Larry Eugene Watkins -- age 54 of Maryville passed away Saturday September 28, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Riverview Baptist Church Rockford.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Adams Watkins; mother, Wanda Burchfield; daughters, Christy and Sandra Watkins; step-daughters, Debbie Oliver and Rhonda Buchanan; step-sons, Frank Loftis, David and Eddie Dockins; brothers, Donnie Watkins and Tim Burchfield; sister, Diane Grider; mother-in-law, Helen Adams; several grandchildren and other loved ones.
Family and friends will meet 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for a graveside service with Rev. Billy Moore, and Rev. Jimmy Miller officiating. A memorial service will be held 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Riverview Baptist Church in Rockford. Friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home or the family will be at the home of Jimmy and Jodean Seal 124 Foxglove Lane, Maryville, TN. NANCY RUTH UPTON FRYE
2002-09-28
Nancy Ruth Upton Frye of Walland peacefully left this earthly realm to join her beloved husband on Thursday, September 26, 2002.
Born in Tazewell, Tennessee, eighty-one years ago she was the fifth of eight children born to Jack and Mary Upton. She married Shirrell Frye in 1935 and eventually settled in Walland where they raised five children of their own. Known for her fiery quick wit, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Survived by: Daughters and Sons-in-law, Shirley and Jim Russell, Mary Ellen and Don McClanahan, and Vickie and Danny Teffeteller; Sons and Daughters-in-law, Jack and Joan Frye and Tim and Debbie Frye; Eleven grandchildren; Seven Great-Grandchildren; Sisters, Roxanne Stemeye, Topsy Mae Branson, and Myrtle Elmore; Brother, Manuel Upton; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Glenda Hancox.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 29, 2002 at Cold Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Horace Brown and Rev. Clarence Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Cold Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience after 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 28, 2002 at Smith Mortuary. REBA LATHAM KIDD

AUBREY BEN BAKER
Aubrey Ben Baker, age 54 of Maryville passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2002. preceded in death by mother, Gladys Baker; brother, Troy Lee Christopher; grandparents, Alvin Sr. and Minnie Baker; several cousins.
Survivors: wife, Nancy Cowden Baker; daughter, Tracie Welch of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and William Smith of Alcoa; 5 grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Jackie Baker of Murfreesboro, TN, Bobby and Almeda Baker of LaVergne, TN; uncle, Don Baker of Maryville; aunts, Betty Baker, Josie Cooper both of Maryville, Jean Baker Graves of Friendsville; very special friend, James Tippins of Vonore; host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

TALMAGE `B.D.' LEE BARTLETT
Talmage "B.D" Lee Bartlett, age 68 of Greenback went to be with the Lord, Monday, September 23, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born in his home in Tuckerman, Arkansas on April 24, 1934, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bartlett. He joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. He served as Chief of Police in Parkin, AR from 1967 - 1969. He also served as a patrolman with the Tuckerman Police Department in Arkansas, Date of Commission July 19, 1979. He married Bonnie Sue Lee on March 24, 1957 and they moved to Maryville, TN in 1985. After Bonnie's death, Talmage found comfort with Margaret McCarn and they shared time together continuing through his illness.
Preceded in death by: parents, George and Vivian Bartlett; wife of 35 years, Bonnie Sue Bartlett. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include: son, Talmage "Buddy" Bartlett Jr. of California; stepsons, Larry Crain of Walland and Gary Crain and wife, Carol, of Louisville; grandchildren, Scott Crain and wife Angela of Alcoa, Celeste Wheeler and husband, Donny, of Springdale, AR, Beverly Daniels and husband, Mark, of Mountain Home AFB, ID, LaRay Hainsel and husband, Kevin of Valdosta, GA, Natalie Crain of Walland, Christi Ellis, Bart Crain, Brett Crain and Carrie Crain all of Louisville; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Crain and Graham Crain of Alcoa, TN, Coleman Wheeler of Springdale, AR, and Joshua Daniels of Mountain Home AFB, ID; sisters, Lola Long and husband, Charles, of O'Fallon, MO, and Melba Louise Sherrill and husband, Benny, of Newport, AR; brother, Roy McLaughlin and wife, Becky, of Mt. Vernon, IL; aunts, Emma Rogers and Christine Cole of Tuckerman, AR; children of the heart, Wesley Smith and wife, Danyell; their children Christine, Hope and Morgan all of Kodak, TN, Shiela Morris and husband, Kevin; their children Clayton and Katlyn of Bay Minette, AL, Cassandra Wilkerson and husband, Bennie; their children Trey, Grady and Casi of Hamilton, MS.

WALTON M. ELKINS
Walton M. Elkins, age 73 of Ftn. City passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital. Member of Loveland Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife, Lucille Elkins; daughters, Dinah Britt, Brenda Lay; son, Charles D. Elkins, Sr.; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Anita York; and 2 step-grandchildren.
Service 8 p.m. Friday, Mynatt's Chapel, Rev. Oliver Wolfenbarger and Rev. Eddie Myers officiating. Family and friends will meet at Highland cemetery in Rogersville 11 a.m. Saturday for interment. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mynatt's.

REV. CARL J. MCDONALD
Rev. Carl J. McDonald, age 76 of Powell, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2002. He was an active member of Cedar Ridge Baptist Church. Founding Minister of Southside Baptist Church in South Knoxville. He was former Pastor of First Baptist Church in Ashland, Ohio. Also served as Pastor, teacher, Minister, in other states. He was a graduate of Bible Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He received his Doctorate of Divinity at Seaside Mission College in Florida. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps 5th Division where he served during World War II at Iwo Jima. He was preceded in death by parents, Carl and Lillie McDonald of Ashland, Ohio.
Survivors: wife, Lois J. McDonald of Powell; children, David and wife, Gail McDonald of Knoxville, Catherine and husband, Larry Keck of New Tazewell, Rebecca and husband, Cecil Phillips of Atlanta, Georgia, Tim and wife, Diana McDonald of Knoxville, Debbie and husband, Tim Williamson of Maryville, Jennifer and husband, Eric Julian of Knoxville; grandchildren, Courtney McDonald, Sam McDonald, Steven Eller, Christopher Eller, Nicole Phillips, Josh McDonald, Spencer McDonald, Amanda McDonald, David Eller, and Brianna Williamson; brother, Richard O. McDonald of Ashland, Ohio; sister, Linda and husband, Larry Miller of Ashland, Ohio; several nieces and nephews and a host of other friends.
The funeral services will be held Saturday 10:00 a.m., Berry Chapel, with Rev. Larry Brannon officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn cemetery with military honors by the East Tennessee Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

NANCY ALLENE MCSPADDEN WOLFE
Nancy Allene McSpadden Wolfe, of 1732 Old Niles Ferry Rd., Maryville, passed away 12:35 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Daughter of the late Edd and Letitia McSpadden, who were descendants of pioneer families of Monroe County. Member of First Presbyterian Church of Madisonville. Received her education at Tennessee Wesleyan College and Maryville College. Former teacher in the Monroe County School System.
Survivors: husband, Gordon P. Wolfe; son, Roger Wolfe, Knoxville; grandchildren, Darren Wolfe, S.C., Nancy Burkette, New York City, N.Y.; sisters Nona M. Cook, Madisonville, Alice M. Chandler, Winston-Salem, N.C.; brother, Claude H. McSpadden, Knoxville; nieces, Nancy C. Nathan, Winston-Salem, N.C., Mary Kathryn Shipp, Woodstock, Va., Susanne Marcum, Knoxville; nephews, Thomas E. Chandler, Burlington, N.C., Gerald H. McSpadden, Knoxville.
Preceded in death by sisters, Ila M. Brient and Eula McSpadden; brothers, Ralph A. McSpadden, James Lyle McSpadden and Edgar Wallace McSpadden, Jr.
Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, First Presbyterian Church of Madisonville, Rev. Michael Stanfield officiating. Interment Madisonville City Cemetery. Body will lie-in-state at the church 30 minutes before the service. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.

FRY, NANCY RUTH, 81, Walland, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 at the family home. Arrangements incomplete, Smith Mortuary in charge.

SARAH MAUDE KEEBLE HOWELL
Sarah Maude Keeble Howell, age 91 of Maryville, died Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at Fairpark Healthcare Center. She was a member of Piney Level Baptist Church. preceded in death by: parents, Sam and Clemmie Keeble; granddaughter, Valerie Ann Tunnell; brothers, W.T. Keeble, Carl Keeble, and Lloyd Keeble; sisters, Ellen Miller, Belle Rahe, Flora Russell, Nora Norton, Edna Lowrey.
Survivors include: husband of 71 years, Burley Howell of Maryville; son and daughter-in-law, William Robert and Connie Howell of Maryville; daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Winfred (Jack) Medlin of Maryville, Barbara and Kyle Conway of Maryville, Arlene J. and Lou Alonso of Marietta, GA, and Juanita and Bill Robertson of Knoxville; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brothers, Edgar Keeble of Seymour and Robert Keeble of Walland; sister, Bernice Blazer of Knoxville.

BENJAMIN J. KIRKLAND
Benjamin J. Kirkland, age 68 of Maryville passed away Monday evening, September 23, 2002 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He attended Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife of 40 years, Kathleen Dailey Kirkland; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Raymond Plemons of Maryville; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Nancy Kirkland of Maryville; grandchildren, Jordan Tipton, Devin Plemons, Briana Kirkland; 3 sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2002 Miller Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Alvin Patton, Rev. Bob Kirkland officiating. Interment 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church cemetery. DON HARRIS WHITEHEAD
Don Harris Whitehead, age 73, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Maryville, Tenn., passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, at his home in Florida. Don was born April 8, 1929, in Maryville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Mellie Whitehead; brothers, Clyde and Earl Whitehead; sisters, Evelyn Rutherford and Georgia Whitehead.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Chris Whitehead of Cleveland, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Lou Willoughby of Cleveland, Ohio and Donna Kay and David Williams of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Larissa Murphy, Brian and Jonathan Williams, Cory, Ally and Noah Whitehead; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madison Murphy; sister, Margaret Rhyne; sister-in-law, Carleen Whitehead.
As a resident of Maryville, Don was a member of Grandview Baptist Church and later Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. He retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company in 1986 and was a member of the Alcoa 25 Year Club. Don was also a major in the Army National Guard. The family will receive friends at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, at Smith Mortuary. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., with the Rev. David Williams officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10 a.m., Friday, September 27, at Grandview cemetery for the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's memory may be made to the new Blount County Public Library, 508 N. Cusick St., Maryville, Tenn., 37804.
Don was a weekly visitor to his library in Melbourne and read several books a week. He would be pleased that donations in his memory would encourage others to have that same enjoyment. Don will be greatly missed by his loved ones. Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000
