OBIT AND FUNERAL NOTICE: COY L. TAYLOR, SR. Coy L. Taylor, Sr., age 76, 636 S. Roan Street, Elizabethton died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, TN, following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late G. Jay and Goldie Taylor. He attended Moore’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Taylor was owner/operator of 7 Hour Laundry and Elizabethton Steam Laundry. He was a past member of Kiwanis Club, Elizabethton Elk’s Club, Pony League - Youth Baseball and Chairperson for United Way and The Boy’s Club. Mr. Taylor received his Associate Degree in Business at Steed College. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Lillie McQueen, Chelsea White, Ruth Estep, and Lena Gregory Taylor, six brothers, Brooks Taylor, Cephas Taylor, Sterling Taylor, Anderson Taylor, John Taylor, and Roy Taylor. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Stewart and Teresa Taylor, Snellville, GA, Hensel and Brenda Taylor, Greeneville, TN, Coy Taylor Jr., and Kathy Tipton Taylor, Hampton, Austin and Jana Taylor, Brimingham, AL, seven grandchildren, Derik and spouse, Amy Taylor, Swanee, GA, Brad Taylor, Snellville, GA, Brandi Taylor, Hampton, Josh Taylor, Kingsport, Alec Taylor, Sean Taylor and Austin Taylor, all of Birmingham, AL, one great grandson, Davis Taylor, Swanee, GA, two brothers, Freeman Taylor, Elizabethton, Jack Taylor, Elizabethton, two sisters, Loretta Norris, Elizabethton, Lois Jean McClure, Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28, at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Clarence Phillips officiating. Music will be under the direction of Brenda Taylor, Soloist. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN. JEANETTE F. MEDLIN Jeanette F. Medlin, 4107 Glaze Road, Johnson City, went home to be with her Lord, Monday, February 9, 2004, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. She was the daughter of the late W.L. and Callie Durham Fields. Mrs. Medlin had resided with her devoted husband for forty-seven years in the Happy Valley Community and later at her current address. She was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church and a graduate of Steed Business College. She was employed by McKee-Wilson Eye Clinc and the Johnson City Eye Clinic and was the office manager for Wilson Eye Clinic until her retirement. She was also a worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Medlin, a brother Denny Fields and a sister, Goldie Ollis. Survivors include a special niece, Bobbie Massengill and her husband, Bailey Massengill; a great nephew, Tommy Massengill; a nephew, Omar Ollis; her loving nieces and nephews of her husband also survive. Funeral service for Mrs. Medlin will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. - Thursday, February 12, 2004, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, with Dr. Joe Sorah officiating. John Carriger, Jr. age 79, of 101 Byrd Street, Johnson City, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Nursing Home. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late John Carriger, Sr. and Nola Nave Carriger. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith. He was a retired supervisor from Thomas Products after 22 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Dovie Ward Carriger, of the home, one son, John B. Carriger, Johnson City, one grandchild, Kourtney Carriger, Johnson City, one sister, Frances Jones, Elizabethton, special niece, Nancy Thomas, Johnson City, several other nieces and nephews and special friends, Sam and Helen Harrison, Elizabethton, also survive. Melvin A. Livingston, age 79, of 1173 Powder Branch Road, Elizabethton, TN, died Saturday, May 1, 2004 at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Nursing Home Care Unit, Mountain Home, TN, following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late John and Vistula McKeehan Livingston. Mr. Livingston was a retired employee of Jarl, and was a former Body and Fender man. He was a U.S Army veteran serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict, and received a Purple Heart during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Livingston was preceded in death by a sister Ruth McKnight, and six brothers, Ray, Murry, J.B., Ira, Delbert, and Glen Livingston. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Smith Livingston, of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gilda and Teddy Reed, Elizabethton, and Judy Scalf, Elizabethton; three sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Vivian and Tony Bowman, King, NC, Helen and Jim Harrington, Winston-Salem, NC, Annie Livingston, Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren and spouses, Melanie and Kenneth McAllister, Johnson City, Stephanie and Chris Grindstaff, Elizabethton, Jena and Franklin Ortega, Elizabethton, William and Chessie Shoun, Roan Mountain, Jeremy Reed, Weatherford, TX; three great grandchildren, Tre Shoun, Roan Mountain, Jordon Reed, Elizabethton, Liliana Ortega, Elizabethton. ROBERT “BOB” CABLE Robert “Bob” Cable, age 81, 223 Main Street, Butler, died Saturday, December 27, 2003 at his residence following a brief illness. A native of Johnson County, he was the son of the late Will and Matilda Fritts Cable. He was a member of Dyson Grove Baptist Church. He formerly worked at a sawmill, retired from Blue Ridge Shoe Company and after his retirement he worked on lawn mowers and weed eaters for friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by four half brothers and two half sisters. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Stout Cable, of the home, two daughters, Ora E. Cable, Lenoir, NC, Charlene Cable, Morganton, NC. The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28, at Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. Alan Koch officiating. Eva E. Heatherly, age 90, formerly of Blevins Hollow Road and also of Hwy 91, Elizabethton died Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse James and Mary Annie Estes Grindstaff. She was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years and was a member of the W.M.U. Mrs. Heatherly was a former employee of Bemberg and North American Rayon Corporation where she worked as a inspector. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Heatherly, February 7, 1999, two sisters, Zola Campbell, Effie Grindstaff and one brother, Floyd Grindstaff. Survivors include one brother, Vester F. Grindstaff, Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004 at Dungan Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Estep officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church Choir. Interment will follow the funeral service at Vester Cemetery, Blevins Hollow Road, Elizabethton. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Bays and Bertha Hill Smith. He was of the baptist faith and a general laborer. Survivors include a brother, Wayne Smith, of the home, two sisters, Flossie Smith, Roan Mountain, Ruby Chambers, Hampton, several nieces and nephews also survive. ADA PEARL GRINDSTAFF Ada Pearl Grindstaff, age 83, Life Care Center Elizabethton, formerly of 318 Hardin Hollow Road, Elizabethton died Wednesday, December 31 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Tilford and Bessie Pierce Oliver. She was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church and former employee of North American Rayon Corporation and Bemberg Corporation. She is preceded in death by a son, Rondal Oliver, 2001 and one brother, Ruben Brooks Oliver. Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Robert Grindstaff, of the home, one daughter and son-in-law, Vesta Ann and Jerry Peters, Elizabethton, two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Branch Lewis and Raymond R. Lewis, Elizabethton, Nanny and Frank “Bud” Rosenbaum, Elizabethton, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and special friend, Miles McCloud, also survive. OBITUARY NOTICE: JANE S. WHITE Jane S. White, age 88, 509 West E Street, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Marietta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Richard W. and Eunice Mary Mosher Starke, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm White, a brother, Richard W. Starke, Jr. and a half-brother, Shubael Mosher. Mrs. White attended East Tennessee State University 1934 - 1935. She then married Malcolm White in 1936. She was a substitute teacher for one to two years, after which she took time off for her children. She was listed in “The World Who’s Who of Women”. She then went to Nursing School and worked as a nurse for one year prior to becoming the Director of Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center, a position she held for sixteen years. Mrs. White was a member of First United Methodist Church. In her later years Mrs. White worked full time as a volunteer at First United Methodist Church, The Senior Citizens Center of Elizabethton and delivered Meals on Wheels. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John M. and Judy White, Johnson City; two daughters and one son-in-law: Marian Elaine and David Parlier, Elizabethton and Carolyn H. White Bergstrom, Everett, WA; three grandchildren Dustin John White, Johnson City, Matthew David Parlier and spouse, Jackie, Elizabethton and Darlene Denise Irving, Everett, WA; two great-grandchildren: Rachel Jane Irving and Michael David Irving, both of Everett, WA several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. - Thursday, April 15, 2004, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Buford Hankins, Rev. Bill Carter and Rev. Bob Hudson officiating.
