JAMES PAUL JEWELL
James Paul Jewell, age 88 of Alcoa, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 23, 2006, at 5:20 a.m. at UT Medical Center. He was retired from ALCOA and a member of the 25 Year Service Club. Jim was baptized on April 4, 1939, and a most faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alcoa for 72 years. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1949 and served as Chairman of the Deacons from March 1972-October 1985.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Myrtle Jewell; brother, Ben Harold Jewell and loving wife of 56 years, Anna Merle Brown Jewell.
Survivors are daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Larry Sims of Pigeon Forge, Libby and Mike Huffstetler of Maryville; grandchildren, Amy Sims, Gary and Robbie Sims of Pigeon Forge and Matt and Natasha Huffstetler of Maryville; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Cassidy and Heather Sims of Pigeon Forge and Tyler Huffstetler of Maryville; several nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for a graveside service with Rev. Danny Davis and Dr. Robert Brown officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:30 p.m. Saturday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.

WILLIE ANN `CHUBBY' RHODES
Willie Ann (Chubby) Rhodes, age 56 of West Knoxville, departed this life March 21, 2006 at Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital. Born October 30, 1949 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Member of Boyd Street Church of God. preceded in death by parents, Willie James and Annie Lou Goodwin; sister, Mary Lois O'Neal; and brother George Michael Lynn Goodwin. Survivors: daughters, Stephanie (Gary) Jones, Greenville, NC, Pamela (Tweety) Reeves, Tressie (Randall) Turman, Knoxville; son, Cornell (June) Rhodes II, Columbus, OH; sisters, Jeannette Matthews, Marilyn (Jack) Herford, Vernie Griggs; brothers, James E. and Jeffrey L. Goodwin and Darren (Jackie) McDuffey, all of Knoxville; loving granchildren, Shandell, Laquisha, Chederria, Gary Cornell III, Jaron, Destiny; beloved fiance, Dennis Dean; cherished friend, Diane Mathis; devoted sister-in-law, Willie Goodwin; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Family will receive friends 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday at Eternal Life Harvest Center; funeral service 2:00 p.m. Pastor Gregory Thomas, officiating. Internment New Gray Cemetery. EUGENE L. `GENE' BOYD
Eugene L. 'Gene' Boyd, age 86 of Buford, Georgia, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 from Leukemia and Alzheimer's.
He was born September 22, 1919 in Maryville, Tenn. After his parents' death in 1925, Gene was raised, with his brother Leslie, by their grandparents, Alfred and Magnolia Goddard. In 1939, he married Ruth Lambert. He served in the Navy during WWII.
After working in the stone business for several years with Lambert Brothers, he came to White, Georgia in 1947 to furnish stone for the Allatoona dam. His career at Vulcan Materials for over 45 years defined success. He retired in 1985 as President of the Southeast Division of Vulcan Materials. During his rise from laborer to top executive, he helped build the roads, airports, dams, interstate systems and other structures so vital to the people and industries of the Southeast. A map of the area is literally dotted with projects on which he contributed. Gene's work took him to worldwide locations such as Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Europe and Asia.
His contributions to the aggregates industry were recognized by lifetime memberships in the Georgia and National Crushed Stone Associations. Vulcan Materials honored Gene by establishing The Gene Boyd/Vulcan Materials Endowment, an annual scholarship, for the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech. He was a member of the Methodist Church, a 32nd degree Mason, a Kiwanis, and a Boy Scout Leader when his sons were young.
He was preceded in death by loving wife of 52 years, Ruth Lambert Boyd; sons, Leslie Ray Boyd and Robert Lamar Boyd; and brother, Leslie C. Boyd.
Surviving are his daughter, Janice and her husband, Richard Belcher, of Buford; granddaughters, Gena Leigh Belcher of Avondale Estates, and Julia Allen Belcher of Birmingham, Alabama; grandsons, Leslie Duffin Boyd of Cartersville, GA and Barton Lamar Boyd of Kennesaw, GA; seven great-grandchildren, Larissa Belcher Daniel, Bailey, Sydney and Leslie Carter Boyd, McKenna, Perrin and Braedon Ray Boyd; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 25, 11:00 a.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel, with interment to follow immediately at Arlington Memorial Park. A reception will follow after graveside services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Shephard Center, 2020 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Georgia 30309. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel Funeral Directors, Atlanta, GA.

KENNETH C. MARKLEY
Kenneth C. Markley, age 58, devoted husband and father, was called to heaven on Thursday, March 23, 2006, from the UT Medical Center. He was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church and employed at the Knoxville Office of the Aluminum Company of America. A graduate of Bearden High School and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, School of Engineering. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles K. Markley.
He is survived by wife, Kathy Huczko and children, Crystal Markley of Jacksonville, FL, David Markley of Knoxville, TN, Jason Markley and wife Katie of Cary, NC, Nicole Markley of Maryville and Jonathan Markley of Maryville; mother, Miriam 'Mimi' Garbett Markley formerly of Knoxville, TN, currently residing in Jacksonville, FL; sister, Jane Beth Green and husband Bert of Jacksonville, FL.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, at New Providence Presbyterian Church in Maryville with the Rev. Dr. Emily Anderson and Rev. Steven Musick officiating. The family will receive friends in the Sanctuary following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Capital Building Fund at New Providence Presbyterian Church, 703 W. Broadway, Maryville, TN 37801.

HENRY HUBERT `HANK' PERRY JR.
Henry Hubert 'Hank' Perry Jr., age 52 of Greenback, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Paul & Melissa Perry of Greenback; grandson, Lane Perry of Greenback; sister, Stacy O'Kelley; nephew, MacKenzie O'Kelley; several cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday at Alcoa First United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Green officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4-5:00 p.m. Saturday at the Church.

STEPHEN LEONARD REED
Stephen Leonard Reed, age 62 of Maryville passed away March 21, 2006 at home with family and friends. He served three years in the U.S. Army. He retired from Alcoa Aluminum Co. preceded in death by his parents: Henry Leonard and Betty Magdalen Reed; brother: Wayne Howard Reed; nephew: Jamie Lynn Buchanan. Survivors include his wife of thirty-seven years, Avice Best Reed; daughter: Lynnette Reed; daughters and sons-in-law: Leiann and Devon McCroskey, and Eve and Jimmy Latham; grandchildren: Adam Bain, Kelcey Latham, Schuyler Moss, Meghan Schuessler, Kiara McClure, and Tyler McCroskey; brother and sister-in-law: Jack and Patsy Reed of Maryville, and Lynda Dellinger of Seymour; many nieces, nephews, and many special friends. A celebration of Stephen Leonard Reeds life will be at 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2006 at High Praises Church of Friendsville, 3440 W. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Friendsville, TN 37737 with Pastor Jackie Midkiff and Rev. Mike Parker officiating. In lieu of flowers please make donations in memory of Stephen L. AMOS CARLETON SCRUGGS
Amos Carleton Scruggs, age 80, of 731 Chestua Church Rd., Madisonville went home to be with our Lord at 12 Noon on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 after a brief illness at UT Medical Center. Carleton was the son of the late Amos Carson and Abbie Belle Croft Scruggs. Also preceded in death by a brother and sisters-in-law: Anderson Earl and Wilma Ruth Austin Scruggs, Blanche McConkey Scruggs and a niece, Jane Denton. Carleton joined the Navy in November 1943. He served on the destroyer, USS Hyman, DD732, during World War II, in the Pacific. He was present in Tokyo soon after the war was over, and stayed there about six months during the last of his tour of duty. When Carleton was honorably discharged from the Navy, he continued to help farm the Scruggs land. On July 12, 1949, he married Billie Jean Jenkins, the daughter of Arthur and Lillie (Giles) Jenkins. They returned to the Scruggs' home to live. Their daughter Sheree Lou Scruggs became the fifth generation to live in the Rev. John Scruggs home. Carleton was a lifelong resident of Madisonville where he was a member of Chestua Methodist Church, farmer and started businesses which included a radio station, newspapers, community entertainment center and retail store. Well known for loving music, he formed the popular band 'Homefolks' which accomplishments included the Ted Mack Amateur Hour in the early years of television. The Homefolks was a regular on the popular Saturday night WNOX Barn Dance Show. Carleton was given the honor of performing Amazing Grace as the last song to close the Barn Dance forever. That performance was broadcast across the United States and worldwide on Arm Forces radio. It was the largest worldwide radio broadcast of the late 1950's.
Survivors--wife of 56 years: Billie Jean Jenkins Scruggs; daughter & son-in-law: Sheree Lou Scruggs & Michael Austin, Johnson City; two extended family granddaughters: Brandy Martire and Afton Austin; one great-grandson: Nicholas Sky Martire, all of Virginia Beach, VA.; brother: Tommy Scruggs, Madisonville; sisters & brothers-in-law: Dorothy & Bob Denton, Charlotte, NC, Charlotte & Randy Lee, Chattanooga; devoted brother-in-law: Lowell Jenkins; several other nieces and nephews; and his loving companion and friend, Wolf; personal friend and dedicated physician: John W. Lacy III
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Chestua Methodist Church, Hwy 411 S. Madisonville with Rev. Ken Tucker officiating. A family visitation will follow at the church after the ceremony. Family and friends will assemble 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Chestua Baptist cemetery for entombment services. WILLIAM HENRY THOMPSON
William Henry Thompson, age 86 of Maryville passed away Wednesday evening, March 22, 2006 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He attended Six Mile Baptist Church as a young man he made a profession of faith and placed his trust in The Lord Jesus Christ. He was a veteran of The U.S. Army having served during WWII with the rank of SGT. preceded in death by parents, Will and Jessie Thompson Hearon; brothers, Tom Everett and Charlie Everett; great-granddaughter, Brennah Renea Young.
Survivors wife of 59 years, Dorothy Walker Thompson; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and James Williams, Helen and Cleve Young, Doris and Brian Poplin all of Maryville; grandchildren, Ann Adams and husband Curtis, Allen Young and wife Kelly, Lana Pettis and husband Randy; great-grandchildren, Gavin Young and Abram Young.
Funeral service 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2006 at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel Rev. Bill White officiating. Interment 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Grandview Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

BESSIE C. COX
Bessie C. Cox, age 84 of Alcoa, devoted wife of John B. Cox Jr., passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at Colonial Hills Healthcare Center. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. preceded in death by: parents, Jack & Lizzie Hancock; sisters, Janey Wetmore and Mildred King; brothers, Weldon & Jack Hancock. Survivors include: husband of 66 years, John B. Cox Jr.; son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne 'Pete' & Kathleen Cox of Maryville; grandsons, John B. Cox and Steven D. Cox & wife Wendy; great-grandchildren, Candace Kathleen Cox, Clint Benson Cox, Casey Nicole Cox, Addison Nathaniel Cox, Savannah Rae Cox; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2006, Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary. EARL E. HEIDERHOFF SR.
Earl E. Heiderhoff Sr., age 91 of Maryville, TN, and formerly of Gulfport, MS, passed away peacefully March 21, 2006, at home surrounded by loved ones. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and was a retired statistician with the U.S.D.A. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillian Winterstein Heiderhoff; parents, Camille and Richard Heiderhoff; brothers, Andrew Heiderhoff, Richard Heiderhoff; sisters, Camille Heiderhoff Lohr, Elizabeth Heiderhoff Edmunds, Rosalie Heiderhoff Guest.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Heiderhoff Beasnett and son, Earl E. Heiderhoff, Jr; granddaughter, Anna Beasnett Graham; grandson-in-law, Shawn G. Graham; great-granddaughters, Meredith and Eleanor Graham.
Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Martha Sterne officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church following the service. Graveside services and interment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 27, at Evergreen cemetery in Gulfport, MS.

ALBERT `A.B.' MARTIN JR.
Albert (A.B.) Martin Jr., age 84 of Nashville, TN was born March 13, 1922 in McMinnville, TN to the late Rev. Albert Sr. and Lelia Hunter Martin. He was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Bordeaux Nursing Home, Nashville, TN. At an early age his family moved to Alcoa where he became a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
He was a graduate of Austin High School, a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. Upon completion of his Army duties he moved to Detroit, Michigan and later years to New York and Nashville, TN where he was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church.
Preceded in death by wife, Dorothy Goss Martin; parents; four sisters; and three brothers.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories sons, Albert III of NC, Alex of New York, Alan of NC; twin daughters, Andrea and Angela of NC; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Maggie Whitted and Marva Reed; brother, Avery Martin all of Maryville; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Martin of Maryland; aunts, Jessie Crabtree of McMinnville, TN, Alma Willmore of Ohio and Livy D. Hall of Michigan; very devoted friends, Alvin Brown and Samuel Lyons of Nashville, TN; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside services and interment will be held Friday, March 24, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. in the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, Lyons View Pike, Knoxville, TN. Remains may be viewed from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Foothills Funeral Home, Maryville, TN.
