IRA GOUGE Ira Gouge, age 64, 117 Dyer Street, Johnson City, died Monday, November 17, 2003, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Hazel Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Gouge. Mr. Gouge was a member of Keystone Free Will Baptist Church and the Men’s Fellowship. He was a retired meat cutter at Giant Food Store. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Drusilla and Bobby Estes, Johnson City and Lisa and Joe Arnett, Elizabethton; two sons and one daughter-in-law: Steve and Linda Gouge, Jonesborough and Timothy Gouge, Johnson City; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Joseph Jones, Elizabethton; a very special friend, Brenda Nave, Johnson City; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service for Ira Gouge will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. - Wednesday, November 19th, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, with Rev. Bill Greer officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Keystone Free Will Baptist Church. Graveside service and interment will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Geneva J. Blevins, age 80, formerly of 638 Old Hwy 143 Roan Mountain, died Wednesday April 28, 2004 at Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Cain and Delia McKinney Julian. She was a member of Roan Mountain Holiness Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Blevins, Sr. and two brothers, Nathan Julian and Norman Julian. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, John S. Blevins, Jr. and Sharon Blevins, Kingsport, one daughter and son-in-law, Evangeline and Gene Ashley, Roan Mountain, seven grandchildren, John S. Blevins, III, Knoxville, Amanda Blevins, Kingsport, Amelia Blevins, Lexington, KY, Kim Hughes, Michelle Perkins, Cindy Hamby, all of Roan Mountain, Sandra Pritchard, Frank, NC, eight great grandchildren. HAZEL VICTORIA “MAMAW” RASNICK Hazel Victoria “Mamaw” Rasnick, age 82, 227 Reynolds Road, Elizabethton went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Alice Nave Pierce. She was a member of Freedom Fellowship Baptist Church, Elizabethton. Mrs. Rasnick was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. “Mamaw” was preceded in death by her husband, William Clarence “Papaw” Rasnick, Sr., July 10, 2003, and four brothers. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Bessie L. Minton Scoggins. She was of the baptist faith, a homemaker and a mother. Mrs. Austin was a avid Braves Fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Austin, two infant sons, Christopher Austin and Charles Austin, one brother Clarence P. Scoggins, an infant sister, a son-in-law, Charles E. Eggers. A native of Avery County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Coy C. and Nora Guy Greene. She attended Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 42 years of service. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Owens, and Modest Creasey, and two brothers, William T. Greene and Edgar G. Greene. Survivors include four sisters, Violet Lyons, Elizabethton, Mrs. Raymond (Ella) Whitehead, Elizabethton, Blanche Hill, Hampton, Velma Lee Clemons, Elizabethton, two sisters-in-law, Peggy Greene, Ft. He was a member of Valley Forge Christian Church and was a retired diesel mechanic, he was also a avid race car enthusiast. She was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late Robert P. and Goldie Phipps Estep. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a retired employee of the hosiery and furniture industry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe R. Stout. ROBERT TAYLOR “BOB” BRIGGS Robert Taylor “Bob” Briggs, age 84, 3280 Black Creek County Rd., Freeport, FL formerly of Roan Mountain, died Saturday, February 21, 2004, in the Sacared Heart on the Emerald Coast Hospital, Destin, FL, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late David W. and Flossie Franklin Briggs. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tammy Lynn Deno, a brother, Harold Briggs and a special aunt, Pauline Blackwell. Mr. Briggs was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired diesel mechanic and truck driver. After a long illness, she has gone to be with her Lord in heaven. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Ike and Lillian Barnette Love. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of Borderview Christian Church. Survivors include her husband of fifty-two years, Robert G. Elliott, of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law: Michael L. Elliott, and Dennis and Marie Elliott, all of Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law: Robin and Tim Sutherland, Haysi, VA; sister and brother-in-law: Nancy and Kenneth Calloway, Elizabethton; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
