James Coy Porter, age 90 of Maryville, passed away Monday, March 10, 2003, at Fairpark Healthcare Center. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church, was retired from ALCOA and a member of the 25 Year Service Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hammontree Porter.
Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Norma Porter of Maryville; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Richard Farr of Louisville, Phyllis and Charlie Adams of DeFuniak Springs, FL; grandson, Ronald Porter Jr. of Maryville; granddaughter, Stephanie Porter of Knoxville; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Michael and Kimberly Daves of Richmond Hills, GA; grandson, Scott Daves of Maryville; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Christopher and Robyn Adams of Knoxville; grandson, Ryan Adams of Santa Monica, CA; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, John and Michelene Porter of CA; great granddaughters, Mistie and Niki Daves of Richmond Hills, GA; great grandson, Jacob Adams of Knoxville; four great grandchildren of CA; one sister, Irene McInturff of Maryville; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Kagley's Chapel cemetery for a graveside service with Dr. Robert Brown officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 Tuesday, March 11, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.

LOOPE, RAYMOND, 51, Maryville, died Monday, March 10, 2003 at the family home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.

MURRELL, EDITH VIOLA, 91, Maryville, died Monday, March 10, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.

Mary Hazel Jennings
Mary Hazel Jennings, a Walland resident who was a descendent of a Cades Cove family, died at age 86 Friday, March 7 at Colonial Hills Nursing Center.
She served as secretary and treasurer of Rocky Branch Church of God for over 30 years. Jennings was a founder, and the oldest charter member left in the church. She and her late husband, Fred, served 20 years on WGAP Radio Ministry and worked with several outreach ministries.
She wrote a book, 'Homesteads of the Great Smoky Mountains.' Jennings was born in Cades Cove, and with a seventh-grade education, wrote several poems and songs and was an artist.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, the Rev. Jewell and Kenneth McCollum of Maryville and Debbie and Roy Nuchols of Walland; daughter Barbara Christine Hightower of Maryville; son and daughter-in-law the Rev. Robert and Mary Jennings; sons Van and John Jennings, all of Walland; 26 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.
Funeral service will be at 8 p.m. today in the Dotson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gertrude Osborne officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rocky Branch Church of God Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Dotson Funeral Home, 4838 Wildwood Road, Wildwood.

WILLIAM TAYLOR GOINS
William Taylor Goins, age 77 of Louisville passed away Saturday evening, March 8, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital.
Survivors: wife, Ruth Gregory Goins; daughters, Janice Fayetta Perkins of Athens, Bobbi Goins of Etowah; son, David W. Goins of Nashville; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brothers, Ovid Goins of Louisville, Kenneth Goins of Columbus, Ga.; sisters, Arlene Hubbard of Louisville, Oleda Lambert of Columbus, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003 Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Phillip Marshall officiating. Interment 1:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

DAVID BRIAN KELLER
David Brian Keller, age 27 of Maryville passed away Saturday morning, March 8, 2003 at U.T. Medical Center, Knoxville. He was employed by Out of Eden Landscaping Co. He was a hard worker and loved landscaping and being outdoors. He enjoyed landscaping for family members in his spare time. Loving father, devoted son, cherished brother, grandson, nephew, and friend.
Survivors: sons, Christian and Tyler; parents, Steve and Debbie Waters Keller of Maryville; sister, Kristi Keller of Maryville and fiancee, Wes Tate; grandparents, Arnold and Gerldean Waters of Maryville, Pearl Keller and the late Doyle Keller; aunts, Kim Waters of Maryville, Donna Sweet and husband, Rev. Ricky Sweet of Maryville; uncles, Chuck Waters and wife Linda of Maryville, the late Chris Waters, James Keller and wife Cathy, Roger Keller and wife Stephanie of Maryville, Kevin Keller and wife Rhonda Keller of Maryville; first cousins, Jamie, Jennie, Jessie, Taylor, Luke Keller, Jamie Pickens, Jeremy Keeble, Coty Waters, Megan Waters; several other cousins and family members; special friends, Larissa Cutshaw, Brad Yates, Jason Wilburn, Randy Pence.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003 Miller Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Dale Buchanan, Rev. Ricky Sweet officiating. Family and friends will meet at Hopewell Baptist cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

J.B. `MAC' MCLAREN
Dr. J.B. (Mac) McLaren age 79 of Louisville, died March 7, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a World War II veteran of the US Army and served as a Technical Sargent in the Medical Det., 311 Infantry, 78th Division. He received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Dr. McLaren received his B.S. and Masters from the University of Tennessee and his Ph.D. from Auburn University. In 1989 he was named a Buford Ellington Distinguished Professor at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He retired from the University of Tennessee in 1989 after 42 years with the University, ending his career as Head of the Animal Science Department. Dr. McLaren was a past president of the Knoxville Scottish Society and the Clan McLaren of North America. He was a member of the Alcoa Kiwanis and Alcoa First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.M. and Gwendolyn McLaren.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, June H. McLaren; son and daughter-in-law, James B. Jr. and Grace Keller McLaren of Memphis; daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Jerry Krachenfels of Washington, DC and Lynn and Douglas Lovell of Asheville, NC; five grandchildren, Lauren A. Krachenfels, James B. McLaren III, Daniel G. Lovell, Ryan Keller and Paige Keller; sister and brother-in-law, Monta S. and Jay Jones of Franklin, TN.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2003 at the family's home in Louisville. A celebration of life memorial service will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at Alcoa First United Methodist Church. REV. BEN F. REED
Rev. Ben F. Reed, age 59 of Louisville, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2003 at the family home. He was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church and had pastored several churches in Blount, Loudon, Knox and Sevier counties.
He was preceded in death by parents, B. A. and Emma Reed; brothers, Melvin and Andrew Reed.
Survivors, loving wife of 40 years, Margaret Reed; daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Jack Clemmer, Louisville; brothers, Albert Reed, James Reed, Rev. Bill Reed, all of Maryville, Don Reed, of Louisville; sisters, Wanda Potter, Mary McMillian, both of Louisville, Dana Stooksbury, Karns.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Tyson McKeehan, Rev. Joe Lewis officiating. Interment 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

DORIS WALKER
Doris Walker, age 87 of Alcoa, passed away Friday evening, March 7, 2003 at the family home.
Survivors: daughter, Brenda James of Alcoa; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Doug Pack of Alcoa; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Sheila Walker of Ohio; grandchildren, Laurence James, Tony James, Doug Pack Jr., Dody Moreland, Daneil Moreland, Dustin Pack, Katiera Payne, Missy Walker; 10 great grandchildren; 1 brother.
At the family's request no services will be held. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

NOAH A. WILKERSON
Noah A. Wilkerson, age 90 of Maryville, passed away Friday, March 7, 2003, at home. He was a member of Carpenters United Methodist Church for 38 years, was a former employee of ADT, partner owner/operator of Bearden AMOCO, and then spent the remainder of his years as a farmer in Blount County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. M. and Ida Belle Wilkerson; wife, Helen Badgett Wilkerson; granddaughter, Amy Wilkerson; sisters, Clarice Baker, Mildred Leek, Oleta Steel and Zylphia Cogdill.
Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, John and beloved care-giver, Linda Wilkerson of Knoxville, Ray and Sara Wilkerson of Dodge City, KS, Perry and Sheila Wilkerson of Waynesville, NC; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Al Gibson, Linda and Bobby Arden all of Knoxville; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard Wilkerson.
Funeral services was held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Tucker officiating. The interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Carpenters Campground Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Carpenter Campground United Methodist Church, 3530 Best Road, Maryville, TN 37803.

Dr. J.B. 'Mac' McLaren
Retired University of Tennessee professor Dr. J.B. 'Mac' McLaren of Louisville, died at age 79 March 7, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital.
He received his B.S. and Masters degrees from the University of Tennessee and his Ph.D. from Auburn University.
In 1989 he was named a Buford Ellington Distinguished Professor at UT after a 42-year-career as a professor. He ended his career heading the Animal Science Department.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and served as a technical sergeant in the Medical Detachment, 311 Infantry, 78th Division. He received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
McLaren was a past president of the Knoxville Scottish Society and the Clan McLaren of North America. He was a member of the Alcoa Kiwanis and Alcoa First United Methodist Church.
