CHRISTOPHER COOPER -- Funeral services for Christopher Demetrius Cooper, conducted by the Rev. Robert Burgess, were held Tues., April 2, 2002, at Hickory Hill Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Barr Cemetery. Mr. Cooper, 32, died in Scotch Plains, NJ. He was born Jan. 26, 1970, in Newark, NJ, a son of Lavern Cooper and Annie M. Cokely. He was a grandson of the late Edward Cokely and Minnie "Maude" Cokely of Hemingway. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: four brothers, Virgil F. Cokely and Jason Benton, both of Irvington, NJ; Raffoull Abdullah of Orange, NJ; and Harold Rasheen Green of Irvington, NJ.

BRIAN BAZEN -- Brian Arnette Bazen, 26, died Thurs., May 23, 2002, from injuries he received in an automobile accident. Funeral services were held Sun., May 26, 2002, in Gilead Free Will Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at High Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Bazen was born in Florence, a son of Arnette and Betty Godwin Bazen. He was a graduate of Lake City High School and was employed with Wellman, Inc. of Johnsonville. He was a member of Gilead Free Will Baptist Church and the UNITE LOCAL 2398 of Wellman. Survivors are his parents of Scranton.

ALBERT NELSON -- Funeral services for Albert "Link" Nelson, conducted by the Rev. Carl Shaw, were held Sat., May 25, 2002, at the William N. Redmond Memorial Chapel in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the family plot of the Crossroad Cemetery in Salters. Mr. Nelson, 71, died Thurs., May 16, 2002, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was born July 15, 1930, in Salters, a son of the late Thomas and Alice Easterling Nelson. He was an automobile mechanic. He was married to the late Elaine Pendleton. Survivors are: ten children, Karen Pendleton, Cynthia Wesley, Charmaine Dingess, Barbara Goodin, Ronald Nelson, Elaine Nelson, Alvin Nelson, Jr., Myra Fields, Lisa Nelson and Theresa Nesmith; three sisters, Willa Mae, Estelle and Lucille; and two brothers, Robert, Jr. and Charles.

ROBERT McCULLOUGH -- Funerals services for Robert Leslie Topsy McCullough, conducted by the Rev. Sam Lucas, were held Wed., May 29, 2002, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. McCullough died Fri., May 24, 2002, at Lake Moultrie Nursing Home in Stephens. He was born in Williamsburg County on Jan. 4, 1924, a son of the late Calvin and Lillie Mae Viola Singletary. He received his education in Williamsburg County Public School System. He was employed as a truck driver with the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, serving as a member of the Finance Committee and the United Methodist Men. Survivors are: his wife, Millie Violet McCullough of Kingstree; three sons, Ronnie K. McCullough of Lithonia, Georgia; Bruce McCullough of Atlanta, Georgia; and Bryce L. McCullough of Kingstree; one daughter, Kathy S. McCullough of Ladson; four brothers, Leon McCullough of Charleston; David McCullough of New York, New York; Charles McCullough of Miami, Florida; and Carl E. McCullough of Manhattan, New York; and two sisters, Mrs. Annie Sue Cooper of Kingstree; and Grace McCullough of Manhattan, New York.

MARGARET MAXWELL -- Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Reese Maxwell were held Fri., May 31, 2002, in Buffalo, NY, at Mt. Arat Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Resthaven Cemetery in Buffalo, New York. Mrs. Maxwell died Sat., May 25, 2002. Survivors, in addition her mother, Mrs. Mary Reese of Buffalo, New York, are: her husband, Joseph Maxwell, Sr. of Buffalo, New York; five sons, Allen Maxwell, Joseph Maxwell, Richard Maxwell, Martin Maxwell and Terrence Maxwell, all of Buffalo, New York; three daughters, Mrs. Karen Gamble, Mrs. Constance Lock and Mrs. Kimberly Zeigler, all of Buffalo, New York; and her father-in-law, James Maxwell, Sr. of Lane.

DANIEL SCOTT -- Funeral services for Daniel Scott, conducted by the Rev. Sam Lucas, were held Wed., May 30, 2002, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. Scott died May 24, 2002, in Durham, North Carolina, a son of the late Ollie Eugene Scott and Beulah Johnson Scott. He received his education in the North Carolina public schools. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Karen Mitchell; one son, Ronald Toby; one brother, James Scott; and four sisters, Louisa Griffin, Mrs. Hallie S. Burgess, Mrs. Ethel S. Womble and Mrs. Hester S. Melton.

DAISY SPEARMAN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy Spearman, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Herman Gibson, were held Sat., May 18, 2002, at Ranzie Grove Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Smith Cooper Cemetery in Salters. Mrs. Spearman, daughter of the late Dave and Agnes Swinton, was born July 5, 1910, in Williamsburg County, where she received her education. She was a member of Southern Baptist Church, where she was early morning praise and devotional leader and a member of the Volunteer Choir. Survivors are: her husband, Fred Spearman; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Wilson of Clearwater, Florida; and Mrs. Delean Ruffin of Kingstree; one son, Charlie Harrison of Washington, DC; five sisters, Jannie Bradley, Matilda Lewis, Katie McCrea and Lucille Flaitt of South Carolina and Emma J. Singletary of Washington, DC; and one brother, David Swinton of Al Bion, Michigan.

ANN KINLAW -- Funeral services for Ann Kinlaw, conducted by the Rev. Billy Morris Scott, were held Sat., May 18, 2002, at Old Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Kinlaw died May 13, 2002. She was born Aug. 26, 1946, in Tabor City, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Alonza McCrae and Lola Mae McCrae. She grew up in Tabor City and attended school there. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Tabor City, North Carolina, are: her husband, David Kinlaw, Sr., of Tabor City, North Carolina; two sons, David Kinlaw, Jr., and James Kinlaw of Kingstree; three daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Samuel and Tekyla Kinlaw of Manning; and Laquoia Kinlaw of Columbus, Ohio; two step-daughters, Mrs. Earnestine Foy of Yonkers, New York and Mrs. Margaret Rollocks of White Plains, New York; one brother, Jessie L. McCrae of Tabor City, North Carolina; and four sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Collymore of Brooklyn, New York; Mrs. Martha Lynch of Columbia; Mrs. Onethia Wideman of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Mrs. Mary McCrae of Goldsboro, North Carolina.

JUNE OWEN -- June Privette Owen, 82, died Sat., June 1, 2002, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Tues., June 4, 2002, in Pisgah United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home, followed at Florence Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Owen, widow of Thomas R. Owen, was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Ernest Henry and Drummie Hewitt Privette. Formerly of Kingstree, she was co-owner of Owen Iron & Fence Company in Kingstree and later in Darlington County, she was co-owner of Gates, Inc., in Darlington. She was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church, the Asbury Sunday School class and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron while in Kingstree. She was also a member of Red Robin Card Club. Survivors are: one daughter, Dena Altman of Florence; and one son, Thomas R. Owen, Jr., of LaPorte, Texas.

ROBERT WASHINGTON -- Funeral services for Robert W. "Wash" Washington, conducted by the Rev. T. J. Barrett and Minister Luenather Butler Smith, were held Mon., June 3, 2002, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Lake City. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Mr. Washington, 68, died Wed., May 29, 2002, at the Scranton Nursing Home. He was born in Florence County on March 4, 1934, a son of the late James Washington and Vivian McCutcheon Washing-ton. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Brayboy Washington of Lake City; one daughter, Minister Luenather B. Smith of Lake City; and one sister, LerLether Jeanetee Washington of Brooklyn, New York.
