Burton and wife, Lillian of Grandview, TN; daughter, Virginia L. Bartman and husband, Mike of Cambridge, WI; son, James E. Pettyjohn and wife, Rita of Friendsville; stepson, John G. Doil R. Shuler, age 74 of Townsend died Thursday, February 3, 2005 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He retired from as owner and operator of heavy equipment. preceded in death by: parents, George and Maudie Shuler; brother, Dillard Shuler; sister, LaVonne Garner. Survivors include: beloved wife and companion of 52 years, Nila Buchanan; son, Ronald Edward Buchanan of Townsend; grandson, Adam Buchanan; brothers, Ralph Shuler and Vance Shuler both of Townsend; sisters, Barbara Shuler and DeLynn Caylor both of Townsend; special friends, Howard Yates, Lowell Yates, Lee Yates, and Don Tipton; several nieces and nephews; a host of other friends. Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Smith Mortuary with Rev. Fate Green and Rev. Ronnie Hepperly officiating. Anna Lucile Steel, age 88 of Maryville died Friday, February 4, 2005 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Friendsville United Methodist Church and their United Methodist Women's Group. preceded in death by: husband, John D. Steel; daughter, JoAnn Steel; parents, George M. Lewis and Annie P. Lewis; brothers, John Lewis Jr. and Jack Lewis; sisters, Helen Stringwell and Virginia Lewis; grandson, John Trenton Steel. Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, John A. and Carolyn Steel of Marietta, GA and Don and Jane Steel of Knoxville, TN; daughters and son-in-law, Barbara and Fred Graves of Cumming, GA and Mary Jane and Ted Klenske of Friendsville; eight grandchildren; seven great-Grandchildren; brother, Fred W. Lewis of Greenback, TN; sister, Betty Ruth Jenkins and husband Clyde of Valrico, FL; dear friend, Howard Hudson. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Alterra Sterling House and doctors and caregivers at Blount Memorial Hospital. Ruth Toomey Sweet, age 77 of Friendsville, went to be with her Savior on Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Myrtle Toomey; and brother, Oran Toomey.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin Sweet; sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. David and Donna Sweet of Louisville, Gene and Karen Sweet of Friendsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Daniel Bolinger of Maryville, Vivian and Rev. Dickie Dixon of FL; grandchildren, Darrell Bolinger, Aleah Bolinger, Brian Sweet, Melinda Inman, Rick Dixon, Nicholas Dixon, Mike Dixon, Ricky Sweet and Jessica Rex; great-grandchildren, Noah and Blake Rex, Cierra Dixon, Kayla, Hannah and Jenna Inman and Thomas Bolinger; brothers, Frank Toomey of Seymour, and Glen Toomey of GA; brother and sister-in-law, Millard and Grace Toomey of Niota; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Wilford Sweet of Friendsville.

She was a member of Fairpark Wesleyan Church and preceded in death by husband, Luther Hatcher; grandson, Joey Maples; brothers, Ira Reagan, James Reagan and Hubert Reagan; sisters, Mae Tipton, Marie Williams and Lizzie Stanton; and infant daughter, Ida Mae Hatcher. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil and Tilda Hatcher of Maryville, Ed Hatcher of Madisonville, Walter and Sharon Hatcher of Illinois, Gene and Catherine Hatcher of Parrottsville (formerly of Pigeon Forge) and Anderson Hatcher of Madisonville; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Jim Younce of Louisville and Betty and Joe Maples of Georgia; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Headrick and Jennie Gibson both of Maryville; several cousins; nieces and nephews. JORDAN ALEXIS HATCHER
Jordan Alexis Hatcher, 22 months old, April 25, 2003 - February 9, 2005. Our precious little angel has now received her wings. This precious and sweet baby brought much joy to our lives and was loved by everyone she touched. She is survived by her mommy and daddy, Ashley and Jonathan; grandparents, Denise and Buddy Holder, Judy Goodner and Robert Green; very special great-grandmother, Brenda Taylor (Nanny), Betty Norton and Mae Hatcher; very special aunts, Emily Holder and Suzanne Hatcher; great-aunts and uncles, Tina and Jay Sharp, Kyle Jr. and Caroline Taylor, Lisa Taylor, Kristi and Kenny Long, Lacey and Phillip Grubb, Shirley and Art Allen, Jeffery and Kim Hatcher, Tommy and Lil Hatcher, Sammy Hatcher, Steve and Ellen Hatcher, Bill and Judy Keck, Herman and Janet Helton, Neil Norton, Dale and Kay Norton; special aunt, Le-Le (Amanda Gentry); many cousins and extended family. Trent Pierce, born August 17, 1978, age 26 of Greenback died Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center. He was a member of R.I.O. Church and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a loving father to Brayden Thomas, and a wonderful husband and son. preceded in death by: grandparents, Fred and Helen Pierce, William Burchell. Survivors include: wife, Sarah Pierce; son, Brayden Thomas Pierce and unborn son, Trenton Jackson Pierce both of Greenback; parents, Sam and Suzanne Pierce; mother, Donna Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Greg Horton; niece, Lily Horton; nephew, Alex Horton all of Knoxville; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Tom and Debbie O'Dell of Maryville; brother-in-law, Andy O'Dell of Maryville; grandmother, Anna Burchell; several uncles, aunts, cousins; special friends, J.J. Evelyn Roberta Burchfield, age 74 of Maryville passed away Sunday, March 20, 2005, at U.T. Hospital. She was preceded in death by parents, Martha and Wiley Myers; husband, Lonnie Cleadus Burchfield; son, Dale Roger Burchfield; sister, Carol Jane Meadows.
Survivors include: daughters, Gail Lambert, Ginger McKinney and her husband Micheal; grandchildren, Donna Honeycutt and her husband Eddie of Virginia, Rocky Lambert and his Fiancé, Candy Alsip, Haley McKinney; great grandchildren, Trey and Beth Honeycutt, Austin Cooper, Samantha Alsip. Other survivors include: Chris and Heather Coning, and Lew Meadows.

JOHN A. KERR, SR.
John A. Kerr, Sr., age 86, of Maryville, passed away Monday, March 21, 2005, at home with his family attending. Born in Greenback on July 25, 1918, he graduated from Greenback High School and Maryville College. He served in the United States Army during World War II and for years remained active in the Army Reserve, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. For over forty years he worked professionally in the production planning department of the Aluminum Company of America in Alcoa, TN and Pittsburgh, PA. Additionally, he has run the Anderson family farm in Rockford which has been in continuous operation since 1873. Other interests over the years include gardening, horseback riding, travel, and sports, especially baseball and basketball - in particular the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Lady Vols. Always active in his community, he has served in the Maryville Kiwanis Club, having had perfect attendance for over forty years, Habitat for Humanity, Contact Teleministry, United Way, and the Maryville City School Board, both as a member and chairman.
Raised in the Greenback Presbyterian Church, where his grandfather, David Kerr, served as minister, he has been a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church for over sixty years, during which time he served as elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and member of the Men's Group, as well as other committees.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Helen Anderson Kerr; children, John A. Kerr, Jr. and wife Pat of Rockford, Linda J. Kerr of Friendsville, and Barbara A. Kerr of Mathews, VA; grandchildren, Andy and Erin Kerr; sister Lillian Kerr Beals; and niece, Karen Beals Ogle, both of Knoxville; sister-in-law Carolyn Anderson Carter; nephews Rick and Bob Carter; and niece, Anne Carter.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at New Providence Presbyterian Church with receiving of friends directly afterward in Westminster Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Providence Presbyterian Church Foundation, the H. F. (Bert) and Nellie Pickens Anderson Scholarship at Maryville College, The Heifer Project, or your favorite charity.

Otis L. Shelton, age 91, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Maryville Health Care Center. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Alcoa. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Shelton. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Ineta Shelton of Travelers Rest, SC; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three nieces; and one nephew. Memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Alcoa, Rev. Toby Downey officiating.
