Cora L. Wenn
Cora L. Wenn, age 86, of 410-4th Ave. N.E., Watertown, S.D., passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at a local care center. She was the widow of Chauncey Wenn. Memorial services were held on Saturday, December 1, at 1:00 p.m. at the Wight and Fox Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Westgard of the Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, S.D. There was no visitation. Don Seim was the soloist accompanied by A.J. Sherrill. Relatives met meeuested to mee mee mee meemeee at the funeral home on Saturday, at 12:30 p.m.
Cora Leola Wenn, the daughter of Oliver E. and Hilda O. (Kaas) Sigurdson was born on October 24, 1915 in Dutton, MT. She lived in several communities. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1934.1934.. Cora worked at Bee's Beauty Shop until her enlistment in the U.S. Navy in 1944. After her discharge in 1946, she returned to Watertown and worked for Montgomery Wards Store. On August 19, 1947 she married Chauncey B. Wenn in Watertown, SD. Dakota. The couple lived in Watertown until 1955 when they moved to Hopkins, MN. In 1978 they retired to Pickerel Lake, and then returned to Watertown in 1988. Mr. Wenn passed away on March 24, 2000. Cora was a Charter member of the Women in Military Servry Service for America Memorial Foundation, Inc.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Orville and Richard Sigurdson; one sister, Shirley Haug; and one son, Chauncey Wenn, Jr. .
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Gary Wenn of Ham Lake, MN; a daughter-in-law, Madelaine Wenn of Kelseyville, CA; three grandchildren, Missy and her husband Jimmy Pasquale of Oregon City, CA, Julie Wenn of Santa Rosa, CA, and Tim Wenn of Ham Lake, MN; one sister, Illa Mae Downs of St. James, MN; a brother-in-law, Dale Haug of Yuma, AZ; and five sisters -in-law, Eleanor Sigurdson, Alva Sigurdson, and Lorraine Wenn all of Watertown, Doris Wenn of Clarksville, GA, and Mary R. and her husband Glenn Scott of Naples.

Gary Nater
Gary Nater, age 49, of Cottage Grove, died suddenly on November 8, 2001. Survived by wife Sheena Baker; children, Mark of Clermont, FL and Kristan of Orlando, FL and their mother, Marsha Nater of Cottage Grove; step-daughter, Hannah "HB" Baker of Cottage Grove; sister, Claryce Swanson of Arizona and brother, LeRoy (Cathy) Nater of Minnesota; many nieces and nephews and beloved dog, Norm.
Preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Sophie Nater. "He went too soon and he will be deeply missed." Memorial service 10:00 a.m. Monday at KOK Funeral Home -Cottage Grove Chapel, 7676 80th St. S. with visitation 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Humane Society for Companion Animals.
Eudora K. Rodriguez of Madras, died at Mt. View Hospital on Saturday, November 10, 2001 at the age of 62 years, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Greeley, CO on January 13, 1939 to parents, Leo and Mabel (Johnson) Hull.
As a young girl she worked with her father and learned the meat processing business then as an adult she owned and operated a tavern while living in Sisseton, SD. She lived in the Portland area for many years and nine years ago she moved to Madras. Besides loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren she was an avid reader, lover of cats and working in her garden especially her roses.
Surviving are: daughters: Vickey Rodriguez of Madras, Cindy Hieb of Edmond, OK; sons: LeRoy Johnson of Maui, HI, David G. Johnson of Lynnwood, WA; sisters: Ellen Clark of Roslyn, SD, Jodell Machner of Sisseton, SD; brother: Leo John Hull of Sisseton, SD, and her loving companion, Tony Rodriguez of Madras. There are ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Eudora was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the Madras Conservative Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Freshour officiating.
Autumn Funerals of Redmond was in charge of arrangements.

Leonard Lewandowski
Funeral services for Leonard Stanley Lewandowski, age 73, of Browns Valley, MN was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2001 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Father Arlie Sowada officiating. Organist was Norma Jung and trumpet soloist was Jim Jung. Lector was Edward Lamers. Honorary pallbearers were all of Leonard's many friends. Active pallbearers were Ronald Hillberg, Curt Myrum, Mike Heck, Stevie Lamers, Lynn Stadtler and Mike Myrum. Military rites were given by the William Krensing American Legion Post #58 and the Sisseton VFW Post #3342. Visitation was Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment was at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Browns Valley. The Larson Funeral Home of Browns Valley was in charge of the arrangements.
Leonard Stanley Lewandowski was born September 27, 1928 to parentn renville, SD and was confirmed at St. Peter's Cathos Michael and Rose (Miotke) Lewandowski in Grenville, SD. He was baptized in Grenville, SD and was confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton, SD. He attended St. Peter's Catholic School and the Sisseton Public School. In June of 1953 he entered the service in Kansas and was discharged for the Korean War in April of 1955. He received the National Defense and United Nations Service Medals and had become an Acting Sergeant. After the service he came back to Browns Valley and began farming in Roberts County, SD. Leonard was united in marriage to Joy Yvonne Wencel on October 22, 1959 at the Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton, MN. The couple continued to live on the farm and Leonard continued to farm until the time of his death.
Leonard Lewandowski died December 2, 2001 reaching the age of 73 years, 2 months and 5 days. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Browns Valley, the Sisseton VFW Post #3342 and the William Krensing American Legion Post #58 in Browns Valley. Leonard liked to hunt and enjoyed working the land.
Survivors include his wife, Joy (Wencel) Lewandowski of Browns Valley,MN; two sons, Daryle Lewandowski of Browns Valley, MN and David Lewandowski of Watertown, SD; six sisters, Mary Philen of Browns Valley, MN, Amanda Sykora of Browns Valley, MN, Rosella (Larry) Serocki of Browns Valley, MN, Evelyn Kleindl of Browns Valley, MN, Alvina (Edward ) Lamers of Browns Valley, MN and Burkarda Stadtler of Browns Valley, MN; two brothers, Jim (Beatrice) Lewandowski of Fargo, ND and Mike (Geraldine) Lewandowski of Browns Valley, MN; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Sophie Matherson, Lillian Philen and Joan Serocki.

Richard D. Pond
A memorial service was held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2001, in Tualatin Foursquare Church in Tigard for Richard D. "Dick " Pond, who died November 26 at the age of 56.
Mr. Pond was born October 31, 1945, in Vancouver, WA. He graduated from Cleveland High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a mechanic for Tri-Met for more than 32 years and a member of Local 757.
Survivors include his daughters, Sharon Pond--Lauchengco and Teresa Webb; parents, Delos "Demps" and Dorothy; brothers, Tracy and Greg; former wife, Marsha McVay; companion, Billie Schults; and two grandchildren.
Remembrances can be sent to Portland Rescue Mission. Arrangements were made by Rose City.

Elizabeth Jaspers
Funeral mass for Elizabeth Jaspers, 94 of Eden, SD was held on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eden, SD with Rev. Fr. Jim Friedrich celebrant. Pallbearers were Larry Krista, Peter Krista, George Krista, Tom Krista, David Krista, Cyril Krista, John Krista and Jerry Krista. Honorary pallbearers were "All of Elizabeth's family and friends". Organist was Mary Wagner and special music was provided by the Sacred Heart Catholic Choir. Interment was in the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Eden, SD. Visitation was Monday, December 3, 2001 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church in Eden, with a 7:00 p.m. wake service at the church. There was visitation on Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church also. The Cahill Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Elizabeth was born to Ferdinand and Mary (Tschida) Krista on their homestead in Eden Township, Marshall County, SD July 6, 1907. She graduated from Sisseton High School in 1926. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Christian Jaspers on October 9, 1934 in Eden, SD. The couple lived on a farm across the road from "Old Eden" in Lake Township. Christ passed away in 1953. Elizabeth remained in the area (her entire life) with her son James and daughter Betty. Elizabeth spent many enjoyable hours in gardening and quilting and other endeavors of a rural homemaker. Her greatest interest was her collection of photo albums and keeping them organized to keep up to date on family and friends. Her love of travel pursued the same goal. She was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden. Elizabeth passed away at the Tekakwitha Nursing Center in Sisseton, SD on November 29, 2001.
Elizabeth is survived by six children, Jerome and wife Rosemary Jaspers of Blaine, MN; Joel Jaspers of New Brighton,MN; Sister Chrishelle SSND (Joanne) Jaspers of Rochester, MN; Sister Kristen SSND (Judith) Jaspers of Lonsdale, MN; Betty Jaspers of Eden, SD; and Mary Jean and husband Jim Balik of Waterloo, IA; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son James, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, four brothers and five sisters.

Robert E. "Bob" Wise
Funeral mass for Robert E. "Bob" Wise, 76, of Osakis, MN was held on Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Norman Volk O.M.I. celebrant. Organist was Bill Nelson and song leaders were Cindy Marohl and Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers were Jason Luskey, David Morrisette, Jeremy Hepola, Scott Valentine, David Briggs, Cletus George and Cathy Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were "All of Bob's family and friends". Interment was in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Military rites were provided by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and the Fort Sisseton V.F.W. Post #3342. Visitation was Tuesday, December 4, 2001 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. scripture service at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and one prior to services at the church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of the arrangements.
Robert was born on September 1, 1925 in Louisville, KY to John and Cora (Spencer) Wise one of eleven children. Robert attended school in Highland Park near (Louisville) KY. Robert entered the United States Army/Air Force on November 29, 1943 and was discharged April 9, 1945. For his service Robert received the American Theatre Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WW II Victory Medal. He was assigned to the Ellsworth Air Force Base in Raped City, SD in October of 1945. Robert met Donna George in October of 1945, the couple was united in marriage on February 4, 1946 in Rapid City, SD. To this union three daughters were born. Robert and his family resided in Sisseton from 1959 until 1964 where he worked at Dady Distributing, and St. Paul, MN where he worked for a construction company for 15 years. Robert retired in 1982. Robert and Donna traveled between Florida and finally Arizona in winters, and resided in Osakis, MN in summers. Robert was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Robert passed away on December 1, 2001 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, MN after a lengthy illness.
Robert is survived by his wife, Donna Wise of Osakis, MN; three children, Patricia Morrisette of Waverly, MN; Sharon Luskey of Kissimmee, FL; and Carolyn and husband David Briggs of Mesa, AZ; six siblings Mrs. Rosa Lee Gordon of Louisville, KY; Sylvester and wife Mildred Wise of Mount Washington, KY; Evelyn and husband Preston Greenwell of Louisville, KY; Tom and wife Dodie Wise of Louisville, KY; Clarence and wife Doris Wise of Valley Station, KY; and Eugene and wife Pauline Wise of Mount Washington, Ky; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, twin brother Lester, James, Thurman and Louis.

Patricia "Pat" A. Sumner
Funeral services for Mrs. Larry Lee (Patricia "Pat" Audrey) Sumner, age 64, of rural Florence, SD, were held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 6, 2001, in the Grace Lutheran Church, Watertown, SD with Pastor Dwight Fearing officiating. Mrs. Sumner passed away on December 2, 2001 at home.
Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertwon, SD. Honorary pallbearers were Pat's grandchildren: Jeremy Boswell, Jamie Sumner, Kara, Jason and Kami Sumner, Shelby, Tory and Trent Sumner, Tosha, Shauna and Eric Simonton, Kayla Jacobson, Zachary and Madison Sumner and Tyler er and Kaylee Sumner. Active pallbearers were Pat's sons: Jeff, Tim, Tom, Lee, Tony and Tracy Sumner and her son-in-law, Dell Jacobson. Music was provided by the C.O.C. Worship Team.
Visitation was at the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD, on Wednesday, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Thursday preceding services at the church. The family was asked to meet at the church on Thursday, at 10:00 a.m., to attend the service.
Pat was born on February 1, 1937, to Ed (Becking) Maag, in Watertown, SD. She attended school at Esterly Country School, and graduated from Florence High School in 1955. She worked at General Mills in Minneapolis.
On June 21, 1958, Pat married Larry Lee Sumner at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Florence, SD. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Osseo, MN until 1964 when they moved back to the family farm near Florence, where they have lived since.
Pat was amember of the Christian Outreach Center of Sisseton, SD. She started AGLOW International inFlorence in 1997 and served as its president until 2000. She went to Jerusalem with AGLOW and did mission work in Mexico and at Rosebud, SD. She was a member of Right to Life for many years.
She spent much of her time praising the Lord Jesus, praying and studying her Bible, Pat loved working with the youth as a religious instructor for many years. She enjoyed painting, doing crafts, quilting, crocheting, reading, gardening and canning. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and taking them to the lake cabin.
Pat is survived by her husband, Larry Lee, of Florence; one daughter, Shari and her husband Dell Jacobson, of Florence, SD; six sons: Jeff and his wife, Star Sumner, of Henry, SD; Tim and his wife, Beth Sumner, of Florence, SD; Tom and his wife, Sherri Sumner, of Florence, SD; Lee and his wife, Susan Sumner, of Aberdeen, SD; Tony and his wife, Melinda Sumner, of Watertown, SD and Tracy Sumner of Florence, SD; five brothers: Vince and his wife, Mary Maag, of Sioux Falls, SD; Don and his wife, Delores Maag, of Florence, SD; Les Maag of Minneappolis, MN; Vic and his wife, Judy Maag, of Florence, SD and Jerry and his wife, Lynn Maag, of Barrett Lake, MN; three sisters: Evonne and her husband, Joe Lesnar, of Grenville, SD; Alice and her husband, Duane Breuer, of Guymon, OK and Kim Maag of Watertown, SD; and 16 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Gary, her parents, and one brother, Darrell.
Arrangements by Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD.
