GOLDIE VADA CARDEN LEWIS Goldie Vada Carden Lewis, age 85, 815 Highway 91, Elizabethton died Thursday, March 4, 2004 at Pine Ridge Care Center, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Lovie and Emma Teague Carden. She was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church. Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Grant Lewis, Sr., February 27, 2003, and two sisters, Arlene Campbell and Ressie Lewis. Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Melvin Jr., and Betty Lewis, Elizabethton, Gary R. and Margie Lewis, Elizabethton, D.Ted Lewis, Elizabethton, Hubert Lewis, Elizabethton, one daughter and son-in-law, Annetta and Harold Hall, Elizabethton, twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, two brothers, Clifford Carden, Hampton, Clyde Carden, Redding, CA, six sisters, Lovie Belle Hefferman, Taylor, SC, Emily Payne, Kingsport, Lois Estep, Johnson City, June Scott, Nashville, TN, Evelyn Lewis, Elizabethton, Sessie Carden Keller, Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004 at Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. Teddy Lewis officiating. STEVE “TWINKLES THE CLOWN” MILLSAPS Steve “Twinkles the Clown” Millsaps, age 56, 242 Slagle Road, Elizabethton died Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at his residence following a brief illness. A native of Blount County, TN, he was the son of the late Reuben and Noel Mae McGaha Millsaps. He was a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ. He was owner of Star’s Big Top Amusements. Survivors include his wife, Kay Millsaps, of the home, a daughter and son-in-law, Leanna and David Poteat, Jonesborough, two grandchildren, Adam and Lindsay Poteat, both of Jonesborough, two brothers, Derrell Millsaps, Michael Millsaps, both of Maryville, TN, several nieces also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Mr. Eddy Craft, Minister officiating. Frank Josef Brotschul, Jr., was born April 10, 1930 died May 8, 2004. He currently resided in Roan Mountain, Tennessee since 1988 after retiring from a 35 year career as a machinist. He was married for forty-two years to a loving wife, Joan, met and married in 1962. They have two children, daughter Laura and son Robert and daughter-in-law, Cheryl, granddaughter, April, sisters, Maria, Cathy, brothers, Mike, Fred and Jack and their families. Frank knew three languages and was employed since the age of 12 with various jobs. During his career as a machinist, he rarely missed a day. He was raised in a loving family and was one of twelve siblings. Born and raised in Hungary and Germany, he survived the war and the depression and came to the United States with his family for a better life and succeeded to the utmost. His immediate family would like to thank all friends and relatives and health care workers for your love and support through these difficult times. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Filmore and Grace Cable Mann. She was a retired employee of Snap-On Tools. She was preceded in death by one brother, Reno Mann. Survivors include one son, William S. Blevins, Elizabethton, one granddaughter, Alicia Blevins, Elizabethton, two brothers, Robert Mann, Elizabethton, Pete Mann, Lenoir, NC, one sister, Dorothy Fenner, Lenoir, NC, her fiancé, Murrell Nidiffer, Hampton, several nieces and nephews also survive. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Abraham Lincoln and Molly Esther Cole Hodge. She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church and a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Zeb L. Swift, two sisters, Josie Parks and Viola Bryant, and two brothers, Claude Hodge and Eldridge Hodge and four infant brothers. WAYNE G. WHITEHEAD Wayne G. Whitehead, age 69, 316 University Parkway, Johnson City, died Monday February 9, 2004 at Veterans Administration Nursing Center, Mountain Home, TN, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Robert Milburn Whitehead and Mayme Miller Whitehead Julian. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Whitehead was a retired employee of Nuclear Fuel Services, Erwin. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Julian, and infant twins, Harold and Nancy Whitehead. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Tina Whitehead, Watauga, Allen and Paula Whitehead, Johnson City, Grady and Genia Whitehead, Elizabethton, eleven grandchildren, one great grandson, one sister, Margaret Shaw, Roan Mountain, several nieces and nephews , a special friend, Elizabeth Reeves, Johnson City, also survive. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Shannon James, Richmond, Sr., and Helen Phillips Richmond. He was a member of New Zion True Gospel Tabernacle, Johnson City. He was a former employee of Carter County Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Gillespie and one brother, Hearl “Sonny” Richmond. A native of Chicago, IL, he had lived in Washington County most of his life. He was the son of the late Bud William and Louise Sifford Riddle. He was a retired Master Dog trainer. A native of Carter County he was the son of the late Doran and Myrtle Birchfield Sammons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Bennett Sammons and a brother, Teddy Sammons. Mr. Sammons attended Milligan College and was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton. He was a retired employee of Chiquita Brands International. Survivors include a son, Teddy Sammons, Knoxville; four daughters: Jan Martin, PA, Connie Andes and Beverly Bunting, both of Johnson City and Rebecca Estep, Elizabethton; four grandchildren: Tessa Sammons, Elizabethton, Michael Bell, Makaila Bunting and Michelle Bunting, all of Johnson City; step-mother, Betty Sammons; one brother, Richard Sammons, Elizabethton; two nieces: Debbi Sammons, Johnson City and Denise Sammons, Elizabethton.
