Clarence R. Curtis, age 95, of Friendsville, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at his home. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene of Maryville. He retired from ALCOA and was a member of their 25-Year Club. preceded in death by: infant son and daughter, John and Doris Curtis. Survivors include: wife of 70 years, Henrietta Curtis; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Linda Curtis of Alcoa; daughters and sons-in-law, Marianna Smith and the late Frank Smith of Friendsville, Clara and George Rogers of Ellijay, Ga., Lois and Rick Chase of Middletown, R.I., Ida and Dave Moler of Rockford; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, George Jack of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Mildred Lane Curtis of Maryville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 4, 2004, in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Raymond Couey and Rev. Daryll Rasnake officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 4, 2004, at Cloyd's Creek cemetery in the Meadow Community for the interment. JEAN CAROLINE LAMBERT
Jean Caroline Lambert, age 83, of Maryville, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2004, at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay C. Lambert.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Clay W. and Chris Lambert of Corbin, Ky., Harry E. and Carol Lambert of Ala.; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Al Peifer of Dana, Ill.; grandchildren, Clay Lambert Jr. and wife Bobbie of Locust Grove, Ga., Greg Lambert of Ga., Jeff Lambert and wife Erin of Maryville, Paige Wallace of Ill. and Janelle Peifer of Dana, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Clay Lambert III and Daniel Lambert, both of Locust Grove, Ga., Zane Lambert and Belle Lambert, both of Maryville; sisters, Helen Porter of Maryville and Betty Jo Barton of Paris, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Ralph Norman officiating and George Hall singing. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.

REX MONTGOMERY SR.
Rex Montgomery Sr., age 85, of South Knoxville, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2004, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church and was a retired past steel rigger and quarry superintendent with Vulcan Materials. preceded in death by wife, Faye Montgomery; son, Thomas Montgomery; parents, Zella and Tom Montgomery; brothers, Ralph, J.D. and Charles Lee Montgomery. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Wran and Alan Mullis, Cindy and Larry Burnett; son and daughter-in-law, Rex H. and Susie Montgomery; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Stephens and 3 nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway and proceed to Highland South cemetery for a 3:00 p.m. graveside service, Dr. Bobby Tucker officiating.

MARY AGNES DUGAN
Mary Agnes Dugan, age 81, of Rockford passed away, Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospice At Holston. preceded in death by husband, Harold Nathan Dugan Jr. Survived by her son Michael Dugan II of Rockford; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 4, 2004, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at their convenience all day Thursday and Friday until 5:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

EDNA JOYCE GILES
Edna Joyce Giles, age 71, of Ohio, formerly of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at her home in Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grant 'Doc' and Mattie Abbott Russell; brother, Doyle Russell and sister, Peggy Terry.
Survivors include: husband, Charles 'Shorty' Giles; son, Glen Giles and wife Debra Giles; daughter, Debra Skeens; grandchildren, Stephen Skeens and wife Jennifer, Angela Skeens, Michael Giles and wife Melanie and Jonathan Giles; great-grandchildren, Tony and Cullen Hooks, Lauren Skeens and Charlie Skeens; brother, J.W. Russell; sisters, Freddie James, Willie Russell and Betty Strickland; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Morton officiating. The interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Ball Play Cemetery.

LILLIE ROSE NORTH
Lillie Rose North, age 93, of Ooltewah, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord on November 30, 2004, in a local hospital. She was known for her prayers, love of the Lord and concern for others' salvation. She was a Sunday School teacher at Antioch Baptist, Clifton Hills Baptist, Mineral Park Baptist, and Woodland Park Baptist Churches. She and her husband led the family as they sang in area churches in Tennessee and Georgia. She was the owner of L. & N. Mercantile Company, was later employed by McKee Baking Company. She was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Glenn North; her parents William T. (Bill) Lewis, County Commissioner of James County, and Bell Blair Lewis. Upon the early death of her parents she was raised by her brothers and sisters, then in turn she helped take care of them during their later years of life. Brothers and sisters included, Rev. Delmar Lewis, Tony Lewis, Rev. Floyd Lewis, Lula Bell Lewis Kesley, John Lewis, Fred Lewis, and Annie Lewis Holden, also grandchild, Baby Allen. She was survived by her sister-in-law, Lucille Ninnis, Detroit, Michigan; daughter, Charlotte North (Harold L.) Williams, Chattanooga; son, Robert Eugene (Sherri Mital) North, Morristown, and Minister of Music at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Maryville. Grandchildren, Angie (Mike) Sterzik, Bubba (Tara) Williams, Charisma (Richard) Shaffer, Celestial (Isaac) Allen all of Chattanooga; Heidi (Kent) Catron, David (Julie) North, Joseph North, all of Morristown; Jon (Holly) North, Atlanta, Georgia. Great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Emma, and Mitchell North, Matt and Aaron Sterzik, Brennan Williams, Alexis Shadrick, Madaline Rose and Ben Allen, Nathan and Nicholas Catron. She was looking forward to two on the way.
The family would like to thank her caretakers, Robert Boles, Darlene Land, Ailene Walker, and Jay Weighill for the best of care and love they gave to her. Also would like to thank Dr. Bruce Johnson, Dr. John McAllaster and Dr. Andrew Rittenberry Jr. and the staff of Memorial Hospital, Cleveland Community Hospital and Cleveland Care and Rehab.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Woodland Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Austin Cook, and the Rev. John Meador officiating. Special words by Bob Merritt. Interment will be in Plowman cemetery in Apison. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel and on Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Bible Village, 3001 Hamill Road, Hixson, TN 37343; Woodland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 7501 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421; and Mount Lebanon Baptist Church Building Fund, 3508 Wildwood Road, Maryville, TN 37804. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be the Agape Sunday School Class and the Sunday School Classes she taught as well as the caretakers who were so faithful to minister to her, as well as Oscar Burnett and Karen Williford. Arrangements are by the Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, Valley View Chapel.

KYLE, JOHN WILLIAM, 81, Powell, formerly of Maryville, died Monday, November 29, 2004. Survivors: Wife, Helen Ruth Kyle; son, John Douglas Kyle, Knoxville; stepson, Larry Roberts, Ga.; daughter, Thelma Jean Prather, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, First Apostolic Church, Knoxville. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Woodhaven Memory Gardens, Claxton. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Dotson Funeral Home, Wildwood, and 5-7 p.m. Friday, First Apostolic Church.

INEZ ELIZABETH BALES
Inez Elizabeth Bales, age 74, of Knoxville, died Monday, November 29, 2004, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. She was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church in Knoxville. She was employed for many years as a waitress with Quarterback Restaurant and Shoney's in Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin E. Bales; son, Paul W. Bales; her parents, Orville L. Perry and Naomi Ruth Perry; and brother Henry A. Perry.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Alfred Tullock, Sharon and Thomas Blackwell; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Martha Bales, Rick and Brenda Bales, Donald and Betty Bales; and daughter-in-law Bobbie Bales; brothers, John Perry and Willis Perry; sisters, Mary Strong and Helen Humphreys; grandchildren, Charles Tullock, Michael Tullock, Allen Blackwell, Kimberly Blackwell, Michael Bales, Brenda Andrews, David Bales, Amanda Hager, and Daniel Costner; great-grandchildren, Austin Tullock, Deana Guider, Tristan Blackwell, Brendan Flynn, Justin Hager, Isabella Costner, Christina Andrews, Shawn Andrews and Jordan Bales; as well as many nieces and nephews. Inez will be deeply loved and missed by her dear friend Connie Staples, beloved friends at Colonial Hills Nursing Center, and all that knew her.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the funeral services following at 8 p.m. at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with Rev. David Tullock officiating and Bobby Tullock as soloist. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lynnhurst Cemetery. GARY BOWERMAN
Gary Bowerman, age 60, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, November 29, 2004, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Mr. Bowerman was preceded in death by his father, James J. Bowerman Jr.; brother, Michael (Red) Bowerman; grandfather, James J. Bowerman Sr.; grandmothers, Bertha Bowerman and Willie Thompson; son-in-law and friend, John Brimer.
Survivors include his mother, Frances Bowerman of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Derrick and Wendi Bowerman of Friendsville; daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Eric Jones of Friendsville; grandchildren, Kaci and Hannah Bowerman; sister and brother-in-law, Janie and Steve Vess of Dandridge; aunt, Willadean Smith of Knoxville; nephews, Jamie Bowerman, Jason Bowerman, Josh Vess and Randy Vess.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Hollander officiating.

NEOMA WEST HUNT
Neoma West Hunt, age 88, of Alcoa passed away Monday afternoon, November 29, 2004. She was of the Baptist faith. preceded in death by: her loving husband of 52 years, Ernest Hunt; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Patricia Hunt of Decatur; grandchildren, Lori Hunt of Maryville, Rebecca Hunt of Decatur; great-grandchildren, Jessica Elmore, Trace Elmore; sisters, Burlene Dil of Ohio, Cora Miller of Vonore; brother, Odis West of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Mrs. Boring, Mrs. Glandon, Mrs. Gentry all of Alcoa. Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2004, Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Bob Ivey officiating. JOE E. ROGERS
Joe E. Rogers, age 71, of Maryville, passed away Monday, November 29, 2004, at the family home. He was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from Prudential Insurance Company with 30 years of service. He was the owner/operator of J&J Hauling. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include wife of 46 years, Jody (Georgetta) Rogers; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe E. Jr. and Mary Rogers of Maryville, Eric E. and Jennifer Rogers of Mt. Juliet; daughter, Kimberly Luttrell of Knoxville; grandchildren, Alan Duckett of Maryville, Evan Rogers of Mt. Juliet, Abby Luttrell of Knoxville, Noah Rogers and Emily Rogers both of Mt. Juliet, Katie Beth Esch of Knoxville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Julene Hogelin of Rabun Gap, Ga., Gary and Phyllis Hogelin of Atlanta, Ga., Lance and Jeannie Hogelin of Corryton; sisters, Azalee McGee of McMinnville and Sally Cox of Daleville, Ind.; several nieces and nephews. BILL SHARP
Bill Sharp, age 78, of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at the family home. He was born in the Loyston community, Union county Tennessee. He believed in the Methodist Christian faith. He retired from Sharp Brothers Gulf Service Station, West Broadway Maryville (Downey Oil Co.), after 40 years of service. He was also a very avid business professional. His pride and joy was his guitar, fishing and friends. preceded in death by: parents, Alfred and Dollie Sharp; brothers, Lillard, Plumer, Rev. Verture, Jewel, Fred, and Boble Sharp; nephews, Rudolph Sharp, Jack Sharp; great-niece, Robin Lee Stamps; special friend, Lillian Hill. PAUL EDWARD TILSON
Paul Edward Tilson, age 63, of Maryville passed on to his heavenly home November 30, 2004, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church. He served his country from 1962-1966 in the United States Air Force. Paul retired from Delta Air Lines with 28 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening and hiking with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvil and Hester Tilson of Wartburg. Survivors include wife, Kay Davis Tilson; daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Tom Potter; granddaughters, Taylor and Tara Potter, all of Friendsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Janette Tilson, Don and Patty Tilson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Edgar Jones, Lois and Tommy Sexton, Betty and Will Hobbs, all of Wartburg, Wanda (Emrheim) and Joe Satterfield of Loudon; very special mother-in-law, Blanche Davis; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Smith and Marsha Strickland, brother-in-law, Jack Davis; special "little buddy" Callie and many nieces and nephews and special friends. Funeral service will be 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2004, in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Michael Hamby, Rev. Chuck Young, and Rev. David Webster officiating. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2004, at Grandview Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 983-1000.

NATHALIA WRIGHT
Nathalia Wright, age 91, died on Monday, November 22, 2004, at Blount Transitional Care Center. She had been in declining health for several years. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
She was the daughter of Elizabeth and Hilliard Wright. Her father was a Maryville merchant and operated Wright's 5 & 10 at the intersection Broadway and Cusick in Maryville. After graduating from Maryville College in 1933, she worked at the college as an instructor and librarian. She earned her master's and doctoral degrees from Yale University in 1938 and 1949 respectively.
In 1949 she joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee as a professor in the English Department, where she taught for 33 years until her retirement in 1982. In 1972 she became the university's first woman Mace Bearer, and in 1975 she was named an Alumni Distinguished Service Professor. In 2000 she became the sixth recipient of the Commission for Women's Notable UTK Woman Award.
Dr. Wright was recognized as a leading scholar in early American literature and was considered one of the country's foremost scholars on the works of Herman Melville. Her doctoral thesis, Melville's Use of the Bible, was published in 1949 and republished in 1969. She wrote or edited more than a dozen books during her career.
A private interment will be held in Grandview Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Haws officiating.
