FRANKIE V. ODOM Frankie V. Odom, age 86, formerly of 135 Spring Street, Hampton died Thursday, January 29, 2004 at Pine Ridge Care Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Rod and Mollie Matherly Jenkins. She was a member of Hampton Christian Church and a homemaker. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Hampton Chapter #470. She was preceded in death by her husband, Selmer J. Odom, Sr. May 14, 1996, one great grandson, Austin James Frazier, two brothers, Tom Jenkins, R.J. Jenkins and one sister, Ethel Hyder. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Kay Odom, Hampton, one grandaughter and spouse, Jama and Jim Frazier, Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 30, at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, Minister and Chaplain Frederick Meredith officiating. Following the funeral service a memorial service will be accorded by Order of the Eastern Star Hampton Chapter #470. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Carmen Ray Hyder, Tony Jack Hyder, Norman “Buddy” Hyder, Irby Jones, Clyde Fuller, Craig Higgins and Jack Eaton. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home chapel at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 30 at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace or at the residence 135 Spring Street, Hampton anytime. ELMER LESTER BOWERS Elmer Lester Bowers, age 63, 139 South St., Elizabethton, died Thursday, December 25, 2003 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Charles Allen and Bernie Smith Bowers. He was a member of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Bowers was a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Bowers, Ernest Bowers, one sister, Dorothy Bowers Parlier, two infant brothers, two infant sisters. Survivors include his wife of the home, Dorothy Depew Bowers, two daughters and sons-in-law, Trena and Mike Green, Canda and David Ellis, all of Elizabethton, son, Richard Bowers and fiancee, Teresa Canter, Elizabethton, two grandsons, Jordan Ellis, Daniel Ellis, both of Elizabethton, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Gay and Lawrence Pierce, Elizabethton, Faye Parlier, North Carolina, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Clearsie Bowers, Clint and Charlotte Bowers, all of Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews, special friend, Jim Blevins, also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27, at Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. James Hawk and Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Music will be under the direction of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church Quartet. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, at Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Zaney Pierce, Keith Pierce, Mitchell Bowers, Scott Bowers, Glen Bowers, and Bobby Bowers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jay Metha, Dr. Jonathan Bremer, Dr. Charlie Ward, Dr. Phillip Hinton, Dr. Steven Smith. Rev. Guy E. Holt, age 81 of 706 Holston Avenue, Elizabethton, went to be with his Lord and Savior, and his wife and grandson on Saturday, May 15, 2004 at Pine Ridge Care Center of Elizabethton, following an extended illness. He is now with his wife of 61 years, who died six weeks ago, March 27, 2004, Elizabeth Davis Holt, and his grandson, Michael Marshall. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Bernie Holt and Ruth Pierce Holt Fenner. Rev. Holt retired from E.T.S.U from the paint department after 22 years, and was also a retired minister. He was a member of Prayer Tabernacle, Elizabethton, and a U.S Army Veteran of WWII. preceded in death in addition to his wife and grandson are a sister, Margaret Nidiffer, and brother, Jack Holt. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and David Hill, Elizabethton; Karen and Clarence Marshall, Jr., Hampton; one son, Ernie Holt; 4 grandchildren, Lana and spouse Robert Montgomery, Elizabethton, Ernie “Joel” and Spouse Teresa Holt, Johnson City, Steven “Eric” and spouse, Christy Holt, Jonesborough, and Joshua Taylor, Hampton. 4 Great Grandchildren, Mindy Montgomery and Brandon Montgomery, both of Elizabethton, Amber Holt and Megan Holt, both of Johnson City; special friend Virginia “Dino” Montgomery, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at Prayer Tabernacle, 811 S. Cedar Avenue, Elizabethton, with Rev. A.G Wagner, Rev. Johnny Hilton, and Rev. Phil Poston officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Gospel Trio. The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Military Honors presented by Tennessee National Guard Troop F Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Ronald Ritchie, James Arnold, Wayne Hilton, Bill Fraley, Steve Holt, and Ralph Hyder. Honorary pallbearers will be Friends and Neighbors and members of Prayer Tabernacle. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Carter County Rescue Squad and the Adventa Hospice, Stephanie Arnett, Ginger Branch, and Renee Buckles. MISS DORIS EDENS Miss Doris Edens, age 77, 181 Campbell Road, Jonesborough, formerly of 2144 West “G” Street, Elizabethton died Friday, January 23, 2004 at Lakebridge Health Care Center, Johnson City following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rhoda Sims Edens. She was a member of Hopwood Christian Church. Miss Edens was a sales clerk at the Charles Store, Johnson City. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Edens, one sister, Frances Hyder. Survivors include a special niece and spouse, Sharon and Kenneth Campbell, Jonesborough, one great nephew and spouse, Jeff and Ceilya Campbell, Gray, several special cousins also survive. The graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2004 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Kenn Hecht officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Henry Elliott, age 91, 139 Old Hwy. 19-E, Roan Mountain died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at his residence following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Will and Emma Lou Potter Elliott. Mr. Elliott was a retired farmer and a member of Shell Creek Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sons, Wayne Elliott, Claude Elliott, Jim Elliott, and Paul Elliott and one daughter, Frankie Lee Elliott. Survivors are one daughter, Edith Greene, Roan Mountain, one son, Ernest Elliott, Roan Mountain, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, three sisters, Gladys Potter and Goldie McKinney, both of Roan Mountain and Maggie Bowers of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Henry Elliott will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004 in the Tetrick Funeral Home Rhododendron Chapel with Rev. Jim Storie officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel prior to the service or at other times at the residence of the son, Ernest Elliot, 414 Bluegrass Rd., Roan Mountain. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2004 at the Blackwell Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, great-grandsons, and family friends. Martha Jean Guy Honeycutt age 71, 108 D Elliott Road, Hampton, died Sunday, December 21, 2003 at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Lillie Trivette Guy. Mrs. Honeycutt was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Honeycutt and a brother, Chester Guy. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Mike Smith, Hampton; a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and June Honeycutt, Hampton; four grandchildren: Caleb Smith, James Honeycutt, Joshua Honeycutt, and Jennifer Barr, all of Hampton; and one sister, Blanche Perkins, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 23rd in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Haynes officiating. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. She was native of Washington County and is the daughter of Michael Townsend, Johnson City and Drusilla Gouge Estes, Johnson City. She was an employee of Sleep Inn. Alicia had a special love for animals. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ira and Peggy Good Gouge. Survivors in addition to her parents include her step-father, Bobby Estes, Johnson City, step-mother, Sandra Townsend, Johnson City, two brothers, Christopher Townsend, Johnson City, Chad Townsend, Bluff City, one niece, Autumn Townsend, Bluff City, one aunt, Lisa Arnett, Elizabethton, two uncles, Steve Gouge, Jonesborough, Tim Gouge, Johnson City. Clyde O. Turbyfill, age 78, of 168 Old Hwy. 19-E, Roan Mountain, TN, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at the Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain. Mr. Turbyfill was a native of Avery Co., North Carolina. He was a son of the late Frank and Dorothy Ward Turbyfill. He was a member of Elk Park Christian Church and was retired from the U. S. Gypsum Manufacturing Company. In addition to his parents, Mr. Turbyfill was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Moody, Bernetta Ollis and Margaret Shadlock and one brother, J. V. Turbyfill. Survivors are his wife, Lessie Turbyfill of the home, one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Phil Hennings of Elizabethton, two brothers, Wallace Earnest and Jimmy Dale Turbyfill, four sisters, Mildred Davis, Betty Ollis, Velma Stockman, and Gayle McMurray. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The graveside service with for Clyde O. Turbyfill will be conducted Friday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the Perry cemetery with Mr. Buddy Zuercher, Minister, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Tennessee National Guard. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. for the service. McKinney, age 26, 213 Taylors Rd., Greer, SC, died Sunday, January 11, 2004, at the residence of his mother, Valerie Cable Masters, 172 Minga Dr., Johnson City, following a brief illness. A native of Washington County, TN, he was the son of Valerie Cable Masters, Johnson City and Henry Boyd McKinney, Hampton. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Leonard Masters, an uncle, Fred Cable and a cousin, Timothy Cable, II. Mr. McKinney was self employed as a painter and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors in addition to his parents are a brother, Kris McKinney, Greer, SC; Maternal grandparents, Hollis and Joyce Cable, Hampton; an uncle, Tim Cable, Jonesborough; step-sister, Christy Masters, Atlanta, GA; several cousins, uncles and aunts on the paternal side also survive. Funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 14, 2004, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, with Rev. Burl Garland and Rev. Dan Hyder officiating. Vivian Berniece Humphrey Shepard, age 63, 1369 Elizabethton Hwy., Bluff City, TN died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 in Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Sullivan County, she was the daughter of the late Thurman Edward, Sr. and Berniece McClurd Humphrey. She was a member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ and attended Blountville Church of Christ. She was a former employee of Pharmaseal. She was a member of the Take Time Cancer Support Group of Kingsport. Mrs. Shepard was preceded in death by one brother, Thurman E. Humphrey, Jr. and four uncles, G. S. Humphrey, Paul Humphrey, Earnest McClurd and Earl McClurd. Survivors are her husband, Carroll Lyons Shepard of the home, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tim Shepard of Johnson City, and Anthony C. and Sherry Shepard of Elizabethton, one special grandson, Matthew Daniel Shepard of Elizabethton, eight aunts, Marge Morgan, Vada Blevins and Leatha Dial, all of Elizabethton, Cleo Hess, Bess Scott and Grace Morrison, all of Watauga, Christine Carter of Bristol, TN and Minnie Stone of Philadelphia, PA, two uncles, Leo Humphrey of Elizabethton and Ralph McClurd of Penns Grove, NJ, three cousins, William Caraway, Roan Mountain, Richard Caraway and Wayne Caraway, Jr., both of California.
