenda Fleming of Greeleyville; and two sisters, Shebedine Keels of Arlington, Va., and Sarah Abney of Far Rockaway, NY.

GARRETT SMITH, SR. -- Funeral services for Garrett Smith, Sr., conducted by Minister Fulton M. Smith, were held Thurs., March 28, 2002, at Lake City Church of Christ. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Mr. Smith, 69, died Sun., March 24, 2002, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born May 17, 1932, in Florence County, a son of the late Mcquillar and Flossie Knight Smith. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Shirley D. Smith of the home; five sons, Garrett Smith, Jr., Dondi Smith, Joseph Smith and Cedric O. Smith, all of Lake City; Lynnd Smith of Ft. Bragg, NC; and Pastor Fulton M. Smith of Kingstree; two daughters, Mrs. Jacqueline Smith McCutcheon and Mrs. Lorraine Smith McKnight, both of Lake City; two granddaughters he reared as his own, Tammy K. Smith of Greenville; and Mrs. Latoya Turner of Lake City; a grandson her reared as his own, Lynn Smith of Fayetteville, NC; and one sister, Mrs. Carrie Ellison of Baltimore, MD.

WOODROW WHITAKER, SR. -- Funeral services for Deacon Woodrow W. Whitaker, Sr., conducted by Moderator Kenneth L. Gibson, were held Sat., March 16, 2002, at Jordan Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Olanta. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral, followed at McKenzie Cemetery. Deacon Whitaker died Tues., March 12, 2002, at his residence in Lake City. He was born August 18, 1915, in Bonneau, a son of the late George and Harriett Coutrier Whitaker. He was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County. He was a member of Jordan Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Olanta. He served in many capacities such as Sunday school superintendent, chairman of Deacon Board, member of the Trustee Board and President of the Usher Board. He was also the Freewill Baptist Association Treasurer and past president of the Ushers Union. He was a member of Jordan chapel Masonic Lodge No. 338. He was employed with the Town of Olanta and retired after many years. Survivors are: his wife, Evangelist Ethel Mae Whitaker of the home; one son, Woodrow W. Whitaker, Jr. of Lake City; four daughters, Mrs. Rachel Spears and Virginia Whitaker, both of Bronx, NY; Mrs. Jettie Mae Brand and Margaret Williams, both of Richmond, VA; one adopted son, James Edward Burgess of Boston, MA; one adopted daughters, Mrs. Re-Etta Stuart of Lake City; two sisters, Isabelle Watson of Manhattan, NY; and Zell Whitaker of Jamestown; and one brother, Harry Whitaker of Jamestown.

LEON "LEE" MONTGOMERY -- Funeral services for Deacon Leon "Lee" Montgomery, conducted by the Rev. Standy McCrea, were held Fri., March 22, 2002, at North Kingstree Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Deacon Montgomery died Fri., March 15, 2002, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. He was born June 12, 1920, in Williamsburg County, a son of William and Louisa Montgomery. He was a member of North Kingstree Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He worked in the construction trade for many years, followed by several years at J. F. K. International Airport in New York City. Survivors are: his wife, Marian H. Montgomery of the home; two sons, Lee Montgomery of Central Islip, NY; and Wayne Montgomery of Columbia; two daughters, Mary Walton of Bronx, NY; and Jessica Robinson of Coram, NY; three sisters, Virginia Patterson, Bernice Rious and Bernetha Woods; one brother, Cecil Montgomery; and a goddaughter, Diane Cypress of Bronx, NY.

VIRGINIA BRICKOUS Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Alston Brickous, conducted by Elder Fulton Smith, were held Wed., March 27, 2002, at the Clauddie Henryhand Memorial Chapel in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Cemetery. Mrs. Brickous died Fri., March 22, 2002, at her residence in Kingstree. She was born June 10, 1928, in Williamsburg County. She was married to the late Freddie Brickous. Survivors are: two sons, Bruce Dansby of Myrtle Beach; and Clarence Washington, Jr. of Kingstree; and one sister, Mrs. Lila Mae Alston of Kingstree.

LONNIE BAYLOR- Funeral services for Lonnie Paul Baylor, Sr., were held Tues., March 12, 2002, at the Second Baptist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Baylor, 62, died Sun., March 10 in a Florence hospital. He was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Steward L. and Daisy Sauls Baylor. He was retired from A&P Food Stores and was a member of Kingstree Second Baptist Church. Mr. Baylor was also an Army veteran and a member of VFW Post 6500. Survivors include: his wife, Norma G. Baylor of Kingstree; two sons, Paul Baylor, Jr., and Bobby Baylor, both of Kingstree; one daughter, Tammy Justice of Manning; and one brother, Steward L. Baylor of Clemson.

MELVIN TISDALE -- Graveside funeral services, for Melvin Tisdale, directed by Wil-liamsburg Funeral Home, were held Tues., March 26, 2002, at Tisdale Cemetery. Mr. Tisdale, 86, died Sun., March 24, 2002, in a Kingstree Nursing Facility. He was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Walter L. and Leila T. Tisdale. He was educated in Williamsburg County Schools and was retired from Rogers' Motor and Implement Company. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and was a World War II veteran, serving as an anti-aircraft gunner on the Queen Elizabeth. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion and Woodmen of the World. Survivors include: his wife, Grace B. Tisdale of Kingstree; one brother, Willis Ed Tisdale of Kingstree; and one sister, Leila Maude T. Sanders of Columbia.

THELMA WEATHERS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Carter Harrison Weathers, conducted by the Rev. Willie Wilson, were held Tues., April 2, 2002, at the Mr. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Fune-ral Home, followed in the Florence National Cemetery in Florence. Mrs. Weathers died Thurs., March 28, 2002, at the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born in Wilmington, NC, a daughter of the late Ezra Allen Carter and Rosa Debnaum Carter. She was a retired executive secretary, employed with the New York City Housing Authority in . She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Survivors include: her husband, Fred Weathers of the home; and two sons, Kenneth Harrison and Paul Carter Harrison, both of New York City, NY.

URIAS BROWN -- Funeral services for the Rev. Urias Brown, conducted by Bishop Roosevelt Fulton, were held Mon., April 1, 2002, at Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed in Florence National Cemetery. Mr. Brown, 83, died Thurs., March 28, 2002 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born Nov. 25, 1918, in Greeleyville, a son of the late McKiver Brown, Sr., and Beulah Witherspoon Brown. He was a member of Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church. He worked as a construction worker and was an employee of Colonial Rubber for many years. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ola Mae Brown of the home; six sons, William Brown, Richard Brown, Eli Brown, Dea. Moodie Brown and Joseph Brown, all of Kingstree; and Dea. Harry Brown of Fort Washington, Md.; four daughters, Mrs. Ola Mae McClary, Mrs. Mary Moyd, Roberta Brown and Mrs. Shirley Green, all of Kingstree; three brothers, McKiver Brown, Jr., of Greeleyville; Joseph Withers-poon and John Witherspoon, both of Baltimore, Md.; and one sister, Jannie Witherspoon of Baltimore, Md.
